1 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2021

On 17 February, with my foot on the brake, I placed my car into reverse to back into an available parking spot and the engine revved up on its own and shot the car backward at top speed hitting and toppling a san diego light post and stopping when it hit a tree. No one was injured thank goodness. I found on line that this had happened at least 31 times with a similar Jeep Liberty.

2 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2021

I'm speeding up as I'm passing a truck on 395, signaling with left blinker. Start speed as beginning to pass is approx. 55 mph. I signal right as I pull back in the south bound lane, take my foot off the gas pedal as I notice I'm driving 80 mph. The gas pedal is stuck and the car is going 80 mph on its own. I step on the brake carefully but its rock hard and doesn't move at all. At this point the car is stuck at 80 mph. I try to brake again but the same - brake pedal is stuck, doesn't move at all and is rock hard. Road conditions are good so I'm in a "controlled panic", and try the brake one more time. This time the brakes engage and I get the car down to 65 mph. I don't want to burn the brakes so I release the brake and immediately the car speeds up on its own to 80 mph. I repeat. Slow to 65 mph, step off the brake and again the car immediately speeds up to 80 mph. At this point my thoughts go to cruise control (which I had not activated or used on this trip). I pull the "cancel" on the cruise control, nothing. I try again and look at the dashboard where the cruise control light is "off", indicating cruise control is not on. I turn the cruise control on and pull the "cancel" again and brake. This time the car comes out of it, and I turn the cruise control off again. Since the cruise control was not even on to begin with, I don't know if that's what actually made the car unfreeze. I was lucky I was on a straight stretch of road with no traffic in front of me. Since I was passing a truck I'm not 100% sure if I sped up to 80 mph or if the car suddenly did that on its own. I do believe the car did that, as there was no reason to get up to that speed to pass safely.

3 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2021

There is a grinding noice coming from either the transfer case or the dove shaft, either was it is loud and causes lights on the dash to come on and stay illuminated the lights are as follows: abs, traction control, esp bas, and service 4wd.

4 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2020

I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty with a skyslider that recently broke. No one can repair or find parts to repair this. At high speeds the top can lift off of the vehicle and flap in the wind. It leaks water because it no longer seals. It poses a danger to myself and others when it catches wind becomes loose and lifts off of the Jeep. Its a distractions because it doesnt work correctly and period flappings cause me to look away from the road. I am currently use using pieces of metal to just keep in closed. The online community is asking for a recall and thinks this poses a danger to other drivers.

5 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2020

The vehicle starts good no problems during the fist start of the engine on the day, my work is a follows I make several stops during the day with an approximated 30 min in between, later during the day vehicle stalls, several lights on dash board flush and move, I have to make serval attempts to start the engine vehicle continue to stalls, at this pints the vehicle has staid several occasions at the dealer and different mechanic per the dealer they dint now why the vehicle is doing this , per mechanic starter, and alternator good. So far I had replace the battery, computer and pay for multiple inspections, this is frustrating, I also noticed online re search multiple Jeep owners have the same complaint, any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thank you .

6 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2020

The sky slider does not close properly which is causing water damage air leaks thru the whole thing and I live in cold mn so the winter its freezing also worried cuz it sounds like its going to blow off when driving above 20 mile a hour.

7 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2020

Sky slider is broke and nobody has the parts to fix it. It leaks water and doesn't close all the way so the noise is awful. Only fix it to screw it shut or replace with hard roof. We need replacement parts ASAP.

8 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2020

The sky slider is known to leak, stop working, and is known to detach from vehicles while traveling. Currently with mine it has stopped working, it leaks bad, and the parts that keep it secured have broken off causing wind to rush inside from both sides in the front.

9 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2020

2008 Jeep Liberty. . . . The sunroof slider has almost flown off while driving at 40mph twice on city streets, it ripped off my stereo antenna and luckily it didnt fly off . . . I've read about other 2008 Jeep Liberty owners having this same problem. Chrysler is doing nothing about it!!!! I guess it's safe to assume that when the sunroof does fly off, kills somebody or maybe several people, maybe, Chrysler will do something about this. What's this world coming too?.

10 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

Heating issue. I know I am not the only Jeep owner that has had this problem. . . It seems to be very common with no real "fix". The heat will stop working on the drivers side but continue to work on the passengers side. I have changed the actuator doors and flushed the heater core as per mechanics specifications and not even a year later we are back to the heater core again with the same issue. Another Jeep with the same issue at the mechanics said he has the same problem and the dealer did all the above and he still has issues. Very expensive problems to constantly be having with a Jeep only to not solve the issue.

11 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 11/16/2018

I have several different issues with my 08 Jeep Liberty. The locks randomly lock and unlock. When I use the lock button on the transmitter, it'll unlock the doors sometimes right after or at some point when parked. The headlights randomly come on and go off when parked. The traction control light comes on intermittently while driving. The traction control system also randomly activates on dry pavement and even throws the front end out of alignment because it will brake one wheel. I've almost had several accidents because of this engaging. Also, when the traction/stability control engages there's a noise from the brake system followed by smoke at whatever wheel it's trying to brake. I took it into dealer and they replaced my front brakes and rotors and that hasn't fixed the problem. Now they are saying I need a new draft shaft, tie rods and a couple other front end pieces. I don't believe that's where the problems are coming from. It's a scary situation driving this because I don't know if I'm going to make it where I'm going because the steering can lose control because of the traction system. Also, it's developed a major leak in the hatch area by the top plastic pieces where it rains and the back floor looks like a swimming pool after it rains. I told the dealer but they have yet to tell me if they found out why it's leaking. I also replaced the blower fan and relay for the ac thinking that it will fix an issue where the air in the vents are barely blowing. No fix. Ac is weak. The heat works best when in motion. Heat will heat up while driving and I feel like I'm being boiled alive. Have to keep on high to get any air out of the vents, however. The transmission is clunky shifting and the fluid has been changed. Power steering is difficult to turn.

12 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2018

Jeep Liberty sky slider leaks. There are many complaints about this problem and Jeep has not resolved. Water runs inside the vehicle, has impacted the electrical components in the roof top and is a hazard to driver and passengers since we do not know what will happen day to day. This was clearly a poor design choice and Jeep should repair and replace every single cloth rooftop that has been compromised. The cost is prohibitive and will likely fail again due to the design.

13 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2018

The security horn will go off for no reason and if you place the key in the ignition that wont stop it. I have read several reviews and other have had this problem. It cost me $380. 00 to get a new key fob and the reset the computer system.

14 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2018

The sky slider roof of the trail rated 2008 Jeep Liberty is not functioning properly causing water to come into the vehicle and staining the interior. It also has wind hitting it enough to push back and eventually fall off going on the highway. This is a hazard for everyone on the road.

15 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

The airbag clock spring is needed to be replaced, it has to where all the lights come on the dash board and the part is only factory made at an outrageous price.

16 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2018

Skyslider roof, stopped working many times between 2008 and 2018. This makes for a situation where the roof can open when driving. This has happened when moving and when stationary. I have never tried to open the roof when the car is moving. I have been waiting for motorworld in wilkes barre PA to fix the issue for over a year with no success.

17 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2018

Skyslider - the sky slider rear drive assembly is broken. I am not the only one with this problem, I know many others that are having to deal with this. Even going over 20 mph it starts flapping in the wind. Also it lets water in, mostly when it rains. Come on fix this. I have to tarp my car every day just so the water doesn't get in and get mold.

18 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

Driving on NJ turnpike horn starts blaring, wipers start going and the wiper fluid is spraying non stop! had to pull over until it stopped no the first time this has happened.

19 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2018

The ac switch is not working properly and I was advised that your company had a recall to have the computer updated to fix this problem.

20 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 01/24/2018

In a rain when there was some wind, the driver and passenger floors collected 3+ inches of water. It was parked. The drains are near wires, which is unsafe. This was the limited version. . . . . So far I found that chrylser is fixing 07-08 wranglers with this problem.

21 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

The skyslider roof is unhinged, it flips open when driving as low as 25mph. The roof does not close properly. It had been replaced by the first owner. Bugs and water come into the vehicle. It is currently being held down with 2x4s and bungee cords.

22 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2017

Various electrical systems would spontaneously turn on while driving or parked. My wipers (front and back) would turn on full speed, my horn would blast, lights would dim. Even when I turn the car off, these systems stay on. When I open the drivers door, the wipers would occasionally move 1-2 inches.

23 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2016

Heater stopped working and passenger side floor is soaked.

24 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2016

Intermittent problem. When starting car, wipers come on and turn signals fail to work. The only way to get wipers to stop is to pull the fuse. Turn signals remain inoperable. This problem has been ongoing for over 2 years. Have taken vehicle to dealer multiple times. Dealer claims they cannot locate a problem; however, there clearly is a problem. Do not feel safe driving car with wipers going and no turn signals. We have also had issues with interior lights remaining on. Very distracting to driver at night. Again, took vehicle to dealer and they cannot find a problem. Please help issue occurs while vehicle is stationary and in motion. We drive city and highway streets.

25 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2016

Started car, stopped at light, made a turn. Horn started blaring, front and rear wipers went on with spray in rear, dashboard lights went crazy. Pulled into "grease monkey" put it in park, wouldn't turn off, took out key, still running. Grease monkey employee removed fuse to stop horn, but everything else was still going, even after disconnecting battery. After about 15 minutes (while waiting for aaa), engine starting smoking. Not sure what he did, but employee finally got it to turn off. There was also something dripping under the car. Aaa towed it to the closest aaa-approved mechanic. Diagnosis: totally integrated power module needs to be replaced to the tune o $1400. 00. I feel this definitely created an unsafe condition, especially if it would have happened on the highway where I would not have had immediate help. Who knows what could have happened -- an accident, a fire?? since it is a holiday weekend and the part had to be ordered, my car won't be worked on until Tuesday, 9/6; therefore, I do not have an invoice yet.

26 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2016

Retractable roof broke while driving and almost flew off into traffic. Luckily there was a passenger who was able to grap it before it flew off into traffic. A very bad safety issue, could have caused an accident. To have it repaired it is $600. We did not have it repaired. They were able to close the roof and disconnect it. I called Jeep and they were not very nice and are not willing to help pay for the repairs. This is a safety issue and should have been recalled. If you look it up on the internet many people have had this problem. Why wasn't it recalled.

27 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2016

Three years ago, I had the sky slider on the Jeep replaced completely. On Tuesday, June 14, 2016, I opened the slider up and it would not close. I took it to back to the business that replaced the sky slider in 2013, paymer & phillips, and they told me that they have replaced several 2008 Jeep Liberty sky sliders. They showed me the plastic piece which was broken which is the reason why the sky slider which is a convertible top, would not close. The first time, the repairs cost $3362. 81. Today I was told the repair cost would be $2768. It was suggested that I contact Chrysler and report this incident and ask them to absorb the cost. I have yet to hear from a case manager as of today.

28 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2016

I was driving on the freeway and my skyline sunroof flew back.

29 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2016

The skyslider roof fails to close. I have owned the car since buying it new in 2008. The skyslider was replaced in June of 2013 after failing to close and making driving unsafe due to the flapping of the cloth roof at 45 mph or higher. Roof has broken again as of may 2016 with the same issue after only being opened 5 times. This type of roof is going to cause an accident. At any time the cables or plastic frame can snap causing the roof to peel back. I was afraid the roof was going to completely dis-attach and hit the car behind me.

30 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/26/2016

The soft top on this Jeep comes off when driving down the road. If you look on line several people have had the same problem.

31 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2015

My heat shield came loose and detached at 110000 miles while driving. It was obviously resting on moving parts under my vehicle. It made a klattering rattle as the vehicle slowed to a stop where I could check out the problem. The heat shield readily came out when the rear passenger tire was removed to provide access to the part on the side of the road.

32 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2015

Was informed by my dealership that the crossmember that goes between the frame and holds the engine and transmission in place was rusted out and needed replacing. Was also informed that there was a recall for the part on 2007 Jeep patriots, but not on 2008 and I'd have to pay for the repair. Was told not to drive the vehicle until repaired as it was a serious safety issue!!. What choice did I have? I paid. . . Through the nose for something that would have been covered had I bought a 2007 model. I was given this website to make a complaint. Additionally, have had issues with the door locks not working (pop up on their own while driving or parked) and automatic windows not always working (had to have have some "cylinder" for the electronics in the driver's side door replaced. ) the "check engine" light still shows 'on' because a part that's on "backorder" in the back by where the gas is filled is rusted and needs replacing.

33 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 04/15/2015

I have only owned the 08 Liberty for 3 months now and I started seeing little spots near the curtain airbags on both driver and passenger side, but when it rains a lot or I get my car washed the spots get bigger and now it's coming down from the map light which to me is very dangerous and distracting while not to mention its leaking on the cars components as well. It also has started making some lights not work. I'm not sure if I'm right but I do see spots behind the windshield so I don't know if it's the windshield but it's coming in much father now.

34 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 03/09/2015

There was a noise, like grinding when I went to back out of my drive way, from the rear of the Jeep and when taken to the dealership the tech found the rear floor heat shield had come losse and was rubbing on the driveshaft. The dealership charged me $474. 20 to fix it on 3/9/2015. I just found out today, 11/2/2015, there was a recall on other 2008 Jeep Libertys (my VIN number wasn't part of the recall) but it sounds like the issue should have been! why wasn't my Jeep part of the recall? are there other owners like me, who had the same issue but weren't considered part of the recall? I think we should be! please advise.

35 Equipment problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2014

Sunslider roof - broken frame and motor at approximately 50,000 miles. Water damage. Told not covered by warranty. Repair estimated over $3000. Gap in roof when driving at any speed over 30 mph. Research indicates known issue by Jeep with subjective decisions whether or not to cover repair and prior lawsuit.
