194 problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I have owned this Jeep since early may of 2013. Whenever I go to the gas station and fill the tank gas always overflows from the filling neck. When pumping gas when the tank reaches full there is a bubble effect and you can effectively hear the filler neck burp then it spews fuel all over the ground, side of the vehicle and anyone standing close to the fuel door.
Gas spews out and does not shut off correctly when tank is full. Keeps shutting off gas when it is not full causing it to take an extremely long time to fill, but will not shut off when tank is full and will spit back gas and over flow.
When filling the fuel tank gas always comes spilling out of the filler hole. It does not matter if you are holding the pump handle with your hand or letting the pump shut off automatically. There seems to be some strange bubble effect and the gasoline burps back out of the filler hole and sprays all over the ground, the side of the vehicle and anyone standing close to the vehicle while it's being fueled. I filed a complaint three months ago and received no response. This is a very serious issue. . Could result in fire, loss of property or death.
I recently purchased this vehicle used and have filled the tank twice. Both times fuel sprayed out from the tank when the nozzle auto-shutoff engaged. I've seen several other complaints about this and wanted to report it.
Every time I fill the Jeep up with gasoline the tank overfills and spills down the side of the vehicle as the gas nozzle clicks off. I have researched this problem on the internet and found it is a common problem with this year model Jeep.
Every time I fill up with gas, the gas flows out of the fuel tank all over the car, me and the ground. This happens right before the tank is full and it doesn't shut the gas pump off.
When filling with gas, before the tank approaches full, gasoline spews out around the filler nozzle all over the side of the Jeep. Now that this problem has started, it occurs every time I fill up. I have had the Jeep for about a year and it was fine until recently. Chrysler has extended the warranty for Jeeps with this problem for Jeeps made between March 2007 and March 2008. My Jeep was made in may of 2008 so it is not covered. I have read on the net that many people with this issue have had the gas tank replaced and it has solved this problem. This is a dangerous situation and I am not sure what to do about it.
Fuel shut off doesn't trip during refueling causing gas spillage. I purchased my Jeep in October and haven't had a single refueling that hasn't resulted in gas shooting out of the gas tank when I'm refilling it.
Fuel tank overflows (sprays out) while filling at gas station pump after pump automatically shuts off. Tried numerous gas stations, pumping gas slowly all with same effect.
I just bought a 2008 used Jeep Wrangler unlimited x. The very first time I go tto fill the gas tank, the auto shut off fails and gas starts spraying everywhere. I was covered in it from the waste down and standing in a puddle of it.
Fuel overflow issue. When filling up my gas tank at the pump fuel will spray from the gas tank before the fuel nozzle shuts off. This has occurred at multiple gas stations and multiple pumps and is now occurring every time I try to fill my tank.
Starting months ago whenver I fill my tank at the gas station, fuel overfills when full. It happens at every station now everytime. I can put the fill lever at a lower fill rate and it still happens. I have the fill nozzle in all the way or out half way or in between and it does not matter. It leaks out about 6 - 12 oz down the vehicle. The entire vehicle smells like gas everytime.
On September 10, 2008 I purchased a new 2008 Jeep Wrangler from my local dealer. It has had modest use under normal driving conditions and has been properly maintained. It has approximately 18,500 miles on it. I have had no problems with the vehicle, except a month ago I started experiencing problems with the gas shooting out of the tank near the end of filling up. I could avoid the problem only if I shut off the gas as it neared the top (before the point when it is shut off by the nozzleâ??s own mechanism). However if I filled the tank on the Jeep as I do on our other car (and as I did on the Jeep prior to last month), the gas would shoot out of the tank, spilling on the side and on my fingers, and on one occasion, on my pant leg. I consider this problem of gas spilling outside the car a very dangerous condition which needs to be remedied. I had not received any recall or service action notices from the manufacturer about this problem. So I did an internet search and discovered that there had been a number of other people experiencing the same problem and that the manufacturer had issued a recall for 2007 and 2008 Wranglers manufactured between March 2007-March 2008. I checked my vehicle and determined it was manufactured in may 2008. However the problem was the identical problem complained about and which was the subject of the recall. I therefore contacted my dealer and was eventually advised that they would replace the fuel tank as an emission problem covered by a lifetime warranty. I would certainly think it advisable for the manufacturer be required to notify its owners of this problem and/or issue a recall of the affected vehicles. Please note that issues relating to vehicle defects and recalls is not part of my professional practice and I have no interest in this matter other than being a single Jeep owner.
Just purchased a 2008 rubicon and when I go to fill up the gas tank, there is always overflow after the pump shuts off due to being full. The gas splashed out all over my pants leg the first time and still overflows onto the side of the car and pavement.
When filling up the gas tank, if allowed to fill completely it will puke gas back out after the automatic pump shut off. Enough gas to run down the side of the Jeep and on to the ground. Since the first time it happened it will do it every time if I do not stop it early.
On multiple instances, while fueling the vehicle, the gas will not shut off, and the fuel will overflow out of the tank and spill on the ground and side of vehicle. This has happened at several different gas stations, and I have found that several others have had this same issue with their Jeep. Vehicle is just out of warranty, and I feel this unsafe condition should be a recall.
Every time I fill up the tank, if I let the pump click itself off, my tank shoots gas all over the place. Completely overflows my tank. Had it happen in two of my jk's.
I recently purchased a 2008 Jeep 4x4 Wrangler unlimited and on the way home I stopped to refuel. Not sure how much gas it would take, I was holding the nozzel and suddenly gas spewed out of the tank before the pump turns off, splashing over me, my shoes and the surround pum area. I initially thought I did something wrong, however the second time I refueled, the same thing happened. I've used this gas station for several years and have not had this problem with other cars. Then, I searched the internet to determine what I could do about the problem, only to find that it has already been reported, NHTSA has received numerous complaints by internet and decided to close the investigation? the internet is a great please to find resolutions for problems and quickly collect experiences or issues that affect the public. I'm not sure of the NHTSA's criteria to accept complaints and take action, but certainly hope that they are taking the appropriate action before someone is seriously injured or killed as a result of this situation. I just purchase a Jeep and the first time I filled up with gas, the pump shut off but fuel splashed out on the ground, the vehicle and me. I thought at first I just had done something wrong. I went three days later to fuel up again and this time did not use the nozzle handle latch and the same thing happened. The pump shut off and I kept the nozzle in the tank for a moment for the fuel to settle but it spilled out with force all over my car, the concrete and me. I don't know what to do as I love my Jeep but this is unsafe and I want it fixed! obviously there is no warranty remaining but I should not have to pay for a new fuel tank and system. There are numerous people on the internet forums that are having the same problem, this needs to be addressed and corrected. . . . . . Before a major incident occurs!.
My vehicle fuel tank overflows everytime I fill the tank. It appears that pressure is building in the tank forcing gas back up through the fill port after the nozzle has shut off. This has occurred at several different fueling stations. I contacted the dealership who acknowledged the problem and stated that fuel tank replacement is my only option. I purchased the vehicle new and have owned and fueled this vehicle for three years without incidence. The service department could not assure me that this replacement tank would not develop the same problem over time. This is my fourth Jeep and have never experienced this problem before now.
Fuel tank filler neck pours fuel out onto the ground when filling the tank to full.
Fuel tank overflows on each fuel fill.
When fueling the vehicle and the gas pump shuts off gasoline explodes in a gush from the tank filling port getting gas everywhere.
The gas tank overflows every time I fill the tank. The gas comes back up and out of the fill tube after the pump has shut off. This started a few month ago and happens every time I fill the tank now. About 1/2 to 1 cup of gas spills out on the vehicle and ground each time I fill the tank. Not only does the gas get all over me and the vehicle, but it creates a fire hazard leaving a puddle of gasoline on the ground at the gas station.
Every time you fill up the tank with fuel it overfills. If you don't trickle the nozzle it backs up on you, spilling fuel outside the vehicle. As soon as the nozzle clicks off the fuel starts backing up.
Every time I fill up the gas tank, anywhere from a cup to a quart or more of fuel overflows and sprays out and down the side of my Jeep and onto the ground (or even on to me if I'm standing by it) after the pump stops. I bought the Jeep used, and it has done this at every fill up since I have owned the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that when refueling the vehicle, fuel will spill out leaking all the over the ground. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed as needing a new fuel tank. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 75,000. Updated 05/08/lj.
Every time I fill up my 08 jk Jeep Wrangler with gas, the gas shut off happens, but gas comes pouring out of the tank. Usually about a half gallon is wasted, and causing environmental damage. It's annoying, dangerous, smelly and has never happened with any other vehicle I've owned. Read a lot on line and realize this is a manufacturer defect, happening to many others.
Fuel overspill when filling gas tank 2008 Jeep Wrangler.
Nine out of ten times when I use the automatic stop on the pump at the gas station, the tank will spill over when filling up. This causes gas to spill on the car, the ground, and sometimes myself.
Issue with fuel spillage when filling up the vehicle. Apparently there is fuel tank inlet check valve that has an issue. Every time I try to fill the vehicle up with gas it overflows. . . The pump clicks off as it should but there is an overflow of gas that comes out of the vehicle after the pump clicks off. I've had to stop filling my vehicle up and go to only putting $30 or so in to keep it from overflowing. Thought it was just me until I had someone else try filing it up and it did the same thing. Found out a friend of mine who also has a Jeep (2 years older than mine) had the same problem and ended up having to have his fuel tank replaced.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that on three occasions they were filling the gas tank on the vehicle and the gasoline started spilling out from the tank. The vehicle had not been inspected at the time of the complaint, but the contact spoke with a dealer who said they may have to replace the gas tank. The failure mileage was 31,990 and the current mileage was 32,400.
The airbag light stays on occasionally making a warning bell. I have no idea if the airbag is functional. Had it to the dealer once but since I work in this vehicle I could not leave it so they could not determine if it is the clockspring or an airbag module. The fuel inlet also spews gas when filling up the gas tank. There has been a recall on the fuel issue, but I have had parts on order for eight months and they are still on backorder.
When filling the gas tank, gasoline will erupt from the tank and spill on the ground if I attempt to completely fill the tank. This is a very hazardous situation. My dealerships says that parts are backordered and has not attempted to fix this dangerous situation for over 4 months since I notified them.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that gasoline was abnormally leaking from the gas tank. The manufacturer informed the contact that there was a waiting list for repairs because the part needed was unavailable. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who performed a diagnostic test and confirmed that there was a crack in the fuel tank. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileage was 43,000. Updated 05/03/lj the consumer stated the gas tank leaked and overflowed. The consumer stated she could only fill the tank half way. Updated 06/06/11.
