The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. While driving various speeds, the contact heard a pop sound and a stick separated from the window. The contact stated that the part that connects to the motor inside the panel was ripped in half. The contact stated that all of the windows failed to operate. The failure occurred a month ago. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the window motors needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was driving home and noticed my window for no reason fell down. The Jeep was bought new by us in 2002. The back seats or windows have been rarely used. We use air and heat, so with the exception of the driver's window, we have hardly rolled down the other windows. I did research about the falling down on the Jeep windows. I learned Chrysler knew since 2002 about the defective windows. They finally recalled back some of the 2006 and 2007 Jeeps. I called them and they do not seem concerned about the danger this could cause. I feel because of the little use of the window is why we have not had the problems several have had. They then proceed to charge you $500. To repair the window with the same kind of part that will break again. This has happened to several people. I asked Chrysler about this part, they confess just recently they have changed the part to work. I see the danger this could be if hauling a young child. Even though a child is to be in a child seat, they sometimes can get out. If driving down the road and the window just drops, a child could fall out. In a wreck this could endanger anyone. All the windows in the Jeep have a problem of breaking for no reason, but mostly the back windows. Chrysler is aware of this and should have recalled all these windows. They are bleeding the Jeep owners by having to continue to repair the defective windows and are endangering people's life. They should be made accountable for the defective parts that they knew they had and continued to use.
2002 Jeep Liberty. Consumer writes to express discontent regarding several replacements for vehicle including left rear window regulator.
Both, driver side front and rear, and passenger side rear window regulator clips are broken. All of the windows dropped down into door and are now being held up with a plastic wedge jammed in the opening to hold the windows up. Three windows on this one vehicle and thousands of other complaints online and there is no recall? when you are driving down the highway at 70 mph, while it is raining, and the window regulator clip breaks and the window drops down with no notice? this is a safety defect that should be repaired by the manufacturer.
Jeep 2002 window regulators keep breaking. 3rd one.
I have a 2002 Jeep Liberty and I have to replace a window regulator for the 5th time. Every in every instance it has been the rear windows. In one instance I was driving down the highway and the window came down. I have two children in car seats and the last thing I need is for them to throw something out or for something to happen to them b/c the regulator failed while I'm driving down the hwy. Other times it was parked in the driveway and when I looked out of my house the rear window was down again. The regulators were just replaced on 6-06-10 and now it is 08-26-10. The new regulator didn't last very long, huh. After all of the problems that I 've had with this Jeep I will never buy another one!! I have noticed on different online forums that this seems to be a very common problem for thousands of Jeep owners. For some reason nobody seems to be addressing this situation. We spend lots of money on vehicles and for their upkeep! the least Jeep can do is fix the problem or they may have a bigger problem ahead when everyone decides to stop purchasing Jeeps. Since I have already decided to do that guess that's one consumer down the drain for Jeep! OH, the other thing. . . . I live in TX and it was 107 degrees the other day. . . . Would you want to have a problem with your window in this heat. . . . Renders the ac virtually useless! I don't need or want my children sitting in a hot vehicle and risk potential heat associated problems b/c of a crappy product! if it occurs at home then I duct tape it before I leave.
2002 Jeep Liberty renegade right rear window regulator broke for the 2nd time in 3 years. Window stuck down and regulator worm cable caused damage to door latch preventing door from opening from the inside.
02 Jeep Liberty window regulator. This is the 2nd time this has happened to my vehicle and based on the forums I have searched it has happened to 1000's of people. This could be a potential safety problem as the window just comes down on it's own when the cheap plastic part breaks inside. If a child were next to the window, they could unbuckle seat and possibly get outside vehicle. In which case they could be hit or the parent could be distracted and wreck while trying to get child back to safety. There is no warning this is going to happen and all Jeep would need to do is replace the part with a metal part and not cheap plastic. I do not know of any cases but would it not be better to try an fix this problem before we have a tragedy?.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated the rear driver side power window failed. The dealer advised he was aware of the failure and the window regulator would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 97,000.
2002 Jeep Liberty window rear driver side falling down and will not come back up. Have replaced the regulator in 2007 and 2009. Now I will have to replace again. This is a defect and safety issue. Someone can get right into your car if you can not get this fixed right away. I have also had to replace the rear passenger window regulator in 2008. I have seen numerous complaints about this on the internet. This has been going on for several years with the Liberty. Chrysler should fix this for free and not make the customer pay for a defect. Does someone have to get killed in a robbery or something before this issue is fixed.
While driving at freeway speed, the passenger rear window slid down into the door. The cheap plastic lift plate that is part of the window regulator broke. It has been replaced twice now and just broke again. With the window down in the door the vehicle is vulnerable to break-in and damage from the weather. It is a safety issue for me because my child's carseat is in this location.
Jeep Liberty. Rear windows regulators continue to fail. The windows just fall into the door well while not in use. I rarely open those windows and they just fall out. I have now replaced them four times in the past three years. The dealer states there is no recall on this defect. There is certainly a defective part as I have read over and over of this situation occurring with all makes of the Jeep Liberty.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the door locks failed to disengage and he was unable to exit the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where the contact was informed that the window motor had failed and caused the lock to fail. The contact also stated that the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 135,000. Updated 2/21/13 we purchased the 2002 Jeep Liberty brand new as a special order in October 2001 as a 2002 model year. The right rear passenger door power window motor assembly failed. This inhibited the door from being opened from wither the inside or outside. At the time, we did not have a child, now we do, when carrying passengers, they had to enter and exit through the drivers rear door. Had there been accident which blocked the drivers side, the rear passengers would be trapped. I had the door fixed at the dealer in April 2011. Since that time, we had our first child and as law requires he is in the back seat. Again, the motor assembly failed and the door can not be opened from the inside. This is a safety issue and I feel a design flaw. I have contacted Chrysler motor corp and they do not care. The dealer washed their hands of any culpability in the matter as well. I know I can not be the only one who has experienced this issued with the door failing to open when the window motor breaks. Updated 02/25/13.
2002 Jeep window regulators continue to fail and windows fall open.
March 2008 my rear passenger window regulator failed. Today, August 2009, now the driver side window had just dropped. I see tons of Jeep Liberty owners have had the exact same problem I called Chrysler to complain, and they told me that there is no recall and I am just going to have to pay to repair it. Check online at how many people have the exact same problem!.
I own a 2002 Jeep Liberty and have had to replace the window regulator 4 or 5 times. Driving down the road the window just falls. This is very dangerous because it is shocking and can cause a wreck. The window falls all the way down into the door and there is nothing that you can do about it. You must repair immediately because your vehicle is not secure- theft, rain etc. If the windows are down the thump thump of the rear tires is excrutiating to your ears. Each repair cost $350. To $500. Chrysler and the dealerships are fully aware of this problem and refuse to do anything. They admit that this is a bad design (a plastic clip holds your window up) the part is only warranted for 12 months. On the consumer affairs website alone there were 93 complaints of this happening. Most owners are just like me and have had to replace the regulator multiple times. Chrysler should be made to recall any vehicle that has this regulator. No other parts are available except for mopar and the part has cost me $137. To $170. Just for the part- no labor. This has happened to me while under warranty and out of warranty. Now both rear windows broke within two days. I repair and next year the same thing will happen. I and any other Jeep owner is keeping Chrysler and mopar in business by these repairs.
While I was driving on the freeway, the right rear window on my 02 Jeep Liberty fell down. This, in turn, caused the rear door to deadbolt itself. That is, it will only open 3/4 inch and then the latch catches on something. I'm suspecting a broken window cable may be keeping the lock mechanism from fully releasing the door. This suspected design defect in the window regulator mechanism has made the right rear door unusable. If the window fell when passengers were in the back seat, they would have been trapped in the car. As you need to open the door to take off the interior door trim to get to the window regulator mechanism, the deadbolt state of the lock is preventing the repair to be made.
2002 Jeep Liberty. Consumer states left rear window was stuck open the consumer stated the window regulator was replaced three times. The window would fall down and get stuck.
My rear windows have broken (regulator) now 4 times. I hardly ever use these windows and then one day one will just fall down and it never fails that within a day or week the other will follow. The last time I had one of the windows fixed it was only 4 months ago. If the dealer wasn't granting me some form of goodwill warranty it would be costing about $600 every time the both get fixed. The part is obviously not working and needs to be recalled!!!!!!!!.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the rear window regulators failed and were replaced twice. The windows would fall into the door panel upon the failure. The contact was unable to remove the glass windows from the door panel and the vehicle was taken for repairs. The current and failure mileage was 111,000.
We drive a Jeep Liberty 2002 which we purchased at carmax in arlington,TX in 2006. Despite having numerous problems with electric windows for which they had to replace under the extended warranty, we began to notice a loud popping sound coming from the front end when we make a hard left or right turn. We took the car to a service mechanic, diagnosed cv axles,ball-joint problems. Attempt made to correct it in several occasions, but the problem re-occurred and getting more worrisome by the amount if time it happened in a day and 7 days/week. We also take noticed that we're not the only one (Jeep owners) with this problem, we are tired to take the Jeep to repair mechanics and truly, we feel unsafe to drive it on the freeway. What is the solution? will Chrysler fix the problem? thanks.
The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. While driving approximately 10 mph over a pothole, the driver side rear window fell into the door panel. The contact was unable to open the rear driver side door from both the interior and exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the window regulator motor was replaced. The failure recurred numerous times affected all except the front driver side window. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer as well as independent mechanic where the window regulator motor was replaced. The doors of the failed window motors would not open until the motor was replaced. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 85,800.
There have been five instances of failure of the regulators for the rear door power windows. In this latest incident, the cable for the windows snapped and came through the door lock area in the jam on the rear driver side.
Both rear power windows on my 2002 Jeep Liberty have failed to operate. They just fall down into the door and I have to prop them up with different devices. So far windows have failed 2 times on one side and 1 side on the other. The safety issue to me is someone getting into my car when the window falls into the inside of the door.
I have now had 6 window regulators fail on my 2002 Jeep Liberty le. The major safety issue is with regard to personal property and theft as it is now impossible to secure the vehicle if not in a locked, private garage.
The vehicle experienced problems with the passenger window, there were noises coming from the dash and door area. Also the starter failed, and the vehicle was getting poor gas mileage.
The power windows squeaked when the consumer rolled them up or down. Also the air condition was not working properly.
I have had to replace the power window regulators on the back windows of my Jeep Liberty 2002 on 5 different occasions. I have barely used these windows and this has been a hemorrhage of money. The first time this happened, they informed me at the dealership that I was over the date of warranty, and that my mileage also exceeded the limit. I had to replace the two back ones, then I had to go back and replace a third one, less than a year after that. The fourth and fifth time it happened, I went to an independent shop as going to the dealership was too expensive, now the window does not work again. The windows just fall, and water and debris come into the car. Among Jeep Liberty owners, this is a very common problem, and one that there should have been a recall on. I want to place a complaint because this car came defective and nothing has been done so far to assist people who purchased it. Customers need protection on this matter.
