2 Seat Belt problem of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/04/2026

I am writing to formally document a serious and extremely concerning safety incident that occurred on Wednesday, March 4, 2026 at approximately 12:06 pm while driving my 2024 Jeep wagoneer, which currently has approximately 58,000 miles. While driving, multiple critical warning lights and system failure messages appeared simultaneously. I have attached photos documenting the warnings that occurred during the incident. Service power steering • abs warning • red steering wheel with exclamation mark • check engine light • collision / auto emergency braking warning • traction control / electronic stability control warning • forward collision warning / automatic emergency braking disabled during this event, the vehicle behavior became unpredictable and unsafe. Considering the failure of multiple safety systems at once, this created a situation that could have easily resulted in a serious accident. I am extremely shaken by the experience and thankful that my four children were not in the vehicle with me at the time. Unfortunately, this incident is part of a long list of issues I have experienced with this vehicle since purchasing it. These include: persistent check engine light issues • replacement of all third-row seatbelts due to defects • oil valve replacement (code p06d – oil pump control stuck high) • multiple software updates • the vehicle shifting itself into park when coming to a stop, with the gear dial locking and requiring the vehicle to be fully shut off and restarted before it can be driven again • driver window intermittently sticking • replacement of the passenger seat massage system due to an air bladder malfunction • vehicle jolting/jumping when coming to a stop given the number of ongoing mechanical and electronic problems, I no longer feel confident that this vehicle is safe to drive. I purchased this vehicle specifically for the safety and reliability.

3 Seat Belt problem of the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/28/2026

I am submitting this complaint because my vehicle’s driver seat has a dangerous and unpredictable defect that creates an immediate safety hazard. While the vehicle is in motion, the driver’s seat will suddenly and randomly move forward without warning, pushing the driver into the steering wheel and crushing the leg and footwell area. This is not a minor adjustment issue—it is a sudden mechanical movement that physically forces the driver into an unsafe position while actively operating the vehicle. This has occurred at highway speeds and in heavy traffic, which makes the situation extremely alarming. When the seat unexpectedly moves forward, the driver is forced closer to the steering wheel, restricting movement and making it difficult to properly steer, brake, or maintain control of the vehicle. In those moments, the driver’s ability to safely operate the vehicle is compromised. The only way we have been able to stop the seat from continuing to move forward is to perform an emergency maneuver, pull the vehicle over, completely shut the vehicle off, and restart it in order to reset the system. Until the vehicle is fully turned off and restarted, the seat will not return to its normal position. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership twice after the check engine light came on. Each time, we were told the light was being triggered by the “comfort seat module. ” however, despite the system indicating an issue with the comfort seat module, the dealership stated they could not find any problems with the seat or the module itself. This situation is extremely frightening and dangerous. A driver being physically forced forward into the steering wheel while traveling at highway speeds creates a serious risk of losing control of the vehicle. This defect puts not only the occupants of the vehicle at risk, but also other motorists and pedestrians sharing the roadway. This issue needs to be investigated before someone is seriously injured or worse. No driver should have.

5 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/10/2026

Driver's seat belt retractor doesn't retract all of the time. Hangs up & leaves slack. Bought car & wasn't as bad. Didn't talk to dealer until now. Drove car 800 miles & 4 months since purchase. Dealer service dept says no extended warranty etc. I'm past the original warranty period & the 3 month certified used car warranty. Car was sold on oct 14, 2025. The equipment checklist form marked that all safety systems were working. I feel a slack belt, getting worse is a safety issue the manufacturer should fix in a 5 year old car. Date is now when it's gotten really slow. It was somewhat that way at purchase. Needed to be shook to retract. Al.

7 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/16/2026

The drivers side seatbelt will not catch or retract. I went to an independent shop who contacted Jeep to order the part. They were told the part is on “extreme backorder” and it could be months before I could get my car repaired. My Jeep is not driveable. Based on the lack of availability of the part I feel this should be classified as a safety recall.

8 Seat Belt problem of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

The right side back seat belt became jammed and tighten around child's body. With no release button or no way to untangle the seatbelt, the belt had to be cut to prevent further tightening around child's body and to prevent suffocation.

9 Seat Belt problem of the 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/05/2026

My son was hit head on in a very serious accident and his airbag on driver side didn’t fully deploy resulting in injuries. I’m not sure what component was faulty but the airbag should have fully deployed.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/18/2025

My airbags did not deploy and I believe my seatbelt also did not work properly. I was struck head on (front end to front end) inside a tunnel by a pickup truck (ram 3500) going appx. 40mph and my air bags did not deploy and my head hit my windshield so I’m unsure if seatbelts worked properly as I was using mine. My insurance company is storing it now for me as it is most likely totaled. My insurance is handling my property damage case, as far as I know it has not been to any dealer/mechanic and again is most likely beyond repair unfortunately. Colorado state patrol inspected both vehicles involved, I know my insurance is holding the vehicle now, I’m not sure about the other driver as I am struggling to find help with litigation. I had no warning from my car nor otherr driver, not sure if this is because I was entering the single lane tunnel. He did not use horn flash light anything like that, I laid on my horn and cut my wheel right but being in a tunnel with a wall of rock/mountain, there’s was no avoiding him.

11 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/12/2025

My driver seatbelt is no longer retracting back to original position. Passenger seat won't retract out and is now hanging loose. Very unsafe.

12 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/12/2025

I simply want to report the long delays (months) in having faulty front seat belt assembly replaced. I had to personally research this as local dealers were 'not aware'. 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee owners reporting malfunctioning or delayed front seatbelts as critical safety defect that directly impacts occupant protection, and reporting it will track issues and potentially compel manufacturer into faster action, even though this specific issue is now under a warranty extension rather than a recall. The fact that it's a warranty replacement under an extended warranty/bulletin should not result in long delays given the potentially life-threatening problem contributing to overall vehicle safety.   are we waiting for a fatality to have the replacement parts become more readily available, given the warranty bulletin (d-21-04) was issued way back in 2021? I should hope not. Or is this a case of, it is what it is (with regards to the delay). Currently, customer service is now telling me the required part will be available March 6, 2026 . . . Three months after my identifying the cracked seat belt assembly problem. I just want to know if this is (acceptable) reasonable for a life safety issue?.

13 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/04/2025

The seatbelt I has stopped retracting on the passenger side of the vehicle and is now occurring on the driver side of the vehicle as well. This is a safety concern.

14 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/03/2025

8/2023 one rear seat belt would no longer retract. The problem was reproduced by the service center and they replaced the rear seat belt. 10/2025 the same rear seat belt would no longer retract and 11/2025 the other rear seat belt would no longer retract. Brought into Jeep dealer and they verified there are no obstructions affecting the seat belt and they are no operating as intended. They replaced both rear seat belts in 12/2025.

15 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2025

The seat belt does not retract. There is a crack where the seat belts enter the post and compresses the seat belt. I took it to the dealer and they would love to fix it but there are no parts available so they can not do anything. In summary we use the seatbelt only as a decoration piece so we do not get ticket it by non-using a seat belt. I asked the dealer if I could try to fix it my myself but he believes I will void the warranty. Not having a seatbelt is a major safety issue, that's why I write to you. Suggestion: (1) or mopar gets the parts available to the dealer or (2) we do not penalized the user for trying to fix it. This is my wife car [xxx] ) she is [xxx] /o. The car is excellent conditions with 48 k miles. Thank you much for you help in considering this issue. Btw Jeep forum is full of users with the same problem. 16 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/20/2025

Driver's side seat belt will not buckle unless button is pushed on the buckle.

17 Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/15/2025

I scheduled a recall appointment for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. The dealer confirmed that the appointment was scheduled and that the necessary recall part had been ordered. However, when I arrived, my vehicle was parked and no work was started. I was not given an estimated repair time, and after waiting for 3 hours, no progress had been made. This recall is mandatory, and the dealer failed to complete it. I am reporting this as a safety issue and request that the matter be investigated.

18 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/11/2025

After a rear end hit by another car the red alert/caution light for the airbag system on the front electric dashboard was lit up. The system did not engage after being hit and after taking the car into for repair replacement parts are not available over 5 months later for the same year and model by any original source in the us as of today. Accident occurred in August 2025. Repair shop did identify the 2 failing parts, both related to parts associated with the driver side seatbelt and where it connects to the seatbelt buckle at the side of the seat. Insurance company of the person who hit us forced us to pickup the car from the repair shop despite airbag system not fixed and as of to date 01/17/2026 has not been able to repair or correct the faulty system. They have also as of to date shown willingness to total the car but instead forcing us either to drive a car with a faulty safety device or park it in our drive way and get a new car for personal use. They have also repair shop designated by the insured company inspected the safety system, identified the problem, notified the insurance company and also informed the insurance company the 2 replaced parts or not available in the us. No warning lights prior to accident regarding this airbag safety system and warranty light is currently present 01/17/2026 obviously this is a vital part(s) of the airbag safety system and if not corrected or fixed puts any driver at a elevated risk in case of an accident.

19 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/23/2025

Something is wrong with both front driver and passenger seat belt buckle. When attempting to fasten the seat belt, something in the buckle prevents from clicking in the belt unless you press the button down. The seat belt sign stays on, raising safety concerns while operating the vehicle.

20 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/15/2025

Seat belt does not retract. Nearly unusable.

21 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/05/2025

I have owned 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees before this 2020 model and never had issues with seatbelts. After just five years, the driver's side seatbelt is not retracting and the passenger side is starting to do the same. I asked Jeep for assistance and I was told this was something I will have to pay for out of pocket. I have seen that many others have complained of the same issue online. I went to a dealer and the seatbelt part is on backorder for almost two weeks. Just one seatbelt will cost me almost $600 out of pocket. Jeep is surely playing with fire with this issue. I can't imagine what they will have to deal with if someone is injured due to the seatbelts not working properly, after just 5 years of buying a new car. Shame on them. I wanted to report this because this is a huge issue for me as someone who drives almost an hour to and from the office twice a week at least. Thank you for any assistance or guidance you can give. 22 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/15/2025

My vehicle started flashing my seatbelt light when I was driving and I was buckled and then my airbag light came on and my automatic start and stop light came on and have stayed on. I took it into Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram and they charged me $203 to tell me that I don’t have any shorts in the seatbelt wire harness and they found a o. L (over limit) indicating that I have a internal open within the seat, buckle itself, causing the codes and the lights on the dash and that it’ll cost $541. 26 to fix and it is not covered under any warranty, even though I just purchased the vehicle eight months ago and I’m under the 100,000 miles and just approaching the first 5 years. I should be covered. Now my airbags will not work and neither will my auto on and off features. This is a safety concern that should have a recall on it or be covered by mopar.

23 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/14/2025

Buckle no longer works to buckle seat belt.

24 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/07/2025

Seat belt locks and is not functional.

25 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

I am reporting an unresolved safety recall issue on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (VIN: 1c4rjfbg9ec323809). On February 1, 2025, I brought my vehicle to chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep (3470 boulder highway) after being informed that the driver’s seatbelt retractor was part of a safety recall and needed replacement. I was initially told the replacement part would arrive within 10 days. However, more than five months later, the seatbelt remains unrepaired. My wife and I have called the dealership multiple times—she called five times and I called once. Each time we were promised a follow-up call when the part arrived, but none was ever made. On June 9, the dealership told us a new part order had been placed 2–3 weeks earlier from a new supplier, and that the sales associate armando (“mondo”) would follow up. No update was provided to me directly. On July 9, we were told the part was ordered again and messages were left with mondo to contact us, but as of today, no one has reached out. Throughout this process, I have felt dismissed and the safety of the non-functional seatbelt— which hangs limp and offers no protection—has not been prioritized. I never received an official recall notice from Jeep, and I am left with a vehicle unsafe to drive with no clear timeline for repair. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in addressing this ongoing safety concern, as the dealership has failed to resolve the recall in a timely manner and the delay poses a significant risk.

26 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

Passenger seatbelt does not retract at all. Only 60k miles.

27 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/10/2025

Without incident or warning, front passenger seatbelt will not retract, pull out or lock when jerked. Inspected 1/13/25 by capital cdjr, garner,nc 919-582-0202, found to require replacement per mopar warranty bulletin#d-21-04 dated 3-24-2021. Service advisor and parts stated that seatbelt is on national backorder, can't be ordered and no eta can be provided, although my name was added to "the list. " please note that this warranty bulletin was published four years ago, yet parts remain unavailable. Online research indicates this safety failure was investigated by NHTSA and caused mopar to extend seatbelt warranty coverage. Without replacement parts sourcing, without ability to order, without an eta, the situation still exists without resolution. When will this become a priority? thank you.

28 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/02/2025

January 2, 2025 - the front passenger seat belt failed to retract. Since we always use the seatbelts when in our vehicle, we have not had anyone sit in that seat since. There were no warning lights, messages or hint of a problem prior to this failure. January 30, 2025 took the vehicle to the local Jeep dealer to have the problem looked at. Per the service order, seat belt was inspected using x90 instructions and it failed. Replacement part ( 1vl06dx9ag) was ordered and I was told it would be 2-4 weeks before the part would be available. February thru early may I would visit the local Jeep dealer, as well as other Jeep dealers I may drive by, to see if the part was available and I was told it was backordered and the waiting list for it was growing. May 28, 2025 - Jeep dealer service rep called me to say that it was still back ordered with no idea on when part would be coming in. Until repaired I remain unable to use the front passenger seat.

34 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/08/2024

All 5 seatbelt retractors have gone out at the same time estimated $2000, the dealership put in a claim to crysler customer care that stated they would cover 40% and I would have the remaining 60% since the vehicle has 53,000 miles and is out of warranty. Although, even if it were still in warranty that part is not covered. This is a safety issue and the manufacture should be responsible.

35 Seat Belt problem of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/23/2024

I have had 2 incidents in which the 2nd row seat belts on either of the end seats fails to release. The first incident resulted in a seat belt being wrapped around the headrest and unable to release. I had to take the car to a mechanic for it be undone resulting in a broken headrest. This was in may 2024. Today the seatbelt was stuck around my child's abdomen. The seatbelt got tighter around his stomach and he tried get out of it. I parked the car and tried to get the seatbelt to release and it refused to. It continued to get tighter and tighter making it difficult to breathe. I had to call 911 for assistance on the side of the road. 2 police officers had to help me lift him and get him free- the entire time the seatbelt refused to release. My son has bruises and scratches from trying to get out and now is terrified to wear a seatbelt. There is something wrong with the mechanism for the seatbelt that does not allow it release. I am now scared that if we are in an accident and the seatbelt tightens across someone's chest or one of my children's neck that I won't be able to get them out in time. This has been reported to Jeep who advised that I fill out this form.
