Vehicle information: make: Jeep model: Wrangler model year: 2007 VIN: [xxx] safety recall information: NHTSA campaign 16v-290 manufacturer recall number: s33 component: airbag / clock spring this recall was previously performed by a dealership in February 2021; however, the vehicle is now experiencing the same symptoms the recall was intended to address, indicating the safety defect has reoccurred or was not permanently remedied. The vehicle is currently experiencing: illuminated airbag (srs) warning light horn failure traction control / electronic stability program warning light erratic or abnormal a/c behavior that coincides with the srs/steering wheel electrical faults these failures are consistent with a defective clock spring and directly impact the supplemental restraint system and other active safety systems. I contacted an authorized Jeep dealership to request inspection and repair of this recurring safety defect. The dealership confirmed the recall had been previously completed but refused to diagnose or repair the vehicle, stating in writing: “due to company policy, we are unable to perform diagnostic or repair services on vehicles that are more than 10 years old. ” they further stated that because the recall was marked as completed in 2021, they would not assist further and recommended I seek an independent repair facility. I believe this refusal violates the intent and requirements of the national traffic and motor vehicle safety act (49 u. S. C. §§ 30118–30120), which requires manufacturers to remedy safety defects and does not allow age-based or policy-based refusal when a safety defect exists or reoccurs. This defect involves the airbag system and active safety features and presents an ongoing risk to vehicle occupants. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in reviewing this matter and ensuring that the manufacturer and/or authorized dealer fulfills their obligation to properly remedy this safety defect. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 5.
Tipm failure. Recall 07v291000 my vehicle (2007 Jeep Wrangler) is not included in the recall, although it was recalled for this model. Car suddenly had a variety of bizarre electrical malfunctions including wipers acting on their own, difficulty starting, and stalling while driving. Mechanic inspection ($150) also contirmed that it is the tipm. The vehicle is too dangerous to drive before the tipm is replaced.
Premature failure of tipm, multifunction headlight switch and multifunction switch. Causing no wipers or turn signals engine shuts down randomly. Faulty rollover valve in gas tank that leaks fumes and gas spits from fuel fill when full.
The door locks will unlock and lock by themselves. Without anything being touched. It does it so often that it will run the battery dead at night as the headlights come on every time the vehicle unlock is triggered. Also the horn will sound for no reason. Unprovoked at all hours. No warning whatsoever.
In 2022, I paid over $15,000 to an official Jeep dealership (Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram city, greenwich CT) to replace the engine in my Jeep Wrangler. Without clear disclosure or consent, they installed a non-oem jasper remanufactured engine. The invoice misleadingly stated “all parts are new unless otherwise indicated,” with no mention of jasper or warranty terms. The vehicle began malfunctioning almost immediately, raising multiple serious safety concerns, confirmed by written service exchanges: •“the Jeep is stopping alone! just crazy, brakes come on alone” — ?? spontaneous brake engagement poses a serious crash risk. •“it also smells strong gas when turning the car on” — ?? potential fuel leak or misfire, which is a fire hazard. •“the Jeep is malfunctioning,” “check engine light came back on,” “needs a pcm”, followed “I’m not sure this is a computer problem, but the motor you folks placed in the car. ” — ?? suggests deeper integration issues between the engine and vehicle electronics. After only ~8,000 miles, the engine failed again. I spent thousands more with an independent mechanic, who found that several parts supposedly replaced in 2022 were already failing again (spark plugs, oil cooler, manifold gaskets, thermostat). This points to reused components, poor-quality parts, or improper installation. Stellantis refuses to assist, claiming their dealership is “independent,” despite operating under stellantis branding and authorization. A stellantis rep confirmed they would only file an internal complaint and left me to handle everything alone. This reflects mechanical negligence, brand-level accountability failures, and clear safety threats. I’m requesting NHTSA investigate: •post-engine replacement safety hazards and quality of work and materials •dangerous servicing practices at this authorized dealership (if not many or all of them) •stellantis’ lack of oversight over branded repairs.
Timp has gone bad. Causes all gauges to quit working, stalls engine during operatiing, door locks and security system inoperable, headlights work then don't work. Lights come on even if switch is off. Window motors quit working. The well known failure of the timp in Chrysler vehicles, especially all Jeep Wrangler series dating as far back as 2006, have not been addressed nor fixed by Chrysler. This timp failure is a severe safety hazard and needs an immediate recall forced upon Chrysler/daimler/Jeep. My 2007 Jeep Wrangler jku timp quit working, whilst I was driving. This could have caused a major accident of which could have resulted in injury, and/or death. Thankfully, I was able to physically through the disabled power steering to stop vehicle. Through my research, it appears this is a major safety issue plaguing nearly every Jeep Wrangler produced. Something needs to be done now to address this issue. I wonder if anyone involved in an accident causing injury or death or damage could have been related to the timp. I am going to discuss this issue with the north carolina general assembly and nc and us attorney's general's office as well. This has to be fixed now with immediate recall forcing Chrysler/daimler/Jeep to fix the timp.
Vehicle caught fire while sitting in driveway in front of home 30 minutes after driving the vehicle. Total loss.
For the second time a brake line has broken causing brake failure while driving. I called Jeep and was told there has been no recall and the dealership's service department takes no responsibility. My daughter was driving around a circle at a major highway intersection when the brakes failed. I guess a certain number of people must die before a recall is made. Have had an electrical issue with blinkers since I owned the car. When turning off blinker when changing lanes, the opposite blinker comes on. Trying to turn that side off, then makes the other side come back on. It takes going back and forth for a few times before it will just turn off.
My 2007 Jeep Wrangler has a seriously dangerous problem commonly referred to as the death wobble! I had never heard of it until it did it while I was driving down a smooth suburb street and I searched the internet for help. The Jeep owners community named it the death wobble because it literally wobbles and shakes without any warning lights, without anything triggering it, on every type of road, and at every speed. After it happened on the interstate with my son in the car with me, I no longer allowed my children to ride in the Jeep at all. We almost died that day as it shook so violently almost putting us in the opposite side of the interstate! we missed getting t-boned by an 18 wheeler by just a hair. It was so frightening! the Jeep dealership service dept said there's nothing that they can do about it and that it was very common. How is such a danger common??? how can these vehicles be legally sold?? the last time it happened I was alone and I ended up in a ditch. I was able to drive out of the ditch and went to nearby auto shop. Their diagnosis was that the engine "sling a rod" they said. For 3 months now, I have been making payments on a Jeep sitting dead in an auto shop. As a single mom I can't afford such a huge repair and route 66 warranty company decided to cancel my already paid for extended warranty when I filed the claim on it. They denied it and said they're canceling me. This vehicle is going to kill someone. Please help!!.
Vehicle would stall and put itself into limp mode upon driving at highway speeds. Happened numerous times over the course of a 3 week period. Obd-ii threw codes pertaining to failing sensors in egr, camshaft and acceleration pedal. Read many online forums about other with Jeep and Chrysler vehicles having faulty tipm units. My car will now not run without sounding like it's being starved of fuel. I fear the bad tipm may have also caused the fuel pump to go bad. Chrysler was less than helping in suggesting I bring the vehicle in and was told my warranty (if I even had one still valid) could be voided for bringing the vehicle to a shop my friend owns for the repairs instead of a dealership. This car has been nothing but problems since I purchased it two years ago. I'm in the thousands of dollars in non routine repairs and owe too much on it to walk away from it. It's my daily driver and have no other vehicle to get to work or around.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler x rhd 4x4. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle stalled and all the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was driven to livonia Chrysler Jeep (30777 Plymouth rd, livonia, mi 48150) where it was diagnosed that the totally integrated power module needed replacement. Also, for the past two years, the steering wheel shook severely when the vehicle was driven above 50 mph. The manufacturer was notified of the failures. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Driver's side door lock makes clicking noise, will only unlock/lock when done on inside manually or on the outside by key. Door switch and key fob both do not unlock/lock door when parked. The door does not auto-lock when the vehicle is in motion.
Factory car radio goes on and off for no reason. When it goes off the unit seems to have no power to it and it comes back on at random times. You can go weeks without the radio and it will come back on for a day or so for no reason.
Drove up to my house and parked the Jeep (after driving 8-10 miles). Went inside the house. Within 10 minutes went back outside and smoke was boiling out from under the hood and it was dripping fire on the ground. Fully involved very quickly.
Engine dies at highway speed . All warning lights on dash light up. After pulling over to side of road, wont start for 5-10 minutes. Vehicle has done this 3 times in last 6 weeks. Cannot diagnose because no codes are recorded.
In the last 6 months, the power lock actuators have failed on all 4 doors. I have to manually lock/unlock all of the doors. They partially respond to the key fob, but they don't respond at all to the lock/unlock switch on the front doors.
Taka airbags, tipm fuse box. Completely disables the vehicle. They have known about and have been running this part in many Chrysler Dodge Jeep vehicles since 1995. My car is a 2007. It reckon havock on the whole electrical system. The dealer milks all of your 260 somthing sensors before replacing the tipm, totally integrated power module. And the sway bar disconnect is prone to water damage and shorting out because they let water in the assembly and short out then they charge you 1400 dollars for a new one. When it is just the actuator. A manual override is only 89. 00. All of these problems are from the can buse c. 90 %of this vehicle problems are from this can buse c. But no recall on the tipm, sway bar actuator, or can buse c communication. This whole electrical system should be a recall. It is garbage. Over complicated and under nesasary! driving done the freeway and the whole dashboard lights up I pulled over turned car off and then would not turn back on. Goes in to a limp mode. I was worried that it would shut off or worse cause an accident or leave me stranded in the freeway! the airbag recall could set the airbag of wile driving causing you to crash.
The m-19 fuse keeps blowig.
My car started acting up. Neighbors would come regularly ring my house bell to let me know that the Jeep's headlights were on. The Jeep was parked in the street. The problem: it wouldn't stay locked. It would automatically lock and unlock whenever. We only have street parking at home and it was very stressful to leave the car open at night in the street or even when going places. Also the windshield wipers started getting stuck in the middle of the windshield or sometimes stopped working completely. This was very dangerous especially when it happened at high speeds on the highway! finally, the right blinker wouldn't work and that problem seemed to be related to the broken locking/unlocking system. After going back and forth to two different mechanics 5 times (each time they said it was fixed but it wasn't), after replacing the tipm and all the wiper motor parts and reprogramming everything properly, it is now a functional car again! it was a big bill and on top of that I had to spend money on lyft and was very handicapped without a car!.
Received recall notice (r13/NHTSA 15v-222) for clutch interlock switch. I removed the part (1 clip and one connector) and tried to get a replacement part at local dealer. They attempted to charge for the part and I asked for no charge due to recall. They refused to give me the part because I "might not install it correctly". They wanted me to schedule appointment for repair (put the part back in and drive to the dealer, which gave them enough faith that I could plug it in?). I didn't want to wait at dealer to have a part plugged in, so contacted fca recall assistance. Debate ensued regarding what fca will and will not pay for. I proposed that I will buy the part and submit for reimbursement. I was told that I might not be reimbursed. After review of title 49, I called fca recall assistance back and conceded some aspect of my original argument (based on title 49, 30120 (a)(a)(I)) and offered to let the dealer come over and clip in the part. Of course, they refused and recall assistance recommended taking it to the dealer, in essence, installing the suspect part they are concerned that I might not install correctly (the basis for refusal to provide the part), then drive to dealer). I asked if I there was so much concern about proper installation, why would fca endorse the installation of the old part. Fca then recommended that I pay to tow the vehicle to the dealer for the repair. First of all, should I be reimbursed for the part, if I purchased and installed? fca position is maybe. Secondly, why is reimbursement at the discretion of fca?.
Driving on the highway, my Jeep dash lit up and it shutdown. I had to coast out of harms way and have it towed home as it would not re-start. Been reading about tipm failures in my model year. Seems to be related.
My Jeep will start but no gauges or light on dash come on, the wipers turn on at full power. When this happens the Jeep will not shift out of park. I have been told the tipm is causing the issues.
Fire started under the car somewhere between the engine and transmission. Glow of the flame was towards the back of the engine compartment and towards the center of the car. Fire worked its way forward and engulfed the engine compartment. Car was in motion exiting from the highway onto an off ramp when issue was noticed.
I've had it in the shop three times for the same issue. While driving the engine will stall. It may start back up, or it may take 10 minuets for it to restart. After researching this I believe it to be a faulty tipm. At times when it stalls, the blower moter on the a/c will continue to run even with the key off and out of the ignition. My concern is the loss of power steering and power brakes when it stalls at highway speeds. This is a big safety hazard. There are multiple complaint for this same issue. I have had the tipm reprogramming that is on recall. This didn't help the problem.
As soon as I turn the car over, my dash lights, headlights come on. The headlight stalk and the windshield wiper stalk are inoperable. It's a safety hazard to drive my car. And after researching through multiple forums and sites online, it looks like this is a fairly common problem, with a non-standard resolution. Not looking forward to the hours I'm going to have to spend getting this addressed. I was driving 8/14 when I noticed the issues.
My car caught on fire while driving from ok to TX, before the fire my brakes went out and my wheel was locked. Between a minute of running out of the car with my baby my car was completely in flames, my Jeep was at the dealer 2 weeks ago for service, I never have a dashboard warning, car was working perfectly until caught in fire, OH before my breaks went out my car started to lost power and the fire started under the hood (passenger seat) we need some answers, that's not fsir.
"takata recall" I was driving my Jeep Wrangler 2007 when I started to lost power and I try to move to the emergency line but my brakes went out and my wheel were locked, I was not able to control my car at all, after my car abruptly stop I run to get my child out and my car was on flames under the hood (passenger side) I didn't have a warning, I checked my dashboard and nothing was on, my car was at the Chrysler dealer for service two weeks ago and pass state inspection last week. That's is not acceptable, I didn't have time to get my bag and wallet, my car was on flames. Chrysler need to do something about it. We need some answers. My car was in motion, in a highway.
When I turn the key it reads invalid skim key and will not crank unless the key is pushed into the cylinder when a great deal of force.
The fuse box caught fire/wire harness melted and was smoking before someone was able to disconnect the battery to stop more damage.
Air bag light and chime keep going off . I don't feel that its safe and I'm documenting it in case it fails to work and I don't make it .
Over the last 2 year, I have been having issues starting my Jeep. It would not crank at all 2 or 3 times and than start with no problems. It would be fine for a few days and than do it again. Morning, afternoon, when raining or snowing, it is unpredictable. Starting 3 days ago, my air bag light is coming on when turning left and than would go off after a few minutes of driving. Today, I had it checked at work and it came up as the driver side air bag is the source of the problem. I drove to big o Dodge in greenville and the service department just blew me off telling me that their is no recalls or problems with my Jeep. But I happened to know one of the technician there that told me on my way out that they are having some issue with the Wranglers concerning these issues. So I decided to look online and come across a lot of similar complain on forums concerning my issues and than came across your web site. Sean vercammen, 864-382-7880.
Tl-the contact owns 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle shut off. The vehicle restarted after several attempts. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000. Mf.
Jeep overheated in traffic. Turns out cooling fan was not working. All fuses and relays were checked. Turns out it was the tipm. You would think by now Jeep would pay for this fix. Especially since this part is a nation wide back order. And it's a $600 part!.
I parked my Jeep in my drive way around 12 pm after on Monday, April 6th. Around 4 pm the same day a fire, that appeared to be electrical in nature, started in the dash inside the factory gps/radio system. The key was not in the ignition. I was alerted by my neighbor that my Jeeps emergency flashers were on and it was smoking. We rushed to the Jeep, the windows were all burnt black the fire was just smoldering because the doors and windows were shut. My dad and I quickly grabbed two fire extinguishers and when we opened the doors the fire engulfed the entire front dash. After a few uses of the fire extinguishers we managed to put the fire out before too much damage was done. The entire front dash was melted and the windshield was cracked. We suspect the vehicle to be totaled but we have heard back from the insurance company.
My Jeep Wrangler unlimited x has stalled 3 times while I was driving. The dashboard lights up like a christmas tree and the vehicle's power goes out for what seems like no more than 2 seconds. There have been quite a few other problems with this Jeep, but most have been covered under warranty and the lifetime drive-train warranty. Question #2 I can not give any dates, so I put today's date. I know for a fact that the vehicle has experienced the aforementioned problem 3x's as it is an unforgettable experience.
