Manual Transmission problems of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

14 problems related to manual transmission have been reported for the 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2010

The Jeep Wrangler jk series with manual transmissions have in inner shift boot that becomes dislodged and cause the vehicle to pop out of gear. This happens at least once a month. My Jeep was brought to the dealership for repair and the problem happened again after 2 months. Other Jeep Wrangler owners report the same issue.

2 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2010

Manual transmission does not shift properly since day one of ownership. It has been serviced by 3 different dealerships and remains problematic and dangerous. At the current time it is hard to shift into second gear and "pops" out of first gear.

3 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2010

I acquired my Jeep Wrangler (manual transmission) in January of 2007, shortly thereafter it started popping out of 1st gear. At first it was just once or twice a month, it has progressed to a point where it was doing it 4-6 times per day. At first I thought that I was not engaging it properly, but ive subsequently tried to hold it in 1st gear and it forces itself out of gear so hard that it almost broke my wrist. Ive noticed that it pops out more upon low to medium acceleration. Last month, I approached an intersection in an attempt to make a right had turn. As I attempted to make the turn from a stopped position, upon moderate acceleration, the transmission popped out of first gear and left me stalled in neutral in front of oncoming traffic. Fortunately, the vehicle behind was able to skid and barely hit my slowed vehicle. At this point my wife stopped driving the vehicle as she felt it was two dangerous. I was now convinced that this condition was very unsafe and returned the vehicle (@49,500 miles) to a Jeep dealership for repair. The dealership updated the 1-2 synchronizer assembly with stronger detent springs pursuant to the Chrysler/Jeep technical service bulletin 21-001-10 that was issued on March 2, 2010. I encourage you to investigate this defect in order to prevent serious injury or death to additional vehicle owners.

4 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

2007 Jeep Wrangler. When leaving a stop, manual transmission violently pops out of 1st gear on acceleration. This seems to happen when acceleration is needed most of all such as when turning left on a busy 4-lane road. Driver is then unable to put car in any gear for several seconds. This will lead to a serious accident eventually by being hit broadside or from the rear if stalled leaving a traffic light or stop sign. Dealer acts like they never heard of this but the web is full of similar reports. There is no fix for this other than a transmission redesign. This has happened about 15 times in the past 3-years. The only thing that seems to help is to hold the shifter firmly in 1st gear when accelerating to prevent it from popping out of gear. I'm going to have to trade the Jeep because it is unsafe. Unfortunately the dealer will sell it to some poor unsuspecting person who will probably kill himself.

5 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/14/2010

2007 Jeep Wrangler violently pops out of first gear. Happens daily and will eventually lead to a accident. It is just a matter of time. I was almost rearended on numerous occasions. Chrysler TSB 21-001-10 fixes the issue but in warranty only. This is a safety issue and a recall should be issued.

6 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2010

Sixth occurrence of problem: when in first gear, the gear bangs and locks-up. This normally occurs when just starting across an intersection after being stopped at a red light. This is extremely dangerous, as another vehicle could rear-end me or side hit me if I were making a left turn across an intersection. My local dealership cannot duplicate this problem when in for service. I have researched other Jeep Wrangler vehicle owners with this same problem reported, and the only fix was a complete transmission replacement. Other odi by me 1030673(2/5/2010); 10310930(2/16/2010); 10310938(2/16/2010).

Fourth occurrence of problem: when in first gear, the gear bangs and locks-up. This normally occurs when just starting across an intersection after being stopped at a red light. This is extremely dangerous, as another vehicle could rear-end me or side hit me if I were making a left turn across an intersection. 9 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2010

When in first gear, the gear bangs and locks-up. This normally occurs when just starting across an intersection after being stopped at a red light. This is extremely dangerous, as another vehicle could rear-end me, or I could be hit while making a left turn across an intersection. This has happened 3 times to me now. The latest time was today. I have researched this problem and other Jeep Wrangler 6-speed owners are having the same problem with little help at local dealerships. I had this at my local dealership on 1/25/10 and they could not duplicate problem at 17,936 mileage. The same problem occurred on 1/18/2010. Other drivers have indicated the only fix for the problem has been a total transmission replacement. Problem continues and no fix because dealership cannot replicate problem.

10 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2007

It is a 2007 Jeep Wrangler x with a 6 speed manual, there is a loud squealing noise coming from underneath the truck. When in the rpm range of 1500 to 2000 rpms it makes this noise. It is starting to become very annoying because the more I drive the louder it gets. The dealership has replaced the throw out bearing per the TSB that was given. That has not fixed the problem. The dealership said they contacted Chrysler and that it would take 30 days to get a field engineer out to look at my problem to come up with a solution for it. So I am still waiting and not very happy with the dealerships outcome.

11 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/26/2007

Starting with the purchase of the 2007 Jeep in may 2007 we have had nothing but problems. Leaky roof, electrical stall issue (still not fixed after multiple recalls), electronic stability death wobble, etc.

12 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2007

Vehicle has stalled while driving 45mph on exit ramp and 65mph on highway. Vehicle restarted right away as it's a manual transmission. All dash warning lights lit up like when first turning vehicle on. Didn't notice loss of power steering as I was going straight both times. Didn't file complaint before because I didn't know I could. Was just waiting for Jeep to come up with the solution and then take it in for it.

13 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2007

While driving at roughly 70 mph on highway throttle felt a little weird then the rpms dropped to zero as the electronic throttle control light on the dash came on. Immediately headed for the shoulder as I lost power steering and power braking although the electronic steering/braking system was alerted during my swerve towards the shoulder. The vehicle was very unresponsive. Upon reaching the shoulder the vehicle stalled. Turned off the vehicle, and then restarted it and cautiously returned home. Consulted the manual and it appeared that such events were expected and considered normal if the electronic throttle control light did not returned upon restarting the vehicle. The vehicle has shown signs of repeating this trouble and during those times I have let off the throttle, down shifted and then shifted up again in hopes that whatever glitch was occurring would be reset. Conditions: late afternoon, f, driving for about 45 minutes manual transmission , stereo was on.

14 Manual Transmission problem

Failure Date: 04/12/2007

Transmission pops (clutch slap) out of first gear on acceleration from a stop.
