1 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2018

I was driving down a merge lane coming off of northbound highway 65 in springfield missouri entering onto james river freeway on 2/19/2018 when my Jeep steering wheel started shaking violently. I pulled off the road and then drove very slowly for approximately 1 mile to park at my place of employment. I had to tow Jeep. I would describe this as the "death wobble" that seems to be a not so uncommon issue with Jeeps. I have high mileage, but replaced engine due to another Jeep issue, so approximately 70000 miles on new engine.

2 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

At 60 mph my Jeep started violently shake. I had to pull off the interstate in the emergency lane. This has happened over 10 times. I took it to the dealer and he said ball joints and steering damper was bad. $1,100. 00 to fix it. It is still not steering correctly. There is a popping in the steering wheel and shakes somewhat when I hit a bump in the road. This is very dangerous. I had no idea there was a death wobble in the Jeep I loved so much. I will be trading the Jeep for a different SUV after I get the wobble fixed again. I am expecting a grand baby in Dec and there is no way I will put it in the Jeep.

3 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2014

Was driving in normal road and weather conditions on I-680. Vehicle started violently shaking side to side, the steering wheel was shaking out of control. I was in extremely heavy traffic and had to slow down to about 30 mph for the shaking to stop. This is the third time this has happened since the first of the year. I took the vehicle for repair after the second incident to have steering parts replaced, but it did not remedy the incident. I am extremely scared to drive the vehicle - especially with my wife and three kids.

4 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2014

Was driving down highway at 55 mph when the vehicle all the sudden started shaking violently. The steering wheel was shaking out of control, the front wheels were rapidly going back and forth. I had no control over the vehicle and nearly went off the road. I had to slow the vehicle down, in traffic, to about 35 before the shaking stopped. About 5 miles later down the road it happened again. I once again had to slow the vehicle down to stop the issue. The weather conditions were normal, the road conditions were good. After the incident, I took the vehicle to a repair shop and had some steering parts replaced.

6 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2013

I was driving at a steady speed of approximately 35, the steering wheel began to vibrate, and within seconds the steering was shaking so badly that I had to bring the car to a complete stop. After resuming my speed, the car was no longer shaking. Since that time, I experience a slight to moderate shake at all speeds, and experience the "death wobble" almost daily at various speeds. I have followed all recommendations as far as tire rotation is concerned, as well as alignment when tires were purchased. I have since found the recent Chrysler TSB regarding the death wobble, and am currently having the vehicles suspension and wheels checked. I want it on record that this vehicle is experiencing this problem daily.

7 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2012

As I was driving through the entrance to the baltimore harbor tunnel, I hit a bump and the steering wheel began to shake violently on my Jeep Wrangler. In addition, the front end of the vehicle vibrated and shook violently. I had no place to stop, a bus was behind me, and I had trouble keeping my Jeep in one lane. Since there was no place to pull over, I slowed down and when I reached a speed between 15 to 20 miles per hour, the shaking stopped and I was able to continue on. During my trip that day, I had three more episodes of violent shaking as I hit bumps in the road when I was traveling between 50 and 60 miles per hour. I had recently read an article about this problem and this issue appears to be a common problem for Jeep Wranglers, although I had never experienced the problem before. My Jeep is a 2007 4-door Wrangler which only has 10,400 miles on it because I usually keep it garaged at a beach home in delaware and I use it only during summer weekends. The Jeep is a stock model with no after market modifications. I had driven it home to maryland to have a dealer checkup before I returned the Jeep to the beach. The problem happened on my third trip after the dealer service but it was my first trip driving on a highway. My daughter was in the car with me and she and I were extremely disturbed and consider this issue a major safety issue. Since my research indicates this is a widespread problem, I feel strongly the ntsb should take the appropriate action to have Chrysler address this issue before there is a fatality. I am extremely thankful that the bus behind me in the baltimore harbor tunnel had good brakes.

8 Steering Wheel Vibrate problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2011

While traveling on interstate at posted speeds every rough patch of roadway or going over a bridge (bump entering or exiting bridge) the steering wheel would shake violently. I would let off gas, gently apply brake and pull onto shoulder to get control back of vehicle. Sometimes I would have to come to a complete stop before the shaking would stop other times between 5 to 20 mphs the shaking would stop. This was a 300 mile trip home, I reduced speed to see if this would decrease the effects, it seem to help where roads were smoother but happened nearly just the same. The vehicle is equiped with electronic stability control which never activated. It has happened numerous time since Dec 17 2011.

2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited - front end shakes violently at or above 55 mph after hitting small bump in road. Steering wheel shakes back and forth violently, feels like wheels are goign to fall off or car will flip over - complete loss of control unless you slow down to 35mph - which is not easy to do on the highway in traffic. This occurs almost daily. To date we have replaced the track bar, replaced the tires, had the vehicle re-alligned and tires balanced. Next step is to replace the steering stabilizer. So far no permanent fixes.
