general problems of the 2008 Jeep Patriot

The vehicle stalls after a gas fill up. Daughter was stuck in traffic. No power steering, brakes, etc. Started back up. Very dangerous. This has happened after every fill up.

Car stalls after fill up. Numerous online Jeep forums have noted this issue for years. There seems to be an issue with the “vapor canister”. Recall was apparently issued for 2011 model - but not older models. It is intermittent yet consistent problem over past few months. Please note that an engine stall leaves steering wheel locked and unable to maneuver car for a period until can restart. Can leave driver on a very dangerous situation traveling at speed !.

Unknown after I fill up on gas at different stations I had the car sputter and die after filling up til the nozzle stopped itself went to go start the car the first time it happened I got maybe half a mile down the road and stopped at a light and the car died. The second time I was at another gas station and I forgot to shut the car off because it was freezing cold felt like a negative 10 I went to go leave and thought OH crap let me shut it off for a second so the gas would register faster of what I had then if I left it on. I went to go drive away then and the car wouldn’t move I thought great what could it be well I looked down and I wasn’t “on” so I restarted the car and I could tell the car started and I sat for a few and it died. I waited a few seconds and started it again and sat for a few and then was able to go about my business. The third time I filled up and didn't think anything of it because it had been awhile since it happened but I pulled out on the street and it was at a t intersection and I was coming up and to the left well when I turned I died and the light had changed to green I was barely able to make it into the turn lane from when I coasted I shut it off and turned it back on again and we were good. Well this is what happened last night I went to the gas station filled up and sat there for a second and went to start car and it died I wait a few did it again it died. I did this like 4-5 times and I wasn't far from home so I said let's just hurry up and get home. So I got it started and I was pushing the gas as little to keep it from dying and it made it about a mile down the road and acted like it was about to shut off. I made it home sat in the driveway for about 20 mins and it acted fine.

My complaint is that a week later after we bought the vehicle the check engine light came on. We went to a mechanic to read us the signs and has so many issues wrong with it and the miles are low on the vehicle but really high on history. Water comes inside my vehicle making it flood. Also when we drive we try to accelerate and the speed stays at 20mph and makes ticking noise. This is not safe especially when I'm with my kids. I try switching lanes and it takes time to switch lanes or make turn because of how slow the acceleration is.

Each time after fueling up the vehicle, it stalls out. This has happened twice within a week of each other on a city street after leaving the gas station. The first time my foot was on the brake and the car stalled out. The next time the car was in motion and stalled. This is a frightening and commonly cited issue with Patriot owners.

I filled up the Jeep with gas while stationary and off. I turned on the Jeep and the engine turned over fine. I stopped at the stop sign while exiting the gas station, and the engine stalled and the wheel locked. This happens every time I fill up. The engine stalls for several days after fill up anytime I come to a full stop. Thankfully, I have yet to get into an accident but, I no longer feel confident that this vehicle will remain reliable. This malfunction could cause serious accidents or the inability to move out of the way in an emergency.

After filling up gas the car turns off engine then start it up and turns off while driving. Very dangerous there has to be a recall on this???!!! please I am not safe driving this. I just bought this Jeep a qeek ago. This happened 2x already.

Our 2008 Jeep Patriot 4 x 4 has at times cut off completely while driving. When we were getting ready to take it to a local mechanic, we had an even scarier thing happen. Both rear wheels are rubbing wheel wells which means something has rusted through in the sub frame or control arms. We are 25 miles from our mechanic so now vehicle needs to be towed into town to even be checked out. We need to find out if the extended warranty for rust and corrosion will cover our vehicle. There are currently 280,000 miles on the vehicle which has been heavily driven in a "salt belt" state of maryland for work duties.

Everytime right after I fill up my 2008 Jeep Patriot (car is shut off while fueling) the Jeep either bucks me back and forth like it's a manual getting stuck between gears for about 1 minute (it's an automatic) or it stalls and dies (car shuts off). So far when the Jeep dies it has turned back on. . This happens normally under a half mile after the Jeep has been filled up with gas to the fill mark. The car is in motion when this occurs and it usually occurs on city streets seeing as most gas stations are in town, but this has occurred on the highway after filling up with gas at a station located right off of the highway.

After refueling my Patriot, the car will sputter, lurch, and occasionally stall. The symptoms only occur after refueling within the first few miles and then becomes a nonissue until I refuel again. I hadn't had any issue over the past couple refuelings and this evening (3/6/2018) the problem resurfaced as I entered traffic and my car stalled and steering lost. I ended up straddling the center turn lane with a portion of the car hanging in the left lane of both traffic directions. I was able to finally get it restarted and repositioned so it no longer was an obstacle. After entering traffic again, it stalled one more time within a mile and then operated without incident. This issue has occurred on and off over 8 months but had not previously resulted in hazardous road conditions for myself and others. In reviewing forums for Chrysler/Jeep owners, this appears to be a known issue with fca vehicles.

After refueling the Patriot I drove approximately 1/4 mile and the vehicle bucked, shuddered and shut off. The steering wheel locked in place and since there was no vacuum pressure the breaks we're not very effective. I was able to restart the vehicle after putting it in nuetral while on the entrance ramp to an interstate. This was the second time this had happened and until now I did not know they incidents were connected. The first time it occurred I had just refueled and was pulling up at a stop light and it turned off while I was stopping for the light.

Have had my Jeep for 6 years its always stalling I took it to Jeep Chrysler Dodge, firestone nobody can figure out whats wrong; it actually turns itself off and nobody knows why. This is dangerous this car needs a recall. I have read that 2012 models do this same thing but this one does it too. Also the sunroof leaks as well and the rainwater goes into the lights. I would never recommend a Jeep to anybody ever again, these cars are not safe and no one cares about this problem. I have paid to get it looked at but they don't know how to fix it, I have been told it probably needs a system update there is nothing wrong but yet my car turns itself off all the time going down the highway at speeds 65 miles an hour the engine stalls and shuts off the sunroof has leaked and poured inside the Jeep since the day I had it it's a very dangerous vehicle it needs to please be investigated.

Gas pump will either cut off way prematurely or will overflow. Turned out to be a bad check valve.

Shortly after refueling the vehicle, it stalls and sputters for 3-60 seconds. This happens after every refuel. During most fill ups I am driving on the highway and after the fill up I get back on the highway and get up to 60-70mph, when it sputters at this speed the car jerks and I briefly lose the ability to accelerate because gas will not pump during the sputtering. If I fill up while driving in the city the Jeep simply just dies if the rpm are under 900 or if it's idling. Everything on the Jeep is stock, no aftermarket parts. I have seen reports of this happening to numerous other Jeep Patriot owners. I am unsure of the part causing the issue.

When fueling the fuel backs up and shuts the pump off after just a few cents at a time taking 20 minutes to fuel and having fuel spray on me and all over my car over and over. Very dangerous! I can't believe this was not a recall after reading about so many others with the same problem.

Over the past several months I am unable to put gas and it it shuts off the pump and usually it doesn't start afterwards but I will be driving down the highway at speed of 65 70 miles per hour the vehicle traction control light will come on the check engine light continues to flash standing in the engine locks up in the car stalls and dies and will not restart very dangerous and very scary.

The vehicle was driven to a gas station and was filled up with gas. The fuel was not "topped off" and fueling was stopped when the fuel nozzle shut off. Upon leaving the gas station and driving less than 1/4 mile, the engine stalled and shut off while the vehicle was in drive and driving on the highway. The vehicle would not start for approximately 5 minutes. The vehicle was able to drive after this.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that after the vehicle was refueled, the vehicle experienced a loss of power while driving 35 mph. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the vehicle should not be completely refueled in order to avoid the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

After filling up, the vehicle bucks and stalls. After a fill up this past weekend, the Jeep stalled in the middle of a congested intersection leaving me momentarily stranded. Luckily, after a few attempts, the vehicle restarted. Very scary!! this has happened numerous times when leaving the gas station. It wasn't until researching this issue that I discovered many people with the same issue.

The failure persisted after the repair. The contact mentioned that the failure was contributed to the fuel system. The failure recurred only after refueling and when driving at various speeds. In addition, the steering wheel seized on a separate occasion. The engine was turned off and restarted. The vehicle resumed normally. The vehicle was not repaired for a second time. The manufacturer wa snot notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 103,000. Js.

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Patriot. While driving at a low speed, immediately after refueling, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. In addition, the cruise control lever was activated but failed to function and the doors failed to lock and unlock electronically. The failures recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the instrument cluster needed to be reprogrammed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed for the stalling failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

17/October 2015 3:00pm have fire in the line of fule or gasoline line over the motor. Over the 4 inyector sensor the line cut and splash gasoline. In this moment the motor off and not have key in the ingnition. In this moment just a extintor for off the fire. The damage see a line cut or explote over the motor 2. 4. The vehicle was stationary over 10 minute in the yard of club the lions of guayanilla town of puerto rico country 00656 area code.

Car stalls shortly after refueling. Generally I drive for about 60 seconds at which point if I slow down too much it stalls out. This has been an intermittent issue for several years.

The last two times I got gas my Patriot stalled while driving. When it stalls the steering wheel locks. Very dangerous I see online that it is a known defect and many people are reporting this with older Patriot vehicles. Please recall this before someone is killed.

Car was driving on highway approx 50 mph and lost power and turned off. Jeep was unable to diagnose problem or provide parts.

The car was in drive, however the gas pedal was not accelerating the car. It jerked several times and felt like it was going to stall then the electronic throttle light came on for a short time then went out- I took it to my mechanic he confirmed the car needed the throttle body however there are none on long island there are more then 450 on backorder coming from overseas!!!! it has happened intermittently for the past week and I cannot get it fixed. I am afraid the it is dangerous. Apparently if I am not able to find this part on long island this may be an issue that Jeep Chrysler should be addressing. There are only 60k miles on this car.
