37 problems related to other fuel system tank assembly have been reported for the 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While fueling up at gas station, station fuel nozzle did not shut off after tank was filled. It is now March of 2014. The problems with fueling up have gotten much worse. It seemed to be sporadic when the vehicle was a couple years old. When traveling out of NJ, I can usually stop the gas flow before it overfills. Currently, NJ is not self serve, and the attendants tell me that this is a Jeep issue. I became curious and looked at this NHTSA site and found that this is not an isolated issue. 2009 Jeep is now out of warranty.
Fuel spills out of the tank when the tank is full. I never top off after the pump stops. This first occurred a few years ago and then didn't happen again for a while, but lately, it has become more frequent, and seems to be worsening. At first, the spill would be minor and occurred only when I took the nozzle out of the tank. A couple weeks ago, gas was spilling out of my tank just as the pump stopped. Today, gas was squirting out of the tank and onto me. Very concerned about potential dangers of spilled fuel--fire, environmental, personal injury from contact with gas, damage to vehicle.
