36 Tire problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/01/2010

After reading where multiple Jeep Grand Cherokee srt8 owners were experiencing front tire failure with factory tires, I had my tires checked during an alignment. Both of my front tires are experiencing a tread separation failure. I bought this vehicle with brand new tires on it, 0 miles from a local dealer. I contacted goodyear corporate, who sent me to a goodyear dealer locally, who inspected my tires, informed me they were defective, and offered me a pro-rated replace of 50% off. I feel that if a tire (or any product) has a manufacturing defect, then it should be replaced as such and not pro-rated. The tire was obviously defective from day one, and is only showing such after some use. Now I have to pay for replacement of tires that are not completely used nor worn to treadwear markers for fear of complete tire failure.

39 Tire problem of the 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 06/16/2010

I bought a 2008 Jeep srt8 at the end of December 2009 in florida with approx. 18900 miles on it and got a full certified warranty with it. I drove it to minnesota where I live and do not drive it much at all. I have put around 4900 miles on it since then and at best buy putting in new headlights they told me my front tires tread was separating. I already had a appointment scheduled the next day to have the dealership fix the leak in my roof for the second time. The inside tread on both of my front tires was really bad and the dealership said I should not drive it till it gets new tires. I was at a dealership about a month before (fixing leak) and they didn't mention it at all. If the dealership didn't notice it how would I? best buy noticed it and they don't even fix Jeep srt8s, what would have happened if it blew on the highway? I am not a heavy foot driver, it drives perfectly and I have never hit anything with the car. Looking online it seems this is a huge problem with everyone who has a srt8 SUV. I have also had my ac unit replaced, and taillight rewired, airbag control module, esp bas light in dash fixed. When bringing it to the dealer to get it fixed, it seems like its the first one they have ever seen, and just assume that its my driving that causes this. I have only seen 2 other Jeep srt8 in real life and most shop people I talk to have never seen one driving let alone worked on one and knows the problems with it. The dealership blames the alignment caused it since the ball bearings were fine to them. The rear tires are fine on the vehicle just the inside of the front and cant find anyone that can explain why they are doing this. I paid 586 dollars to get 2 of the same factory tires with alignment. I do not feel like I should have to pay for new tires and the alignment for it. I think goodyear and Jeep no there is a serious problem with the tires and they are still making us pay for it when its there fault.

44 Tire problem of the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

Both front tires separated on the inside edges of the tires. Had noticed it wearing thin at around 13 thousand. Had the alignment checked, and it was in perfect spec. Around 15 thousand, I noticed a very thin spot and had the alignment checked again, and the aligner told me that the metal was showing through, and the tires were about to split apart. Had the tires changed for another brand on all four corners, and have not have any problems since after 22,000 more miles. Still have the original front tires for reference or inspection, and all alignment sheets. Being an incident from over a year ago, I am not 100% sure on the dates.

Front good year tires separating from the belt. Car is in perfect alignment checked by dealer. Hundreds maybe thousands have been reporting the same problem, all at around 20k miles. Dealer failing to warranty them claiming that its normal on these trucks due to the suspension??? not my problem! do not plan on spending $460 dollars per tire every 20k miles.

49 Tire problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/30/2008

I own a both 2006 and a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee srt-on the 2007 model, the front left tire failed from tread separation during early October (tires were not very worn) - I had all four tires replaced. Unfortunately, the front left tire on my 2006 Jeep failed yesterday (11/30/2008) with approximately 29,000 miles on the odometer. In this most recent failure, about 2 inches of tread on the inner side separated and came completely off the tire. I have thus had identical tire failures on two separate vehicles equipped with the same oem (goodyear) tires. In both cases, apparent tread wear was not high.

50 Tire problem of the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 08/20/2008

A new goodyear wrangler rt/s tire (not at/s as shown on your pulldown menu), disintegrated while traveling on I-81 in virginia at approximate 65 mph. The tire was one of two wrangler rt/s tires installed on the front of the vehicle earlier in the week at chandler's auto repair in herndon, va. The driver maintained control and pulled the vehicle (1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee) safely to the side of the road. I checked the inflation before we departed on our trip and it was 34 lbs. The occupants in the vehicle reported seeing no objects on the road, potholes or other road hazards--just a sudden pop and then pieces of black material flying by the vehicle. I do not have the remnants of the tire, which was replaced at the wal-mart in staunton, va, but I do have photographs taken at the site. The failure occurred immediately north of exit 225 (southbound) on I-81. This is approximately 160 miles from our home. Allowing for a few errands before departing on our trip, I doubt the tire had more than 200-225 miles on it before it failed. The weather was fair and dry and the air temperature 86 f. I-81 is smooth and in excellent condition at the location of the failure. While I did not report the failure to the police, a virginia state safety patrol vehicle stopped and may have a record. The tread was relatively intact but appears to have separated from the rest of the tire.

52 Tire problem of the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 03/23/2008

Contacted Jeep to tell them of our rims that are failing, due to product deterioration and they decided to settle for half of the cost at the first call. These rims are expanding at the mag part of the wheel & separating from the rim. This is my wife's car and I might not be around if they fail & cause an accident. I don't feel I should have to pay a thousand dollars to replace rims that went bad at 22,000 miles. Keith bishop.

57 Tire problem of the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 11/06/2006

I received a letter in the mail from goodyear tire & rubber company called a "customer satisfaction program". It concerns the eagle rsa emt (run flat) tires that were installed on my 2006 Jeep. I called the consumer relations number listed on the letter and they directed me to a local dealer. The dealer told me the tires can separate inside and basically come apart! the dealer has to take them off the rims and inspect the inside of the tire and then determine if it's good or bad. If it's bad they will replace that tire, but only if they "think" it's bad? what happens if they think it isn't bad and it comes apart later on? either this is a recall or it isn't? if it is then all the tires should be replaced!.

58 Tire problem of the 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 09/17/2006

I had a slow leak in my rear tires , so I went to get them plugged. I was told that the rims had rusted through the back tires and punctured the tires. I could not get into a Jeep dealership for two weeks so my mechanic ordered a new rim (Jeep part) and two new tires so that I could drive safely. Jeep refuses to accept responsibility based on the fact that I had my own mechanic replace the tires. I was told that I should have waited two weeks. However, I was not going to risk driving on a faulty rim and tires. I still have the rusted out rims and punctured tires that Jeep refuses to acknowledge.

60 Tire problem of the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Failure Date: 07/31/2005

The goodyear wrangler hp's on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee are wearing terribly! there are only 6400 miles on the SUV and the tires are feathering something awful! the vehicle was in for service and tire rotation July 31, 2006. I also asked the dealer to inspect the tread wear on the tires. The dealer stated that it was normal. I have since had the vehicle examined by a service/parts representative at a different local dealership. He stated that in no way was the tire wear normal. He added that the wear on my tires resembles that of a vehicle with nearly 20,000 miles on it. This is unacceptable in my eyes.
