Ten problems related to steering tie rod assembly have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I was traveling on the freeway yesterday afternoon 11/1/12 driving at 60 mph. While driving out of no where the Jeep's front end started shaking out of control. It felt like the front end was about to fall off. . I could not control the Jeep at this point so I stepped on my brakes and slowed the vehicle to about 20 mph before the shaking stopped. Today I took it in to a local alignment shop so they can diagnose it and they told me that the whole front steering assembly is about shot! they specifically said that the most wear was on the tie rods and front track bar in which will cause the geometry of the steering to be thrown off. They called it the "death wobble" and that it was common in these Jeeps. I truly think that Jeep needs to open a recall for these parts ( front track bar/ tie rod assembly) before some one is killed! I do not want to think about what would of happened if I didn't gain control of the vehicle yesterday. I could of caused a pile up and killed someone if not myself on i5. . Thank god my kids were not with me and no accident occured. Please assist in this complaint as there has been hundreds of complaints about this very same problem all over the web yet nothing has been addressed with Chrysler. Thank you. While driving down the road at about 40-45mph my right front tire hit a bump. When that happened the entire front end began to vibrate violently. The only thing that cured the issue was to brake the vehicle. Once it got down to about 15mph it finally stopped and I was able to continue. This has been an ongoing issue with this Jeep. This has happened before and the dealership replaced tie rods and a steering dampener but it's never gone away completely.
Steering/suspension. We have had issues with excessive wobbeling and swaying of our Jeep. Believe this to be premature failure of the tie rods and stabelizing system. This has been very dangerous. Fuel system: gas will shoot out of the tank spilling fuel on the outside of the vehicle when fueling.
We purchased this Jeep in September 2011 for our granddaughter and within one month after purchasing it she was driving on the highway about 60 mph when the front end began shaking violently and she was bareley able to slow down, at which time the shaking quit. This same incident has been occuring sporadically ever since so we took it to a tire shop/mechanic and they replaced the shimmy shock and checked the tires at a cost of $201. 22 on 6 October. The vehicle continued to shake on occassion so we took it back to the repair shop on 17 October and they suggested changing out the outer tie rod ends to see if that works at a cost of $184. 46, but would not guarantee that it would solve the problem. I have since "googled" the words "death wobble" on the internet and have found that this is a common problem with the Jeeps but apparently Chrysler is not acknowledging that is a problem and most people are spending around $1000 in hopes of fixing the problem although it sounds like the only solution is to trade it in and let someone else deal with the problem. We went to visit family over the weekend in arkansas and the shaking was fairly frequent and now the granddaughter is afraid to even drive the vehicle. I would like to know why this vehicle is allowed to stay on the road since it is a hazard to not only the vehicle driver and passengers but to other vehicles on the road since the only way to stop the shaking is to stop rapidly on the road toally disregarding cars in front or behind you. I would also like to see some stats on vehicle accidents, specifically rear end collisions involving Jeeps.
The steering is defective it allows the vehicle to violently shake and you lose control. I almost ran into a concrete wall along the interstate. I was accelerating up an entrance ramp and the vehicle began shaking so violently the hood was separating from the body I estimate at least 6" off side to side shake. I could not steer, just try to hold the steering wheel straight and allow the vehicle to slow down. The ball joints, tie rod joints, and track bar must be replaced.
I have a 2007 Jeep sahara 4x4, and have had the death wabble over ten times. The dealer said put on after market streering stab, and that did not fix it they put on a new tie rode and that did not fix it, now there saying because I tow my Jeep behind my RV thats whats causing the streering stab to go bad. The dealer is lumpe Dodge in visalia California.
As I was traveling on 95 towards baltimore I hit a bumpy patch in the road, my 2007 Jeep Wrangler4 door started shaking violently and became uncontrollable. It felt as though all four tires were about to fall off. It was quite difficult to control the Jeep and I barley made it to the shoulder with out hitting another car. The next day it happened again traveling about 45 mph. I then took it to the dealership and they replaced the tie rod and the steering chassie with "reengineered parts" this violent shaking is commonly known as "death wobble" and there are countless documented instances of this in testimonial and video form on the internet. The Jeep dealership said "OH you have the death wobble" but after contacting Chrysler they knew nothing of this problem and will refused to pay for the repairs the Jeep was just barley out of warranty. This is an extremely dangerous defect with this vehicle. The Jeep is out of control until it comes to a stop.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle vibrated. No warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer for diagnosis. The dealer stated that the front suspension and tie rods needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacture had not been notified. The failure mileages was 50,000 and the current mileages was 110,000.
Drive a 2007 4-door Wrangler. Within 6 months of purchase, hit a small bump going around 50 mph on highway. Car steering vibrated uncontrollably moving about 2-inches side to side. No shoulder available (caused other cars to swerve away from me) but after breaking, it eventually stopped. Asked dealer service workers (while it was being looked at for second recall for computer/breaks) why this was happening, they claimed "that is what Jeeps do". Happened 4 more times until a witness from the road pulled me over to tell me "he thought my right front wheel was going to come off. " Jeep claimed to have never heard of it before. (there are website about "death wobble" everywhere). Brought to dealer, fixed tie rod. Happened again, said it might be a bad tire. Will be at my expense. Called tire manufacturer, to start a file.
2007 Wrangler 4- door unlimited. Popping felt through both steering column and gas/brake pedals when going over small bumps. No violent shaking like described in others. . . Just a very uncomfortable popping. The popping has become increasingly more noticeable over a period of about 3,000 miles. The popping is now audible. It has been at Jeep 3 times so far, with the only solution being to replace the tie rods to no avail.
