2 Seat Belt problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/15/2025

I scheduled a recall appointment for my Jeep Grand Cherokee. The dealer confirmed that the appointment was scheduled and that the necessary recall part had been ordered. However, when I arrived, my vehicle was parked and no work was started. I was not given an estimated repair time, and after waiting for 3 hours, no progress had been made. This recall is mandatory, and the dealer failed to complete it. I am reporting this as a safety issue and request that the matter be investigated.

5 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/05/2025

I have owned 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees before this 2020 model and never had issues with seatbelts. After just five years, the driver's side seatbelt is not retracting and the passenger side is starting to do the same. I asked Jeep for assistance and I was told this was something I will have to pay for out of pocket. I have seen that many others have complained of the same issue online. I went to a dealer and the seatbelt part is on backorder for almost two weeks. Just one seatbelt will cost me almost $600 out of pocket. Jeep is surely playing with fire with this issue. I can't imagine what they will have to deal with if someone is injured due to the seatbelts not working properly, after just 5 years of buying a new car. Shame on them. I wanted to report this because this is a huge issue for me as someone who drives almost an hour to and from the office twice a week at least. Thank you for any assistance or guidance you can give. 6 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/15/2025

My vehicle started flashing my seatbelt light when I was driving and I was buckled and then my airbag light came on and my automatic start and stop light came on and have stayed on. I took it into Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram and they charged me $203 to tell me that I don’t have any shorts in the seatbelt wire harness and they found a o. L (over limit) indicating that I have a internal open within the seat, buckle itself, causing the codes and the lights on the dash and that it’ll cost $541. 26 to fix and it is not covered under any warranty, even though I just purchased the vehicle eight months ago and I’m under the 100,000 miles and just approaching the first 5 years. I should be covered. Now my airbags will not work and neither will my auto on and off features. This is a safety concern that should have a recall on it or be covered by mopar.

9 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

I am reporting an unresolved safety recall issue on my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee (VIN: 1c4rjfbg9ec323809). On February 1, 2025, I brought my vehicle to chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep (3470 boulder highway) after being informed that the driver’s seatbelt retractor was part of a safety recall and needed replacement. I was initially told the replacement part would arrive within 10 days. However, more than five months later, the seatbelt remains unrepaired. My wife and I have called the dealership multiple times—she called five times and I called once. Each time we were promised a follow-up call when the part arrived, but none was ever made. On June 9, the dealership told us a new part order had been placed 2–3 weeks earlier from a new supplier, and that the sales associate armando (“mondo”) would follow up. No update was provided to me directly. On July 9, we were told the part was ordered again and messages were left with mondo to contact us, but as of today, no one has reached out. Throughout this process, I have felt dismissed and the safety of the non-functional seatbelt— which hangs limp and offers no protection—has not been prioritized. I never received an official recall notice from Jeep, and I am left with a vehicle unsafe to drive with no clear timeline for repair. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in addressing this ongoing safety concern, as the dealership has failed to resolve the recall in a timely manner and the delay poses a significant risk.

10 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/01/2025

Passenger seatbelt does not retract at all. Only 60k miles.

11 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/10/2025

Without incident or warning, front passenger seatbelt will not retract, pull out or lock when jerked. Inspected 1/13/25 by capital cdjr, garner,nc 919-582-0202, found to require replacement per mopar warranty bulletin#d-21-04 dated 3-24-2021. Service advisor and parts stated that seatbelt is on national backorder, can't be ordered and no eta can be provided, although my name was added to "the list. " please note that this warranty bulletin was published four years ago, yet parts remain unavailable. Online research indicates this safety failure was investigated by NHTSA and caused mopar to extend seatbelt warranty coverage. Without replacement parts sourcing, without ability to order, without an eta, the situation still exists without resolution. When will this become a priority? thank you.

12 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/02/2025

January 2, 2025 - the front passenger seat belt failed to retract. Since we always use the seatbelts when in our vehicle, we have not had anyone sit in that seat since. There were no warning lights, messages or hint of a problem prior to this failure. January 30, 2025 took the vehicle to the local Jeep dealer to have the problem looked at. Per the service order, seat belt was inspected using x90 instructions and it failed. Replacement part ( 1vl06dx9ag) was ordered and I was told it would be 2-4 weeks before the part would be available. February thru early may I would visit the local Jeep dealer, as well as other Jeep dealers I may drive by, to see if the part was available and I was told it was backordered and the waiting list for it was growing. May 28, 2025 - Jeep dealer service rep called me to say that it was still back ordered with no idea on when part would be coming in. Until repaired I remain unable to use the front passenger seat.

18 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/08/2024

All 5 seatbelt retractors have gone out at the same time estimated $2000, the dealership put in a claim to crysler customer care that stated they would cover 40% and I would have the remaining 60% since the vehicle has 53,000 miles and is out of warranty. Although, even if it were still in warranty that part is not covered. This is a safety issue and the manufacture should be responsible.

19 Seat Belt problem of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/23/2024

I have had 2 incidents in which the 2nd row seat belts on either of the end seats fails to release. The first incident resulted in a seat belt being wrapped around the headrest and unable to release. I had to take the car to a mechanic for it be undone resulting in a broken headrest. This was in may 2024. Today the seatbelt was stuck around my child's abdomen. The seatbelt got tighter around his stomach and he tried get out of it. I parked the car and tried to get the seatbelt to release and it refused to. It continued to get tighter and tighter making it difficult to breathe. I had to call 911 for assistance on the side of the road. 2 police officers had to help me lift him and get him free- the entire time the seatbelt refused to release. My son has bruises and scratches from trying to get out and now is terrified to wear a seatbelt. There is something wrong with the mechanism for the seatbelt that does not allow it release. I am now scared that if we are in an accident and the seatbelt tightens across someone's chest or one of my children's neck that I won't be able to get them out in time. This has been reported to Jeep who advised that I fill out this form.

20 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2024

The seat belt on the driver’s side of my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee laredo has a cracked plastic guide, which has caused the seat belt to stop retracting properly. This malfunction compromises the functionality of the seat belt, making it unsafe for use and posing a serious risk in the event of an accident. I am currently pregnant and rely on this vehicle for daily transportation, so this issue puts both my safety and the safety of my unborn child at risk. I have contacted the dealership and confirmed there are no active recalls for my vehicle. However, this appears to be a manufacturing defect, as other vehicles of the same year and model have reportedly experienced similar issues. The problem has persisted, and the vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This problem I noticed recently, and don't recall the exact date.

21 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2024

The seat belt does not retract as it should. I have already had it replaced once and I have a second that is failing now. We have not been in an accident to see if it is a problem with restraining you as a driver, but it is a point of concern. The dealer replaced the first one, right after we purchased the vehicle, and it is exhibiting similar symptoms now of not retracting after unbuckled. You can manually align it to get it to feed back, but this doesn't seem to be the correct way to handle this.

22 Seat Belt problem of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/16/2024

My driver and passenger side front seatbelts won't retract properly. Dealer just diagnosed the problem as a weak retractor. This will be the third time the driver side has to be replaced since I bought the vehicle in may of 2020. It will be the second time the passenger side has to be replaced. Jeep replaced both under warranty in sept of 2021. Driver side was replaced in may of 2023 per Jeep goodwill. This time, I will have to pay for the passenger side but mopar warranty should cover driver side as it is barely a year old seatbelt. No one I've consulted has ever had to replace their seatbelts even one time, much less three times in four years. This is a definite safety concern if the belts won't tighten up properly during normal driving or a collision situation. Jeep has recalled seat belts on Grand Cherokees up to 2015 but there have been no recent recalls I'm aware of.

23 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/05/2024

Seat belt is not retracting. Feels unsafe.

24 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/29/2024

Seatbelt does not retract.

25 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/15/2024

Per the Jeep dealership that currently has my car, they said the drivers side seatbelt failed, the buckle will not lock. The male part will not go into the female part. There is no foreign object in the female part of the seat belt. My safety is put at risk every moment I'm in the car without a seatbelt on along with it being against the law to not have your seatbelt on. There is no warning lights that came on as the computer thinks the seatbelt is actually clicked in because its broken. A seatbelt should never fail especially on a 3 year old vehicle, however my extended warranty won't cover the "safety restraint system" and Jeep doesn't feel that they should have to replace it either.

26 Seat Belt problem of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/04/2024

We took the car home on 5/4/24 & while drive it home we started to get a binging noise, I got scared I thought the car was braking down & a message came on the instrument panel driver 1 info & then it went away & then a few minutes later more binging this message was check 2nd row seat belt latch, stop driving also the screen, radio, and air conditioner, shut off then it come back on after a while. We had a lot going on & we had to wait for a passenger side mirror to come in because of prior damage being done to it & scratch marks that need to be buffed & everything could be done at one time. Still driving the car and picked up my parents at the airport 5/15/24 and same electrical issue coming across the instrument panel. On 5/22/24 took my parents to the airport and they were in the 2nd row seats & the 2nd row latch message came up three different time while I was driving @ 70 mph and couldn't do anything didn't have a screen, radio, air conditioner or anything. On 6/4/24 the engine light came on while driving & stayed on. Took it in on 6/5/24 & they couldn't duplicate any of the problems and they must of just reset the engine light because we pick up the car on 6/6/24 & when I driving home both the 2nd row seat belt issue come on, & driver 1 info I was doing 41mph when it shows up on the instrument panel & the check engine light came on the next day 6/7/24 we took it to another dealership & they were able to duplicate all the problems. From all the service records that I can see there has been electrical system problems sense10/2/23, 2/19/24, 2/26/24 also wiring repaired done & all these issues where reported by two different dealership before being purchased by us and the problems still keep happening 5/4/24,5/6/24,5/7/24,5/8/24,5/9/24,5/10/24,5/15/24,5/18/24,5/22/24, 6/4/24,6/5/24,6/6/24, & the seat belt problem sense 2/15/24 & continue until this day. This another dealership has duplicate all of the problems, but they have no solution for these issues.

27 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/02/2024

Brakes failed when attempting to slow down, abs kicked in on dry blacktop with no lights on dash before locking up and throwing the vehicle off of the road. Caused me to wreck into a tree head on at 50 mph. Seatbelt did not lock up and airbags did not deploy. Vehicle was totaled with heavy front end damage including a bent and snapped frame. Prior to incident had issues with low beam headlights not working/going out prematurely. Was told by herrenstein Jeep in chillicothe this was not an electrical issue. Low beam headlights failed again 2 weeks prior to incident.

28 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

Passenger seatbelt will no longer retract as the guide seems to be cracked and broken. Because of this the broken piece is pinching the seat belt down not allowing it to work properly. Seat belt can be guided back in manually but not on its own the way it’s supposed to. Please consider issuing a recall as this is a very dangerous issue in case the vehicle is involved in an accident. Shops are charging $3300 + to fix this issue that seems be very common for this year make and model.

29 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/26/2024

On this vehicle both front eat seatbelt receivers are faulty. This was not caused by an accident or excessive wear of the seatbelts. When you push the seatbelt into the receiver, it will not accept the seatbelt without first pushing down on the seatbelt button. Additionally, the vehicle does not recognize when the seatbelts are in use and the light on the dash stays on regardless. This issue started some time ago, however, more recently (past 3 weeks) the airbag light started coming on intermittently. I took the vehicle to a shop (not a dealer) and they diagnosed the airbag light as being caused by the driver's side seatbelt retractor spring malfunction. They were unable to repair and directed me to a dealer. Upon contacting the dealer they are only offering replacement of the seatbelts faulty seatbelts as customers expense. I have contacted Dodge customer service and asked what assistance they my provide. That issues is currently open under case number 89679478.

30 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/20/2024

Passenger seatbelt does not retract nor does it have tension. If in a wreck it would not function properly.

31 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/05/2024

My passenger side seatbelt does not retract. The plastic “d” ring at the top is broken and it causes the seat belt to not retract. I have read that many people have this issue. I contacted my dealer and they said there was no recall on this part. Because it does not retract, it doesn’t “catch” and causes a safety hazard. A passenger would not be restrained in an accident.

32 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

The seat belt will not latch properly, it can take up to 10 minutes or longer fasten the driver's side seat belt. Now that I have it locked, I have to crawl in and out of the seat belt. I dare not unlock the seat belt in fear that I will not be able to get it to lock back. Please note, each time I have locked and unlocked the seat belt it has progressively gotten worse to lock the seat belt. I am at the point where I now longer unlock my seat belt, as I states earlier, I fear that I will not be able to lock it back.

33 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/18/2023

The driver side seatbelt does not retract. It has to be physically pushed back into the device so extra seatbelt is not hanging out. If one were to stop, the locking mechanism would have seatbelt slack in it so it wouldn’t restrain the driver immediately.

34 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/02/2023

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving or park, the passenger's side, front seatbelt had to be manually retracted. The contact stated that even if the seatbelt is manually retracted and the passenger's move forward, the seatbelt does not lock properly. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to independent mechanic, however, could not find the failure. The local dealer was made aware of the failure and the part was ordered, however, it is in back-order. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 195,000.

35 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/25/2023

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving 15 mph at night time on a road construction site, the front end of the vehicle suddenly declined on a 10 ft deep road surface. The contact stated that she immediate depressed the brake pedal; however, the front driver's side seat belt failed to restrain her as needed, and she hit her head against the steering wheel. The contact was able to exit the vehicle. The contact sustained a concussion and two black eyes, but did not receive medical assistance. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot. The contact then drove the vehicle to the residence. The contact stated that the failure occured due to the seat belt d-ring wear. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the front driver's side seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
