general problems of the 2008 Jeep Liberty - part 2

Slider roof creates loud wind noise when traveling 45-60 mph. Also roof does not close properly leaving gap on right hand side allowing water to leak into interior.

Sunroof leaking badly noticed a small amount earlier but lately has gotten worse. Headliner is stained from the leak. Drivers floorboard is wey from leak.

When I first bought this vehicle from a local used dealer, I never anticipated the problems I would be faced with. I have always dreamed of owning a Jeep and now, I'm ready to take it to the dump. I purchased this keep on the above date and was told that the sky slider does not work. The dealer created a contract that they would have it fixed. 2 months later, they finally find someone in the area who knows how to fix this problem. We take it in, and find that the whole roof had to be replaced. The dealership finally agreed to pay for it after a month of me being out a vehicle. This repair cost the dealership an upwards of $4,500. 00 and I am still experiencing wind noise. If I drive on the highway and a semi goes by, the sky slider lifts up as if it's going to fly off. I will never open the sky slider for fear that it will need to be fixed again (or get stuck open). I have seen many people presenting this same issue on forums with nothing being solved. Please, it's time Chrysler owns up to this faulty design and helps people out! I am so scared that this roof is going to fly off while I'm driving on the freeway and cause an accident. No one should ever have to feel afraid to drive a car they pay for!.

The sky slider roof stopped in the open position and would not close. The cost to fix is $4,000. Due to it being stuck open there is now water damage all around the top of the Jeep roof.

Gas tank overflows at fill up. Always at costco and many other stations. Attendants have attempted to pump for me and had same results stating that it is a common problem for Jeeps.

While car was in drive and traveling at 40 mph, the key in the ignition disengaged from the 'on' position to the accessory position and shut off the engine, power steering, etc. Driver had to coast the dead vehicle to the side of the road to avoid being hit from behind.

2008 Jeep Liberty le purchased 9/2008. Had to bring car back within the first week of purchase to have the strip at the front replaced. Since then the roof has always been noisy and lifts slightly at the front while moving. Recently, it has stopped closing properly. It will not close all the way and is buckled in several places leaving gaps in the roof for wind and rain to come in.

The skyway slider will not close fully, the road noise is so loud it is difficult to concentrate on driving on the highway.

My air compressor started making a terrible screeching noise. The mechanic stated that the air compressor in Jeeps do not last after a couple of years. How has this not been rectified? also, my traction and abs lights come on and cause me to be unable to stop when I press the brakes. This is not from normal wear and tear of driving a car.

Replaced driver side door key lock, had to remove inner door pnl, (disconnected battery), after job was complete and started for first time, noticed that the (digital) dashboard odometer instead of showing mileage indicated the word "error". Investigated on internet and discovered many other people are having same "error" message appear on odometer after disconnecting battery.

Recently I received the safety recall n10 / NHTSA 13v-121 for my Jeep Liberty 2008. In June 20, I made contact with the flagship service department, in bayamon puerto rico at 787-620-5877. Some female verified my vehicle information and once confirmed made an appointment for next day ( June 21 ). At date of June 21, 9:30am once in the service department, mr Jan carlos febo told me that was a mistake, a error, and said "your vehicle hasn't problems or recalls. " my doubt with at some observations: their question: "where did you buy the vehicle". ( I bought the vehicle at rocky motors, a small dealer) and the playview of a long row of Jeep wrangler to be received for repairs by recalls. I felt displaced, and have my doubts about the information received. Please confirm and take notice, with this establishment, to be loyal to the safety related. At this date, I took the time, I have chance to get a vehicle to use during the vehicle recall repairs. Later in August, is late, there will be no chance, I work at 20 miles from home. If my vehicle need it, I need to repair now, or the service department should provide transportation.

My roof is a soft top . Some how it shorted out. Burning up my battery, my roof will not close how ever it opened own its on. My outlet never have worked. So I have leeks left and right front inside.

I purchased my Jeep from a private owner back in 10/2013. I thought I wrote a complaint out but I can not find it here. I have a 2008 Jeep Liberty with a roll back top. While driving with my grandson the top blew back and broke the clip broke when it flew back. . To fix, it will cost 2,000. 00 to 2,500 dollars . It was out of warranty and Chrysler would not help me in any way I called Chrysler direct and a local dealer. I did not think it was the right thing to do being that I do not believe a roof she be able to blow off your vehicle. I could have been on a highway driving 50 or 60 miles per hour and that roof could have blown totally off my Jeep and really caused a problem. Extremely dangerous. As far as look at it this it is a huge defect. . I have driven many convertible cars and never had the roof blow back. Plus the noise factor is just awful. You cannot even hear someone speak with the top closed. The wind is just awful there design on this roof is dangerous and just plain awful!!.

Fuel burps out after gas pump clicks off.

I received a recall letter from Chrysler regarding a recall stating that "the transfer case heat shield may drop down and rub on the drive shaft, weakening it and potentially causing the drive shaft to break. ". Chrysler's recall letter fails to mention what is outlined in the nthsa letter: the first potential cause of an accident resulting from the above referenced defect: "if the drive shaft breaks, a section of it can strike the transfer case tunnel with enough force that the airbag computer will believe the vehicle is in a crash and thus deploy the airbags. ". I lodged a complaint with Chrysler that they are unwilling to provide 2008 Jeep Liberty owners with alternative transportation while they "fix" the "problem". Customers need to be informed about all the possible consequences and Chrysler only mentions this the transfer case heat shield may drop down and rub on the drive shaft, weakening it and potentially causing the drive shaft to break. In addition, I spoke to chryslers "recall help desk" about whether I should be driving my Jeep or not and I was told "you've been driving your car for 53,000 miles and nothings happened so probably nothing will happen but let us know if it does. " he said that the "head honchos" were meeting about the fix as we spoke. I asked him to let the ceo know that if they really cared for customer safety they would get us rental cars and that I would take the cheapest rental on the market. Would the ceo of Chrysler continue to drive a 2008 Jeep Liberty until the fix?? would he have his son, daughter or wife drive one in its present condition? . Nthsa in the spirit of transparency, where is the information that tells 2008 Jeep owners how many and at what mileage accidents have occurred. I am unable to easily access this information on the NHTSA web site and am an intermediate computer user.

Takata recall sunroof has leaked since I owned it in '10 cleaned drains n it hasn't helped. . . My windows fog up due to moisture in car n can't keep them clear! heater has tore up from water leakage. . . . Water in wiring has messed my computer system up. . . . Took it to mechanic n they fave me 3pgs of codes it was showing. . . N refused to work on it! concerned about mold mildew in vehicle from moisture! heat shield fail off 6 yrs ago while driving down 4lane! my 4wheel drive has gone out. . . . I have several lites on my dash check engine abs 4wheel drive. . . Traction control. . . . I can't rem. The others and my tire sensor went out rite after I bought it that let's u know u r air is low! my big concern is the water. . . . I've gotten in my Jeep after a storm n there b 3in of water in my floor board! I'm concerned my cabin is goin to collapse!and the black mold with cause me harm! I spent all my saved money n paid cash for my Jeep when I bought it and can't afford another vehichle. . . . I used my divorce settlement money to provide me what I thought was a reliable vehicle and I've got screwed! I can't afford another one! when driving the water will suddenly fall from cabin on u and drowned u scaring u shocking u. . . . . This has nearly caused me to wreck! cuz u don't expect it to happen! wipers come on without turning them on. . . . There's so much I can't think of it all.

Sky slider retractable roof has excessive noise and will not seat correct. Fear of if coming off while in motion.

Slider top ends came unglued. Took to mall of georgia Jeep for repair. After repair the top while going down highway slightly opened up. Took back to dealer he said out of warranty. I told them that you took my top off for repair and you did not get the tension cable correctly tightened. Well several months went by then the cable that tightens the top up broke. I have seen so many complaints with the top there should be a recall on these.
