3 Electrical System problem of the 1997 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 12/10/2015

I own a 1997 Jeep Laredo & received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 13v252000 (fuel system, gasoline, structure) no dealership so I drove 120 miles to nearest Jeep service dept. They kept the vehicle for 4 hours then stated the parts that were needed to repair the vehicle were unavailable. The dealer was unable to provide an expected date for when the part would become available. It has been over a year and I never heard back. Since then I applied for the $100 gift card and they said I am ineligible since the item was already repaired. This Jeep has so many issues. Electrical short throughout entire vehicle that cuts out stereo, blinkers, running lights, brake lights, dash lights. Its not the fuses either. The drivers door hinges are rotting. The car now stalls daily even when going freeway speeds. The driver side seat motor has seized and no longer adjusts. Engine light stays on and it now won't pass smog tests. The front car shakes and needs tie rods. I am experiencing a complete loss. My only option is to scrap the vehicle since repairs would cost more than the vehicle is worth.

4 Electrical System problem of the 2006 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 06/28/2015

Complaint for another Jeep owner when driving my 2006 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo the lights around the pnd21 will circle all of the gears and either go into neutral or 1st gear on its own while you are driving it, it happens at least 2-3 times a week. It is very dangerous when you are driving down the road - have taken to dealer said it needs electronic shift module at a cost of $750. Called customer service Jeep they said they couldn't help with the cost of repair. I have looked into this problem and it seems that there a lot of these same 2006 Jeeps with the same problem. They said my Jeep has to many miles 85,000 - but it seems like it happens to call Jeeps no mater what the mileage - I think this is a defective part and they should make it right - now matter how many miles. This is a very dangerous problem.

13 Electrical System problem of the 1998 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 09/19/2013

I had just purchased a lifted 1998 Jeep grand cherokee Laredo from a private party. When I test drove the vehicle there were no problems. However, on my way home with my new purchase, the vehicle stalled while driving, causing steering and brake failure. I thought maybe it was a fluke but then it happened repeatedly over the next several months. I began switching parts hoping to fix the problem, but to no avail. This is a huge safety concern as my children sometime ride in the vehicle. After hearing of similar instances happening I believe that Chrysler has a big problem on their hands. The product has faults and should be addressed by the manufacturer before a costly/ lawsuit/death occurs. I love my Jeep, and would like to know what a solution is to fix an inferior product.

14 Electrical System problem of the 1996 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 03/28/2013

I just brought this truck a few moths back and when I'm driving the car will just cut off on it's own. It's quite frequent now. I've been on here to look for any recalls but can't seem to find any for this model. It is very unsafe and scary to be driving and all of a sudden your car looses power and cuts off. I do a lot of highway driving with my children and it's dangerous. Jeep please do something to fix the problem. I have an honest mechanic and he doesn't charge me to look at it but can't find or fix the problem if it doesn't show a code.

17 Electrical System problem of the 1997 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 07/25/2012

Vehicle stalls and cut off at any speed. Sometimes it cranks back up ,other times immobile have to wait 20-30 mins to restart. Backfires. Blown out 2 mufflers. Spent hundreds of dollars on needless parts. Sensors, spark plugs, rotary cap etc. Still stalls, cut off in middle of traffic. Inside lights will not work. Had to remove fuse, lights remain on all the time. Very unsafe to me and my family. Never know when it will run or stop. Stalling will cause serious rear end collision and maybe cause fire. With so many complaints,I am shocked there is no recall. These Jeeps are unreliable, unsafe, embarrassing and oneday will cause serious accident . Abs light on,engine light never goes out. I have spent most of days at the mechanic. Jeep dealership will not intervene to resolve issue.

18 Electrical System problem of the 1999 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

When I first bought the car used in 2002 I noticed a quick flash of my lights at night on/off/on while driving. Thought I was imagining at the time. It would system shut down only at stops and very infrequent. I drive it daily and now it happens 3-6 times a week with no warning. Total system shut down. Engine stalls and all gauges are off. Loss of brakes and power steering. It has always started back up. At stop lights, on the road at high speed, it used to happen only at stop lights but now it happens anywhere and much more frequent. Very scary.

19 Electrical System problem of the 1996 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

The vehicle (1996 Jeep grand cherokee) often stalls in traffic. It fails at any speed, whether the vehicle is idling or in motion. It sometimes takes 15+ minutes for the vehicle to restart. It has stalled numerous times in the last year even in oncoming traffic. The problem has gotten progressively worse. There have been many diagnoses of the problem and many phantom problems repaired with new parts installed, the latest by the dealer in huntsville, alabama who just replaced the connectors on the electrical harness. It didn't fix the problem, now they want me to pour another $500+ dollar into repairing the vehicle sighting the pcm as the â??problemâ??. My current bill is now at $1,200; add the power control module (pcm) and now the repair cost is more than the current value of the vehicle. Realizing they are only the dealer I contacted the Jeep customer assistance center at 1 877 426 5337 and was blown off by the Jeep specialist [xxx] (he had been trained to be apologetic though). I was promised help in a previous conversation with [xxx] but was given no hope of assistance in my latest contact with [xxx] which was 8/23/13. I asked if I could speak with someone in a higher position according to [xxx] he was the decision maker. There should be a recall of this and all Jeep brand vehicles with similar life threatening problems. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

23 Electrical System problem of the 2000 Jeep Laredo

Failure Date: 01/17/2007

At 7:20 this morning when I started the Jeep, the headlights and taillights and dash lights did not work. The high beams worked only while I held the switch on. They wouldn't stay on. Turn indicators worked. Drove son to school and came home. Took Jeep manual inside to look up fuses. Discovered there are separate fuses for left and right so I doubted it was the fuse. Decided I would have to take the Jeep to the dealer. When I went back to the garage about 7:35, the lights were on (I had left the switch on by mistake, and the lights on alarm didn't sound when I left the car). Now when I opened the car door, the lights on alarm bell rang. I turned off the lights and turned them on again. I turned on the high beams. Everything was working normal. Called the dealer and they said they really can't do anything as long as everything is working. Surely this has happened to somebody else. I don't want to be driving back from the airport some night and have the lights go out.
