23 problems related to horn assembly have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Tl the contact's wife owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving the vehicle at various speeds, the horn sounded independently without driver input. Additionally, the interior and exterior lighting flickered on and off. The contact also stated that the engine would turn on independently without warning. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who informed him that the vehicle had a defective totally integrated power module (tipm). The mechanic then informed the contact of NHTSA campaign number: 07v291000 (electrical system) which was linked to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was informed that that VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 185,000.
While driving approaching a stop light in town the wipers came on, windshield fluid started spraying, horn was blaring and engine stalled. The 2nd time I was on a highway going 55 mph and the same exact thing happened I coasted in a subdivision started the engine back up and this time when I got home I could remove key and the engine would continue to run. I think the problem is the tipm because while the christine effect is going on I can tap the tipm cover and it stops.
The vehicle will not shut off. Drove it into the carport turned off the ignition and the vehicle would not stop running, even with the key turned off and removed from the ignition. . . All gauges were randomly turning on and off, and the horn was intermittently blaring. The vehicle was stationary at the time.
First the windshield wipers stopped working (changed motor and controls) then the horn stopped working, then the blinker and lights along with the instrument panel. Switched the panel and finally the tipm which fixes all issues. Vehicle continued to run but parked it until after reinstalling the tipm.
Tipm electrical issue. Causing inoperable turn signals, parking lights, horn, power window on drivers side, and sometimes, doest start of turn over. Auto repair shop says it needs a tipm replacement.
I was driving down the road and the horn started blowing and would not stop, the windshield wipers started wiping at high speed, windshield washer fluid was squirting out, and would not stop. I turned the vehicle off and issues kept happening. The gauges and speedometer stopped working at this time. Luckily I was pulling in my driveway.
Multiple times yesterday, starting with (which I thought nothing of initially) the traction control light turning on while the Jeep was in park not moving. Shortly there after while driving straight on a highway about 45-55 mph a knock or clunk was felt beneath the floor, immediately followed by the eas, traction control, abs and brake lights illuminated, the airbag light flashed, the wipers running even though they were off, a hard pull to the right and high running/increasing rpm's on a level road with my foot off the accelerator. I hit the hazards, pulled off the road, looked at, in and under the Jeep, nothing looked amiss. My husband took over the drive, made it roughly 8-10 miles with out issue and than again everything above but in addition this time the horn blared for probably 2 minutes, if not more, he pulled over shut it off turned it on we went home, waited about 2 hours, drove about 15 blocks city roads with hills and turns less than 25mph round trip and nothing happened. Might be worth mentioning, for the last month or so in high heat 80 degrees and up, it hasn't been starting the first few turns, but the battery is less than 6 months old.
My 2007 Jeep jku sahara will completely shut down and stall at any given time while I am driving at any speed. The wipers and horn will go off even when in the "off" position, followed by the engine stalling. My wheels will lock up and I cannot give the vehicle gas. I can only brake and slightly turn off to the side of the road. This is extremely dangerous because there is no telling when it will happen. Recall for tipm has already been "reprogrammed" and apparently there are no power modules available. The dealership told me that if a certain code does not pop up, that I will have to replace everything on my own. Well, how am I suppose to do that when there are no power modules available? this problem needs to be fixed ASAP.
The horn will not work and the air bag light chimes off and on. And now I have intermittent starting issue. I can drive up the road and cut it offand then get back in and it won't start. But wait about 10 minutes and it'll start right up.
Upon starting vehicle, horn sound constant, wipers turn on, windshield sprayer squirts, back up light turn on and drivers side headlight illuminates. Turned off ignition and removed key, dashboard lost power, but engine continued to run, disconnected battery and approximately 90 seconds later, engine quite running.
Headlights began flashing, horn honking, and door locks would not respond. Could not disable horn with key fob as usual. This has happened multiple times in the last few weeks. The Jeep dealer says that it is a faulty tipm (totally integrated power module).
Clockspring failure disables horn and airbags.
When driving at a speed of 40 mph the Jeep's dash lights came on, the horn started blowing, the windshield wipers came on, the locks went on and off and the car stalled. This has happened numerous times over the past year and a half at different speeds, while idling, and different weather conditions.
Clock spring recall for air bag failure on 07 Wrangler, mine is doing the very same but no recall on my Jeep. This is an extreme safety hazard and I would expect a defective part to be replaced not at my cost. I thought I was buying dependability but now my family is at risk. Blinker, horn no longer work, air bag light comes on.
Vehicle stalled while driving. First the horn goes off, then all lights on the dash board go off, then it finally stalled. Took it to the dealer 2x and both times was told nothing wrong. Why is the Jeep dealership, the ones that should know the vehicle better than any other mechanic, tell me there is nothing wrong when there clearly is a problem? I'm concerned for my safety and cannot drive the car until its fixed. The only problem is that the dealership is charging me $100 each time and telling me there is nothing wrong.
This has occurred while driving and while keys were not even in the ignition. I was driving down the road and the horn started honking, wipers went off and windshield fluid started spraying every where. It has done it several times. It has also done this just when opening the doors and no keys in the ignition. It blinks through the gears on the transmission and has locked up the traction control. I have had it in to the dealership several times and it is just now possibly diagnosed with tipm. Im part of a Jeep club in which we have an online forum and this in not just happening to my Jeep its happening to many Jeeps and I feel its a major safety concern. Chrysler has paid for several of the Jeeps on the forum, so far they haven't paid for mine but I think this issue really needs to be addressed.
I took my wife's 2007 Jeep Wrangler jk (4 door automatic) to courthouse shell here locally to get the state inspection done (my first time for this since purchasing it on July 1st 2012 from checkered flag Toyota in greenbrier). I received a call saying that the horn did not work, what did I want to do? my wife had said that it had been working the previous week. Well, I said that I want it fixed. The mechanic showed me that the fuse in the fuse-box was not getting any power and they needed more time to troubleshoot it, so they kept it overnight, they then incorrectly said it was a simple relay which they would order and receive later that second day, and they finally figured out that the air bag and the horn were incapacitated due to a faulty $269 airbag clockspring assembly which had to be special ordered from a dealership, so they ended keeping it over the weekend, the steering wheel had been disassembled and would cost more in labor to reassemble. Another option given that he explained to me that he could run a jumper wire to a pushbutton switch to make the horn work but the airbag would not be guaranteed to function as needed in an accident. I made the safe decision to have them replace the entire assembly. I was quite upset though to have to dish out $389. 75 total for parts and labor. I have the receipt to show it in the event that Jeep ever decides to recall that flimsy and unsafe assembly. There seems to be many complaints lodged regarding this same issue online. Considering that this issue not only affects the horn but also the airbag system which was unknowingly disabled for a week or so, the safety of the driver should always be paramount. Thank god that my wife did not have an accident, the airbag would most likely not have deployed. I will be taking this up with Jeep.
Clock spring premature failure. Causes horn to not work and air bags likely won't function either.
6 months prior, vehicle would randomly not start. Noticed corrosion on battery, cleaned and replaced connection parts. It worked fine until today. Power locks went out. Checked fuse, was blown. Noticed more corrosion on battery on opposite side this time. Tried replacing fuse and it blew as we were replacing it (sparks coming out of connection, melting a prong). Cleaned off battery corrosion and got absolutely no power to the vehicle when tried to start it. Cleaned in between battery/wire connections and when reassembling the horn, wipers, coolant fan, and lights would randomly go on & off. Vehicle would randomly have power to start, then would not work again. Ended up towing it to dealer, without power. Currently waiting for diagnosis.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. The vehicle was parked and shut off when the horn began to sound. After approximately two minutes, the horn stopped. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired. The contact also noticed that the seat belt light would illuminate and alarm system would sound intermittently. The current and failure mileages were approximately 45,000.
While sitting in the driveway, the horn began beeping on its own for a few seconds at a time and then stop. I eventually disconnected the horn completely. A few days later, the airbag light came on a blinked intermittently. It still does it to this day. Jeep only has 50,000 miles on it. I took it to the dealership and was told it was a bad clock spring. I also heard of other Jeeps having the same problem.
The "clock spring" failed in my 2007 Jeep Wrangler rubicon. The "clock spring" is the device within the steering wheel hub that the electricity passes through allow in the airbag, horn, and cruise control to work when the steering wheel is being turned. When the clock spring fails these items do not work. The service writer at keffer Jeep in charlotte north carolina, 704-532-1050, explained there is more than 500 back ordered and it will be up to a year before the part arrives. This means there are currently more than 500 Jeep of all models (all model Jeeps use the same clock spring) driving around without functional airbag systems.
The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. The contact stated that the horn would go off spontaneously. The dealer reset the computer. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The interior lights dimmed, but the vehicle would restart. The vehicle has stalled on numerous occasions. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was unknown.
