Jeep Patriot owners have reported 11 problems related to power steering pump (under the steering category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The vehicle will continuously stall and buck while idling for about one minute after filling up with fuel. This has occasionally happened on the road while the vehicle is in motion immediately after leaving the gas station. In these cases, the driver is put in a very dangerous situations, as the steering wheel locks-up when the car stalls. The car is never "topped-off" but filled until the first pump click. After about a minute, the problem will resolve and the vehicle will run fine until the next fueling. The exact cause is unknown, but the evap system or fuel tank rollover-valve is suspected as the culprit. This is an extremely dangerous problem that many other Jeep Patriot owners experience and needs to be dealt with.

This has happened twice now in 3 days. After fully filling my fuel tank and then driving away from the pump my Jeep Patriot stalls before I hit 3/10 of a mile from the gas station. Contrary to some other reports of this issue, that I have read, as well as the explanation of the issue posted on the NHTSA website, from fca, this does not happen only at idle. Rather it happens while I am driving. When my Jeep stalls I also lose the ability to fully steer (can only turn the wheel appx 1/4 turn) and braking does not work as well as it normally does. When it happened today I ended up mounting a curb and sidewalk in a residential area. The street I was on was turning but I couldn't turn with it. If I had not engaged the emergency/parking brake I would have driven through a chain link fence and into a home. Once I restarted my Jeep and backed off of the curb the engine stalled again while my Jeep was in motion. Luckily I was barely moving and already had my hand on the emergency/parking brake. When I restarted my Jeep the next time I revved the engine to 3,000rpm for appx 1 minute while my Jeep was in park. My Jeep did not stall after that for the rest of today. Tomorrow may be another story. I see in this form there is the ability to upload photos but I did not know about this being an existing safety issue or the ability to report it before now. As a result there are no photos of my Jeep on a curb about to crash into someone's house. With the number of reports of this issue having already been made to the NHTSA I am shocked that a mandatory safety recall was not demanded.

Tl the contact called on behalf of his daughter who owns a 2009 Jeep Patriot 4x4. While driving at an unknown speed, it felt as if the vehicle were floating left to right. The steering also turned left to right and right to left, which caused the driver to momentarily lose control of the vehicle. The contact stated that the abs indicator illuminated and flashed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was taken to daystar Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram (330-863-1144, located at 206 s carrollton st, malvern, OH 44644) where it was diagnosed that hard braking locked the brake pedal and caused it to stick to the floor. The technician replaced the brake pump and the abs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the extended warranty expired. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.

Every time I fillup my Jeep I get within 1 mile of gas station it begins to stall. This happened everytime I fill up for the past 5 years. The Jeep will just shutoff and the power steering stops working being that it stalled. This has almost caused me to crash many times and to get the problem fixed Jeep dealership said I would have to replace the entire gas tank. Doing some research lots of people are complaining about this happening to them and being very costly to fix. The item that needs to be fixed is the (fuel tank rollover valve) Jeep doesn't make a replacement part for this and that is why you have to replace the entire fuel tank. Below is a website about the problem https://www. Cargurus. . Read more...
After filling the gas tank the car bucks and the engine dies, forcing loss of steering control and acceleration in traffic. Also, there are difficulties filling the tank with gas - the pump shuts off constantly, about every 1/3 gallon or so, which means it takes about 15-20 minutes to fill the tank. I took it to a mechanic twice and spent more than $300 in attempts to repair this to no avail. I've owned the car for 10 years, it has just about 50,000 miles on it - I bought it new at the dealer.
Everytime wife fills the fuel tank, the engine shuts off. 80% of the time it happens in the intersection leaving the fuel station. She has almost been in numerous accidents because of this problem. She looses power steering as the pump is no longer running because the engine has shut down. Jeep dealer says this is a common safety problem, and that the fuel tank is the culprit. The overflow valve on the fuel tank is faulty. There are numerous complaints with other owners with the same safety issue. This need to be a recall before someone gets killed.

After doing a full refuel of the vehicle the vehicle will stall while in motion, loosing all assisted steering and breaking. The first time this happened engine stalled in mid traffic and I was almost hit by the vehicle behind me on the city. Second time I reached the highway when it stalled this was even more scary. Vehicle will restart after putting in park and stall again a couple of blocks down. This only happens when the tank is filed till gas station pump auto stops. If I fill 3/4 then no stalling occurs. I have read online that this is happening to many Jeep Patriot owners. Some claim that it is related to liquid fuel going into the evap canister and then being sent to the engine when fiecu expects fuel vapors. This issue can cause fatal injuries if engine stalls on the wrong place.
While driving my car will still in the engine dies the car lots of iowa city it doesn't matter where you're going after you put gas in the car he usually doesn't start but now it has started not letting you fill up with gas at stopping the fuel pump like your tank is full and it didn't put any gas in it but it's very dangerous and scary when you're driving down the road and your engine shuts off in the car stalls and locks up. The traction control will come on and it's an able to be turned off after it locks up and stalls and shuts off while you're driving it any speed it doesn't restart.
Over the past several months I am unable to put gas and it it shuts off the pump and usually it doesn't start afterwards but I will be driving down the highway at speed of 65 70 miles per hour the vehicle traction control light will come on the check engine light continues to flash standing in the engine locks up in the car stalls and dies and will not restart very dangerous and very scary.
My car stalls frequently after filling it up with gas. The local dealer has explained to me that the fuel pump sensor is backordered and is unavailable. My car frequently stalls when pulling out of a gas station into traffic. This is a dangerous situation. The car is still under warranty, but the part is unavailable. It is my opinion that my car should be taken off the road until that part it available, but I'm not in a position to replace it with another one.
In a car used only in city roads: - 21000 miles: power steering pump, gear and nuts (Jeep covered) - 32000 miles: left ball joint replaced (Jeep covered) - 45000 miles: right ball joint needs replacement (not covered by Jeep) this has created a lot of additional charges not covered by Jeep like alignment, tires, etc. Jeep liberty was also recalled due to a similar problem. Please consider this problem as from the current list of 37 complains for this car(including this) 24 are for the same problem I am reporting.
