Jeep Patriot owners have reported 11 problems related to alternator/generator/regulator (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have had to replace 3 alternators throughout the past 2 months due to a electric problem. My battery light became illuminated each time I was on the expressway going around 70 mph. The battery light indicator tells me my battery is not properly charging due to my alternator. This leads to it having a problem with the computer in my car as I was told by my mechanic and that the problem with keep happening until I get another computer which costs a good amount to have replaced or fixed.

Started off by acting as though it wasnt getting gas, (puttering , etc. ) had battery checked. Now sounds as though it is stuck in gear. Several mechanics have verified previous recalls on this Jeep due to the pulley on alternator. Unsafe to drive and suggested no too. Im a single mom with 4 boys and need to be at work but have to be at work. Would need help please!.
When in idle at a traffic light, the Jeep engine shut off randomly with a beeping alarm and red flashing bolt on the dash, required me to turn the key to the off position and restart the car, this has also happened once while vehicle was in motion. Battery is new and both the battery and alternator tested good. When accelerating, braking, or steering, the cabin lights, headlights and dash/radio dim or brighten often slight flickering and some times the interior roof cab lights randomly turn on while driving even when no door is ajar and dimmer switch is turned down or completely off. Appears there is some sort of electrical short or power draw issue. The rear drum breaks continuously squeal, leak and leave rust residue corroding the rims even though I've had them maintained and changed by certified goodyear mechanics.

When driving the car there was a periodic jerk and than it began to loose acceleration. No matter how much I pressed on gas it wouldn't go and than it just died. They thought it was battery so we replaced battery and alternator. Still having issues with the periodic jerk and the battery light now comes on and off. This needs to be looked at.

Car cuts off (engine stall) after starting & driving! first it was hard to start, then it would cut off after starting or putting into drive, finally it cut off on me while driving in the middle of the street (had to be towed)! thank god, I wasn't on a main highway! before the complete shut down, auto zone ran a check on my vehicle for me, showing battery & alternator were fine, but found that the sensor (crankshaft or camshaft) was the problem, with car cutting off! NHTSA shows this to be a problem (vehicle stalling,) with the 2016 Jeep Patriot, but my VIN is not listed. I spoke with my dealer, they acknowledged that was a known problem but not on my VIN#, & that I would need to pay for a diagnostic from them, to prove that is what wrong (can accept information from auto zone)! I am unable to use my vehicle, because of this problem, if this is a known problem with the Jeep Patriot by the dealer & NHTSA, why isn't my VIN# not on the list??.

On 12/28/2016, the front passenger window motor and master switch were replaced by south point Chrysler (sp). They had the car for 9 days since they encountered an electrical problem. Coincidence? provided a rental car thru due to extended warranty. From 1/23/2016 3 alternators have been replaced and 2 batteries by precision tune (pt). The car has the symptoms of stalling/ding and a few minutes/hours later it starts. Since 3/12/2016 I have taken the car to the dealership since electrical components are under extended warranty and secure net warranty only paid a portion of the alternator repair. 3/12-3/16 sp had the car and were unable to reproduce the symptoms, at this point the battery was replaced brought over by pt. On 3/20 after being on the highway and now on a city street the car dies again in the middle of the drive. No response, dead! I was able to pull to the side, get out of traffic lanes and clear the railroad tracks. I walk to make a phone call takes me about 15 min. To return and the car starts again. Now at home, the car does not start back through the evening nor in the morning before I take a ride to work, so it is towed to pt 3/21, and are able to start it without problems, alternator and battery readings, perfect . I take it to sp on 3/22-3/26 and they are unable to reproduce symptoms. On 3/28 car back to sp since I need this problem taken care of because of the dangerous potential it poses. On 3/28 I call chrys, they claim will be sending a star engineer to look into this matter. On 3/31 sp want to return the car, unable to reproduce problem and I find out that they were not informed that an engineer would be looking into the car. On 3/31 after 2 calls to chrys. Informed me that the dealership is the one that makes the request to have a engineer come and inspect the car. I need the car fixed since it poses a danger to me and others, refunds.

The failure mileage was 27,000 and the current mileage was 66,000.
The day after my Jeep was purchased, it would not start. We brought it back to the dealer and were told it was the ignition switch. There were no problems with the Jeep for about 2 years, but then the car started shutting off while we were driving. It would always a cut back on though. Now it will not start at all. The alternator has been changed and so has the battery, but the car still will not even start with a jump.
