Electric Power Assist Steering System problems of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Three problems related to electric power assist steering system have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Electric Power Assist Steering System problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2008

I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x, automatic with 10,500 miles. I was traveling down an on ramp going about 40mph, light on the throttle and the Jeep hesitated, all of the gauges (speedometer, etc) shut off (showed 0), then all of the dash lights came on. During that 2 second period, I had no power steering, brakes or control over the throttle of the Jeep. This could have been much worse. I know there is a recall that covers this, but my Jeep falls out of the production date to get it taken care of. The "build" date is Feb. Of 2007. I am not the only one with the problem and the current recall is not taking care of this issue. This needs to be address before someone (like my family) gets seriously hurt. . Read more...

2 Electric Power Assist Steering System problem

Failure Date: 04/20/2007

I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4dr 4wd that has stalled twice while traveling at highway speeds. The vehicle has less than 6,000 miles and I've reported the problem to the dealer and they say they can't find anything wrong with it. The first occurrence occurred during the day while traveling at approximately 65mph for over an hour. The vehicle cut out, all the dash lights came on, I lost power steering, and within 3 seconds the vehicle "re-started" itself on its own. The second occurrence occurred several months later while traveling at 70mph for over an hour. The incident occurred at night and the same thing happened. All the sudden the engine cut out, I lost headlights, and within 3 seconds the vehicle came back on and everything was fine. Again, I reported to the dealer, at they couldn't find anything.

3 Electric Power Assist Steering System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2007

2007 Jeep Wrangler engine stalls and loss of electricity and power steering. This happened 2 times. Vehicle was driving under 50 mph for both instances. In both instances, the stall/loss of electricity/loss of power steering lasted for only about 1 second.
