When filling my tank, it spits gas back out of the nozzle. I’ve been told in several forums that this is a warranty issue and is to be replaced by a dealership for free. The item that needs to be repaired is a fuel filler tube. I don’t wanna spend the money on buying the part myself if this is something that is covered by the dealership through the factory. This happens every time I fill the tank and has been an ongoing problem for over a year almost 2 years. I have to fill it very slowly with gas as well. I cannot fill it fast as it will stop automatically. The part number is 52060489ah.
Fuel overflow problem. It happens every time I fill up the gas tank.
Every time I fill the fuel tank it will overflow quite profusely. Not just a trickle, but more like a quart or more. Not only is this manufactured defect a costly inconvenience, but a possibly dangerous situation. Not to mention stinking like gasoline when I arrive at my destination, which was Sunday church service the last time. Research has shown me there has been recalls for this issue on Jeeps very near my vehicle's "birthday". I grew up pumping gas for my parents at the station, but now I have to be sure there is a "splash zone" of at least 5 feet of distance from the filler so innocent bystanders don't get splattered. I have been verbally attacked numerous times at the pump because of this manufacturer defect. Now I know perfection can be unattainable, lots of quirky parts in vehicles today, but I can honestly say this situation alone is keeping me from being an advocate of what I once thought was a great buy. I have replaced the steering damper that created the now legendary death wobble, and personally dealt with evap system part failures. Repairing those issues myself doesn't bother me, but the fuel tank is another story. This is something that should absolutely be addressed. If im required by the government to pass an e-check so minimal fumes don't enter the atmosphere, then this needs to be replaced/corrected immediately because all these Jeeps are dumping fuel on the ground all over the world! also ive learned about a mopar replacement filler tube with a check valve built in. I feel this issue should be recognized as a recall, or exposed for the environmental hypocrisy it creates.
When filling my 2009 Jeep Wrangler with gas, the fuel overflows - often so much that it spills onto the ground. No matter how slowly or cautiously I pump the fuel, it still overflows. This has happened on multiple occasions. It is my opinion that there is a malfunction in the vehicle. I have researched the matter and found that apparently I am not the only one having this issue. I ask that this be deemed a recall - and that the company pays to fix it. This malfunction could cause a fire and other issues related to gasoline exposure.
Any time you fuel this vehicle the fuel gushes out of the filler neck. We have tried several different fueling stations . Different times of the day and night. Nothing changes , the fuel still blows out. Sometimes even if you pump slow it will still spew back out. Not every station has the rubber splash guards on their nozzles. The reason this is a danger is very obvious. Gasoline has a low flash point , not to mention the health risk of the vapors. One freak spark unrelated to me fueling could have deadly consequences. I spoke to Jeep headquarters about this issue. They refused to give me the lot number for the faulty fuel tanks. The fuel tanks that had issues was on 2008 and earlier Jeep Wranglers. Our Jeep was manufactured in 2/2009 and from what I have gathered uses the exact same tank as the 2008 and earlier tanks back to a certain year. Is it to far fetched to believe that the tank installed could be faulty , just like the earlier ones. Just so we are clear this has been occuring since we purchased the Jeep and continues to. I would like Jeep to replace the tank or the valve in the tank. They could install the retro fit repair . I don't feel as an owner we should have the burden of replacing the tank.
While fueling the pump will automatically click off, but fuel will spill out onto the vehicle, myself, and the ground, huge safety and environmental concern.
Fuel runs out when filling up Jeep at the gas pump happens every time I fill up.
I have a problem with fuel overflowing every time I go to the gas station. I've tried different pumps and different gas stations and have the same problem every time. I bought the car 1 month ago and iyhe overflow has been a constant problem. After researching this problem online, I see this is a problem for many Jeep Wrangler owners. This is a costly and potentially dangerous issue.
When refueling the pump always stops even if empty, this makes it very hard to know if it's already full or if it's just acting up. This has been happening for a couple years now, and it happens 100% of the times I refuel. I have read in forums this is a very common issue and some years have been fixed. This is a potential fire hazard since fuel spills are very common with this problem.
Constant overflow while fueling (~80% of time). I do not use anything but reg grade fuel. I do not hold the fueling hose. It does not matter if I put the hose in all the way or slightly out. It typically overflows about 1/2 to 1 pint creating a fire hazard and an environmental issue.
Each time I fill my Jeep with gas there is a gushing of gas at the end of fill up. Each time I fill it up the Jeep doesnt want to take the gas either. It was when the vehicle is stationary at a gas station.
When I refuel, when pump stops gas comes out.
When filling up my 2 door Jeep Wrangler it never fails to overflow, it doesn't matter what pump I use or how fast or slow I fill up. I have researched that they fixed a couple years and mine doesn't fit into that. I feel it is very frustrating that they won't fix all years considering they know this is a common issue and a safety hazzard as the gas doesn't just get all over my vehicle and the ground but myself as well. This has been happening for a couple months, I thought it was maybe the pump or the way I was pumping the gas and nothing I have done to change it has helped.
My Jeep has been having an ongoing issue while fueling. After the fuel filling nozzle automatically shuts off it will spit out fuel all over me and my vehicle. I understand that the warranty on 2007-2008 Jeep Wrangler jks has been extended to be a lifetime warranty and mine does not fall under the warranty, even though it is the same issue. This is not just an inconvenience. Gasoline can contain hydrocarbons, parafins, olefins, cycloalkanes, oxygenators, and aromatics including benzene which is a known human carcinogen. This fueling issue is not only a safety and environmental concern but it is also a health concern for your customers.
Same issue as with 2007-2008 Jeep jk fuel spits out when done fueling, no changes to fuel system so why only have a recall on 07-08 and not all Jeep jk?.
Purchased vehicle last year, suddenly when filling the fuel, at the point the pump automatically shuts off the gas back blows dumping a substantial amount of fuel on you and the ground. This never happened before January of this year and has happened the last three times I have fueled my vehicle at different pumps.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. While refueling the vehicle, it experienced an overflow of fuel. The failure occurred without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel tube was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000.
Fuel overflows when filling up vehicle.
Fuel spits back when fueling. This happens everything we fuel up and is creating a dangerous situation. The local Jeep dealer tells me there was an extended warranty offered for 2007 and 2008 Jeep Wranglers but my 2009 was not included in the extended warranty.
Almost every time I fill up my Jeep and use the automatic shut-off on the pump, it will shut off and then puke some gas out the filler hole and down the side of the Jeep. Jeep won't cover it because it wasnt a 2007 or 2008 my with same known issue.
When filling with gas, when the pump clicks off about a pint or more of gasoline comes rushing back out of the filler tube at the operator. It is very unsafe. Chrysler knows about this problem and refuses to do anything about it. I sede on the Jeepforum this is a know problem, very scary and unsafe.
When filling up gas take, it does not stop automatically when full like it used to. Gas overflows out of filler tube down the side of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler. Issue did not start until vehicle had 65k miles on it.
Every time I fill my Jeep up, it will overfill and spill out of the hose and onto the fender. I can stop for a couple of seconds before it gets full and add gas slowly and it will stop. I wipe it off every time but it still leaves residue on the fender and side of my Jeep. It also leaves a small puddle in the ground. This is a very bad issue and needs to be fixed.
Every top off about a quart of fuel escapes past the hose handle that has already clicked off. It goes over the ground, car, and me. Serious safety concerns.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while refueling, fuel would spew back out of the filler neck without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 36,000 and the current mileage was 39,000.
When filling my vehicle with gas it over flows after the nozzle shuts off. Causing gas to spill on me. My vehicle and the ground I have seen numerous complaints on this vehicle.
When fueling up the gas pumps continually shut off every few seconds. Gas comes out of the filler tube onto me, the vehicle and the ground. No fire yet. Had this fixed under warranty a couple years back and now happening again???.
Bought my 2009 Wrangler x 2 door automatic with 13k miles and perfect condition with all the bells and whistles. Signed loan papers and drove around the corner to my work to fill up on gas. While pumping gas, gas squirted back out of the filler neck and covered my pants, boots, the side of the Jeep and ran down the paint and onto the tires and rims as well. Gas everywhere! had no change of clothes and nothing to wipe gas off the paint, tires, and plastic fender. Extremely dangerous! every fill up results in gas spewing out onto the Jeep and ground and if my wife, kids, or me isn't paying attention then we are wearing the gas as well. Thank god no open flame or kaboom. I see fixes for 2007/2008 but apparently other years suffer as well with this dangerous problem. Immediate fix needed. May consult legal advice on this matter as dealership refuses help.
Gas sprays out of filler neck during fueling of vehicle. During fill ups gas will spray out of filler neck before the gas nozzle can shut off automatically. This results in having gas sprayed on myself, my Jeep and all over the ground. This is not a safe situation.
Fuel flashes from filler neck at every fuel up. I've covered by it a few times, and had to clean up fuel at 1 station.
While fueling my vehicle the automatic shutoff on the fuel nozzle shuts off and shortly after fuel begins to come back up out of the Jeep and down the side. Has happened numerous times.
Has happened numerous times, gas fill-up overflow. Gas spews out all over Jeep and anyone standing near it.
My 2009 Wrangler has an overfilling problem every single time I fill up at the gas station. It doesn't matter if I use the lowest setting on the gas pump or if I manually use as little pressure as possible. It overfills every single time and gas pours out of the fill spout running down the body of the vehicle on my hand on my clothes and on the ground. My mechanic has been in touch with Jeep who claims they haven't heard of this problem, and he has also contacted Chrysler corporation who has not returned his phone calls. At this point I just want the problem fixed because this is a hazardous material that is pouring out onto my car, my body, my clothes, and the ground. Some answers and/or action from Jeep/Chrysler would be great!.
When fueling, gasoline will splash back from the filler before the pump stops causing gas to spill on the side of the vehicle and on the ground. It happens at any gas station anytime the vehicle is filled up.
Fuel spills out after fueling.
