Jeep Liberty owners have reported 139 problems related to wheel (under the wheel category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Jeep Liberty based on all problems reported for the Liberty.
The lower ball joint sheared off causing the wheel to fall causing the bottom of the ball joint to land on the rim. Thus cutting the rim all the way around it off and puncturing the tire. Thus causing the vehicle to slide to a stop at 50 miles an hour with a skid mark. Thus having to call for a tow truck to pick it up. Luckily no one was hurt. The vehicle was on a off ramp of a freeway to a on ramp over pass of another freeway.

The contact owns a 2002 Jeep Liberty. While making a right turn at 5 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise. It was discovered that the lower ball joint fractured and the wheel was bent at a 45 degree angle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.
The contact owned a 2003 Jeep Liberty. While driving 75 mph, the front driver side tire blew out without warning. The contact was the front passenger in the vehicle. The driver stated that the vehicle felt as if the front driver side of the vehicle struck the ground. The vehicle fishtailed and collided with the median, rolled several times, spun out, and landed on its roof. The driver side air bag deployed, but the passenger side and other air bags failed to deploy. The driver sustained two broken fingers on the left hand, contusions, left body side muscle soreness, and a concussion. The rear passenger occupant sustained a cut to the right arm and left leg and bruising. The middle rear passenger sustained minor bruising, and the driver side rear passenger sustained back injuries. All occupants required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and deemed a total loss. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. Several months ago, the vehicle was serviced per a ball joint recall and a possible control arm recall. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.

The driver side ball joint has broken 7 times in 1 year and has been replaced. Using 4 different mechanics assuming it was the mechanic. This has happened each time while driving. The last mechanic put an additional nut and has assumed to work. He also indicated that he has repaired other Jeep Liberty's with same problem in one case he welded it on, I have seen 3 others in my small town that you can see they also have a driver fender that is damaged as mine is when the ball joint breaks and tires pushes wheel fender off. This is not an isolated problem and can not believe this issue has not been addressed in a recall, it asks for a date, well the first time was spring of 2017 since then it has happened 6 additonal times.

Had 4 new goodyear wrangler sra tires installed by sam's club on 5/3/2014. Bought lifetime rotation/balance package at that time. Have tires rotated/balanced routinely. Alignment goes out each time and steering wheel also ends up out of the proper position. Alignment is completed by a specialty shop. The shop tells me I have at least one or more defective tires. Informed sam's club of issue on 4/10/2015 during the rotation/balance. Had alignment done the previous day. Sam's club denied any issue with these tires and would not follow up on it. Have learned to rotate/balance first, then do alignment. Certainly will not purchase goodyear again!.

Was going down a hill. Didn't notice a stop sign. Tried to stop but couldn't in time. Took the corner and hit a tree with my passenger front corner and the Jeep flipped on its side. Smashed my face on the steering wheel shattering my jaw due to airbags not going off and seatbelts not locking. Needed immediate surgery. They had to smash the front window to get me out of the vehicle.
I was driving home christmas morning and a few miles before I got home the lower and higher ball joints seperated from each other. I had no control of the vehicle, thankfully there was no one else on the road with me. I was headed straight on road when incident happened. Vehicle bounced many times before coming to a stop off the road. I was informed later after incident that this vehicle had a recall for what I had just described above. Vehicle was bought used from dealership and have no record or info if this recall being fixed.
My son noticed the rear drivers tire not feeling good as he traveled on I-80 outside of Lincoln, ne. He started loosing control and eventually lost control, the car rolled several times and came to rest upside down. He was still buckled in the seat. After looking over the car, the rear tires were broken off the car. The lug nuts still attached to the tire. He thinks the drivers rear tire came off first and that was what started the car out of control. The other rear tire was also off after he came to rest so he is not sure when that came off during the crash. The car is a total loss. Geico is investigating the car to see if they can determine what took place. This just happened on 12/16/2016.

I pulled out of my drive way and the and my car would not move. My ball joint broke off and my tire fell off my car. My mechanic told me the ball joint had rusted which caused it to break. He inspected the other front wheel and said it is in the same condition and is ready to break. I talked to Chrysler and they said they had a recall on this problem which was called a f-23 but my car was 23 days outside of this recall date and they would not help me. I life in florida, so why are these ball joints rusting away. This could have happened on a highway instead of my driveway. Please look into this for the safety of other Jeep owners. Bob white 239 634 2402. I will be getting the bad parts from my mechanic when the repairs are completed.
Important this is translated from spanish to english in google translator. My reason for my complaint is, to help me with the problem I have, really do not know if this merchant exists or is something ghost. I have tried to communicate with the seller and with the local dealer but it is impossible no answer, as the place is far to go, I have not yet had the opportunity to go to the local. For this reason I think I am a victim of fraud. I have also tried to communicate with them using barios phone number, but it is impossible not answer. Saturday 22 October 2016 I was cleaning the SUV when I realize that the passenger seat lacks a turnillo and safety belts of defects are removed. I quickly call the seller but not answered. That same day I informed my mechanic avia come to my house, told my SUV has a water leak and burned in the muffler, when my check mechanic tells me is not water is oil, again I contact the seller and I sent him a text message and does not answer me, my mechanic informs me, the trader can not sell tire truck with bad quality, my SUV the tire are worn, not really sap that information. Until today I call and leave a text message to the seller but he does not answer when I call the merchant I end the call. For this reason I think I am a victim of fraud. Please ask for help because now I have no car and not think it's sure I use the SUV in these conditions, another thing I want to add on the water leak, the reality is that the radiator is broken, the seller lied to me deceived me, the me I swindled. That day when I got home it was night, I when I get home check the part of the front of the SUV, the part where the engine is, the water reservoir had no water, for me that was strange and contact the seller, I told the salesman that the water reservoir had no water, the seller told me that was normal.
I have had the front lower ball joints replaced twice on my 2004 Jeep liberity. I was driving both timed it has happened costing me tow and repair costs. I feel I should have been notified about the dangerous safety recall on this vehicle. I am now after leaning that it aldo hssv12 recalls and safety issues including the gas tank andvsudpention and stability of my vehicle am afraid to evin drive it out if concern for mine and others safety. I am a 62 year old fudablrd woman and need this vehicle fixed and brought up to daftey standards. Pleadebtell me what and where to do to get issues resolved. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2006 Jeep Liberty. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle made a left turn and made an abnormal noise without warning. Once the vehicle came to a stop, the front passenger tire detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
On my 2004 Jeep Liberty I have had the lower front ball joints replace a few years back by the f23 recall. This week as I was replacing upper control arms, which come pre assembled with the ball joint, I noticed the boots for the lower ball joints were again damaged. I also noticed that there is a loud noise when going over unsmooth surface roads, etc. I am thinking this could be caused by the rear upper control arm. Now I'm not a professional mechanic, but common sense tells me that the engineering on the suspension has been compromised. I contacted Chrysler, who told me to contact a dealer, who told me they would get back to me on this problem. I also experienced multiple window regulator problems, along with recalls on the air bags system as well as gas tank protection recalls.
The Jeep was being driven by my granddaughter leaving her work at starbucks, when she tried to exit the parking lot the right front ball joint dropped out and the Jeep set down on the a-frame and stopped. Had this happened on the highway she could have been badly hurt or even killed. Chrysler has a recall on this specific problem for the 06 Jeep Liberty but insist that a recall is issued by VIN number, which does not make sense, the ball joint is a very bad design and the should recall all 2006 or later models with this condition.
Something loose and smoking under my SUV, told has to do with front end suspension , the 2 front tires shakes ,driving over railroad tracks, speed bumps etc. Causes my front to look lower down to the ground. The r r side along with back tire sensor saying preform service. My front end suspension vibrates and shake like its coming apart, along with tire sensor flashing. Driving city neighborhoods with high speed bumps causes the suspension to feel as if it coming off vehicle.
Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken for a scheduled tire rotation and the mechanic informed him that the lug nuts in three of the tires had to be cut because of severe rust. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000. Bp.
"takata recall" I had this vehicle for over a year. About two months in it started shutting off, all the lights on the dashboard lights up for no reason. Sometime when I drive the headlights shut of and the vehicle starts shaking tremendously. The vehicle occasionally stops when I am driving on the interstate or wherever. I have taken it in on numerous occasions but the dealer cannot seem to find the problem.

Lug nuts broke on the driver side front tire while driving. While driving on i95 the Jeep started making a terrible noise. I pulled off the highway and the wheel was angled. I got a tow to my mechanic and he replaced 5 wheel studs and lug nuts. Seems to be a common problem with the Liberty.
The lower ball joint broke causing the frame and wheel to separate. The frame fell onto the tire. The rim was sliced completely in half. And the brand new tire was busted. It caused us to loose control of the vehicle. The vehicle feared of the road and landed ina ditch. We had to have a tow truck pick up the vehicle. It cost us 300 dollars to have the vehicle brought home. After getting home we found out the piece that broke, the lower ball joint, was part of the Jeep recall in 2006. I called Chrysler and they did admit that part was a recall fix in 2006. We are now waiting on Chrysler to call us back to let us know what we are suppose to do next. We are without a vehicle.
While driving there is a rambling sound coming from the front of my front of my vehicle, when I press on the breaks there is a grinding noise, I have taken my vehicle to southern Chrysler Jeep of greenbrier located in chesapeake, va and they advise the unit need front upper control arms and lower ball joints. According to contacting Chrysler the manufacture I was advise the part was inital change in 2007 and the current part (lower ball joints) is currently on back order. According to the dealer/service facility they stated there is approximate 500 lower ball joints on back order, I have contacted Chrysler via web chat and they confirm part is not available. I have express my fear of driving the vehicle due to issue and ask to be compensate for a car rental in which I was decline. I am complaining due to part stock availability is un-acceptable and I fear of driving this unsafe vehicle.
Left front wheel detached from drive mechanics. Looks like ball joint failure, either upper or lower. Earlier Liberty models have had the same/similar issues. At 70mph, this could cause a fatal accident.
Driving with my wife on I-95 north in connecticut early Saturday morning, our right rear tire instantly lost air pressure. I saw the low air warning light go on first, then immediately felt the vehicle wobble to the point where I could barely control it. I was able to safely get it to the right side shoulder where I changed the tire. I noticed that the entire valve was missing from the rim. I did not notice any nails or other penetrations of the tire itself. Had it been one of the front tires, I might have lost control of the car. When we got to a tire store to have the bad tire checked out, the mechanic & the owner said we had defective air pressure sensor valves and that we essentially experienced a blowout. The mechanic showed us the other valves and they were all cracked as well. We had them all replaced and had to buy a new tire as well. The cracks in the sensor valves were obvious. This is a major safety matter that could cause fatalities if they have not occured already.

When driving my my car started leaning to the left driver's side. I haven't hit anything or been in a car accident. Anytime I am at a 25+ speed it is more noticeable, and very much so on the highway. Nothing else seems wrong with the car but I'm afraid this may do other damage to the car. As I have been researching for recalls there seem to be others with a similar problem as this.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated that while traveling approximately 65 mph, the vehicle was swaying back and forth and then the tpms warning lamp illuminated. Upon merging to the side of the road and inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that the right rear tire went flat. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the valve core fractured causing a blow out of the back of the tire. The independent mechanic replaced the valve stems on all four tires. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
I bought a2006 Jeep Liberty in August of 2014,been having problems with the tires ,which keep seeping air and I have to put air in it every other day. When I press on the foot pedal the car jerks and it speeds up by itself. Couldn't get my key out after it was put in park. Press on brakes and still couldn't get them out. The shift lever moves without pressing on the button that supposed to lock it in place. The date that I put in is for the shift lever which still isn't fixed yet . The other things been going on since I bought the car .
I was pulling out of a parking lot when my steering wheel locked up and I couldn't turn the wheel anywhere causing to drive on the curb and hit a fire hydrant.

Right front of 2007 Jeep Liberty fell to the ground just after moving forward in a parking lot. Wheel bent out and all fluids released to the ground. If this had happened a few minutes later would have been driving on the interstate at approximately 65 mph. The vehicle would not move when pushed, so most likely at that speed it would have flipped over carrying a mother and child. Jeep had recalls for this problem through 2005. There are many complaints on this exact issue on the 2007. Jeep refused to assist in any way. The manager stated that it was not under warranty. Parts needed for repair: control arm, ball joint and wheel which was cracked when the incident occurred. 1231. 00. Jeep needs to step up and cover/reimburse for safety issues that are known issues on their vehicles. No good faith for safety from Jeep. Recall these parts before people get killed.

I was driving down the highway and I don't really remember the moment before the accident but I lost control of my car and hit the median barricade head on and from there my car kept going across the highway off to the grass area. I was the only one injured and taken to the hospital. My car is ruined and I faced a broken nose, back, knee, knock, head, and shoulder brushing and pain, and now I keep having a short term memory on some occasions. I also get nauseated when k get in a vehicle and get terrified when I'm with someone driving down the street. I have no vehicle at the time, it's been almost two and a half months and I haven't had any help with anything. I am a full time college student working a part time job, my sister or boyfriend have to take me to work and school, it's getting pretty tiring for them to take me everywhere. I work about 15 minutes away from my home and it's difficult for them to take me when they have school and work on those days. The air bags in my Jeep did not deploy, it went in for the recall and you can literally see the sensors, the clearly should have deployed. My Jeep had no engine or air bag codes of any kind. . So why didn't they go off?! I'm terrier that im going to loose my job and not afford to pay rent or bills.
My boyfriends daughter was driver and my daughter (both minors) head busted on the front passenger windshield. Cars in front of them stopped abruptly and they were going 55 mph and could not get stopped, hitting the car stopped in front of them. Neither driver nor passenger airbag deployed. My daughter is lucky!.
We are the original owners of the Jeep Liberty 2006 that had a recall on the ball joints and stabilizer bars in 2006. Of course, we had the vehicle repaired when the Jeep was only a few months old. It may have had less than 1000 miles on it at the time. When visiting the dealer on Dec 2, 2014 for an oil change and tire balance. I was informed that the ball joints on driver's and passenger's side of Jeep were in need of replacement at a cost of 1100. 00 (we only have 61,600 miles on Jeep) I was shocked that a vehicle that has been garage kept and only driven by the mom of the family around town of about 6000 miles a year could incur such a drastic problem. This is a valid safety issue with the integrity of the recall. The repair should have a lifetime warranty or at least 100k miles. There is absolutely no way, these ball joints disintegrated without being faulty from the being. My question lies if my vehicle was really taken care of, or was it just looked at because it was brand new at the time. Our Liberty has had full synthetic oil changes and treated with the utmost care. So it really saddens me that Chrysler has such "safety" issues. Of all things that can go wrong with a car, when it refers to a previous recall, it's obvious the issue was never really addressed.
I purchased a new 2012 Jeep Liberty from a dealership in September of 2012. The vehicle has p235/60r18 fortera hl tires on it. The advertised mileage on this tire is 60k miles. I was told that when these tires are put on new vehicles that they are sub-standard. My car now has 30,200 miles and the tires are worn smooth with normal driving. Goodyear said that they would replace the 4 tires for $623. 00. When I researched the reviews, my situation was rather common. The tires are unsafe to drive on in their current condition and when the public relies on an advertised mileage of 60k miles, this is a blatant misrepresentation of the product.
Vehicle vibrates at any speed and worsens upon braking. Have had alignment done 3 times and alignment keeps failing. Tires are all new. Have had the camber and casters replaced in front, did not help vibration. Brakes have been replaced, vibration persists. Vibration is so powerful upon braking that sterring wheel bounces out of my hands. The vibration when driving sounds like I have a flat tire.
Got a flat tire and noticed that my two front tires were wearing extremely unevenly (both tires looked fine on outside, really worn on inside). Been noticing some slipping in the steering wheel for about a month, getting worse throughout the month. Aaa came to fix the tire and said the ball joint looked bad and that they "see this all the time on these vehicles. " I had already had f23 done on this car which was supposed to fix the lower ball joints but probably didn't and noticed there was a recall called j17 which covers the upper ball joints which for some reason didn't apply to my vehicle because it was built in may 2001 and the affected vehicles were built may-sept 2002. I suspect my vehicle should have been part of that recall, especially after what aaa said and what they said at the repair shop, that they see faulty ball joints on these all the time. Why was my defective car not included? did Jeep really make the cars worse after may 2002 or is it more likely mine had the same problem? this omission has led to an extremely hazardous condition and unreliable steering. I have had nothing but problems with this car since we bought it a year ago. A/c evaporator went bad out of nowhere, hit a bump which caused one of my brakes to snap, something that's inexcusable with an SUV, it's just repair after repair.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Liberty. The contact stated the ball joints broke off the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed as the ball joints and the arm bar needed to be replaced. The vehicle was fixed and the contact would like to be reimbursed. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 75,000. Rk.
