5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2016

I have owned my 2006 Jeep Liberty for 6 years, and not one time have I completely filled my fuel tank that it didn't gush fuel out everywhere, including on me !.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2016

Every time I fill the gas tank (parked with engine turned off), gas spews from the filler tube, runs down the side of the car, pools on the ground and underneath the car, creating an extremely dangerous situation. Gas continues to spew out and all over the area until I desperately grab the gas pump nozzle handle and manually disengage it! I now never can depend upon auto shut-off!! I have to manually operate the pump nozzle, not take my hand off it, listen to the gushing tone sound as the tank nears the full point and shut off the nozzle by hand when I hear the gas getting ready to spew all over the place!! this is so dangerous!!!!! over the course of several years, I thought this problem was just unique to my car but after talking with two other Jeep Liberty owner acquaintances, I discovered they had the same dangerous safety problem with their Jeep Liberty, as well. This is so dangerous. . . . It needs to be recalled and fixed!!! ("when did this happen field below: July 2009 to present").

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

Every time I start to fill my tank it overflows. I lose approx. 1/2 gallon on the ground every time I put fuel in. This is ridiculous! I just bought this Jeep a few weeks ago. The previous owner/ dealership did not make us aware of this problem.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2015

First refuel since purchase on 3/7/15. Gas tank overflowed onto ground and on person refueling. Fuel nozzle shut off after gas gushed out.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2015

Fuel spillage every time fueling tank. Takes ~ 15min to fill take. Need to reduce fuel flow from pump down to a drizzle otherwise fuel spills all over car, ground and myself. Very dangerous!.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2014

When pushed to speed up at a fast rate and upon approaching 65mph or faster the service engine light flashes slowly. My mechanic found the code reader saying a misfire was happening. When that light flashes it starts to shake pretty bad. Determined that cylinder 1 has low compression. Only way to find out for sure what to do next is to tear down the motor which I do not have the money for that. Sad how waistful people are forced to be with vehicles. Its still pretty new!! we took good care of this Jeep maintaining it correctly since we got it with only 37k miles and has not had any problems till now. So this was a shock! before 37k miles I am not aware of this particular Jeep's engine repair history. Also this same Jeep had the clogged fuel line causing the tank to spill out while fueling up when it was not full yet.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

I received a recall notice in August 2014 regarding the fuel tank on my car. It has taken until today to get the part at the dealership, jones of bel air. Some of the blame is due to the parts not being available and that jones did not contact me when the parts came in, as they said they would. I believe this has placed me at risk of harm due to the fuel tank leak that could cause a fire in the event of a collision.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2014

Received a recall notice over a year ago. Dealer continues to say parts are not available. This is not a timely repair and every day this is delayed is another opportunity for a rear end collision to impact the gas tank. Coming to believe that with the volume of recalls issued the NHTSA does not have the ability to enforce these repairs.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2014

Every time for the past 9 months when I have filled up my gas tank it overflows and doesn't shut off.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

I received a recall notice approximately 6 months ago that the fuel tank could leak during certain types of rear end collisions. I was notified that Chrysler would install a rear trailer hitch to manage crash forces in low-speed impacts. The recall stated that this inspection and install would occur when parts were available. I still have not received the inspection or follow up letter.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2014

I received a recall n46/NHTSA 13v-252 in January that said I would need to contact my dealer in order to get the fuel tank leakage issue fixed. I have called dealers repeatedly and they keep saying that they do not have the parts available. It has been five months and that is too long to wait. The recall notice stated that if the dealer fails to remedy this defect wihin a reasonable time, I may submit a written complaint to this website. That is what I am doing now. Please let me know what further steps I need to take to ensure the safety of my family while driving this defective vehicle.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

Received recall notice on 1/7-2014. Called local Chrysler dealer numerous time since Jan. They keep telling me that Chrysler has yet to come up with the remedy. I would think that anything that has to do with a leaky fuel tank, would get high priority. Why don't the NHTSA look into what is going on thanks.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2013

The NHTSA safety recall of my Jeep Liberty to repair a deadly defect with the placement of the fuel tank has not yet been repaired by Chrysler. They informed me of the recall in December, 2013, but the dealer (jim riehl's friendly Chrysler Jeep in warren, mi) told me they didn't have the part yet. When I called that same establishment on March 3, 2014 to schedule the important safety repair, I was given the same response - they didn't have the part in stock yet. Today I just received a mailing from jim riehl's friendly Jeep in warren mi which states:"recall notice. As of December 12, 2013, this vehicle has the following incomplete recalls/customer satisfaction notices: n46 (n46 / NHTSA 13v-252) please contact us to schedule an appointment. Recall/customer satisfaction notice repairs will be performed free. " when I called russ in service at that same friendly Jeep today, may 28, 2014 - - part not yet in stock. The statement about the recall repair is fraudulent - the mailing contained two coupons for vehicle maintenance. When will you stop this farce and force Chrysler to stop endangering their customers and repair their deadly defect?.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2013

I am asking for help in getting my 2006 Jeep Liberty safety defect taken care of by the local dealer. It is a known fact that the tank location on this type vehicle is dangerous if car is hit from behind. I have tried calling and writing to perkins Chrysler without any response to date. I feel that corporate greed is trumping my safety. Can you offer any help?.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

I called Chrysler (800-247-9753) and spoke to laneece about NHTSA reference #13v252000; gas tank assembly recall and was told my vehicle. She told me my 2006 was not on their list for recall. I gave her the last 8 digits of my VIN and she said it was not on the recall. I referenced the NHTSA number and was told the same thing. I told her I am the only owner of the vehicle and purchased it from barnett Chrysler/Jeep, white bear lake, mn in Mar 2007. Again I was told my VIN is not on recall. I asked how that could be; the gas tanks were not placed in different locations depending on the vehicle. They are placed in the same location on the vehicle. When I asked why my vehicle is not on the list, all I was told is the VIN isn't listed. I was told it would be corrected with a tow hitch; which I do not currently have. I would like to know where I can go to file a further compaint about how this is being handled and why I cannot get any definite answers to my questions. Thank you. Sandy oldeen.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2013

I purchased a 2006 Jeep Liberty summer of 2013 and the first time I filled it up, the fuel overflowed onto the back fender and onto the ground. I have experienced this numerous times when attempting to fill the tank fully. It results in a mess at best and a fire hazard at worst. This appears to be a known issue, yet has not been addressed for resolution. I would say this is definitely a safety hazard and risk. Please consider action.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

This was the first time that we had filled the tank up on our 2006 Jeep Liberty since we purchased it on June 7, 2013. While standing at the pump waiting for the tank to fill up, the tank started overflowing with gas. I had gas all over me, the car, and the ground. I wrote it off as being a problem with the pump. 1 week later I go to a different pump to fill it up, and it happens again. So I called the dealership that services my vehicles and explained the problem and we took it in for them to look at. They said that this is a common problem but Jeep will not fix the issue. I started looking on Jeep forums and have found quite a few instances of this same problem on the Jeep Liberty and these people have also filed claims to the nhsta. The only way for the problem to be fixed is for the tank to be replaced because there is a check valve in the tank that is causing this. This is a very costly repair as I have called a couple of dealerships around in the are with the tank alone costing over $1,400 dollars. This is a known issue that Jeep refuses to fix. It is a safety issue due to a manufacturing defect.
