Whenever the vehicle is filled with fuel, when the automatic shutoff occurs, fuel flows back out of the fuel tank onto the vehicle and the ground!.
The fuel tank began to have a problem with overflowing when refueling. It is nearly impossible to fill the tank without gas pouring out of the vehicle. I am concerned about the potential fire hazard.
Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that when adding fuel to the fuel tank the fuel would spill out of the filler hole. The contact indicated that on multiple occasions the fuel had spilled out onto the contact. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel tank was defective. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 78,000. Jft.
Check valve in fuel tank not operating correctly. During fill-up, the gas tank overflows onto the ground every time. I have seen many others complain about this issue in online forums. With gas always spilling over, I would assume that this is a very hazardous situation.
First - my vehicle is under recall and has been for 6 months and Jeep does not have parts available - under rear end crash a fire can happen from gas tank - Jeep supposed to put a hitch on vehicle however does not have the parts. They cannot give me a date of when those parts might be available. Secondly, my gas tank spills over whenever it is filled at gas station. . . . . I was told there was a valve problem that would mean a gas tank replacement at my own cost. This is what I was told in 1-11-2012.
Gas spills out of the tank when you allow it to use out shut-off of the gas pump. We paid $1885. 82 for a new gas tank. Now our 2nd 2006 Liberty is doing the same thing.
~tl the contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. While pumping fuel into the tank's filler neck, the fuel leaked out without warning. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable.
Everytime I get my gas tank filled on my Jeep Liberty it spills over onto the vehicle and the ground and makes my car smell of gas for a couple of days after, this first occurred while I was at a full service gas station I heard the pump stop followed by gas pooring out and the service attendant yelled, Jeep must be full! naturally I told the gas attendent he overfilled my tank and his response was, no its just a Jeep thing, at first I didnt believe him but then the next time a filled it at another gas station the same thing happened (full service as well) I then filled the tank myself the following time and it happend to me as well! naturally I dont fill my tank anymore! I have two young children and now I am hearing about all these recalls on suspension and gas tanks exploding it rear ended! I think it is time for Chrysler to step up and recall these death traps! I like my Jeep, the way it drives and the 4x4 feature but this is just to risky to keep these vehicles on the road, how many people need to get hurt or killed because they dont want to dish out the money for the recall. They probably wouldnt want their kids in a vehicle like that, so why should ours?!!.
Every time I fill up my gas tank it overflows before the nozzle shuts off. This has happened routinely at multiple gas stations. I have stopped trying to completely fill up my tank but if someone else fills my tank and does their math wrong the gas starts spilling out onto them and the ground. I have taken it to a local dealer about the issue and they wanted to replace my entire tank and I would have to pay over $1,000 for them to do so, even though its a known problem in other Jeep models. This is a safety hazard and has the potential to do great harm to someone. I have not been in any accidents which shows that's its a structural/component issue and not that it somehow got knocked out of wack.
When pumping gas, it does not automatically shut off, and the gas overflows. I had it looked at, and they said the entire gas tank would need to be replaced.
The gas tank shoots a large quantity of fuel out each time when refueling, which covers the rear quarter panel of the vehicle in gasoline as well as the person pumping. This occurs consistently, each time the vehicle is filled regardless of factors such as pump speed, temperature, depth or position of the nozzle. It is very difficult to time fueling so that the tank is not full so this does not occur. This is a safety hard due to the inability of the gas tank to hold the gasoline, which would be dangerous in the event of even a minor accident. It is also hazardous for the vehicle and individual to be covered in a highly flammable substance such as gasoline in the event of an accident. Many other drivers of this model also say this happens continually, that it is a consistent defect among others across these models and Chrysler dealerships refuse to fix the issue.
I first bought the Jeep in 2008 (used). Everythine I went to fill the tank, about 1 cup of gas would spill out when it was full. I got used to this but now the service light pops on and the gascap waring appears in the odometer window. Spoke to my local mechanic who said that it would cost about $1200 to get it replaced at my own expense. The other isse is that I had to replace three (3) regulators for my rear windows (2 on the driver side and one on the passenger side) if there have been over 300+ complaints about this, why hasn't Chrysler recall the vehicle to take care of these problems.
Fuel tank overflows every time you fill up. Only way of preventing is to never to fill the gas tankc.
