2 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/17/2012

Sept. 8, 2012 I took my Jeep to the dealership I purchased it from, and have had all maintenance work completed by, for routine factory maintenance and an oil change. I told them I was leaving for an extended road trip and requested they look everything over to see if there might be any safety issues. On sept. 17, 2012 while traveling on the interstate, I accelerated and the accelerator pedal stuck. I do not have cruise control and it was not related to the floor mats. This happened several times while on the road trip. I returned home sept. 19, 2012 and for the next 2 weeks the accelerator stuck intermittently, with no common underlying cause. Oct. 2, 2012, while backing into a parking space the accelerator stuck at a high rpm and I nearly crashed. I contacted the same dealership, who originally wanted to look at the vehicle almost a week later even after I explained how serious the issue was. I managed to talk them into looking at the Jeep on oct 3, 2012 and they were able to duplicate the accelerator sticking on their first try. They contacted me later in the day to tell me it would be $385 to fix and was not covered under my extended manufacturer warranty. I contacted the warranty administrators who also said it was not covered as the accelerator is considered "an accessory". I tried to get some assistance through Chrysler customer care assistance to no avail. Now the issue has become serious enough that I'm afraid to drive the vehicle. In other words, it is worse now than before. I'd like to receive some assistance with this issue and/or find out what truly constitutes a vehicle accessory, as the accelerator pedal seems to be an integral part of the vehicle's operation, not an "accessory" like a stereo or luggage rack. Help?.

3 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/16/2012

I purchased a 2007 Jeep Liberty limited edition 4x4 on may 26, 2012 from local dealership. On September 16, 2012, I was shocked to find rear passenger window had slid half way down through the night. Discovered from internet research that plastic parts are faulty and known by Chrysler for years. Yet no recall made to correct this serious problem. Replacing with same plastic parts is no solution. My concern is safety and security. Why have an alarm system when any or all four windows are prone to failure? steel replacement parts can be purchased online independently, but as a consumer I feel Chrysler should be obligated to correct this at no cost. This requires immediate attention. Why wait for the possibility of a child falling out of a moving vehicle. There is no warning.

4 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2008 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

Sky slider roof which is an option for this vehicle has broken loose from the vehicle. This is the third failure of this convertible top feature. The top slides backward electrically on metal tracks and is pulled backwards using cables. The first failure of the roof was in 2010. At that time the roof would not close leaving it open and dangerous while driving. The vehicle was under mfg warranty and the entire cable and track was replaced. The second identical problem occurred in February 2011 resulting in repair and replacement of cables and track. Most recently, the cables have again broken leaving the top unable to close, only this time, the components have broken and while driving the top came loose and flew open causing more damage to the vehicle. The dealership where this vehicle has been repaired for this identical issue is aware of the ongoing problems with the sky slider. Chrysler/Jeep has been notified and a case has been opened, however, despite the problem being well-known they are not providing repair.

5 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/31/2012

My key will not turn in the ignition of the 2003 Jeep Liberty. The steering column was not locked and I tried for about 20 minutes to jiggle/turn the wheel, jiggle the automatic transmission shifter, etc. The key was inserted fully because electrical came on to alert me that the key was in the ignition (when I opened the driver door the warning beeps came on to signify key still in ignition). The ignition simply would not turn. I had to have my car towed to a mechanic and have since learned from online research that this is a very common problem with Jeep Liberty's and many Chrysler products. The solutions seem to be patchwork workarounds that people have come up with independent of Chrysler's help.

6 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

The rear passenger side window regulator failed again. Driving and the back window dropped without notice. This is a costly repair and its an ongoing problem . You need to make the mfg step up and make a permanent solution for a ongoing problem. I see you have had several complaints on the same issue. This is a safety issue as well.

8 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 12/07/2011

The rear window regulators in the 06 Jeep Liberty are failing at an alarming rate. Ours has had both break once and the drives side twice now. I have contacted Jeep with my frustrations with zero help. There are countless claims online, with friends, acquaintances, and even my local Jeep dealer (easton, MD) that all support that this is not an isolated issue. I have again been told that there will be no recall because this is not a safety issue. I disagree strongly!! when driving down the highway and the window regulator fails, the window drops. What happens if there is something leaning up against the window, a child in that seat, a pet? the risks are huge to the safety of the vehicle occupants and others on the road should something fall out. The other thing that is very alarming is that everything is beginning to present itself at a similar time for the vehicles showing signs of the problem. Jeep claims it is due to plastic parts failing due to not enough use?? this makes no sense. To support my claim that this is an issue affecting a large number of people and clearly not an isolated issue, please see the web sites listed below. . Read more...

9 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/27/2011

Shift cable failed when we rolled to a stop. Went to put the Jeep in park. Would not go. Would not go into reverse. Managed to force it into neutral but that was it. Had to manually push the Jeep backwards to try to turn it around to take it to a shop. Key would not come out as a result making battery go dead. Very unsafe because if that shifter cable broke at a higher speed it may or may not have messed the transmission up or allowed us to shut the vehicle off. For instance it it were in drive and could not be shut off what would we do? found out from local Jeep dealers that they have to replace several of these a week. My personal mechanic was unable to secure one for several days because they were sold out all in our region. Suspect this is a big problem. No word from Jeep on this! mechanic was stunned how poorly made the cable is and was surprised it lasted as long as it did!.

10 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/18/2011

This is my 5th time in 4 years! having to bring into the dealer to have the window fixed. Malfunctions and break down of electric window motors or regulators.

11 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

I was driving my 2007 Jeep Liberty with me 4 yr old son in rear saftey seat when the rear passanger window slammed open. It could have shattered into the vehical where m son was siting. Thank god it did not, this issue I see is a problem with these Jeep Liberty's.

12 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/27/2011

My car was parked, when the regulator for the back passengerã‚s side window broke causing the window to fall into the door. This is at least the 14 time one of the regulators has broken in my Liberty. This time I was lucky because my car was parked. There have been several times it has broken while driving which is a safety concern for my passengers. Jeep has not yet recalled the part even though they have acknowledged that the part is faulty.

13 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/20/2011

Rear driver's side window fell into door. Could not get it back up. Window is now held in by zip ties. 6/23/2012 front passenger power door lock stopped working. Purchased vehicle used in June 2007, rear passenger power door lock not working at that time. Occaisionally vehicle will stall and restart while driving.

14 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/12/2011

Window regulator broke costing me $210. Chysler refused to reemburse me because my vehicle was made in December 2005 prior to the extention of the warranty for the same problem effective March 2006. Also, I am the third owner. This is a known factory defect and is not a wear issue or a maintenance problem. This should not happen period.

15 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 10/06/2011

I recently noticed abnormal tire wear (insides balding) on my front tires so I replaced the tires and took the vehicle for an alignment. Before the repair shop would do the alignment on the vehicle the checked the components to be sure that the was no other problems. They found that the lower and upper ball joints were bad on both sides and stated that it was unsafe to drive. I imediately contacted my local Jeep dealer to inquire about the repairs and to check for recalls. They advised me that there was a recall on the lower ball joints, I asked if the lower ball joints could cause the upper ball joints to go bad and they said that it could. I asked if that would be covered under the recall as well since they could have caused the upper ball joints to become bad, and I was told no that it would only cover the lower ball joints. So my complaint is that the recall should cover the upper ball joints as well because even after the repairs on the lower ball joints the vehicle is still unsafe to drive if the recalled part caused the problem to the upper portion as well.

16 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/29/2011

It was light to medium rain while stopped at a red light where traffic took off and had to stop soon after. As soon as I hit my brakes the abs kicked in increasing the stopping distance of my Jeep causing me to rear end another vehicle. At the same time the abs brake light, traction control brake light and stability control lights all came on at the same time and remained lit. I called the dealership the next day and was told this wasn't a serious problem and to bring it on Monday (I called Friday morning). The first time the dealer corrected the problem by replacing the brake switch and the tail light lamp switch. As I was leaving the dealership, less than a mile away, all of the lights came back on. They corrected it again, so I picked it up and it happened again two days later. In the mean time whenever it is a medium rain or above or it has been raining for an extended period of time the abs brakes prematurely activate. The Jeep was inspected by Chrysler engineers who state it does not have any problems, and will not fix the damage to the vehicle.

18 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/19/2011

Power window regulator failure. This is the fourth time in 2 years. This is a major problem that is very expensive to fix. The regulator fails when the car is not even in motion. The window will fail to roll up or down when the regulator fails and it makes a grinding sound when you try to roll the window up or down. This is obviously a huge problem judging by how many complaints are listed on this website. Jeep needs to recall the power window regulators in these vehicles and take care of their customers. Who has three hundred dollars to fix an ongoing problem two times or more a year. I am a very upset customer and I think something needs to be done about this problem.

19 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/13/2011

First the drivers rear regulator failed, causing the window to fall and break inside the door. I replaced both the window and the regulator. Six months later the passenger rear regulator failed and the window dropped in the door. This time it did not break the glass. Just a month after the warenty on the driver rear expired, it failed again. Now I have no working back windows. The service manager at the local dealership ackowledged this as an issue but stated there is no recall. He recomended that I take it up whith Chrysler. They claim it the problem exists but not with this year. They told me because I did not buy it new nor use the dealership for my service they would not help. With the glass breaking this is more than an inconvenience, it is dangerous. Chrysler knows this is an issue and is ripping people off by charging them over $400. 00 to replace these with parts that will fail again.

20 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/12/2011

I cannot control my vehicle while driving on the highway. The steering column seems to be very loose and the Jeep shimmies. It seems that when you reach maybe 50 mph the back end seems to pull to the right while you are trying to drive straight. Causing alot of shaking and pulling going on. A very unsteady ride. And noticed when trying to stop at the fast pace the front end wants to go to the left while the back end wants to go to the right. Very scary driving conditions. Took it to the Jeep dealer last year and they told me that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle, that Jeeps have alot of play in the steering. But when I noticed that when I go over a bump a loud clanking noise happens I decided to look on line to see what the problem could be and I saw that there was a recall on ball joints, so I thought it could be that. I took it into the dealership yesterday and they told me that there was something wrong, described exactly what I was dealing with and told me that they would find out. To my dismay, they said it was my rear lowe control arms that needed to be replaced and would charge me over 600 to fix. Now finding out that others are having the same issue and some have resulted in a wreck. Something needs to be done regarding this issue before someone loses their lives.

21 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 09/03/2011

My 2006 Jeep Liberty's back driver's side window regulator is broken. The window will not stay up and falls down part way when you are driving and needs to be pulled back up manually when you stop. When you press the button for the window, you can hear the window motor running, but the window will not go up. This happened when the vehicle had just over 48,000 miles. This seems to be a very common complaint for the 2006 Jeep Liberty and an extended warranty has been issued by Chrysler to repair 2006 Jeep Libertys with this problem which were manufactured after March, 2006. My Jeep was manufactured in Feb. Of 2006. This window regulator warranty needs to be extended to all 2006 Jeep Libertys. According to comments on the internet, this repair can be $400 and up.

22 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2002 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/30/2011

23 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/25/2011

I purchased my 2006 Jeep Liberty in may 2011, however I have to windows that just stopped working. The windows just fail completely down without any warning one while I was driving which could have schatter and hurt my passenger. I contacted the chysler Jeep manufacture comppliant line but they were no help. I was given a phone number to a dealership and was told I have warranty on the windows that only cover the list plate (if that's the problem) for my back window only. The problem after researching it this morning on the internet is the regulators in the windows which are very costly to repair approx. $260 per window. In this economy I can't afford to repair this and I should not have to because there is some kind of mal-function with the parts inside of the windows. They need to recall these vehicles because owner of them will spend money repairing the same proble at least 3 to 4 times in one year.

24 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/24/2011

The rear automatic windows on my 2006 Jeep Liberty fall down into the door panel and cannot be raised with the regulator. This happened to me while I was driving and forced me to drive on the highway with lowered windows. I have had the rear windows repaired for the same problem multiple times, and they continue to break, at times that are unsafe. It also prevents me from properly securing the vehicle from theft until I can get to the dealer and they can "repair" it with the same defective part over and over again.

25 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

The window regulator for the rear driver's side window has failed, leading to the window unable to roll up and loss of window control that leads the window to fall inside the door and glass to shatter.

26 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/15/2011

My horn will not stop blowing, it woke everyone in my neighborhood up at 10pm last night, and the only way it would stop was to disconnect the battery. Water seems to be leaking into my fuse box. I have taken the car to a mechanic and will see how it turns out.

27 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 08/07/2011

Rear driver side power window dropped full open unexpectedly on 2006 Jeep Liberty; original owner of vehicle with 71,00+/- miles. Repaired at dealer(costly). From internet search appears this problem is systemic to 2006-2007 models and repeat failure not unheard of. . . Very scary at 65mph.

28 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/31/2011

It is a well documented fact regarding the continued negligence of Chrysler/Jeep regarding the defective window regulators. The window regulator controls the electric window and keeps it in place. With no warning the defective part frequently breaks causing the window to fall into the door-the window cannot be rolled up. The first time this happened 11/09 I had two small children in the back seat during a thunderstorm. I was traveling on the freeway. Suddenly the window dropped into the rear drivers door. The children started screaming as rain came into the vehicle and I had to pull over onto the side of the freeway. I had to call for help and a family member drove 60 miles to pick up the children as we sat on the side of the road with pouring rain coming into the vehicle. After investigating the matter and spending 357. 00 to get it fixed,I realised this has become a chronic safety issue for this vehicle. Jeep fixes the window with the same faulty part, they reimbursed me for most of the cost however 21 months later. . . . . The same thing all over again and this time they don't want to cover it and of course they still fix it with the same dangerous part. It now costs 400-500$ to fix it. Thousands of Jeep Liberty owners have dealt with this problem over and over. I don't understand how Chrysler/Jeep can get away with this blatant safety issue.

29 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2005 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/31/2011

The left rear window just fell down inside the door when I was driving. We took the door apart (so we could close the window) and found out it was a faulty window regulator. I called everywhere for a part and the only one that has it is a dealer at a hefty price. I was told that it is a commom problem and the dealer checked my VIN # and I was told mine was not on a recall list. On my many phone calls to various parts supplier stores, I was told that the part is junk and it would probably happen again. The dealer says there is a one year warrantly on the part. It just seems to me that it is a no win situation, for the consumer anyway. Total cost of repair, parts and labor - $283. 48. Rediculous!.

30 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/29/2011

Drivers side rear window fell down while vehicle was parked.

31 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2004 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/27/2011

Failure of passenger side power window (1) while driving to work, I attempted to roll down the passenger side door window and the window just fell down inside the door. At that point, I was unable to roll up the window. (2) the window could not be operated by the power switch and therefore, I had to remove the door panel and secure the glass with a piece of wood. (3) the failure has not been corrected at this time. While researching this problem - I have found that this is a reoccurring problem across the country with Jeep Liberty's and I feel that this is a great safety problem. The glass in the window is for protection and should it fall out while driving at a normal rate of speed - this could potentially cause damage to the driver, passengers or other cars on the highway. I feel like Chrysler corperation should bear the costs to correct this problem and not leave it up to the owners to correct this defect in the Liberty. There are pages and pages online with Liberty owners who have had this same problem. Just entering (Jeep Liberty window problems) will take you to numerous complaints about this issue. It is disheartening to still be paying on a vehicle that is like new but is falling apart. I was already involved in an accident in which the faulty ball joints just gave way. Thankfully, I was not on the interstate when this happened. Now this failure of the window is another recall I would like to see happen. It would be appreciated if you would make Chrysler corporation stand behind their products. The Jeep Liberty is not a cheap vehicle to buy but it is certainly cheaply made and it is sad to wonder what is going to happen next while driving this vehicle.

32 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2003 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/20/2011

Both rear windows have fallen into window tracks due to failure of a $. 05 piece of plastic. The dealer repair is $600 to replace window accuator with no promise that the failure will not happen again, since the exact same part that fails is the exact same part that is replaced. It is simply a disgrace that an individual can "google" this issue on Jeep Liberty's and see that this happens everyday and has happened tp thousands of owners. How can Chrysler get away with this, and not be forced to repair a faulty part that is known to fail time and time again?.

33 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2007 Jeep Liberty

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

The driver side window dropped into the door. Repairman states that the regulator on the window has went bad. Cost over $300. 00 to fix. Two months later, the back driver side fell into the door, and again the repairman states the same problem. Now the total cost to have both fix over $600. I had the passager side fixed, and had the back driver side blocked up. Do you think that after some many complaints that they would investiage these regulators and maybe have a recall on them. It's now Nov. 2011, and my driver side window is acting the same way. . . Think it might be the next one.
