Front cross member (subframe is completely rusted)causing a loud thumping noise when applying brakes or driving over bumps in the road. Very dangerous if the subframe would come completely separated from the vehicles body. (this should definitely be a recall and why it hasn't been is a real mystery to me. This is not an isolated problem. Every Patriot owner I have talked to seem to have the same problem. Chrysler is aware of this too. I am expressing my deep concern on this matter and I know that there won't be a [xxx] thing done about it. I will be left with fixing this [xxx] on my own. In the meantime I refuse to let my wife drive the [xxx] thing until it is fixed. Chrysler should be held accountable for this defect but I'm sure that they won't. Wife bought this vehicle brand new in 2011 against my better judgement. But she's the one that paid for it. Now I'm paying for it in repair costs. This is a safety issue! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Patriot. Bought a used 2010 Jeep Patriot a month and a half ago with less than 20,000 miles on it and no apparent problems. Drove my car on December 29th after coming back from christmas vacation and was greeted by a waterfall coming out of my map light. After stopping, also discovered a lake of water behind the drivers seat. Since I discovered this late in the day that Saturday, and the new year's holiday was the beginning of the week, I couldn't get my car into the dealership for service until Thursday. In the mean time, it rained again and I had yet another water disaster to deal with.
Just purchased the 2009 Jeep Patriot for my son, it rained and it is leaking water in the dome lights and behind the accelerator. I am scared there will be electrical damage as well as mold and mildew. I have started looking up issues online and have found many people having the same issues. Shouldn't Jeep be held responsible????.

After snow has melted, the maplight leaks water all over the inside. I'm concerned that there will be wiring issues for the sunroof and the light as well as anything in the dash due to the water going everywhere. Prior issues w/water leaking in the firewall and leaving an inch of water on the drivers floor (3 attempts to get it fixed) resulted in Chrysler paying a portion due to being out of warranty. Water shorted out wires running under the floor for dash lights, anti lock brakes wanted to kick in driving down the road, 4wheel drive woudl not work and the cruise control would not work. Now back to dealing w/water again leaking out the map light, very frustrated and angry!.
When I get up to speeds between 50-60mph, I feel outside air coming through the steering wheel column. This winter it's been extremely cold and I'm needing to move my hands towards the top of the steering wheel to avoid the cold air leaking in. When I make sharp turns between 25-45mph, I get more cold air coming in as if I opened a window. I need to crank up the heat in order to avoid getting cold myself. I am forced to hold the steering wheel a certain way to avoid the cold air. I took it to a dealership who said OH it's the windshield, so they replaced that. In the meantime I drove a 2011 caliber home and it was even worse, there was so much air leaking out from the steering wheel and the sun roof was leaking air as well. I told this to the manager (jerk) [xxx] who said well that's the way they are made. Well it wasn't the windshield, the manager [xxx] at roberson said that's how the vehicles are made. I really think this is factory defect, there should be no outside air coming into a 2010 Jeep Patriot at high rate of speed unless a window is open. I am very upset that I even bought this Jeep, because bottom line service men are mean. When I sat at roberson waiting for my Jeep there were 3 other women waiting for their vehicles and they had complaints. This is a safety issue, because I'm being forced to hold the steering wheel a certain way, cranking up the heater full blast to counter act the cold air leaking in(creates a loud noise unable to hear traffic) and my thighs are freezing by the time I get to work. God, summer is going to be a nightmare!!! thanks t&c in wilsonville for selling me a defective vehicle. I want this issue fixed or give another Jeep Patriot that doesn't have this issue. . . . . This is wrong I drove my Honda civic for 12 years never had any problems. . . I kick myself for buying this vehicle. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Patriot 4x4. The contact fell asleep while driving at an unknown speed and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle was declared destroyed and towed to a salvage lot. The contact stated that the roof separation was a severe safety risk. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileage was 60,000.
2007 Jeep Patriot
interior water leak from map lights and a posts after rain or washing. Evidently a major problem with Jeep Patriot and other Jeep models. So far, no recall, but dealers can not fix it. Once there is enough water inside on the floor boards and in head liner the mold problems begin. When moving the water comes through the map lights and a post like a waterfall, splashing on dash and seats, etc.

Rear light/flashlight leaks when it rains! I have had it fixed 5 times and it has never been fixed! I'm getting very annoyed over this problem. I looked online and I see that I am not the only one that has had and is still having this problem. I'm not a happy customer of this model now. Very poor when no one can fix the problem!.
I purchased a new 2009 Jeep Patriot on 7/10/09 and paid cash. On 8/20/09 I took it to the dealership with 2,563 miles on it because water was pouring into the dash, radio, and onto me while driving after a rainy night. They adjusted sunroof glass and resealed open seams in sunroof fame and said it was fixed. On 9/10/09 I took it back to dealership with 3,316 miles on it for the same exact problem of water pouring from the dome light all over the dash, radio, and me again after another rainy night. They replaced sunroof glass weatherstripping and said it was fixed again. On 11/17/10 after a very long hard rain I took it back to dealership with 18,706 miles on it with water pouring from the dome light and from the rear dome and from the passenger side rear door area. The carpet was soaked and the dome light had stopped working. They repositioned drain tubes and replaced sunroof glass and seal. In the process they broke our headliner but agreed to order another one for us. On 12/14/10 after another hard rain I took it back to dealership with 19,604 miles on it with water pouring from headliner at the passenger rear door area and soaking the carpet. While at dealership they installed a new headliner which does not fit properly by the windshield. They claimed that they could not make the roof leak on that visit. They lost two of the plugs that went into the headliner, causing us to have to make an extra trip to their shop. My wife and I have really been put out with all this. Chrysler's solution is for us to upgrade to a new higher priced Chrysler product. I hope that all of the moisture doesn't create a mold hazard for our infant grandchildren that ride in this vehicle. I have smelled a musty smell from time to time.
Have water leaking into interior of vehicle through map/front dome light and front vehicle frame for third time since September 2009. Water pours from the map/dome light down onto front console and driver and passenger.
Water leaking under the dash which causes the gas and brake pedals to become very slippery. It is also a horrible distraction since it happens on every turn or hill. There is also a horrible clunking noise that is coming from the front end of the car that has been reported as the a arm bolts but they continue to ignore the service bulletin just because my VIN # is not included in the list of cars but my make and model as well as the year is included.
The contact owns a 2010 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that everytime it rained, the vehicle accumulated water on the inside and mold was forming. The contact stated that the water was getting into the vehicle through the interior lighting in the rear of the vehicle. The contact called the manufacturer who advised her to take the vehicle to the local dealership. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The current mileage was approximately 21,810. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000. Updated 12/23/lj updated 01/04/jb.
My 2008 Jeep Patriot has been in the shop a collective 18 times over 87 days. It is currently still in the shop since last week. I have had it in 9 times for the sunroof leaking and 7 times to replace electrical items that shorted out because of the leaking sunroof. It first started to have this problem after 3 months 8/2008 and 2700 miles. I am tried of the dealership asking to give them one more try for the last year and a half. They keep blowing me off. As of 1/29/10 it back in the shop again for a leaking sunroof. I talked to the service manager at the dealership and he stated that they have tried and replaced everything in the sunroof assembly and it still leaks and is ruining my electrical system, my leather seats and carpeting. I do not want this vehicle to have and electrical fire down the road with all the issues it is continuing to have. Please help!.
Immediately after purchasing the 2009 Jeep Patriot an interior water leak was discovered. I have a receipt for visits to dealer on 11/3/09 with 2282 miles on it. Next visit was 11/17/2009. Another visit on 1/6/10 with 5790 miles on it. Another visit on 9/14/10 at 12170 miles. Yet another visit on 9/24/10 at 12435 miles. Again on 12/7/10 at 14897. I know there were a couple of other visits and I am awaiting print out from service department. It has been to the dealer over 7 times for this problem. Everytime they say it is fixed only to discover it is still leaking. They have sealed, caulked, check drain tubes, etc. They have replaced headliner too. Water comes into the overhead electrical system and runs out of the overhead lights like a faucet or waterfall. Water ponds on the rear cargo area and this area is completely soaked. Water is even down in spare wheel storage. Water comes from all overhead lights depending on pitch of vehicle. Unknown if water is running down interior sides of vehicle or where else water is pooling. Concerned about mold, rust, water damage, electrical problems, etc. , that are being caused by water entering vehicle. Dealership has "fixed" it numerous times only to not have it fixed. Vehicle is scheduled for return visit to dealer for another attempt at fixing this problem. Vehicle repairs have been covered by warranty but I am very concerned about the longterm damage and repairs needed after warranty expires and the damage the water is causing to my vehicle. Service techs say don't worry about the water, but this is a serious problem.
Rain water leaks into the interior of the vehicle and finds its way down to the spare tire well which fills with several inches of water. Mold and mildew form in that area.
I purchased a 2009 Jeep Patriot on August 1st and after it rains I have water pouring from the dome light as I approach a stop sign. Well, I nearly ran into some one due to the water raining down on me. I have googled the problem and to my dismay, numerous people have had this problem to the point of enacting state lemon laws. This is a problem that really needs attention.
The sunroof leak has been an ongoing problem since we bought the Jeep, new. It's been "repaired" several times. They blow out the drain lines and tell us not to park near any trees. Then I take it to the carwash and it leaks again. They tell us not to spray the water to direct at the roof. Water gushing through my dome light has washed down through the dash console and now my hands free (u-connect) is malfunctioning. The service dept, charged me to look at it and supposedly fixed it. It's still does not work properly. All the console buttons are sticking. This problem started when the Jeep had a warranty package. Now that it's no longer under warranty, they charge me to "put a bandaid" on it and tell me stay out of the woods. . . With my Jeep!!!! when is Chrysler going to take responsibility for this?.
2008 Jeep Patriot leaking moon/sun roof - leaks of water from rain or condensation from map/dome lights causing a fire hazard. Water leaks and pours from front dome light onto dash and radio.
I have a 2008 Jeep Patriot, my Jeep started leaking from the map light, dome light and cargo light the water ran into my a/c unit and my cd changer, gear shift, glove compartment and all over my carpet and seats, in sept. Of 2009 after a heavy rain we were in a drought until then. I got the car back and the dealership said the leak was fixed, they said they had to connect the drain tubes. Once I got my car back I noticed after another rain I had water standing in my tire well once again, after the last leak my car started stalling on take off. I was entering onto a very busy street and it stalled as I was pulling out and almost got hit by a dump truck. I once again took the Jeep back to the dealer to have it fixed, they replaced the sun roof seal and the seals around the hatched, they said it was fixed. After another rain I noticed my Jeep is leaking again, when I turned on the a/c water started coming out of the defrost vent and my carpet was wet, and a strong smell of mold coming out my vents with the air. I took it back into the dealership and told them about the leak, and the water and smell of mold coming out of my a/c vents. I looked over the car with the service manager and we noticed black mold growing in the head liner she also was able to smell the mold coming out of my a/c unit. I also noticed that my car was cutting out again while driving. I am very concerned about a fire or some other major electrical part going out due to the water leaks that have occured. I am also worried about safety issues concerning the car stalling; and am worried it is going to cause an accident or health issues due to the black mold.
During heavy rain water enters the vehicle through the roof causing leakage to occur through the maplights and front pillars. The car has been in to the shop three times - the dealer has "sealed a body seam", "reseated the windshield" and "could not duplicate" the leak however, when it was brought in, water was dripping and they did acknowledge that it was due to some kind of leak. After a lengthy talk to the service manager after the third visit, he indicated that he had never seen this before but found a "tech tip" indicating that the roof did leak. After searching the internet, it certainly seems that I am not alone with this problem.
1. Rained outside 2. Failure is of Chrysler's nonexistent customer support, poor product, and engineering. Problem is well documented, please go to www. Jeeppatriot. Com, search forum for "water leak. " or simply google "water leak Jeep Patriot. " this is my particular thread. As you can see. . . Water is falling out like a waterfall. . Read more...
Water leaks through dome lights, shorting out electrical system.
Water leaking into my front dome light and all over my stereo and dash.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Patriot 4x4. While driving greater than 40 mph with both rear windows opened, the undercarriage of the vehicle shakes violently. The contact is unable to see oncoming traffic through the side mirror and the noise is unbearable. The manufacturer took a report and stated that the vehicle was designed in that manner; therefore, they would not assist. The dealer agreed with the manufacturer and found no failures. The failure mileage was 4,506 and current mileage was 5,622. Updated 09/25/08 updated 09/26/08.
Recurrent water leak through the interior cargo area light/flashlight. The interior light is flooded with water when it is raining or when the car is washed. The water accumulates inside the light and drips to the cargo area. The rear door rubber was changed and a roof seal was repositioned. The dealer has tried to fix the water leak 3 times. I am afraid a fire or short circuit can occur, when the vehicle is in use.
Headliner is loose in my 2008 Jeep Patriot. Slaps violently against roof. Noise is so loud, it sounds like a helicopter (no exaggeration). This happens when a window is down while driving. To an unsuspecting driver, this is very dangerous. It scared me the first time it happened. My six year old daughter was in the back seat as I was taking her for her first ride in my brand new car, she put the back window down and this loud helicopter noise came out of nowhere. I literally jump in my seat as I was driving. I could have very easily wrecked the car from the scare of the sudden noise overhead. This is also potentially damaging to your ears (it is that loud). Chrysler / Jeep refuses to fix it because all 2008 Jeep Patriots have the "same design flaw" (yes they admit it). I have complained to the bbb (Chrysler doesn't agree to arbitration with the bbb), the attorney general (ohio and michigan), and even contacted an attorney. I am being told that since Chrysler refuses to even make an attempt to repair it, that it doesn't qualify for the lemon law. I explained the problem to my father over the phone, then took him for a ride in it several weeks later to demonstrate. My father couldn't imagine that it could be that bad no matter how I tried to word it. After the demonstration my father was in total shock and disbelief. He even complained that it hurt his ears after just a few seconds of riding in the car. My point is, you have to see/hear it to fully appreciate the severity. I am willing to take anyone for a ride in the vehicle to demonstrate the problem. I've owned the car since April and have only driven it for about three weeks.
When parked in my driveway, at a slight incline, in the rain, the car leaks rain. The water fills the rear ceiling lamp and then spills out into the back of the vehicle. When significant rainfall occurs, the well for the spare tire has filled with several inches of water. This has created a situation for mold to grow, a mildewy smell, and I have concern about the water in the lamp. Vehicle was brought to dealership after first occurance and was "fixed", but during the next storm, it happened again. It's currently at the dealership awaiting repair for the second time. First occurance: 12/18/07 second occurance: 1/5/08.
