39 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/01/2023

Driver's seatbelt is loose and won't retract. I tried to wash it, but it still hangs down to where it will get caught in the door when closing. This is a major safety issue in that my seatbelt is not snug against my body and would not protect me in an accident. I have seen numerous other complaints online about this same issue. Jeep is saying I will have to pay to have it diagnosed and repaired since it's out of warranty. Seat belts are required by law, but mine doesn't work!.

I was in a motor vehicle accident on 9/27/23 and my driver side seat belt had a retractor failure allowing me to be thrown forward and hit my chest on the steering wheel, causing chest contusion, bruising and pain. The cause of the accident was due to another vehicle losing control and hitting me head on.

41 Seat Belt problem of the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/15/2023

Passenger outer seat belt/retractor failed to retract. The belt has to be manually ratcheted back. Licensed repair shop removed & inspected mechanism for obstruction. Found no cause for failure, out of vehicle retracts properly. In a sudden stop the front passenger is not protected as the belt does not lock or retract without manual procedure. No warning lamps or codes. Contacted local dealership service department for possible recall or customer satisfaction bulletin & was told that nothing was available for vehicle. Replacement part is on national backorder with no eta according to local dealership parts department. Hundreds of units are on backorder leading me to conclude that the manufacturer is aware of a safety issue but has not provided a resolution to consumers.

44 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/19/2023

The drivers side seatbelt was not retracting correctly. We we’re taking a road trip on 95 and as a passenger I notice my seatbelt was very loose on me. When we stopped to get out, the seatbelt literally fell out the car door. We need to drive about 150 miles back home tomorrow and we are scared to death of being thrown through the windshield if there is a sudden braking or accident. I call the closest Jeep service center and they said there was no recall for the seatbelt not retracting. However, I found this in a google search: front outboard seat belts may not retract properly - x90 warranty extension date: 4/15/2021 models: • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee laredo • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee limited • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee overland • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee srt • 2014-2015 Grand Cherokee summit summary: customers may comment on one or more of the following: the front driver and or passenger seat belts may not retract properly; a front seat belt d-ring plastic is cracked.

Failure Date: 07/06/2023

My driver side seatbelt no longer retracts, and is not functioning.

47 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/02/2023

With just under 40,000 miles on the vehicle, first the front passenger seat belt started to fail to retract, then a few months later the front driver side seat belt began to do the same thing. The dealer says they are out of warranty so it's my dime to fix. I wouldn't be concerned except that this is a huge safety issue, if the belt doesn't retract correctly when put on, it would fail to hold me or my passenger in place during an accident.

48 Seat Belt problem of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/10/2023

While driving on a major interstate going 75mph lost power steering suddenly and was unable to control the vehicle. Air alert went off stating they were not functioning. Adaptive cruise control stopped working, lane departure stopped working. Every single alert that could be alerting was going off simultaneously. Seat belts were fastened, however seat belt alarm continued going off. Very scary and unsafe situation on major highway with 2 children in my car.

53 Seat Belt problem of the 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 04/20/2023

While driving at low speed, the side curtain airbags deployed along with the front seat belts. No injuries just stunted by the loud bang. I took car to Jeep dealership to have recall r06/15v-046 repaired and to diagnose cause of side curtain airbags deployment. Dealer would not repair recall r06/15v-046 due to the requirement that the side curtain and seat belts be repaired before making the recall repairs. Side curtain airbags repair was not accomplished because some repair parts are no longer available (seatbelts/headliner). Dealer indicated that, even if they could have repaired side curtain airbags that the cost of the side curtain airbags repair would be on me. Dealer charged me for a diagnostic of side curtain airbags deployment. I feel that the manufacturer is responsible for the defects and are responsible for restitution. Subject car has airbags light on know but not beforehand. What is my recourse now that my car is unsafe with no repair available and of little value?.

56 Seat Belt problem of the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/03/2023

I purchased a used 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5. 7l v8 hemi on 03/03/2023 at approximately 7:30pm from rairdon Honda in burien washington. The car started displaying on the dashboard that the seat belts for the passengers weren’t on even though the seatbelts were indeed on, and then the sensors for the airbags started going off stating that there was a problem with the airbag sensor. The car was then taken back to rairdon Honda in burien and they simply stated that they recently replaced the car battery and that was the reason as to why the sensors weren’t working. After speaking to one of the technicians they stated since the seatbelt sensors showed that the seatbelt wasn’t on that incase of an accident the airbags wouldn’t deploy. This was not disclosed at the time of sale, I was reassured that everything would be fine when I took the car home the first time. I can’t risk having a car that has such severe safety issues and put my son and partner in this car knowing that the airbags could possibly fail to deploy.

57 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/28/2023

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that the front driver’s and passenger side seat belts failed to retract back. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 135,000.

58 Seat Belt problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 02/21/2023

Driver seatbelt unlatches after secured. Several times I’ve had to make a sudden stop and my seatbelt comes undone . The airbag light did come on prior. I’m not sure if that warning light relates to seatbelt as well. I plan on taking it into the dealership to find out why the light is on. This is my sons car however I borrowed it for a few days and discovered this. He is a new driver and still learning about different mechanical issues that arise.

61 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/05/2023

There is an extended recall regarding the driver and passenger seatbelts in 2014-2015 Dodge durangos and 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokees, number d-21-04. My driver seatbelt retracts very slowly and the passenger seatbelt does not retract at all without manual manipulation. Because of this safety issue I brought my Jeep Grand Cherokee into a dealership in January 2023. At the time I was told parts (x90) were not available yet. I have since called monthly because my car at this point is unsafe to drive with passengers without a repair. Today (June 2023) I was told that there is an indefinite backorder and there is no estimated remedy for the part. The service technician from the dealership indicated that the part is likely not being manufactured anymore. He indicated that my only option was to either drive an unsafe vehicle, stop driving it, or sell it. I was informed that Chrysler would likely not be manufacturing a fix for another 6 months to one year.

62 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

Driver side seatbelt won’t retract. I’ve cleaned the seatbelt thoroughly and still won’t retract. Vehicle has only 77k miles.

63 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/11/2022

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? -the rear driver side seatbelt does not click in and does not function. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? - the rear passenger is unable to buckle. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? -no has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? -no were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? -no I recently purchased this vehicle on December 10th, 2022. During the test drive the salesman sat in that seat. He did not bring to my attention during the test drive. The following day I realized this issue and the dealer had stated that since I did not mention it during my visit that they would not fix it for free. This was at a dealer in illinois, I am now back in iowa and would like the get it fixed here. The car seems to be in a rear end accident, although the dealer did not specifically disclose where it was in an accident.

64 Seat Belt problem of the 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 12/08/2022

A few days after purchasing this car we noticed the front seatbelts weren’t retracting after unbuckling. After pulling out the seatbelt shoulder strap and inspecting it, it was cut and frayed, which was catching and not allowing it to retract. The front driver and passenger shoulder belts were both like this. We took the vehicle into a Jeep dealer and had it checked out and had the seatbelts replaced for obvious safety reasons. The gentleman who worked on our Jeep said he had seen this on other Chrysler models as well.

65 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/25/2022

What component: the piece of plastic trim that helps guide the seatbelt into the wall of the car has cracked and is preventing the seatbelt from retracting. Safety risk: this prevents the seatbelt from retracting while driving the car (if it becomes loose it stays loose and therefore doesn't restrain the driver. ) inspection: the dealer said this is not covered under warranty or recall. (I called and described the problem to them. ) this just started suddenly with no warning. My car has about 110,000 miles and this happened recently.

66 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/12/2022

I was driving and pressed on the gas to go and my car shifted into neutral and wouldn't let me go. I almost got hit by a truck due to this. Luckily he swerved to avoid me. Also my seat belt pulls out but won't retract on passenger side door.

67 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/08/2022

The car just stalled in the middle of the road on a busy street with the information 4wd drive temporarily unavailable till service. There was no prior warning, the car has around 80k miles and has been taken care of regularly with no outsanding calls or other maintenance. Checking the resources available, the reliability on this car seems pretty low with many know transmission issues. I had the car towed to the dealer and they are wanting to fix 1. Valve body and connector to pan, 2. Dtcm and broken engine and trans mount. A few weeks back the drivers side seat belt stopped retracting (the dealer said they would fix that). The car just stalling with no prior notification or issues added to which the car belt retracting happened on a busy street and very well could have happened in the freeway causing safety and security issues for this and other vehicles on the road. There are innumerable cases of transmissions reports and issues for this vehicle, most of those fixed earlier on during the warranty might just seemed to happened a little bit later. It is a disaster waiting to happen with other vehicle owners if not addressed proactively in my humble opinion, I was relatively lucky to have happened without an incident but it could have been worse. Please need your help in addressing this safety issue ASAP.

68 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/27/2022

The seat belt would not retract, and it also would not tighten around the chest area of passengers. The belt would just lay on your lap. It was a safety hazard because if there would have been into a accident, it would not have prevented the passenger from going through the windshield.

69 Seat Belt problem of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 10/24/2022

The front seat belts will not retract. Part seems to be broken. Jeep says not a safety issue and it will be a month till they can fix it. I asked how am I supposed to drive with a seat belt that doesn’t work/ response was- I don’t know. The vehicle has 103105 miles.
