Fuel Pump problems of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Nine problems related to fuel pump have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2011

When filling up the vehicle at any and all gas stations, when the fuel pump handle clicks off automatically, a fairly large splash-back of gasoline exits the filler port and flows onto the vehicle, my hand, and the ground.

2 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2011

Fuel does not shut-off at fuel pump and gas spills out every time I re-fuel. The dealership didn't fix this when I recently had the vehicle serviced because it wasn't a re-call. I have since complained and it will be fixed under warranty during my next visit.

3 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4-dr 4x4. The contact stated whenever dispensing fuel close to the full level, the fuel would immediately spray out of the filler neck. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they stated that the failure was due to a faulty fuel pump nozzle. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 43,000.

4 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2010

I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler, 2 door. At around 30,000 miles, I started to experience gas overflow when filling up. When the pump is left to automatically shut off, it will and then gas will flow out of the fill up tube. It has been anywhere from shooting out to just running down the side of the Jeep. I would guess at least a cup of gas. This happens at various fuel pumps and different stations. I contacted the dealer and they said they have never heard of such a thing and maybe it was the pump. I told them it had happened at several different pumps, but they would do nothing. I now have to guess when the tank is about filled and go the lowest flow setting on the pump handle. If I get this right, I don't get gas on me or all over the side of my Jeep. Never had this problem when it was new and I think this is a safety hazard that should be fixed.

5 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

When I fill the gas tank it will over flow at the filler neck. When the fuel pump cuts off there is air pressure that will force the gas out when the tank is filled. I have used different stations with the same results. This is a fire hazard.

6 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2010

When fueling my 2008 Jeep Wrangler (jk), and allowing the fuel pump to automatically turn off when the gas tank reaches the full level, fuel will often overflow out of the fill port. My assumption is that the pump is not turned off soon enough, leading to an overflow situation.

7 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2010

Fuel sprays out of gas tank when gas pump auto stop is used. This is a fire danger as the muffler is very near the fuel inlet. Also, I have had fuel sprayed on my body, and if ignited, would have caused severe burns. This occurs about 75% of the time when using pump auto stop. I have since quit using auto stop, and manually stop the fuel pump. I'm taking to dealership for them to attempt a permanent repair.

8 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2010

Gas overflow at fillup. Automatic stop does not function with this gas tank at a variety of filling stations. Using hand, or auto, the gas keeps pumping past full. Every fill up ends with a gallon or more of fuel pumping onto the ground.

9 Fuel Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2008

I bought a 2008 Jeep Wrangler (4) door unlimited rubicon. I did not have more than 150 miles on it before the engine would stall while making a turn at an intersection. The vehicle stalls on a regular basis. The vehicle now has 7000 miles on it and about two weeks ago it stalled on a main city road going about 40 45 miles per hour. Vehicle display showed that it was out of gas but it had â¾ of a tank. After having it pushed off the road, and having 5 additional gallons of gas put in, it started with a very high rpm. The vehicle is now about 8 months old and has been in the shop for about 60 days. Some of the things that have been replaced are: fuel pump, tork converter, and power module. This stalling problem is a life safety liability. The dealership has been good to work with but our family is at risk every time we leave the drive way.
