While driving my 2016 Jeep Patriot on multiple occasions, the engine suddenly shuts off without warning. After shutting off the car would also have alot of issues restarting. I finally took it to multiple mechanics and they all indicated they couldn't find out exactly what was the problem, given nothing showed up on their diagnostics testing's. After the car finally wouldn't start anymore, I got it towed to the dealership and they diagnosed the car with failed crankshaft sensor (which has already been recalled on a chunk of the 2016 Jeep Patriots manufactured).

On 3 separate occasions while driving the car will chime and abs, traction control & a third light (I think its the low tire) quickly blinks on and goes off again. The car will still be on and in motion. Today, the car shut off while idle. No lights were on prior and I had been driving for just under 10 minutes. After a period of 2-3 minutes, I tried to crank the engine again and it came on, no lights on dash. I drove to my destination.
My engine light and traction light and red lightning bolt light is on and it’s making the vehicle run really hard and shake and almost stall out and won’t go over 20 miles per hour.

The contact owns a 2016 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle momentarily shut off, causing the vehicle to decelerate unintendedly. Additionally, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Thank you for taking the time to review my inquiry. My 2016 Jeep Patriot has experienced issues with the engine shutting off intermittently while driving at significant speeds and losing control of my vehicle, especially while on the highway. This has created some dangerous situations, which thankfully never caused any harm. After doing some research, I noticed that Jeep had a safety recall for this exact issue "s89 / NHTSA 16v-907, crankshaft camshaft sensor wire harness. " my 2016 Jeep Patriot has experienced failures with the crankshaft position sensor listed in that recall twice now (in September 2022 & December 2024). My VIN # [xxx] ) is not included in that recall, so I was denied reimbursement by the manufacturer both times even though the dealer was able to reproduce the issues both times (see attached receipts). After experiencing this twice, this has been severely disturbing for my family and has caused much anxiety when operating my vehicle. I have attached the associated receipts for the two repairs and summarized them below (both paid with credit card): - September 2022 - maryland auto & truck repair: $1,082. 07 - December 2024 - tate Dodge Chrysler Jeep, inc. : $684. 04 total reimbursement request: $1,766. 11 my belief is that my vehicle should have been included in that recall since it is the same year/make/model listed in the recall. I sincerely hope that NHTSA can honor this request. Thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I have had constant electrical issues with my vehicle ever since I bought it in 2018 and I've had to replace the tipm twice already and it's messing up again! this repair isn't cheap and I feel that Jeep mopar should issue a recall regarding the crappy tipms they put in this particular vehicle. First of all all the warning lights on the dashboard come off and on intermittentally for no reason and now the doors won't lock using the key fob and my horn doesn't work. And now my ac isn't even working and I don't know if it has something to do with the tipm or not? but I'm constantly getting an error on the dash that says no bus communication. I know I can't be the only owner of a 2016 Jeep Patriot latitude 2. 0 that is experiencing these issues. If anyone else had experienced these issues please send a message to the NHTSA so we can get this issue investigated and elevate it into a recall!.
The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that upon entering the vehicle, the passenger’s side active headrest had deployed. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the two plastic clips used to hold the headrest in place were fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 13v282000 (electrical system, air bags), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 16,000. The VIN was not available.
Vehicle at random engage in breaks. This was the problem from day one and is now. I think someone need to be hold accountable for this automatic crap. This is goings-on problem in last 3 vehicle I had. Rustay wearing / display random images on the dashboard. No abs or traction control. This is dangerous when driving, making car unstable on some occasion. Deler refuse to sell me vehicle! please tell me how I can get legal exemption from all electronics I do not need and endanger my live. One more federal law requires mechanical speed limit to be 85mph. Where can I get car that is safe to drive at rinsible price?.
The car will stall while driving, making it tough to keep on the road and very dangerous for a crash. After taking to a Jeep dealership, it was determined the issue is associated with safety recall s89 / NHTSA 16v-907 regarding the crankshaft and camshaft sensors. Unfortunately, my car's VIN was not listed under the recall. I believe this was a mistake as it matches the exact description of car under the recall (this recall applies only to the above vehicles equipped with a 2. 0l (sales code ecn or ect) or 2. 4l (sales code ed3 or ed7) engine built from may 08, 2016 through July 12, 2016 (mdh 050800 through 071216).
The horn stopped working 4 months after purchase I've had it for a year. It has a hard time accelerating when you're hopping on the freeway. There's also a wiring issue with the rear blinkers and taillight it works for a little bit then goes out off and on throughout the trip.
Camshaft and crankshaft position sensors keep failing. I have gotten these replaced at a local auto shop 4 times in the 3 years I've had the vehicle. Each time they're replaced the pcm is flashed but issue comes back a couple days to a week later either when coming to a stop at an intersection or when driving up to 50 miles per hour, the acceleration doesn't work properly and rpms shoot down to zero and back up. Car has also shut off when coming to a stop under 5 mph and sometimes starts up again. Engine light and tcs light both come on when either sensor fails, car runs rough or doesn't start resulting in a tow to a shop. This is a huge safety risk and can cause a crash at any time. VIN does not have recall, but has all the issues described in the recall.
My car has caught on fire with smoke at least 4 times, 3 times with my minor child inside of it. I have video to show you just how dangerous it is. All components of the vehicle have failed. I have put thousands of dollars into the vehicle and it only has 80,000 miles on it. My safety and my son and elderly mother's safety has been at extreme risk and my car is not safe to own or drive. Carl gregory, the dealer, never informed me ever of a 2015 Jeep Patriot recall only three months after I purchased the vehicle while pregnant. The vehicle has been inspected/ worked on by carl gregory and now southern motors Jeep several times over the last 8 years located on middleground road at the corner of abercorn street in savannah, georgia. My insurance company has charged me to tow my vehicle at least six times as my son and I have been stranded all over the city waiting hours for a tow truck. There were no warning lamps on the vehicle prior to it catching fire and I have my car tuned regularly at wal-mart automotive and cleaned at montgomery cross roads car wash once a month. Today the engine stalled and I barely made it out of of the street which is highly dangerous for pedestrians and other drivers on the road. This is probably the 3rd time it has done that. The steering wheel stalls leaving me at the whim of an open road as my car goes out of control. The radio's electrical unit shut down two years ago and the back door does not open. I can't afford to fix those. The brakes were replaced approximately two years after owning it as the vehicle would not slow down during a red light (at the cost of $2,000). I had to veer right. Last November, the car was worked on and the clutch was replaced because it stopped working. One month ago we paid $600 for a new power steering hose to be replaced as it apparently was and continues to leak fluid. This has now been indicated on the dashboard as "hot oil". Currently, I love my car but my family and I are petrified and traumatized.

My car will pull to the right no matter what I do. Tires rotated, air filled, etc it always pulls to the right hard. My electrical system, lights and radio, flicked on and off by themselves one night and now my radio is dead and lights are dim.
The check engine light came on. Checked it at an autozone. The error code was p0335, crankshaft position sensor. On the way to my mechanic, my vehicle stalled three time in 2 miles and had to pull over to a side. I felt lucky there were no vehicles behind me. Took it to a repair shop and the mechanic scanned it again. He told me to take it to a dealer because after entering my VIN, he was notified by his computer system that there is a recall notice out for this VIN. (s89) called a Chrysler dealer but was told that there is no recall by the VIN. Called Chrysler corp and explained the situation. The rep said since the basic warranty expired, the repair service will not be covered under the recall. The engine was keep stalling and I had to repair the vehicle at the mechanics shop. Replaced the crankshaft position sensor and the harness assembly. After the repair, the problem no longer exists. Cost of repair totals $410.
The front turn signals fail continuously as the turn signal units leak and fill with water causing the bulbs to short out. I called one dealer in the past and was told they were not covered by my warranty due to my vehicle's age, it's a 2014. The cost to repair is expensive as you have to access the turn signal unit through the front wheel wells to change the bulbs. The bulbs are inexpensive but the labor is costly due to the labor required. I have had to replace bulbs once every 12-18 months due to this problem. Most recent failures are detailed below, once agin both turn signals have failed.
Had recall “fixed” just to have the supposedly fixed crankshaft sensor go bad and randomly stall when driving. They then say it was repaired even though it is having the same reason from the first recall. The fix is having intermittent electrical failure which causes it to stall with no warning no matter what speed you are going. It happened when I was going 20 and turning and again when I was on the highway driving 70. This is going to cause an accident. They said since the recall was already repaired I’m responsible for it.
There is some sort of electrical issue. Things keep going in and out: internal lights, cruise control, turn signals in front and back go out 6-9 times a year, abs light stays on even after it was serviced, the radio goes in and out. I lose power while driving snd allow the car to sit for a day or two and it cuts back on like nothing ever happened.
No warning lights have appeared; after an oil change, the technician said there is some oil seepage; at start up, the vehicle smells like gas and clicks and start up. The fumes are overwhelming at times. Off and on driving the vehicle clicks 2-4 times then stops. No warning lights are illuminating. The ect had a failure at 67676 mileage the vehicle smelled like gas and would not accelerate, the throttle body was replaced. No recall notice for this failure is listed for this vehicle.
My abs module has gone out, giving me an unsafe Jeep Patriot, now with zero abs or traction control, major issue in tampa driving! apparently, according to the dealer here, they're on "galactic back order" for a few years now; I couldn't even find one at a used parts store in the area. . . Had to resort to ebay, having it installed at the dealership this week, who says they'll install it (janet) but they won't guarantee they can program it and it will reset those dash lights?!?! they can't guarantee it? then something needs to be figured out to guarantee I have a working Jeep, complete with abs and traction control. This is a major, according to several people I've spoken with but there's no recall? if something is on back-order for the dealership for years, something needs to be done, you have Jeep customers riding around unsafely in vehicles they purchased with safety features, feel free to call for more details. Shane shephard 540-355-7777 p. S. I'll have a receipt after I go to the Jeep dealer this week, have it installed with no guarantee, but it'll be in. . . Might not work, but it'll be in. . . And that's good enough?!?!?!?!.
While driving my vehicle on the highway the car turned off and I was unable to steer and/or turn the car back on. After I managed to get to the side of the road and then I managed to get it re-started. I took it to the dealership as it had a check engine light. The crankshaft electrical had thrown a code and I was advised to not drive my vehicle due to safety issues of the car "turning off" again without warning and that it could cause a crash. There were no previous warnings from my vehicle prior to this incident. I was given information from the service advisor for Chrysler recall s89-NHTSA 16v-907 but he stated that my vehicle didn't have that recall attached to it. The service advisor told me to report the issue to the NHTSA to get my vehicle inspected as he feels it should be included in the recall.
Driving normal when I lost control of the throttle Jeep went into limp mode, the etc , traction control, and check engine lights came on, got a uo4o1 code, if I was on the interstate could have been bad when it went into limp mode, the electronic throttle control was bad.
I have a 2016 Jeep Patriot that I purchased with very little miles on it used. Starting about 2 weeks ago I had an incident on the highway going 60mph and it just shut off and lost all power for a few seconds and started back up on its own. When this happened my steering got hard, brakes didnt work properly and could not accelerate. Was very scary and has been doing it more frequently now. This is a serious safety hazard for myself and others around me. I saw that there is a recall s89 for this model but mine is not within the dates and this makes no sense as it is the exact same problem. I ask that you respectfully reissue this recall to include a wider range of dates. Not to mention it is a fairly expensive repair that has to be done and should be taken care of by the manufacturer.
Traction light will come on intermittently and abs and brake lights will flash and go away intermittently and all lights on dash and headlights will dim, radio shuts off, rpms will drop to 0 then go back to normal all while driving. Both camshaft sensors have been replaced twice in under a year. All spark plugs have been replaced twice in under a year as well as the crankshaft sensor. Something is constantly draining my battery (headlights are set on auto and interior lights are always set to off) there was a recall for camshaft/crankshaft wiring but my vehicle was not included in the recall.
Driving normal then suddenly power loss, Jeep went into acceleration then loss of power, the etc , traction control, and check engine lights came on, got a uo4o1 code, I was on the interstate with my son in the car. We were lucky to exit before horrible consequences. The electronic throttle control was bad.
This car keeps shutting off and having overheating issues on and off while driving. I have replaced all pistons, fuel injectors, relays, gaskets, thermostats, hoses, and the catalytic converter. I've seen that over 60,000 cases have been reported about this issue with this vehicle and these vehicles are still being sold used at used car dealers despite the issues being unrepairable. This is a real safety issue as the car stops running with no warning no matter where you are driving. You can see all the same reports on multiple sites online. Why hasn't Jeep done anything about this issue? I know I bought mine used but I'm sure the used car dealer would have never had this vehicle on their lot if it was recalled as it should have been.
Lightning bolt symbol, check engine light and traction control lights came on and vehicle went into limp mode while taking my 3 yr old to pre school. Scans say vacuum leak/throttle body. This is a recurrent problem with these cars and has had recalls on certain ones. Almost didnt make it where I was going. . . Needs to be addresses on this model too. My car only has 76,721 miles.
Over the past year, the car has had 4 crank position sensors, new pig tails/connectors on the wire harness, a new throttle body, and a new mcm. The Jeep will randomly shut off without warning either at stoplights/traffic or on the highway at speed. While at speed, the car will "restart" itself, but if it stalls while stagnant a manual restart is necessary. When the stalling occurs, warning lights do not appear on the dash. Lately, however; the crank position code p0339 has come up with the check engine light. I recently experienced a crank position sensor code followed by a cylinder 3 misfire which caused the car to go into limp mode. Once I replaced the mcm, the misfire went away. Most recently (today) the car stalled in the middle of an intersection while making a left turn; my 2 year old son was in the car with me. Since it was a stop light, the car was able to be restarted in time, but had it been a stop sign/non-stop oncoming traffic, the situation could have been much worse.
While driving down the road at night the headlights and dash lights go off for about a couple of seconds and then come back on. When this started happening the radio also stopped working in the vehicle.
While driving multiple warning lights on the dashboard come on. At times the vehicle will stall and I have to wait 10-15 minutes before it will restart. At times the anti-theft system will wngage causing all interior components and dash lights to go out, I then have to pull over , disconnect the battery and pull the ignition fuse to reset the anti-theft system, after waiting approximately 15 minutes the vehicle will start and operate normally. While driving at times the vehicle will suddenly jerk very hard feeling like I hit a large speed bump, the warning lights on the dash will all come on briefly and the vehicle will resume driving normally. At times the vehicle stalls while idling. While driving with the accelerator pressed the fog lights will flash and the inerior fan will blow at a decreased speed, once the accelerator is released the fog lights glow normally and the interior fan will blow correctly until the vehicle slows below 18 mph at which time the interior fan will again decrease in functioning. This also affects the adapter and charging of my phone as it will not charge properly while plugged into the aux adapter. I believe there is some sort of electrical malfunction. I have replaced the vehicles ecm and crankshaft position sensor, and I am considering replacing the throttle position sensor and throttle pedal assembly. There are no active recalls listed for this vehicle at this time, although any one of these issues could potentially cause an accident with injuries especially on wet or icy road conditions, and given this vehicle is front wheel drive the temporary jolting from whatever is causing the vehicle issues could potentially cause a lose of control resulting in an accident. It should be noted that all of these issues began at approximately the same time period, and after reading through otgher complaints it would appear that there is some sort of significant electrical malfunction in these vehicles. Thank you for looking into this matter.
Vehicle engine stopped while driving. This could lead to potential danger. Started about 1 year ago.
Vehicle stalls and doesn't start. Would also occasionally shake and the check engine light comes on. Throttle body was replaced less than 1 year ago and it is currently not starting due to the same issue. Needs another throttle body. It's the position sensor that seems to go bad due to all the heat generating around it. Both times it really acted up once the weather warned. Unfortunately you can't just replace the sensor, the whole throttle body needs replaced. At $350 each from the factory. Online it seems like a lot of people are having the same problem.
Problems started when the wheel and axel came off the vehicle on a side road 3 years ago. The vehicle dropped a wheel again when crossing the country a month later. Both incidents included my wife and passengers. That at least seems resolved. At 28900 miles or so we have been wrestling for the last year and some with intermittently all the warning lights coming on and now the car will occasionally lose all power while in motion. So we have taken it to the dealership where they say it requires a replacement of the electrical harness. Topping off, the driver seat rest safety mechanism deployed randomly this last week while the vehicle was parked in the driveway.
Stalling without warning, while driving, not throwing an engine code, shops don’t know what’s wrong. Checked every possible reason. Because of unknown failure car will die on freeway, stop lights, leaving an intersection. Very dangerous.
I believe it's the engine or could have something to do with fuel. Car shuts off while in idle, mainly while sitting at a red light it shuts off/down completely. I then have to turn the switch to the on position to recrank it. It starts with no problem at all. Happens almost everyday. I've taken it to have it checked and they can't find any issues. It's been this way since I've gotten the car. Still no one can find the problem.
My Jeep began having a few second stall and restart while driving randomly late 2020. I’m the last 6 months it stalls for longer periods of time but I initially was able to put it in neutral and restart it. About 4 months ago it became more and more difficult to start after I would be forced to pull to the side of the road with no power, hard steering and hard brakes. The check engine light came on at one point. I called the dealership and it was suggested that I take the Jeep in. The diagnostic code indicated the crankshaft position sensor (p0339). But the check engine light wasn’t flashing and it was late in the afternoon so I had to make an appointment to take it back. After 4 days the check engine light went off. The stalling just got very frequent. I would put it in park and turn the ignition repeatedly and after several minutes it would regain power. Just over 1 month ago it stalled in the middle of a busy intersection during afternoon rush hour. It had to be pushed out of the intersection. After more than 10 minutes of continued ignition turns it started and I made it 3 blocks to home and parked it. I had it towed to the same dealership 5 days ago. The crankshaft position sensor has to be replaced. I’ve done research over the last 48 hours and found there was a recall for some 2016 Jeep Patriots for the crankshaft position sensor because it was a safety problem. I’ve checked my VIN number and there has been no recall for this on my vehicle. However, my Jeep Patriot is a 2016 with the exact same problem the the recall was initiated for. Please help me with this if you’re able to. I don’t know where else to turn.
