Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problems of the 2009 Jeep Wrangler

Four problems related to rear suspension shock absorber have been reported for the 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2017

Death wobble - severe bouncing of front end when hitting a bump going around 60 mph. This has happen over 10 times in the last three months and after I had a new steering stabilizer (horizontal shock absorber) installed on front axel.

2 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2017

The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. While driving 50 mph, the vehicle struck a bump in the road and wobbled violently. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the stabilizer bar, pittman bar, and stabilizing shock absorbers failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired again. A dealer (advantage Dodge ram Chrysler Jeep 3200 e. Main street, farmington, nm 87402) was contacted, but did not provide any assistance. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA. The contact did not file a complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

3 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2014

Experienced violent shaking of the front suspension and steering while travelling on a freeway access road at approximately 50mph; situation commonly referred to as the death wobble. Inspection revealed a leaking steering stabilizer which was promptly replaced. Situation recurred approximately 3 weeks later and the stabilizer was again leaking. Another stabilizer was installed. Situation recurred again after 3 weeks but the stabilizer was not leaking. The track bar was replaced along with the mounting bolts and the tires were balanced and rotated. Situation recurred within 24 hours. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop that replaced the upper and lower ball joints and aligned the frontend. Situation returned later that day and repair shop replaced the shock absorbers. Situation recurred within 24 hours and the vehicle was parked due to being unsafe to drive. Situation currently unresolved.

4 Rear Suspension Shock Absorber problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4x4. The contact stated that when driving over any uneven road surface, the vehicle would shake violently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times in regards to the failure and the front shock absorbers were replaced twice but to no avail. The manufacturer was contacted but provided no assistance. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 8,000 and the current mileage was 34,000.
