Car Stall problems of the 2007 Jeep Patriot

My Jeep stalls every time after I fill it with gas, I pull out in traffic and it just stalls and I have no control over steering or nothing. It is extremely dangerous.

Every time I refuel the vehicle sputters and stalls. No matter what grade of fuel. It will sputter and stall for up to 20 miles after I fill it up. It has even stalled when pulling into traffic and the steering wheel locks when that happens. It's not safe. The Jeep dealership has been replacing stuff hoping to find a fix but no luck so far. Vapor/liquid separator valve. Everytime I fill up my gas tank, within a few meters of the gas station my car begins to bucks and stall. Every single time! almost causing multiple accidents. This is an ongoing problem.

The car regularly stalls immediately after filling the gas tank up to full. Whether coming to a stop, or cruising, or lifting off the gas pedal while moving. Occasionally, early in the morning, it may stall also. It will restart immediately after stalling but the stalling is dangerous when driving at speed, on the highway, and/or in traffic.

Car stalls while driving on city street immediately after filling up the tank with fuel. This has happened over 20 times.

Every single time I fill up the tank, it runs a very short distance from the gas station and starts to buck and jolt like it wants to shut off. When the car stalls out, the steering wheel locks up and the brakes lose power. Very dangerous!.

I have owned my 2007 Jeep Patriot since June 2017. About 3 months into owning it I have noticed that it will stall directly after I fill my gas tank. After I leave the gas station, I notice that the Jeep starts to rattle and slow down, and while this is happening my steering wheel locks up and I am unable to turn and accelerate. This has happened about 10 times so far, and the most recent occurrence (12/11/17) it stalled 3 times within 5 minutes before the problem went away. There are no lights that warn me of this on the dash, making this a serious issue that could cause an accident if I were to be on a highway or busy intersection.

The problem has been ongoing for over a year even after trying several different expensive corrective repairs. After refueling my Jeep Patriot, it stalls bucks and jerks. I start it up, and upon pressing the accelerator and pull away from pumps or out into traffic it begins to sputter buck and stall. It is very dangerouse esecially when pulling out of a gas station into traffic which has caused several close calls of my being hit because it has stalled in intersections and on the highway. I relaced the O2 sensor and it did not correct the situation. I used higher octane fuel and it did not correct the situation. I used fuel treatment purchased from dealership upon their advisement after replacing the fuel filter and having the fuel system serviced and it did not correct the situation.

Shortly after filling the gas tank of my 2007 Jeep Patriot (49xxx miles) I was coming to a 4 way intersection (only my side and the opposite side of the intersection has stop signs). As I was pulling through the intersection my Jeep Patriot stalled and I lost my power steering and brakes. I was almost struck on the passenger side by a vehicle traveling from the right side of the intersection from my orientation of the intersection. I tried to restart the vehicle for about 5 minutes to no avail. It would start and then immediately stall again. After almost being struck 5-6 times and after about 5 minutes of being stuck in the middle of an intersection I managed to start the vehicle up and drive it home by driving about 15 miles per hour on backroads for the remaining 2 miles to my house. After searching the internet to find the problem I found that this is a common issue among many Jeep Patriot/compass owners and nothing has been done to address the issue. Please look into this issue as myself and my passenger (fiancee) could have been seriously injured if not for sheer luck.

After fueling with gas, my vehicle immediately stalled. It was then fine after I restarted it until I got to a roundabout where it stalled again, losing all power steering, brakes, power, speed, in heavy traffic. It was fine for a week after this until I got gas again, in which case, I was just about to enter the interstate when it stalled again, losing all of the basic functions again in rush hour traffic where I had to sit on the side of the road for 20 minutes while my vehicle ran and stalled repeatedly until it worked itself out. This is a very dangerous situation and could have been much worse had I already been on the interstate. This is a definite issue that needs to be taken seriously and fixed as I see I am not the only one that has had this issue. I got gas again last week where afterwards my Jeep stalled on main street during lunch traffic. I shouldn't have to be scared to put gas in my vehicle in case it decides to stall in another dangerous situation. I am worried about my safety and any passengers I may have with me at any point in time when it stalls and stops working completely while I am driving down any road. I am also concerned that I will be doing more wear and tear damage on my battery and starter as I am trying to restart my vehicle after it stalls on these roads with minimum to no shoulders. Vehicle stalls suddenly after re-fueling. This started happening a few weeks ago and now happens every time the car is re-fueled. It occurs a mile or so after leaving the gas station without warning in traffic. Defective fuel system problem is repeatable and dangerous. Get this recalled.

I bought this vehicle in January 2016 for our daughter to take to college out of town. I checked for recalls before I bought and found none. The vehicle was purchased from a chevy dealer. After our purchase, I filled the tank with fuel. When I pulled away from the gas station and into traffic the vehicle stalls and cuts off in the middle of two lanes of traffic. I restarted it and went about a block and the vehicle stalls out going about twenty miles per hour while I was in traffic. I made it back home and called the dealer I purchased the vehicle from and they stated they did not know anything about it. I called a local Jeep dearlership and asked a service manager and he said he has not heard of this problem. Imagine how you would feel if your child was driving a vehicle with this issue! my daughter did call yesterday, 1/24/2016 and stated she must have put too much fuel in the Jeep because it stalled out in traffic after she pulled out of the gas station. My issue with this is that it seems to be a known documented issue and has been addressed multiple times on this site. The culprit seems to be a fuel/vapor canister valve in the fuel tank and causes the vehicle to stall if filled all the way up. There has been no recalls from Jeep but you guys have documented cases. I bought the Jeep used with no warranty offered so I am stuck with this. My question is why has there not been a recall issued from your department? I do not think it is responsible for Jeep to ignore this issue nor your department ignore it also. There are a lot of complaints on the same issue with no action. I will appreciate you taking action to have Jeep resolve this immediately.

After refueling vehicle to full tank capacity, the vehicle stalls and steering wheel locks in an intersection within a few blocks from the gas station. For 2 years, this vehicle has been stalling after every gas refueling. It has now started to lock the steering wheel concurrent with the stalling. My wife, who was driving the vehicle at the time of the 8/18/15 incident felt she was in danger as cars tried to avoid the vehicle as well as almost hitting another vehicle because of the locked steering wheel.

After refueling my 2007 Jeep Patriot the car will stall in the middle of the intersection. The oil light comes on and the abs lock up. You have to turn the car on and off a few times it then sputters and will jump when accelerating. This has happened every time after the car has been filled with gas. It is getting harder an harder to re start when it stalls in the middle of the street on the way home from the gas station.

After leaving a gas station and driving about a half of mile down the road, my car started to stall. I then had to put my car in park and completely turn it off and turn it back on. When I went to turn it back on, it did not start up right away. Then the next red light that I stopped at, which was a half of mile after the first stop, my car stalled again. I then put the car back in park, put my flashers on and restarted the car. Now every time I fill my tank to full the car stalls. It is very scary and when I took it to the mechanic, he said it would cost about $1000 to replace the gas tank. Apparently, there is a valve that prevents the gas from leaking out if the car were to ever rollover. In order to fix this problem, I was told that the whole gas tank would have to be replaced.

A mechanic told me that the overflow valve is probably the problem,. He stated that when filing up with gas, it is not shutting off the nozzle flow in time, and although it isn't spilling gas on the ground it is wetting the canister. He says that throws off the air-gas calculations until the canister dries, 1-4 mins after running. In the meantime, it shutters hard and/or stalls multiple times, even while driving. His recommendation was to live with it and just manually fill up a little under full. This is because the valve can't be replaced w/o replacing the entire tank.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Patriot. After the contact refueled the vehicle, it stalled. The failure occurred on another occasion while the vehicle was idling at a stop light. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.

Car is stalling when stopped at a red light, or waiting to make a turn. It shakes violently and if it is not given gas immediately after shaking begins, engine will cut out. I have almost been hit because I have to turn the key and re-start the car. This happens every single day at least 5 times a day. I have brought it to the Jeep dealership twice and $900 later, they can not tell me what is wrong with my car. I have not noticed any change at all after having the car serviced.

The vehicle stalls when idling during rain or wet conditions.

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that while at a stop sign, the vehicle stalled. The failure recurred multiple times over the past seven years. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 300.

On several occasions my Jeep Patriot has stalled/cut off while driving it.

I was stopped at a traffic light and my vehicle stalled on me, it began to shake a bit before it turned off. In order to get the vehicle back on, I had to turn the key to off, put the vehicle in park, then turn the vehicle back on. Unfortunately, I've been having this issue since 2007 and we are in 2013. I have taken the SUV to Jeep multiple times and they cannot find the problem, even after leaving it for over a week. Last week, I was making a u-turn when the vehicle stalled on me once again. I drew the line and I'm ready to take legal action. My life was suddenly in danger as I had a vehicle approaching me at over 40mph. Something must be done to get these vehicles off the street. The worst part is that Jeep gave me a lifetime power train warranty but since they are unable to locate the issue with the vehicle I have had to live with this horrible vehicle and the worst service that Jeep offers.

2007 Jeep Patriot - complete engine/electrics stall. Driving down a busy street and all the electronics and the engine turned off. Coasted into a side street, stopped, and put the car in park. It took about 2-3 turns of the key to start the Patriot back up. Happened around the 3k mile mark.

The car stalled out since the first day I bought it (Jan. 1, 2008). It is now August 2014 and I still have this problem, except now it's a much more dangerous and bigger problem. If I go slow or stop to turn in the middle of an intersection, it stalls out. I almost got hit/killed today. The terrible part about it is that I've been complaining about this from day 1. Every time I take it to the dealership, they can never find the problem. I just tried calling Chrysler and they are telling me I've only taken it in once for this issue, which is not true at all. . Even if it was just once, they still didn't know what was causing the problem so they "could not fix it. ".
