Horn Assembly Problems of Jeep Patriot

While driving in heavy traffic, the vehicle suddenly shut off, the steering locked and I was extremely luckily. Immediately after, absolutely nothing happened when turning the key. Also no horn, no lights . . . Nothing. A similar thing happened 2 years ago and the Jeep dealer stated it was a computer issue.

The horn stopped working on this car about five months ago. I looked for a fuse or relay and discovered on the web that this was a common Chrysler problem across all products. I replaced the clock spring which appeared to be identified as most probable problem on the web; not so. Two months ago I went to the dealer and said for $150 they would identify the problem. The horn itself worked, which I tested. I took the steering wheel apart once again and traced the two operational horn wires back to the the steering wheel mounted cruise control module. For grins I went to the local service yard and obtained said module. Replaced the module and now the horn works. First, why would the horn circuit be so convoluted since a relay and fuse was the norm since the 1940's. Second, for safety's sake, the common items needed to be working in a car are horn, lights, brakes; these are common minimum inspection items. Chrysler should make good and repair/ replace cars with this problem because this major failure could have serious consequences because the mindset of most backyard mechanics is that they can fix it and many have conceded failure and have put a horn button on the dash and wired to a better horn , fuse and relay. Check the web and you can see the multitude of traffic on the Chrysler horn problems. I tried to get wiring diagrams for this car which cost $100 but I stopped when I found that they were not complete. I believe that Chrysler like probably all manufacturers have let the electronics take over common sense.

Takata recall our radio stop working, then the horn,then the air bag light came on and stays on. The next thing to go out was the power train control module, Jeep paid for that but we had to pay for the throttle body, which wasn't cheap 573. 00. I met with a Chrysler inspector at a local dealership. Shortly after I received a letter stating that they were not at fault for the issues happening with my Patriot. .

Little by little the electrical to my car has been going. Im the first owner and first the front power windows, then the horn and then the lights stopped working. Then my car started stalling out of no where when I would accelerate. They say its the pcm but I never abused and always took care of my car.

Driving down highway vehicle had sudden loss of all power. Headlamps flickered and everything shut off. Unable to put hazard lights on or use horn to warn oncoming traffic.

My car horn randomly honks on its own at various times. I had logged the incidents for over a month to see if there was any similarities among the incidents and there were none. Speed, outside temperature, turning vs straight driving all have nothing to do with it. The horn will honk short bursts as well as long honks that will stop when I push the steering wheel horn button. There have been numerous times when in a parking lot or at a stop light it goes off and people think I am doing it. I am very afraid that it will cause a road rage incident/accident. I have taken it to the dealer 2 times and my mechanic once. Neither have found any problems with the diagnostics that were run.
