1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2019

First time filling the tank up, and out of no where gas ejected out on to me and would not stop. I had to grab the gas nozzle out to get it to stop. I was covered in flammable gas, small puddles on the ground and the gas that I couldnt get off the plastic bumper and fender, ruined them. Not to mention waisted $5 in gas and embarrassed when I had to tell the manager of the spilled gas.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2019

When filling my Jeep Wrangler jk 2009 gas tank it over fills when pump shuts off the spilling gas all over my 2009 Jeep Wrangler jk and ground.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2019

When filling up with gasoline, the pump shuts off automatically when the tank is full then gas flows back out of the car and spills all over the ground. This has happened ever since I owned the Jeep and they want to charge $1500 to fix a design flaw. The gas volume that spills is at least a quart and creates a dangerous situation.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2017

Upon filling the Jeep with gasoline (since owning the car), no matter the pump/station, the automatic stopping mechanism will stop filling when it is full and a "bubble" will back flow causing gasoline to shoot out of the car and soak the bumper/fender/me. I do not feel safe at a gas station covered in gasoline so have tried fixing this. I have replaced the evap canister but am not sure what to do rather than get an entire new gas tank.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/16/2017

When filling tank, fuel overflows every time. Have tried to decrease flow towards the end, but nothing seems to work. Seems like a huge safety issue with fuel spilling on every fill up.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/03/2017

When filling the gas tank, fuel shoots out of the filler opening when the tank is full and goes on the vehicle and on the ground.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2017

Filling up the gas tank, fuel spills out of the fuel tank.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2016

When the vehicle is at a gas station stationary and filling the fuel tank gas spits out at the filler neck when the pump is left to stop automatically. This issue started at approximately 50,000 miles which s outside of the 36 k miles warranty period. This happens at every fill up and spills about a pint of fuel out onto the vehicle and the ground. It is a consistent issue that repeats at every fill up when the pump is left to stop automatically.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2016

Each time I fill up the gas tank the gas overflows and erupts out of the filling hole spewing gasoline all over the bumper, fender, body and myself.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2015

When filling fuel tank, gas spits back at you onto you and the car. Very dangerous situation. This happens each time we get fuel.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2014

When filling fuel tank, gas back splashes and goes everywhere. It happens every time I fill fuel tank. You have to stand back or you will get it on you.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2014

When filling fuel tank, gas nozzle kicks off then fuel splashes back out of filler neck and goes every where, any where from a quart to more. I have been sprayed to many times and had to drive with gas on my clothes. This is very dangerous not only from risk of fire but from breathing gas fumes on ones clothes. I talked with Jeep customer service and ask why they didn't have a recall on this problem and was informed they don't issue recalls unless they are forced. Whats up with that, I hope you all will change your decision and force a recall before someone gets hurt. I can also send a video of gas slashing out every where if you need prof.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

Gasoline splashes back from tank upon filling, spilling fuel on me, the vehicle, and ground. This happens at every gas station with every fill-up for the last 4 years. Dealer says there is no problem.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/26/2013

I'm sure you're aware that this is an ongoing problem with Jeep Wrangler years 2007, 08 and 09 where upon filling up the tank and once it reaches the top, instead of the pump clicking off, fuel (a lot of it) spits out of the tank and all over the bumper and the ground. To Chrysler's credit, if you complain, they will reimburse you for the repairs but it is tedious and often times, people can't afford the money up front so Chrysler wins by attrition especially since they weren't forced to have a recall. I understand that NHTSA has closed this issue but it is bad. How would you like to have fuel pouring out of your vehicle and onto your shoes, car and the ground, every time you filled up? my next step is to report it to the epa for certainly, fuel spills of this magnitude cannot be legal. If at all possible, can you re-address this for the inevitability is that a 'perfect storm' scenario will occur and while fuel spewing problem is happening, static electricity from the consumer could ignite it or even some careless and unsafe smoker is too close. Sincerely, jim greene.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

Couple things. While in motion in 1st gear, the vehicle will pop out of gear suddenly, making a loud clunking noise. Also, when filling up the tank, it will overflow.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

When filling gas tank, gasoline "burps or spitsback" out of the vehicles gas tank after the fuel hose has clicked off. Approximatly 1/4 to 1/2 gallon of fuel spills onto the bumper of vehicle and ground. To prevent it from happening I only fill my tank with 15 gallons after the low fuel light has come on.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/10/2012

The past 3 times filling up the 2009 Wrangler, fuel gushed out of the tank when the pump shut off. I tried different fuel pumps each time, and they were not the cause. I looked on line and found out that this is a known problem and recalled on the 07 and 08 year groups, but not recalled on the 09 year. This is a problem that Chrysler should fix immediately.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

When filling up the gas tank, it spits back about a pint or two of gas after the auto shutoff on the gas pump turns off. It does this every time now at any gas station. I'm concerned about the fire hazard of spilled fuel shooting around.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

About 4 months ago I was filling up at pump and the auto-shut off did not work causing gas to gush out all over my Jeep and the ground. Tried several gas stations and it continued to happen. Took Jeep to dealer and they were aware of the issue - said it was not a recall, that they had to replace the fuel tank, o-ring, fuel pump and level unit. Luckily I have a warranty, however, I did have to pay a $100 deductible. My husband was researching and saw that this is an emissions issue and read that the manufacturer is responsible for any emission issues due to defective parts. I see several people have made the same claim as I and I do hope that someone looks into this issue with Chrysler/Dodge. I do not feel I should have had to pay a deductible - this sounds like an issue where if it happens, Chrysler/Dodge should be covering the work/parts.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

When I first purchased this vehicle brand new with only 17 miles on it, everything worked as it should. But just under 2 years of ownership every time I fill up the fuel tank- doesn't matter what station I go to- fuel spills out of the filler neck all over the side of vehicle and onto the ground. I takes steps to avoid it by listening to the filling process and stopping the pump manually when I hear the fuel nearing the top, but I shouldn't have to do that. And with the price of fuel, I don't want to have to pay for the quart or so that ends up at my feet!.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2010

Intermittent fuel overflow when filling the gas tank. At first it was a once in a while thing, maybe once every 10 fill ups, but recently has started to be a reoccurring issue. About 2-4 cups of gas will come out of the filler neck, dripping down the side of the vehicle and onto the ground. Some of this models from previous years had a recall or safety update that replace part of the fuel filler tube to include a check valve. I have talked with other Jeep owners with the same model year that are experiencing the same issue and have read about others having this issue as well. I contacted Chrysler to inquire about getting the fix for the earlier models applied to my vehicle and was told that due to the age and mileage, certain things are expected to need replacement and as a vehicle owner, I need to be responsible for that. I understand that, but when the replacement part that is needed is controlled by Chrysler and not available for sale to private individuals, this becomes another issue. Luckily, I was able to find a dealer that would sell me the recall replacement part.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

When filling my 2009 Wrangler with fuel the pump does not automatically shut off before fuel has spilled out of the tank, down the side of my car and onto the ground. I reported this to Jeep when if first occurred and they were familiar with the issue, but would not correct it free of charge. But let me know that I could pay to have it fixed. I have not paid to fix it and it continues to happen to this day. This is clearly a design flaw and they acknowledged that, but still have not issued a service bulletin to correct it. The dangers of fuel spilt down the side of my car and onto the ground should be obvious.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2009

My 2009 Jeep Wrangler overfills every single time I try and fill-up. It has gotten tot he point that I generally try and stop filling up at about 3/4 of a tank if I can, but if I allow it to fill aon its own, it overfills and splashes out.
