I cannot put gas in my car, continuously shuts off and spits fuel back out like its full. It takes about 20 minutes to get enough gas in it to feel like I can drive a little distance without worrying I will run out since it always acts as if its full. It also seems as if it wants to stall out at times and I just give it more gas. I have had this car for a few months now and im scared its going to stall and cause an accident. Having a difficult time with getting someone to work on it, codes will not diagnose. After reading I saw this had recalls in the past. Should this car have been recalled?.
Intake manifold flow valve was replaced and so was the manifold. One month later my vehicle threw an engine light for code p2015 for the same issue. I then replace the valve again three days after thinking it was a faulty part and almost a week last same code with the engine light. It give very bad idling and with jump the rpm to almost 4k before the vehicle even moves. Needless to say pulling out in traffic would be impossible unless I was to be hit by multiple vehicles.
I submitted a form yesterday and forgot to mention that there have been a few other odd things about the Jeep which I'm not sure how to explain. 1. There has, since day 1 of my purchase, test drive, etc, always been some weird whistling sound when driving. Very light, like the kind of whistle made with just your tongue at the roof of the mouth. Not a "full" whistle sound. 2. When going uphill, the engine squeals. And honestly has poor acceleration uphill in general. Very poor. But I thought it was how this make and model is. 4 cylinders aren't known for their awesome power and speed, after all. 3. Occasionally, the Jeep "tugs"? seemingly like how manuals switch between gears, but mine is an automatic. It does so unprovoked, not by my using the cvt option, randomly, at any speed. 4. Occasionally there would be a "dropping" kind of sound. Can't remember any particular details about that, but I think it may have happened more in the summer months. Again. All of these things, other than the last, had always been happening. I attributed it to make and model idiosyncrasies. I have noticed other recall issues listed with this Jeep that I glanced over, did not read them. Just so you know. But, after my engine went out, it made me reconsider all of these "odd" things that are probably connected. Oh yeah. . . Also. . . 5. I had to replace my engine throttle, supposedly brakes plus says it's also "normal" for this model. 6. My engine blew very shortly after an oil pan gasket fix, which I put off for a while. Makes me think there's a pressure problem with the engine in general, when combined with the other "symptoms", on hindsight. Like I said, I was an oil tech for jiffy lube, I am not a mechanic. But this experience may have taught me a thing or two about suspicious auto mechanisms.
Along with complaints 11466544 11466577 I want to add that I bought this car in November 2015. The engine blew in may 2021 with 104k miles. Not at all what would expect from a 2010+ model vehicle. And another thing . . . . I'm used to needing more regular tune ups. So, once a year -ish. . . I'd take the Jeep in for spark plug replacement, etc. Well, when I switched to the other brkes plus closer to my home, the tech told me that's not required for this Jeep. We actually kind of got into it. But, we're able to amicably come to agreement. Anyways, the other brakes plus did so without argument, at least twice. After me and dude from brakes plus had our lil tiff. . . I reevaluated my owners manual, and confirmed the spark plug thing. He was right. But one thing I always found odd. . . Was that transmission fluid replacement was not recommended untilb130,000. Did I find that odd?? yes! because I've was an oil tech at one point in my life. But! if that's what the manual says. . . Who am I to argue with that? I mention this because that was one of the things I saw when perusing over recalls, etc. A reviewer recommended to not wait until the manual's recommendation. Who was this person? idk. Is this accurate? the 130k thing? because when I got into my "argument" at brakes plus, my exact verbiage was I'm here for a tune up, I'm here to get done whatever needs to get done on this car. If manufacturer information is incorrect, that's a problem. I've had 2 cars repossessed. It was extremely important to me to maintain this vehicle and pay it off. I do have a little bit of a fondness for working on engines. No, I have not done anything to this engine myself. I know this isn't some top of a model line car, but it seemed like the perfect kind of engine to tinker on someday. But not at 104,000 miles. Not on a well maintained vehicle. I would also think that if the manual recommends 120000k trannie fluid replacement for the first time that the engine would last at least until then? lol.
Ah. . . Yes. And the most absolute weirdest thing of all about this Jeep- the manual that came with the Jeep (which I cant seem to find) stated 85 gas is recommended. Did I think that was weird? yes! it's a truck. Kinda heavy. . . Didn't expect 85 gas. But it's a 4cylinder, so ok. That manual was also not very thorough, for lack of a better term, so I purchased one. That manual stated 87. Put 87 in it. The Jeep lost acceleration power. Couldn't get above 35mph. Boomerang only takes 85. Weird. Didn't put too much thought into it. If I remember correctly, this issue always resolved on its own somehow. Not sure why. Anyhow. That has happened about 4 or 5 times under my ownership. Every now and again, after regular maintenance, I would kind of check it, to see. On several occasions, when I took it in for regular oil changes, I'd mention that issue, no one had anything to say about it. Other than it was weird. Agreed. Aside from the issues mentioned in complaints 11466583 11466544 11466577 it ran fine. I never considered those issues as disrupting my driving needs. I'm pretty much a city driver. Jobs were close by. Groceries. Occasional mountain and hiking trips- drives out of town, never towed anything. Thinking back to when I fixed my engine throttle and was told that would probably be a recurring theme, bc it's a Patriot, that whole gas thing really started nagging at me. Ok, Jeep gave me something to tinker on. No biggie. It's almost a 10 year old car. Something's bound to happen. Uh- but not a whole blown engine, that's for sure. This was, however, within the first year of covid, and I was driving considerably less, so that concern subsided. 3-4 months later, fixed oil pan gasket. 2-3 months after that, engine blew. Lastly, unless I remember something else- over the years I've seen numerous Patriots on the side of the highway and wondered what kinds of issues they had. Weird? yes. My engine literally never stalled out until last year. I must've been something right.
Ah- yes, the absolute most weirdest thing about this Jeep. When putting the recommended 87 gas in the tank, it loses acceleration power. The manual that came with it (which I cant seem to find) stated 85. Did I think that was weird? yes! it's a truck, kinda heavy, but it is a 4 cylinder- so ok Jeep. That manual, however, was not very thorough, so I purchased one. That one stated 87. Put 87 in it. Nope. Boomerang only takes 85. When 87 is put in, it loses acceleration power and won't go above 35 mph. The issue always seemed to resolve on its own. Not sure why, and I didn't put much thought into it. Every now and then I would try 87, same thing happened. This happened about 4 or 5 times under my ownership. I mentioned this several times at regular maintenance and oil changes. No one had much to say about it other than that was weird. Agreed. Aside from the issues mentioned in complaints 11466577 11466544 11466583 it ran fine. I never considered it as disrupting my driving needs. I'm pretty much a city driver. Jobs close by. Groceries. Some trips out of town and to the mountains. Never towed anything on it. So now, thinking back to when I fixed the engine throttle and was told that would be a recurring theme because it's a Patriot- ok, something's bound to happen, it's almost a ten year old car (at the time). The Jeep gave me something to tinker on- no biggie. But not a whole blown engine at 104k, that's for sure. And the combined issues started nagging at me. But it was after covid happened, I was driving considerably less, and that concern quickly subsided. 3-4 months later, fixed oil pan gasket. 2-3 months after that, engine blew. Lastly, unless I remember something else- over the years I've seen numerous Jeep Patriots on the side of the highway (looked like about the same year, make model)- and I always wondered what kind of issues they had. My engine never literally stalled out until last year. Weird? yes.
Something is wrong with the engine. I was told the engine is blown. I've maintained my vehicle and completed recommended repairs by brakes plus. I'd like to mention that as a former lube tech for jiffy lube, I am familiar with oil top offs. Naturally, I periodically checked my dip stick to confirm oil levels. It always read at an acceptable level. Did I think it was weird? no, because I'm not a mechanic. I just thought that's how Jeeps are. Go Jeep! I'm a fan. . . Well, my engine blew. Took it to brakes plus,l (towed), after a few check ups (towed each time)asked the techs how much oil was in the tank. Was told 2 quarts. I'm thinking that should have been reflected somehow on the dipstick. It wudnt. Since my car's been dead, thought I'd "experiment" with the oil readings. I have not driven the Jeep. Anyhow, put a quart in- low and behold. . . It reads way above the max fill marker. As far as I know, there's only about 3 quarts in there. Also, my engine always had this 'tick' . Again, did not find it weird, thought that's how Jeeps are. Noticed it on day one, asked the salesman, he stated that's normal for the Patriot. After this issue happened, I've found several youtube videos with explanations of valve cover adjustments being needed, cheap fix, supposedly. I've been quoted 4000-9000 for engine replacement. The valve adjustment thing. . I don't know, maybe they have selective hearing, or 4-9k sounds better, cuz no one has even acknowledged that I mentioned that, or cared to confirm. Regardless, the dipstick is wrong. Seems pretty important. Especially if my engine is, in fact, blown.
The catalytic converter failed. It had to be replaced.
When I turn my blinkers on left or right blinker, the windshield wipers come on. Not every time, but at least once a day. Catalytic converter emissions will not pas inspections. This car is not that old and have read many people complaining about the catalytic converter not passing inspection because of emissions. My car will not pass inspection and was told they were recalling Jeep Patriots.
Vehicle will die during driving. Causing everything to not function correctly. Until it is able to be restarted.
2 incidents same day. Vehicle in motion, lost of control, poor response of steering wheel, brakes not responding, engine and/or electrical system not working properly. Engine cutting off. Tipm problem. Esc and engine lights on. Sounds of car surging. No acceleration in some cases and uphill in particular. We could have got killed if it had happened on the highway for sure.
Tl the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Patriot. While driving various speeds, the vehicle suddenly shut off. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the fuel pump, but the failure continued. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Arrigo Dodge Chrysler/Jeep sawgrass (5901 madison Ave, tamarac, FL) and the manufacturer were notified. The failure mileage was 102,000.

It always happens while on the freeway. After a chokehold hours of driving, gas tank is fine, my cause shuts off, unable to accel and no function to increase speed. I have to then pull to the side and wait for it to "cool down. " this has happened 3 times. Last time it happened I had only been driving for 1 hr and the transmission temp. Warning light came on.
Ac actuator blend doors not working properly. This is a common problem with 2012 Jeep Patriots. Does not work if the car is in motion or if it's stationary.
Total tipm failure, with engine, brakes, steering, airbags failing all at once, with no warning, in traffic. 87 yr. Old with near fatal breakdown. Contacted Jeep, sent in documentation, told 6 mths. For reimbursement, then refused because VIN did not match recall list. Part was backordered because of mass failure.
I have had numerous problems with my 2012 Jeep Patriot. From the beginning my transmission would constantly over heat and I brought it into the dealer at about 30,000 miles and they said, "there is nothing wrong. " the problem persisted and finally they issued me a new transmission at about 50,000 miles. A few months later, the engine just stopped continuously on the highway & street. Then they discovered that it was the crankshaft sensor that was bad, which they replaced. I had to pay $100 because of a deductible. The car seemed to be working okay until June 22nd, 2015 when I was on a road trip and all of a sudden the car completely died with a huge semi truck behind me. I was traveling at about 75 mph and the car just completely shut down, power steering, everything went off except for the lights and other items run by the battery. We immediately tried our best to signal and finally made it safely off the highway at speeds of under 15 mph. The car gave us no check lights and no indication as to what was wrong with the vehicle except for that it would not turn over when we tried to start it. We had to have the vehicle towed while on a road trip. We live in California and had to have the vehicle towed in idaho falls, idaho which was extremely inconvenient. We rented a car and left the 2012 Jeep Patriot at the dealer hoping they could fix it upon our return to that area. They were unable to give us any answers and said the car started fine. Obviously, you can see how this is an issue. I have no problem fixing the car but with no answers to what is wrong and having the constant worry of wondering if my life and my family's life is in danger, is not something I am willing to tolerate. It seems that many people are having the same issue as well. I will be forwarding this for them to make a complaint as well. I will also follow up hoping that this issue can be resolved.
On October 28, 2015 with about 50,000 miles on it, my Jeep went into limp mode while I was driving 55 mph. Luckily I was able to pull over to the shoulder before getting rear-ended. Multiple lights turned on including the electronic throttle control, check engine, and traction control. I unhooked the battery and waited a few minutes. Hooked it back up and it seemed to be fine. Until March 13, 2016 when I was driving my daughter to the mall for her birthday. I was driving on a busy 4 lane road when my car seemed to turn off or loose all power while climbing a hill. Again, I just avoided being rear ended and pulled over to the side. I turned the key off, took it out, waited a few minutes and started it again and it worked. We went shopping and went back home without a problem, until the next day. March 14, 2016 while driving my daughters to school my Jeep went into limp mode. Luckily I was in the village and only going 30 mph, but all of the lights came on again-electronic throttle control, traction control, and check engine. I drove it back home and had it towed to the dealership. The dealership said that they did not know what was wrong with it. That after resetting the battery and performing a diagnostic check, only a vac leak was detected. They performed a check and confirmed (according to my invoice) that there were "no vacuum leaks at this time per code" and that "could be many things. " and they "cleared codes and road tested ok at this time. " so I drove it home from the dealership and to work today with no problems. When I went to go home, all the lights came on again. I do not feel safe and I feel stuck. No one seems to want to fix it because they do not know what to fix. . . And this is pathetic when even the dealership that I bought it from can not help. I am afraid someone will be killed if a solution is not found to this common problem with Jeep Patriots.
I was driving my 2012 Jeep Patriot on the highway when simultaneously, the electronic throttle control light started blinking red, my car started to jerk forward, and lost power. This reoccurred several times on the way to get it looked at. Each time it happened, I had to shut the vehicle off, wait a few minutes, and then restart. I took it to a Jeep dealer and without even looking at it, the guy said it would be about $600 to fix (even though I still have power train warranty). This to me looks like this is a reoccurring problem that Jeep is aware of, but is not doing anything about. Luckily each time this happened, I was able to pull over and avoid an accident, others might not be so lucky. Until this problem is resolved, my Jeep is not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Patriot. While driving at various speeds, the contact heard a sound from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Immediately after the vehicle was repaired, while driving 70 mph, the vehicle lost power and the electronic throttle control and fuel cap warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 47,555.
I was driving on the I-65 south to alabama, when I started to loose speed I really freaked out, and I pressed the gas pedal a little bit more but I kept loosin speed, I managed to move to the right shoulder and the good thing is that my bother-law was behind my vehicle so he realize that something was wrong with my car and that prevent me to be hit in the rear by another vehicle. I got off the car and I tried to start the car again, and the starter was working fine, then I did remember about the complaints on these carsthat if you have a 1/4 of a tank of fuel the engine would shut down, and I had a 1/4 of a tank one of my brothers went to get the gas, while I was calling Chrysler to let them know what happened with this car and the Chrysler guy was very helpful and offer me to sent me a tow truck, then I mentioned about the recall on these vehicles, I told him that I would try to put gas and if it worked there was no need to sent a tow truck, beside it was a family vacation and the least thing that I wanted was to spend it in a shop repair. My brother came back and the car starter right away. My family vacation was for 10 day and I was using another car from relatives in alabama, I made the appointment with my local dealership in chicago I told what happened and the said my car wasn't affected by the Chrysler's recall campaign n17 NHTSA campaign number:13v120000. But thy said they would take a look at the car, I brough it for service and they paid for a car rental but the technician couldn't duplicate the problem, they had it for three days and nothing, instead of replacing a transfer tube in the fuel tank but it's not in its recall list and Chrysler would not paid for that repair, so they wouldn't do it. Even though I paid for extra protection for 60,000 or 84 months. So I guess they will replace this little tube until people start to die in car accidents.
My husband and I were driving from new mexico to wyoming. The average speeds were between 65 and 75. After driving for about 5 hours, with stops every 2 hours to rest and get gas, the transmission light came on and the Jeep lost power. We pulled over to the side of the road and let it sit for about 10 min until the light went off. We drove the rest of the way at much lower speeds. Between 50 and 60 mph. The transmission overheated again on the way back after 6 hours or so, with stops every 2 hours. The dealership we took it to told us that there were no error codes, and no problems with the transmission or its fluid. There was nothing for them to fix. They advised us to stop often if we were planning on traveling for long distances. Thankfully (but very scary) we were in the middle of nowhere when it happened and not in the middle of heavy traffic.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Patriot. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle failed to shift into second gear. The contact noticed that the rpms increased. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the clutch failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 47,000. The VIN was not provided.
I have a 2012 Jeep Patriot, I purchased new about a year 9 mouths ago, it have 13000. 00 miles, I was driving on the freeway about 60 mph and the engine quit running as if it ran out of gas, I pulled over in very heavy traffic and tried starting after checking fuses and all possibilities. I had the car towed to the dealer and now the fun begins. After 2 hours and dropping the car at the dealer the car started, I left the car at the dealer and they said nothing is wrong with the car. After investigating the web I found this site and we present the information I found here to the dealer, the dealer wants to return to car and at this time I am not willing to except the car with this unsafe condition. Jeep should recall these cars and fix ASAP before a fatality takes place. The Jeep dealer will not do anything at this point. I would like a suggestion because this car is not safe to drive.
The contact owns a 2012 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that the transmission failed while driving 70 mph. The vehicle decelerated and caused the limp mode to activate. The contact was able to coast onto the road shoulder. After waiting a few minutes, the contact was able to restart the engine. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to skyland Chrysler Jeep Dodge (255 smokey high park land, ashville nc 28806 phone (828-667-5213)) for diagnostic testing, but a failure code could not be located. The dealer stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The failure mileage was 26,000.
I was driving on us 23 south just entering toledo when the vehicle lost power and after driving 4 hours at highway speeds. I was going about 60 mph at the time. As this has happened before, I pulled off at the exit at dropping power. . Could the car to go at most 10 mph and pulled into a service station to check fluids and refuel. After a few minutes the car restarted and was able to drive again. Taking the car into dealer but they already disavowed any recalls or reported troubles with the Jeep.
While driving my vehicle on the highway, we experienced a total loss of engine power. The Jeep was at speed 75-80mph when the vehicle began to decelerate, power steering was lost, and the engine died completely. Fortunately we were in a sparsely populated highway and were able to pull over safely, but it could have been far worse had there been anyone around us. I have no idea what happened exactly, but we were unable to start the engine again and had to have it towed 30 minutes to the nearest dealer. Upon this happening, I spoke with the jim click Chrysler / Jeep dealership in tucson where it was going to, and this is where it all went further downhill. Not only did they not really care that this had happened, but hey, it's Saturday man, and we're out of here soon, so good luck and sorry about that. We can help you on Monday, but can't answer any questions, hope you can find a ride home, OH and just leave your car outside the Nissan shop (really!?). Not only was this a highly unsafe failure at speed, on the highway, but the followup was so poor that I am furious about the customer-service level from the folks at the local place. I guess it's a good thing nobody was seriously injured.
The vehicle was purchased approximately two weeks prior to the incident with just shy of 15000 miles on it. Two separate two to three hour trips were made in the vehicle before the incident with no problems. On the tail end of a two and a half hour trip, after cruising between 70 to 75 mph on a major interstate, all of a sudden the vehicle's rpms shot up and the engine lost power. The vehicles behind me nearly rear ended me. I coasted to the shoulder, put the vehicle into park, and turned the vehicle off. I then cranked the vehicle and continued driving. The same incident happened again approximately fifteen miles further. I pulled over, turned the vehicle off, and then turned it back on, attempting to reach my destination if possible. This incident then happened a third time, approximately 5 to 10 miles further, once again on the same interstate, but this time in the middle of city traffic. I coasted to the shoulder and attempted to restart the vehicle. At this point the vehicle would not start. We had the vehicle towed and sent to a dealership where they could not recreate the problem. The cpu did not report any error codes. Each time this happened, I was nearly rear ended as I was cruising at interstate speeds in heavy traffic. The vehicle is still being inspected, but the dealerships cannot seem to recreate the problem, which is a big problem because I will be moving across country in two months and cannot risk this happening again. This vehicle as it stands is a danger not only to the driver but for other drivers on the road near the vehicle.
I was on the last stretch of my trip coming into reno nevada on interstate 80 west at the speed of 70 mph, when out of no where my 2012 Jeep Patriot shut off. It was not over heating no warning lights. I was very fortunate to maneuver my vehicle safely off to the side of the interstate without an accident occurring. A state trooper came up from behind within a few minutes thankfully. He asked me to sit in his vehicle while a tow truck driver was called because my vehicle was not in a safe place from the curve of the mountain and ongoing traffic. My Jeep would not start and would stick with the key on the on start position continually turning over without engine starting. It was after hours by the time my vehicle was towed in to a Jeep lithia dealership. To make a long story short, I was called to pick up my Jeep and that they could not find nothing wrong with it, and that the mechanic started it right up several times. I asked if it was put on the diagnostics machine and the service department employee said yes, that it did not kick out any codes of any problems happening to it. I drove a couple hours more into California with no other problems happening.
Stopped at red light on incline, went to go car would only roll backwards with no engine running. Turned off key, restarted vehicle. Stopped at same light incident was repeated 2 more times. Entering highway at stop light car approximately going less than 5 mph engine stopped running. Turned key off and turned the car back on.
This is the first of 2 incidents I have had with this car. I was coming back into California from arizona on the 40 west with cruise control on at 75 mph. Without indication, the throttle revved to 4500 rpm and the car lost speed. The engine was unresponsive to the gas pedal. I cancelled cruise control, and from the left lane was able to get over to the right shoulder. When we came to a stop, the engine died. The fuel gauge read just over 1/4 of a tank. The car would not start again. We called roadside assistance and they called a tow truck. The dealership was closed and we had to stay the night in a hotel. The next morning the car was taken to the dealership. The tech found no issues and was able to start the car with no incident. The diagnostic revealed no codes or errors. We were able to drive home the rest of the way. My Jeep is a 4x4 with the trail rated package.
Accelerating on the interstate when the engine died. Would not start for the next 2 1/2 hours. Dealership found nothing wrong the next morning. Electrical systems all appeared fine, car would not turn over. No "error codes" appeared when diagnostics were performed.
5/21 1st, 5/22 2nd, loss of complete power while driving on highway. While driving a wedding gift of a new 2012 Jeep Patriot on their honeymoon cross country to their new home in CA, the new wedding gift car died at 65 mph on ohio highway. Fixed in ohio (newleyweds left from ri), they proceeded journey to CA. In illinois, highway drive again same scenario, car died.
