When the engine stalls, all power is lost to the steering and breaking system.

I was driving my vehicle on an interstate in houston, texas at 71 mph and suddenly my engine stalled and I could not control my vehicle. Several vehicles behind me had to swerve around me and nearly hit my vehicle. My vehicle eventually came to a stop and I was able to re-start the engine. I have had 2 previous warranty recalls fixed on this vehicle - one related to a fuel transfer tube and the other for a vehicle occupant restraint.
On interstate highway at highway speed on cruise control. Instant engine stall. Fuel gauge reads 3/8 full. This happened twice in the span of 5 hours. First stall - towed to dealership in bowling green ky. The engine started right up at the dealership. No engine fault codes were available. Dealership blamed it on bad gas. Second stall - same conditions near memphis TN. Aaa added one gallon of fuel, the engine started right up. Was able to continue the trip as long as we kept the fuel above 1/2 tank full. Both incidents could have been a crash had there been traffic, fortunately we coasted to the shoulder.
While driving on highway with cruse control on doing 70 miles per hour, the engine in my Jeep Patriot stalled out completely. The electronic parts of the vehicle stayed on, and I still had power steering. I was able to pull off to the side of the road. I could not start the vehicle for roughly 20 minutes. Then is finally started up. I drove it to the dealership where I bought it. The dealership kept it for three days, and said they found nothing wrong with it. They have insisted everything is fine.
