Without warning . . . Horn starts blowing, windshield washer comes on, lights flash, door locks won't work, key switch off doesn't stop the problem, so far have able to pull off the road and open the hood to disconnect the battery. Reconnecting the battery sometimes works but the heater/ac stops working. . . This situation is a real road hazard!!! after awhile things work ok until it repeats. Very dangerous car to be on the road. Jeep service people respond by saying that that they find nothing wrong! well sure, the event is over when we are able to bring the vehicle in to be "fixed"! basis for a class action suit for sure! vehicle has been in motion on the highway and stationary when this has happened.
Sand castings in the heater core. From what I understand, this is a very common issue and Jeep has at least one TSB bulletin about it. The symptom is "no heat to driver side" documented fixes are doing a full flush and replacement of the heater core. There are countless case numbers on the internet regarding this problem.
The 2008 Jeep Wrangler and other Jeeps have a problem of not starting. It sounds a if the battery, starter, battery terminals, ignition, shift lever, or a number of other items are the problem. It seems no one can pin point the problem, and people like me are paying money to change out parts that are not bad. If you search the web this is a problem that covers all or a lot of Jeeps, and Chrysler has their head in the sand when it come to trying to fix the problem. Their solution is just keep changing out parts until you are broke or trade the car in, and pass the problem on. In my case I have replaced the battery the starter battery terminals took out the security system. The trouble shooting I have done is up in the air because it happens only when it wants to fail. You can start it in park sometimes, but if it fails you can move the shift to neural and it will start. You can start it a hundred time but it will fail.
Experiencing what has been called "death wobble. " violent shaking and unable to safely drive on hwy. If you hit a bump going over 55 you will most likely experience this and can only stop to regain control. This may be a deadly problem! has happened numerous times since purchasing this Jeep in July of 2015 and we've only had it 3 months. No dealer support or help on the problem after first attempt to resolve the issue.
When I am driving my Jeep out of no where it decides to do the 'death wobble'. It has almost thrown me off the road in several situations. This is very dangerous and I do not understand why Chrysler has this problem with a bunch of their Jeeps and does not fix it for anyone or warn anyone. I have took it to place after place trying to get an answer of why I have changed the steering stabilizer 4 times now. I am terrified to drive my Jeep not knowing when it is going to happen again. It could be over a very small bump in the road that isn't even noticeable to the naked eye or a big bump it does not matter. I have spent a lot of money trying to fix this problem. There is no way anyone would be able to stop there vehicle as fast as they need to because of the death wobble when there is ice on the road this could kill someone!! shakes the whole front in uncontrollably!.
The car was in motion at n wharton maint st NJ 07885 the car did got in fire.
I work on drilling rigs in the north east often in remote locations. After returning to the rig from a trip to town with no issues I let the vehicle sit for two days. Upon opting to go to town I went to start the vehicle. I turned the ignition and had all electrical power but nothing to crank the engine. I tested all components I could before coming to the conclusion it was a computer related issue for a Jeep dealer. I made the arrangements and towed the vehicle to the dealership 40 mile away. After having the vehicle for a day along with all my fault finding data the dealer called to inform me it was the tipm. After questioning the rep as to the causes of a failure I was told that it unknown but a very common problem. After an expensive repair and 400 miles post repair I have had no further issues.
On may 2nd my son was driving my car, he stopped at the traffic light and when the light changed he accelerate and my car did not responded at that moment he said that he heard a big noise like something just broke in pieces inside of my car, so what happened is that the transmission broke, so we had to call a friend to come an pull my car with his, the I took to the transmission shop and the guy said that this is very expensive, then I look in my car papers and I found out that this car had a recall, for problems with the transmission so that means this is a manufactured problem and I want my new transmission because I take good care of my car as you see it has very low miles. And I have another complaint that this car I have to keep checking the motor oil which is crazy that every two months oil has to be added, my husband has a Toyota truck and never has problems with it.
I had just driven about 1/2 mile and parked in front of my house, went inside, took a shower and gone to bed. About 30 min later I wake up hearing popping outside, my Jeep was fully engulfed. The fire appeared to have started in the compartment area or from under the floorboards. My insurance company handled the claim but after seeing all these other comments saying pretty much the same thing I would like to know why Chrysler is not being held accountable.
Various dash lights turn on and back off after a couple of seconds. I had the problem in Aug. 2013, and the dealership replaced the clock spring for $550. Less than two years later, and the problem has resurfaced. Very disappointed to see that only the 2008 rhd were recalled.
Went out to vehicle to get something out of it and wiper fluid was spraying then wipers started moving and horn started blowing. The keys were in my hand not in the ignition. This continued for about 20 minutes nothing we did would make it stop. It has happened 8 more times since the first time. The only way to get it to stop is disconnect battery. (which we found this out after the 2nd time of it happening) this has happened going down the road along with just opening the back gate. It acts like it has gremlins. There needs to be a recall since so many people are having issues. This is a safety hazard! when this starts it scares the crap out of you and you have to find the nearest place to pull off to disconnect battery terminals.
Jeep Wrangler still acts up with electronics. After picking up some grocery as I open my passenger door my horn, both wipers, washer fluid spraying out, and lights started going haywire. Everything turned on all at once. I jumped in and tried starting it up maybe rest what ever short my be experiancing, I was able to start it but continue to go haywire as I turned off the ignition, it continue to run. I jumped out to pop the hood and pulled a fuse. The engine stopped and car stopped going haywire. I waited about 10 mins before replacing the fuse. Jeep Wrangler still honks horn (beep) and wipers shift a little in the morning when I open the driver door. Should I be concern that this melfunction will cause a fire or possiable harm?.
My 08 Jeep Wrangler only has 64. 000 miles on it and my son drives it,the horn and wipers would go off at random,I am just glad he was not on the interstate when this happened, that could cause anyone to wreck I took it to the dealer and the tipm was bad,I have looked into this and found out this is a problem part with this model, this is a major safety problem and I do not understand why this part has not been recalled. If there is anything you can do please let me know.
Airbag light came on. Diagnostic was clockspring needed replacement.
I was driving on the interstate, enroute home, and my 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited just lost power which I steered it onto the shoulder. No warning lights, nor equipment failure indicator was on my dashboard. My vehicle started smoking heavily underneath the engine compartment. I had to tow my vehicle to a Jeep dealership, for further investigation on the cause. I'm awaiting for their findings on the cause.
My 2008 Jeep Wrangler rhd caught fire while I was driving. I was turning onto the hwy and drove a few feet and noticed smoke. I immediately pulled off of the road, shut the car off and popped the hood. As soon as I lifted the hood I saw flames!! I contacted Jeep and they're "supposed to be doing an investigation". There wasn't any kind of warning the car wasn't even running any differently. Scary stuff especially from a vehicle that wasn't giving me any problems. Disappointed to say the least, but folks need to know for safety reasons. Vehicle is a total loss!!.
I had a lifetime warranty package on my 2008 Jeep Wrangler. I also keep great records of my maintained and did most of it at the dealership. I was driving 65mph on the highway and the transmition / engine area started smoking. When I pulled over group llc and lames were dripping from the transmition / engine area. Smoke quickly filled the vehicle and with-in 2 minutes the Jeep Wrangler was up in flames. I contact Chrysler group llc and they sent an inspector out. They were very hard to work with and mailed me letter saying, "the inspector found no indication of a manufacturing defect that caused or contributed to the incident on 1 Jul 14. No help at all! I want to look into this more. It seems the transmition / engine defect cost me a one Jeep Wrangler and they accepted no responsibility.
Since I purchased this Jeep, it intermittently will not start--typically in warm weather. We replaced the ground on the battery, purchased new battery, starter, neutral safety switch and all transmission sensors. Still, it will not start in warm weather. We literally have to wait until the outside temperature cools, then the Jeep will start. I researched the issue on-line and found many consumer references to this problem for this vehicle--commonly referred to as "the Jeep flu. " many report either the neutral safety switch or the tipm is the issue. Many references complain that Chrysler is fully aware of the problem--tipms on back order--but they are silent. This Jeep has stranded us many times--which can also cause significant harm for consumers. Chrysler should acknowledge this problem and provide a fix!.
My Jeep ignition switch will not go back in the lock position to allow you too pull the key out of the ignition however you can pull the key straight out. I have a brand new never used key and the ignition will not allow it to slide all the way in the Jeep still starts and shuts off however you have too disconnect your battery or it will drain the battery down. Also now you can not lock the vehicle.
I just pulled out of quick trip after putting $60 in gas in and right about 35 mph around 1500rpm I heard a loud "pop" the Jeep shut down, then flames came from both sides of my Jeep, almost burning my leg. (I had the doors and top off the vehicle. ).
My air bag light will turn on and off every couple of minutes.
I was on my way to work on a flat paved road when the Jeep started to shake violently! I pulled to the center lane and stopped. Once I was calmed down, I started driving again. About 3 miles down the road, the shaking started again! I know it is really bad because the drivers around me could see I was in trouble and they slowed down also. Again I pulled to the side of the road and stopped. I had to continue on to work but was very afraid it would happen while I was on the freeway, which it didn't. This is not the first time this has happened and I have reported it to Chrysler but they have not answered any of my inquiries. Something needs to be done.
Horn doesn't work, I also get an unknown ding warning sound in the dash, I am afraid my airbag may not work as well. The clockspring must be broken.
On the 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) dashboard, the airbag warning light flashes stays on steady with a chime, an indication that there is something malfunctioning or interfering with the vehicle's airbags. This has been a recurring issue and concern for many 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) owners, including myself, and has been shown time and time again to be caused by a faulty clockspring within the vehicle's steering wheel. This faulty clockspring is the culprit for potential airbag failure in the 2008 Jeep Wrangler (lhd) during an accident or premature deployment when simply driving around. Daimler Chrysler has refused to address the safety concern of their faulty clockspring that can cause failure of the vehicle's airbags from properly deploying.
This morning, March 7, 2014, on the way to work on a very busy road, my Jeep started to shake so bad, I had to pull to the side of the road or risk hitting someone. I calmed down, and returned to driving and it started again! it was the "death wobble" that I have experienced before but this is the first time it has happened twice in a row in such a short time. I have changed tires, had 2 different mechanics look at my Jeep and they can find nothing wrong, but there is something wrong!! please help!.
I was driving home from work and when I exited from the highway, my airbag light came on. It proceeded to come on and go off over the next 15 min on the rest of my drive home. This seems to be a faulty clockspring, which leads to a faulty airbag. This should be covered under the extended 10 year/150,000 mile warranty that covers the 2007 lhd and 2008 rhd Jeep Wranglers. Whether the steering is on the right or left side of a vehicle should not make a difference when it comes to driver safety.
Please have Chrysler/Jeep fix the Jeep death wobble at their expense. They say it is because owners of Jeep Wranglers modify their Jeeps for off road driving and that causes the Jeep death wobble. I have not modified my Jeep and it scares me to death when it wobbles. This is chryslers problem not mine.
Airbag warning light goes on and off repeatedly accompanied by a chime. When illuminated, horn will also not work. Indicates failed clockspring in steering column - a common occurrence on this series of Wranglers. Rhd Wranglers were recalled for the same problem.
August 29 2013, my airbag light turned on and chimed continuously on my way to work. Thinking this may have been a fluke, I drove it for another 24 hours to see if it would correct itself. Now, over 24 hours later, the problem continues to persist. The dealership in my area claimed to be backed up for the next week or two and did not give me reason as to why this might be happening. After searching the problem on both the TSB and open forums, I found that the cause is the clockspring in most jk's. I have also found that the warranty for the clockspring on the 2007 jk has been extended to 10 years/150,000miles. Also, the (2008-2012 right hand drives) have been accepted as having clockspring problems. I drive a 2008 jk along with many others that are having the same issue. This is a safety issue and may cause a non-deployed air bag when an air bag is neede. Please help resolve this issue. Thank you.
Powerful shaking of the steering wheel and front wheels after a hitting a road bump at about 50 mph. The shaking continued as I let off the gas and tried to get to the side of the road. It took two of us grasping the steering wheel to get it off the road. If I had not been in the slow lane to begin with, I most likely would have had a serious accident. After doing some on-line researching, I have found this problem is called "the death wobble" and Chrysler is well aware of it. I took the vehicle immediately to the dealer who told me my tires needed to be balanced and proceeded to do so. I wasn't more than a mile away from the dealer when I hit a small bump and the wobble was back. This is a very serious issue and needs to be looked into before someone is killed. I am terrified to get back behind the wheel of this Wrangler.
My Jeep Wrangler unlimited 2008 upper and lower ball joints have worn out at 49,000 miles. They have caused brand new tires rated for 60,000 miles to wear out at 20,000 miles. The ball joints that were installed by the factory were designed to not allow ongoing maintenance to them. There is not a well to put grease in to keep the ball joints functioning properly. The Jeep has never been lifted or used off-road. This is a common complaint among Jeep drivers that I have found. Many mechanic say it is a factory defect.
Horn stuck on until I pull wire off of horn. Air bag light is on esp light is on and traction control light is on. Research on Jeep forums appears to be the clock spring. Many other 2008 models seem to be having the same issue. Please provide some resolution to this issue.
My 2008 Jeep Wrangler sahara just started blaring the horn out of nowhere while I was driving. Many people slowed down to get out of my way, traffic patterns changed near me and almost caused a few accidents as everyone looked to see who was laying on their horn. The horn had a constant honk until I pulled out the fuses to disconnect it. My airbag light turned on and I have no idea if the airbag is working. I replaced the fuses and the horn did not honk again for a while until one night, about a week later, at about 2:00 am my Jeep woke my entire neighborhood with its blaring horn as I raced to pull my fuses out again. I looked up the possible cause of this problem and found many Jeep forums dedicated to the faulty "clock springs" in the steering columns that create these hazardous situations.
On 5/15/13 I purchased a 2008 Jeep Wrangler x from walser Subaru in burnsville mn. At approximately 8:50pm I was heading home from completing the transaction with the dealer. I was on I-35w north going around a long easy left corner in the road when I hit a rough area in the highway. The vehicle began to shake violently and the steering wheel was shaking hard left and right. I immediately grasped the wheel as firmly as possible and slowed the vehicle to approximately 45 miles an hour before the shaking stopped. I immediately took the next exit and inspected the tires and wheels thinking I had a flat or a loose wheel. I continued to drive home with no other occurrence of the incident. This morning 5/16/2013 at approximately 7:40am I was on my way to work and had just merged off of I-35w south to 280 south. I again was in a slight bend in the road this time to the right and hit a rough area of roadway. I was traveling at approximately 60 miles an hour when again the vehicle began to shake violently and I had to grasp the wheel firmly and slow until the shaking subsided. I've contacted the dealer and the vehicle is going in for inspection at walser Chrysler Jeep in hopkins mn at 1:45pm 5/16/13. I also did a significant amount of research online today after the second event and it appears this is a very common problem on 2007-2013 Jeep Wrangler jk models. It is most commonly referred to as "death wobble" this appears to be a wide spread and very dangerous flaw in the Jeep jk design and one that needs to be carefully investigated for safety of all those on the public roadways.
Bad clockspring on 2008 Jeep Wrangler 2 door lhd- air bag light on dash dings and comes on / goes off intermittently. No horn. Major safety issue that, from research and talking with other Jeep owners is very common but there is no recall for this yet.
