117 problems related to gasoline fuel system have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The fuel spills back during refueling.
Upon filling up the vehicle, fuel rushes out of the inlet and onto the fender guard, body, and bumper and on the ground. This has happened repeatedly at every fill up. After the first three times this happened I caught as much as possible from the spill = 3 pints +. It shoots all over my hands, arm, and leg. Very dangerous and hazardous having gas all over me.
Every time fuel is placed into the vehicle, the fuel filler neck will spit fuel out onto the driver or around the back of the vehicle. This started occurring in September 2013 and has been consistent with every time fuel is put into the vehicle. Once I began researching this I found it is a common problem on all Jeep Wranglers. I also found that Chrysler issued an extended warranty on 2007 and 2008 Jeep Wranglers, up to March 31, 2008. My vehicle was manufactured in April 2008 so I don't qualify for this warranty work. The fix seems to be a fuel neck with a check valve in it. Part cnnnx321ac. My Jeep even though is was manufactured after their warranty date, still has the old part on it that is causing the problems in the first place. God forbid anyone ever gets injured by this. Shame on Chrysler and shame on NHTSA for not taking any action.
When ever I fill up with gas, fuel spits back out at me.
Gas overflows when filling up vehicle.
Gas overflows during refueling. No matter the setting on the pump nozzle, after the nozzle clicks off more than a pint of gas spills out onto the ground. I have owned the vehicle since June 2008 and the gas never overflowed before December 2011. Now it overflows at every refueling, at multiple gas stations. Gas spills at every refueling are a safety concern.
The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. While refueling, the contact noticed fuel was spilled from the vehicle. The contact called the dealer and was informed the the check valve in the fuel system may need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.
When filling gas into the vehicle, a large quantity of gasoline spurted out at the end of the filling process. Approximately a half gallon of gas spurted all over my vehicle and me. This has happened more than once.
There is a known issue with fuel regurgitating from the fuel filler neck on fillup for 2008 Wranglers. My wife's 2008 Wrangler 4-door had the issue and was repaired. 4 months later, my 2008 Wrangler 2-door did the same thing. When reporting to the dealer, I was informed that my VIN is not part of the group with the problem. Yet there I stood at the pump with a quart of gasoline all over my Jeep, the ground and me. This is a fire and environmental hazard. The group is clearly larger than Chrysler is admitting. I want my Jeep fixed just like my wife's was when she had this issue!.
During a fill-up, the gas overflows everytime. This occurs at multiple gas stations.
When filling the Jeep Wrangler 2008 (build date 6/08), gas comes shooting out the filler tube right after the gas pump shuts off. I'm guessing approx. 12 oz. Of gas comes out. Chrysler extended the warranty for Wranglers with a build date of March 1, 2007 to March 31, 2008. My build date is June, 2008 and has the exact same issue. I read that this was investigated by NHTSA and they found this not to be a safety issue yet talking on a cell phone while pumping gas is? this really needs to be addressed immediately.
When putting fuel in the vehicle, it spits the fuel back out. . . Takes about 20 minutes to fill up and being very careful.
When you fill the Jeep up it always spits fuel on the ground and you if your standing too close. Not a little a lot.
Spits fuel from filler when refueling.
Every time I fill my Jeep wrangle. . . The pump stops and then fuel comes rushing out. Has happened every time I fill it at multiple different gas station. Read online this is a wide spread problem. My 08 liberty has the same problem.
We have a 2008 4 door Jeep Wrangler unlimited x and with every fill up, gas comes pouring out of the fill tube and onto the side of the Jeep and even our hands. The pump never shuts off in time and this has happened at several different gas stations. We have about 30k miles on the Jeep. With all the complaints regarding this dangerous problem, I can't believe there hasn't been a recall. This is not only unacceptable but at the very least irresponsible, this shouldn't even be an issue it should just be taken care of.
The vehicle when filling with gasoline overflows each and every time regardless of filling station used. This is a known Jeep Wrangler problem for 2007-2008 models but Chrysler is not correcting the problem for vehicles built after March 31,2008. My build date is 06-08. I don't know what changed after 3/31/08 but the problem exists for Jeeps built after that date. This is an extremely dangerous condition both public safety and environmental. Dealer wants $100 to diagnose problem. Chrysler needs to step up and fix this known safety defect.
2008 Jeep jk gas filler tube overflows when automatic gas shutoff occurs during refueling everytime. It has occured at many different gas stations and pumps. Gas comes out and coats the vehicle and ground.
Gas overflow at time of vehicle fillup.
2008 Jeep Wrangler manual trans caught on fire while I was driving.
While fueling gas pours out of the fill tube when full. Tried different fill stations same result.
Gas flows out while filling up vehicle, it does this at any pump.
Fuel overflows everytime I fill up. If you set the nozzle on automatic, when it shuts off about a cup of gasoline splashes out and runs all over the paint to the ground.
2008 jeel Wrangler causes fuel spills needing to be reported to the nysdec spill hotline for cleanup and remediation during fill up.
2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited shoots fuel out of filler opening after gas pump handle shuts off. Fuel is shot onto me, ground, and down the vehicle.
Purchased with problem already existing, fuelspills out during fueling, happens everytime, leads to fuel covering side of vehicle, hand and ground at pump. Nothings been done to correct problem, its a model defect in many Wranglers of this year and model, that dealer and factory wont take responsibility for.
Gas spills out of fuel filler when filling up at gas station. When setting fuel filler to automatically shut off when full, gas overflows and spills onto vehicle and around entire area around gas fill nozzle before shutting off.
2008 Jeep Wrangler jk fuel spills out of filler neck at the end of fueling process. Happens on every fill-up.
Every time I fill up (even at different gas stations) fuel spills everywhere - the pump does not shut off in time. Nothing has been done because the dealership says it will cost roughly $800 to fix!.
Fuel overflow-during fuel fill up, gas flow back up the fill tube and spills on the ground.
Fuel spit-back.

When fueling the vehicle a large amount of fuel overflows from the fuel receptacle 1-2 seconds after the pump cuts the flow of fuel. This happens every time the vehicle is filled and has occurred using in excess of 50 different fueling stations. Approximately 1 quart of fuel spills down the side of the vehicle and onto the ground. This creates a safety hazard as well as an environmental hazard.
