1 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2020

Jog slips out of first gear violently. The gear doesnt stay engaged and this is very dangerous when pulling out in traffic. This happens quite often. When it pops out, you are a standing duck.

2 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2019

The vehicle jumps out of gear often when beginning acceleration while in first gear and sometimes when turning while in third gear. This is an extremely dangerous defect. It could have particularly deadly consequences when starting from a dead stop and pulling out into traffic or turning in front of oncoming traffic (of course when given plenty of time and space and yielding of right of way to other vehicles), if it were to leave you stopped all of a sudden after popping out of gear. It's unbelievable that Jeep and dealerships deny that this is a problem when it has been going on for over a decade now with no official fix or recall. We've "learned" to drive it with this dysfunction, but this should be leading to wrongful death lawsuits if it ever caused such.

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 05/25/2017

Vehicle will jump out of 1st gear after 10 feet into an intersection when taking off from a stop, leaving you in the middle of oncoming side traffic while in neutral. I have almost been hit multiple times. There is a service bulletin that Jeep is aware of the dangerous problem. This is on the manual transmission models.

4 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2015

I bought the 2007 Jeep jk used with approximately 81,000 miles. Shortly, after owning the vehicle I experienced the jump out of gear (jog). It is a very frightening, and potentially dangerous problem with this transmission. The problem occurs when starting in first gear from a dead stop. Most often, there are vehicles behind you, when the jog occurs the vehicles behind are not prepared for your loss of forward momentum. On one instance I have been hit from behind. On many other instances there have been some close calls. The other danger is if one is pulling out and crossing a traffic lane. Losing forward momentum can be very dangerous as cars approach from either the left or right side. I truly believe this issue is a result of a transmission design flaw that should be covered by Jeep no matter if the original warranty has expired. In most of these cases, there has to be several related injuries before these manufacturers will take action. It is all a cost benefit analysis.

I was driving my 2007 Jeep Wrangler, and the automatic transmission slipped out of gear, I was driving at 25mph. If this happened on the highway, this could have caused an accident that could have resulted in serious injuries, or death to a person, or persons.

7 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2011

The six speed manual transmission continually jumps out of first gear while pulling away from a stop. This is dangerous because it could cause an accident to occur if the transmission was to jump out of gear during a take off and crossing lanes of traffic. I also am aware that this is a common problem, not only has Chrysler shipped a non-functional vehicle but have knowingly ignored a fix after 5 years.

8 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2011

While pulling out of a driveway, my Jeep jumped out of 1st gear. As I let off of the clutch and began to roll it violently jumped out of gear. I had enough speed for my Jeep to actually enter traffic. By the time I figured out what had actually happened I was in traffic and was almost hit by an oncoming car. This is a well known problem and Jeep is only offering to repair it if it is under warranty. My Jeep only has 53k miles on it and it has done this a few times over the last couple of months. In my opinion Jeep should recall this as a safety recall before someone is injured or killed.

13 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2010

I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler unlimited rubicon model 4x4 with a manual transmission. The vehicle will intermittently slip out of first gear causing a loss of acceleration. This can be very unsafe while executing a left hand turn with oncoming traffic. I have had the vehicle into the dealership approximately five times and they refuse to acknowledge the problem stating that they are unable to replicate the issue. Additionally, the vehicle will occasionally be difficult to go into gear and will make a grinding noise. I did not have any issues with this until I had approximately 28,000 miles on the vehicle. The problem is intermittent and can occur multiple times in one day or not at all for several days. I have not had any accidents as a result of the issue but I feel it is highly unsafe and I am afraid for my spouse to drive the vehicle.

14 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2009

A 2007 Jeep Wrangler 4dr. 4x4 with a manual transmission, is very difficult to get into 1st gear. Often, when starting out, the transmission slips out of gear into neutral under load, resulting in an unsafe and startling condition. This occurs with all three drivers in the house, and also with someone who borrowed the car. However, the dealer claims not to be able to reproduce the problem, and offers the car for pick up. I see below that there is a request for the approximate incident date, but this is a recurring condition.

15 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2008

The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. While the contact was driving approximately 25 mph, unexpectedly the instrument panel warning indicator displayed that the gear was in the drive one range, when actually the gear selector was in the drive position. The contact expressed his concern that the transmission could have possibly slipped out of gear. Also, the gear selector would not shift normally into the drive one and drive two gear. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the shifter assembly was replaced. Recently, the identical failures recurred and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer. The technician informed that the gear shift cable had disengaged which was reconnected. The failure mileage was 18,081. Updated 09/27/10 updated 10/04/10.

16 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2007

2007 Jeep unlimited 4 door 4x4 purchased new in April, 2007 vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission. Within 3 weeks after purchase of vehicle I was proceeding up a hill when the transmission shifted out of gear on its own and into what seemed to be neutral causing the vehicles rpm's to increase from 2000 to over 4000 rpms while the vehicle slowed down. After release of the gas pedal the vehicle went back into gear. The vehicle repeated this in July while pulling a pop-up camper down the interstate going uphill. When the vehicle went to automatically downshift it went into a neutral mode. This almost caused a vehicle behind me to rear end me since I lost power and began to slow without any brake lights coming on. Once again the vehicle went back into gear after release of the accelerator. At that time the vehicle was taken to the dealer for repair however since the dealer could not create the problem again and no computer codes were stored the dealer could not do any repairs. As time goes by the condition is getting worse however dealer cannot find a way to fix the problem. I am very concerned since the intermittent problem can happen at anytime especially when quick acceleration is needed.
