36 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/15/2024

Per the Jeep dealership that currently has my car, they said the drivers side seatbelt failed, the buckle will not lock. The male part will not go into the female part. There is no foreign object in the female part of the seat belt. My safety is put at risk every moment I'm in the car without a seatbelt on along with it being against the law to not have your seatbelt on. There is no warning lights that came on as the computer thinks the seatbelt is actually clicked in because its broken. A seatbelt should never fail especially on a 3 year old vehicle, however my extended warranty won't cover the "safety restraint system" and Jeep doesn't feel that they should have to replace it either.

37 Seat Belt problem of the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/04/2024

We took the car home on 5/4/24 & while drive it home we started to get a binging noise, I got scared I thought the car was braking down & a message came on the instrument panel driver 1 info & then it went away & then a few minutes later more binging this message was check 2nd row seat belt latch, stop driving also the screen, radio, and air conditioner, shut off then it come back on after a while. We had a lot going on & we had to wait for a passenger side mirror to come in because of prior damage being done to it & scratch marks that need to be buffed & everything could be done at one time. Still driving the car and picked up my parents at the airport 5/15/24 and same electrical issue coming across the instrument panel. On 5/22/24 took my parents to the airport and they were in the 2nd row seats & the 2nd row latch message came up three different time while I was driving @ 70 mph and couldn't do anything didn't have a screen, radio, air conditioner or anything. On 6/4/24 the engine light came on while driving & stayed on. Took it in on 6/5/24 & they couldn't duplicate any of the problems and they must of just reset the engine light because we pick up the car on 6/6/24 & when I driving home both the 2nd row seat belt issue come on, & driver 1 info I was doing 41mph when it shows up on the instrument panel & the check engine light came on the next day 6/7/24 we took it to another dealership & they were able to duplicate all the problems. From all the service records that I can see there has been electrical system problems sense10/2/23, 2/19/24, 2/26/24 also wiring repaired done & all these issues where reported by two different dealership before being purchased by us and the problems still keep happening 5/4/24,5/6/24,5/7/24,5/8/24,5/9/24,5/10/24,5/15/24,5/18/24,5/22/24, 6/4/24,6/5/24,6/6/24, & the seat belt problem sense 2/15/24 & continue until this day. This another dealership has duplicate all of the problems, but they have no solution for these issues.

39 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 05/01/2024

Passenger seatbelt will no longer retract as the guide seems to be cracked and broken. Because of this the broken piece is pinching the seat belt down not allowing it to work properly. Seat belt can be guided back in manually but not on its own the way it’s supposed to. Please consider issuing a recall as this is a very dangerous issue in case the vehicle is involved in an accident. Shops are charging $3300 + to fix this issue that seems be very common for this year make and model.

40 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/26/2024

On this vehicle both front eat seatbelt receivers are faulty. This was not caused by an accident or excessive wear of the seatbelts. When you push the seatbelt into the receiver, it will not accept the seatbelt without first pushing down on the seatbelt button. Additionally, the vehicle does not recognize when the seatbelts are in use and the light on the dash stays on regardless. This issue started some time ago, however, more recently (past 3 weeks) the airbag light started coming on intermittently. I took the vehicle to a shop (not a dealer) and they diagnosed the airbag light as being caused by the driver's side seatbelt retractor spring malfunction. They were unable to repair and directed me to a dealer. Upon contacting the dealer they are only offering replacement of the seatbelts faulty seatbelts as customers expense. I have contacted Dodge customer service and asked what assistance they my provide. That issues is currently open under case number 89679478.

41 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/20/2024

Passenger seatbelt does not retract nor does it have tension. If in a wreck it would not function properly.

42 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/05/2024

My passenger side seatbelt does not retract. The plastic “d” ring at the top is broken and it causes the seat belt to not retract. I have read that many people have this issue. I contacted my dealer and they said there was no recall on this part. Because it does not retract, it doesn’t “catch” and causes a safety hazard. A passenger would not be restrained in an accident.

43 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2024

The seat belt will not latch properly, it can take up to 10 minutes or longer fasten the driver's side seat belt. Now that I have it locked, I have to crawl in and out of the seat belt. I dare not unlock the seat belt in fear that I will not be able to get it to lock back. Please note, each time I have locked and unlocked the seat belt it has progressively gotten worse to lock the seat belt. I am at the point where I now longer unlock my seat belt, as I states earlier, I fear that I will not be able to lock it back.

44 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/18/2023

The driver side seatbelt does not retract. It has to be physically pushed back into the device so extra seatbelt is not hanging out. If one were to stop, the locking mechanism would have seatbelt slack in it so it wouldn’t restrain the driver immediately.

50 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

Driver's seatbelt is loose and won't retract. I tried to wash it, but it still hangs down to where it will get caught in the door when closing. This is a major safety issue in that my seatbelt is not snug against my body and would not protect me in an accident. I have seen numerous other complaints online about this same issue. Jeep is saying I will have to pay to have it diagnosed and repaired since it's out of warranty. Seat belts are required by law, but mine doesn't work!.

51 Seat Belt problem of the 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I was in a motor vehicle accident on 9/27/23 and my driver side seat belt had a retractor failure allowing me to be thrown forward and hit my chest on the steering wheel, causing chest contusion, bruising and pain. The cause of the accident was due to another vehicle losing control and hitting me head on.

52 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/15/2023

Passenger outer seat belt/retractor failed to retract. The belt has to be manually ratcheted back. Licensed repair shop removed & inspected mechanism for obstruction. Found no cause for failure, out of vehicle retracts properly. In a sudden stop the front passenger is not protected as the belt does not lock or retract without manual procedure. No warning lamps or codes. Contacted local dealership service department for possible recall or customer satisfaction bulletin & was told that nothing was available for vehicle. Replacement part is on national backorder with no eta according to local dealership parts department. Hundreds of units are on backorder leading me to conclude that the manufacturer is aware of a safety issue but has not provided a resolution to consumers.

56 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/19/2023

The drivers side seatbelt was not retracting correctly. We we’re taking a road trip on 95 and as a passenger I notice my seatbelt was very loose on me. When we stopped to get out, the seatbelt literally fell out the car door. We need to drive about 150 miles back home tomorrow and we are scared to death of being thrown through the windshield if there is a sudden braking or accident. I call the closest Jeep service center and they said there was no recall for the seatbelt not retracting. However, I found this in a google search: front outboard seat belts may not retract properly - x90 warranty extension date: 4/15/2021 models: • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee laredo • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee limited • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee overland • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee srt • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee summit summary: customers may comment on one or more of the following: the front driver and or passenger seat belts may not retract properly; a front seat belt d-ring plastic is cracked.

59 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/02/2023

With just under 40,000 miles on the vehicle, first the front passenger seat belt started to fail to retract, then a few months later the front driver side seat belt began to do the same thing. The dealer says they are out of warranty so it's my dime to fix. I wouldn't be concerned except that this is a huge safety issue, if the belt doesn't retract correctly when put on, it would fail to hold me or my passenger in place during an accident.

65 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/20/2023

While driving at low speed, the side curtain airbags deployed along with the front seat belts. No injuries just stunted by the loud bang. I took car to Jeep dealership to have recall r06/15v-046 repaired and to diagnose cause of side curtain airbags deployment. Dealer would not repair recall r06/15v-046 due to the requirement that the side curtain and seat belts be repaired before making the recall repairs. Side curtain airbags repair was not accomplished because some repair parts are no longer available (seatbelts/headliner). Dealer indicated that, even if they could have repaired side curtain airbags that the cost of the side curtain airbags repair would be on me. Dealer charged me for a diagnostic of side curtain airbags deployment. I feel that the manufacturer is responsible for the defects and are responsible for restitution. Subject car has airbags light on know but not beforehand. What is my recourse now that my car is unsafe with no repair available and of little value?.

68 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/03/2023

I purchased a used 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 7l v8 hemi on 03/03/2023 at approximately 7:30pm from rairdon Honda in burien washington. The car started displaying on the dashboard that the seat belts for the passengers weren’t on even though the seatbelts were indeed on, and then the sensors for the airbags started going off stating that there was a problem with the airbag sensor. The car was then taken back to rairdon Honda in burien and they simply stated that they recently replaced the car battery and that was the reason as to why the sensors weren’t working. After speaking to one of the technicians they stated since the seatbelt sensors showed that the seatbelt wasn’t on that incase of an accident the airbags wouldn’t deploy. This was not disclosed at the time of sale, I was reassured that everything would be fine when I took the car home the first time. I can’t risk having a car that has such severe safety issues and put my son and partner in this car knowing that the airbags could possibly fail to deploy.

69 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/28/2023

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the front driver’s and passenger side seat belts failed to retract back. No warning lights were illuminated. 70 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/21/2023

Driver seatbelt unlatches after secured. Several times I’ve had to make a sudden stop and my seatbelt comes undone . The airbag light did come on prior. I’m not sure if that warning light relates to seatbelt as well. I plan on taking it into the dealership to find out why the light is on. This is my sons car however I borrowed it for a few days and discovered this. He is a new driver and still learning about different mechanical issues that arise.
