37 problems related to other fuel system tank assembly have been reported for the 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
There is no safety stop on the fuel line. Every time the tank is filled it overflows spilling gas everywhere. This is not new, but finally reporting it. There are tons of people complaining about this on the internet.
Cracked fuel tank, found through a smoke test.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. While fueling the vehicle, fuel spilled onto the ground. The vehicle was taken to walker Chrysler Dodge Jeep and ram (5757 coliseum boulevard, alexandria, la 71301, (318) 618-0103) where it was diagnosed that the fuel filler neck and fuel tank needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the 2007 and 2008 Jeep Wranglers received the manufacturer warranted replacement for the fuel neck and the fuel tank; however, the 2009 Wrangler was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000.
When refueling, regardless of fill level the gas will not flow into tank properly on level ground, and spews out all over the ground/car/person. It will not take fuel in any position. It takes about 10-15 minutes to refuel from empty. It will take gas until the filler neck fills up and then you have to stop and let it drain into tank. You have to repeat this over and over again until full.
When fililng the fuel tank, no matter which gas station I use, the tank overflows when full, spilling gasoline before the pump shutoff can activate. This is stationary, turned off, and level. I've owned this car since Feb 2015 and it is a highly repeatable problem.
Gas tank skid pla rusted through. Gas tank ready to fall off 2009 Jeep. 88k miles and parked in garage. Pieces missing and cracked lengthwise and widthwise.
Everytime I fill up my gas tank it overflows!!! leaving gas all over the ground, me and my poor Jeep. With gas running on my bumper and well discoloring it. Please fix this issue.
When using a gas pump to auto-fill the tank, the pump shuts off and the tank overflows some of the fuel onto the paint on the outside of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler. Doesn't matter what gas station I go to, the style of nozzle, or the angle the nozzle is used at. It over fills every time. This Jeep Wrangler x was recently purchased in November 2017 with 90, 961 miles. Started early November. I recently sold my 1997 Jeep Wrangler which I had driven over 178,523 miles in the 18 years of ownership never experienced this problem not even once. Initially I thought it was operator error until I read the compliants on the internet from other Jeep owners and the NHTSA website.
Gas tank overflows every time I fill the tank. Internal flange is either non-existent, damaged, or inoperable as this happens every time I fill the tank. Unless I stop the fill short of 16 gallons, gas spills all over the Jeep & usually all over myself as well.
Whenever I fill my tank up, the gas spills over onto the car, the ground, and myself. About a quart spills over so could be potentially very dangerous.
Fuel spills every time that I fill up the tank during the winter. This appears to be a known issue with Jeep Wranglers, but not with this model year/VIN. Although I have entered todays date below, this has happened since the car was new. I have contacted Jeep customer service regarding this issue.
I just purchased the Jeep 2 months ago and ever single time without exception I get fuel spit back when fueling the Jeep. When fueling the Jeep the nozzle at the pump will cut off and 1-2 seconds later gas comes shooting out of the fuel tank. Today 3/2/2016 I could hear the sound change just before the nozzle cut off and tried to stop fueling before the spit back but was still to late. The behicle was stationary and shut off at the gas station. This happens weather it is hot or cold high elevation or lower. Denver is/was 60 degrees today. 5280 elevation. Last weekend in winter park 28 degrees and over 9000 elevation. Next time I fill up I will film the spit back.
Every single time I fill up my gas tank with gas it over flows. I have to try and listen for the sound of the fuel level getting close so I can let go of the pump handle in time so it doesn't flow over but many times with the noise of the station I'm too late and it dumps fuel down the side of my car, sometimes even spraying out the top and shooting gas over me. It's disgusting and wastes a lot of fuel. I go home stinking like gas and it's dangerous! please make Chrysler fix this issue. The 'when did this happen' question below doesn't really apply to this issue because it happens every single time I fill up. I chose the date of my last fill up.
Every time I have filled up the gas tank and used the gas pumps automatic stop, the gas overflows out of the tank and onto the ground. The last time it happened was this morning, 2/15/2016.
Takata recall - when pumping gas into the vehicle gas continues to flow when the tank becomes full and gas pushes out over the opening and splashes gas over the paint and moldings of the Jeep. I've also been splashed and it usually leaves a puddle. This is a defect and needs to be rectified by Chrysler/Jeep.
When fueling my 2009 Jeep Wrangler unlimited (sahara), gas spews back out of the tank following the auto shut off of the gas pump. This is my second fill-up since purchasing the Jeep new and it has happened both time. It occurred at different gas stations so it isn't a problem with the pump or nozzle. The Jeep is not properly ventilating the gas and detecting the level so as to prevent the gas blow back.
Every time I fill the gas tank up the gas pump shuts off and all the gas in the filler neck comes back out all over me , the Jeep and all over the ground.
Gas tank over flows everytime I fill gas tank, goes all over the side of the car, all over the ground and gets on me . It's dangerous, wastefull and is damaging the finish on the outside of vehicle. Mfg says it's not covered under any recalls. Note: happens regardless of which gas station , which setting on the pump handle or how far the gas nozzle is inserted into filler tube. Internet search shows other years have been recalled for condition.
I just purchased my 4 door, 09 Wrangler on Thursday March 13. I first had to fill it up that Saturday the 15nd. When I did, the gas tank clicked off but gas still came pouring out of the tank (not the nozzle). I was incredibly irritated I just bought this Jeep and now there was gas pouring down the side and fenders. After cleaning it up I chaulked it up as faulty equiptment at the gas staion. However, the next 2 times I filled up, the same thing happened. This is incredibly frustrating. Not only is it dangerous but its disgusting. Not to mention these vehicles aren't cheap, we dont need to be worried about gas eating away at the vehicle as another expensive. I've heard there are several complaints regarding this issue and that Chrysler refuses to address it. I find this embarrassing on their part and shows poor business practice.
During refueling for the last several months we have experience fuel spit back. This has resulted in fuel spilling on person doing the refueling, fuel on vehicle and ground, enough were the attendant must clean up excess fuel on the ground. This is near the exhaust, extreme fire danger, and personal injury and/or death. Research shows that 2007-2008 Jeeps have had a recall for this issue. Chrysler has had this issue for years. My gas tank needs to be replaced as the check valve is in the tank at a cost of $600. 00 + labor & tax. Respectfully request this matter gets investigated prior to major incident involving explosion and/ or fire.
Fuel spurts out of gas tank all over after gas nozzle is removed when getting gas. Vehicle has trouble starting and feels like it is going to stall out at all speeds.
Gas is ejected out of fuel filler when tank is filled everytime. I have tried several different stations all with the same result of about 3 cups of fuel ejected on car and the ground. Two service stations have asked that I do not return because of the fuel spill danger this creates at the service station. I have contacted Jeep and two dealerships both acknowledging that they are aware of the problem and recalled the 2007 and 2008 Wranglers for this but 2009 has not been added to the recall. This is a fire and eviromental hazard to humans and the enviroment.
Fuel spits back during refueling cause: valve integrated in fuel tank is defective, tank requires replacement. Previous model year had the same issue and a service-bulletin was issued (14-001-11) with unlimited time and mileage expiration. It appears to me that the gas tank has a design flaw and somehow a defective tank was placed in my vehicle, I believe my vehicle should apply to the service bulletin the symptoms and corrective action are the same.
Recurring problem of fuel overflow spillage at the gas pump for the past year. Regardless of which fuel station I use, the pump does not shut off automatically causing fuel to spill out of the vehicle onto the ground. In researching the problem it appears it may be based on a faulty manufacturer part (fuel tank). If this occurs on other Jeeps, the fuel spilled at these gas stations create potential tph contamination on the property. I am concerned with the role I play on a potential benzene plume in groundwater due from spills at gas stations as well as the damage I am doing to the exterior of my vehicle from fuel spilling over the side causing accelerated corrosion on the body of the vehicle.
The fuel tank is leaking. Fuel has substantially corroded the protective skidplate under the fuel tank. Source of leak likely above fuel tank, perhaps the fuel line itself.
Starting last fall, the vehicle spits back a cup or two of fuel every time I fill up the tank.
Every time I fill the gas tank, ever since I first bought it, it will spill gas upon shutting the pump off at top off. This was a problem with the 07/08 models to the point of a factory tank replacement, but the 09 model is not covered for some reason and should be. It will eventually ruin the paint and possibly the bumper cosmetics as well. Please help.
Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that when refueling, fuel would spew out of the fuel tank and splash onto the contact and the vehicle. The contact did not have a diagnostic test performed by a dealer or a local mechanic. The contact called the manufacturer regarding the fuel tank and the manufacturer advised the contact to have the vehicle diagnosed by an authorized dealer. The failure mileage was 37,100. Kmj.
Everytime I fill up for gas and have it use the automatic shut off the gas tank overflows out of the tank and over my car, I have talked to other Jeep owners and this is a very common problem. There is a recall for 07 and 08 Wranglers but seems that there needs to be a recall for all Wranglers because it happens to a lot of people no matter the year.
It started more than a year ago. Everytime I fill my tank it overflows gas everywhere. It does not stop automatically like it should. Gas flows all over the ground and not just a little bit. I know there was a recall for 2008 Jeeps but I feel it has affected 2009 Jeeps and newer. I read about this problem on jeeo forums all the time. My dealer said they will not fix it.
Everytime I fill me tank fuel spits out of the filler neck. It doesn't matter if I fill the tank slow or fast. I have tried many different gas stations and still no luck. Its so bad that it spits up over the entire rear quarter panel, the ground and your cloths and shoes if your not aware its going to happen. From my understanding there is the same problem with the 2007-2008 and they are recalling the tanks.
Splash back of gasoline when beginning to fuel vehicle. Gas pump continues to shut off throughout the refueling process as if the tank is full. Gasoline can only be added a few seconds at a time. Splash back throughout the refueling process.
When putting gas in the tank, gasoline sprays out of the filler tube and splashes gas on me, the side of the vehicle and onto the ground. This occurs everytime I fill the tank. I have tried different gas stations and the problem still occures. The first couple of times this happened, gasoline had sprayed out of the filler tube and onto me and my clothes. Now when I fill the tank, I must stand upwind and away from the filler tube to avoid getting sprayed with gas. This problem needs to be addressed! the same defect was reported in the 2007 & 2008 Jeeps. It would appear that the same defect is now being reported multiple times for the 2009 model. Gasoline that is sprayed onto people and the ground is a fire hazzard! I refuse to let my wife and kids put gas in the Jeep, in fear that they will be soaked in gasoline. I have contacted my local Jeep dealership and was told that no recall and no safety bulletins have been issued for the 2009 model. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the filler neck valve would spew gasoline when attempting to refuel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who diagnosed that the fuel tank was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.
When gassing up and the tank is full, fuel frequently squirts out and runs down the side of my vehicle onto the ground. Several times it has splashed on my clothes, shoes, and skin. This is a safety hazard. This started in about 2011 and has continued off and on since. It is more prevalent in cold weather.
