4 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2020

Experienceing the well known death wobble in front suspension at speeds around 50 mph. Have tried multiple fixes yet condition still remains. Also will go into death wobble at other speeds if hit a pothole or bridge to road gap, hump or bump in road. This Jeep has no custom modifications. 2009 Jeep Wrangler with only 26000 miles, new tires, have experienced this death wobble shortly after purchasing it new from the dealer. I also own ram trucks and fixed the death wobble on my 2005 ram with new track bar bushings. Bushings in my 2009 Jeep show no play at all.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving down a hill on a bridge the front end started to wobble rapidly "the death wobble". The same incident happened two weeks later with the front end starting to wobble again going down a hill. The right front tire had two lug nuts tear off from the vibrations of the "death wobble". The contact called an independent mechanic after researching the issue on the internet. The issue was with a shock in the front end rods or steering dampener. The vehicle was repaired with the independent mechanic. The unknown dealer stated that there was no recall on the issue before the vehicle was repaired by the independent mechanic. The failure mileage was 102,600. Tf.

I have a stock Jeep. I have spent thousands to fix the Jeep death wobble and the mopar track bar is not strong enough to stop it! I have replaced it 3 times this year!! this has been an ongoing issue for the last 2 years! I love my Jeep but may have to give it up!.

9 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2018

While driving at highway speeds and upon hitting rough road conditions the front on the Jeep begins to shake uncontrollably. You must slow or come to a stop to make it go away. This has happened four times to me. It is by far the most terrifying thing that has ever happened to me in 50 years of driving. The dealer has told me it was worn dampeners and replaced them. Of course this did not happen for the first 50k miles, so I must wait until the conditions appear again to see if the problem is solved.

10 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

When I purchased the vehicle I had noticed it made a noice , I had a mechanic take a look at it and mentioned the sub frame was welded and that the car was very rusted and falling apart. I went back with in the 15 days and under 500 miles and brought it to jason's attention (the person ho sold me the vehicle, jason argued that all Jeeps sub frames are like that from factory, even tried comparing it to another Jeep he had. I had took the Jeep to a few shops for evaluation and all of them came back with the same bad results that the car was a safety hazard. The vehicle was advertised at dealer "that car place" as a good reliable and safe car. My big cocern is that I know very little about cars and I don't feel comfortable in a car that has safety hazards for others and my own safety. I had requested a different vehicle and the reply I gt from jason was that he couldn't do that because he had brought down the price an had given me a discount. I don't think its fair for him to use that excuse and deny my request just because I didn't ask him to it was by his choice.

11 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2018

Death wobble in suspension while driving. Has happened since owning vehicle. The vehicle will begin to uncontrollably shake in a violent manner at a speeds at or near 60 mph. The wobble is persistent and well documented on the internet. Jeep refuses to officially accept a problem exists even though Wrangler owners have complained in thousands of posts viewable online. I have had my Jeep in multiple times for this and the problem still persists.

12 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2017

Experienced the violent shaking of the front suspension and steering wheel while traveling at approximately 55 mph. Apparently this is referred to as a "death wobble" but a recall has not been issued yet. My best guess is, after multiple people die from this malfunction and sue the Chrysler/Jeep corporation, then it a recall might be issued and the problem fixed! I am highly agitated by this issue and the reoccurence!!!!!.

13 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2017

Car shakes violently between 50-55 mph. Front steering stabilizer has been replaced three times, "death wobble" still occurs. Happens on smooth, non-bumpy roads as well as bumpy ones.

14 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2017

When driving between 45 and 55 mph the Jeep will begin to violently shake so bad it is hard to control the steering wheel, and the only remedy is to slow down or come to a complete stop. The violent shaking is intermittent, I am able to drive the same route with no problem, and other times the vehicle will go into a violent shake.

15 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2016

When driving the Jeep on the expressway, the entire front end started shimmying from side to side, threatening to pull the steering wheel out of my hands. It stopped when I reduced speed to under 55 mph. Whenever I tried to go over 55 mph, the Jeep resumed it's death wobble. This is not a safe condition to be driving a vehicle in.

16 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2016

Driving on the interstate at a constant speed and hit a rough area on the pavement and the vehicle began to vibrate and rock back and forth violently. I was able to steer it, but had to pull off the road for this violent rocking to stop. It is not a constant problem, but occurs when certain rough areas of pavement set up this violent vibration. This has occurred on numerous occasions over the last several years. Tried to get it fixed, seemed to be a mystery. Learned that this is experienced by many owners of Jeeps and other select vehicles. There are many, many descriptions and videos on the internet. I also see complaints of this on your site. Why do you not care? why are you not doing your job? I did not get killed. Is this what it takes for you to take notice? I want nothing, only for this to be remedied. It is certainly a safety concern & quite frightening, especially then this occurs in heavy traffic.

17 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2016

Experienced "death wobble" twice in past month - uncontrollable shaking of front end at speed after hitting minor bump in highway. Almost caused accident. Had to slow to near stop on highway for shaking to subside.

18 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2016

Driving on I-81, in virginia and hit a bump in the road. The steering and suspension in the front end began shaking violently and forced me to pull over into the emergency lane. This same event occurred 3 times during this trip.

19 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2016

Violent shaking of vehicle occurred when we hit a bump while driving on expressway 55mph. Pulled off road, local mechanics could find no identifiable cause. Tested Jeep on road and did not happen again while mechanic drove at 60mph (we did not hit a bump on this test drive).

20 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2016

Violent shaking of the steering wheel when the Jeep goes over a bump in the road. This is a regular occurrence. The last incident, the hazard lights on the dash panel came on and have not been able to turn off since then. Happens mostly on the highway or when the vehicle is traveling at 45-55 mph.

21 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2016

My Jeep has the death wobble. I have had it in the shop twice to get it fixed and spent over $3,000 so far to fix the problem and it has not be resolved! new parts and new tires have not helped. Someone is going to get hurt or killed. It happens all the time.

22 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2016

Usually after hitting a bump, the tire(s) begin to shake violently and do not stop until slowing down significantly or coming to a complete stop. From what I've researched, this appears to be a common problem with Jeep owners and can be very dangerous. This started a few months ago on my Jeep and appears to happen more frequently.

23 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/28/2016

Driving north bound on interstate 89 in new hampshire approximately 65 mph, drove over a bridge abutment and the front end of my 2009 Jeep Wrangler start to violently shake. The violent shaking didn't stop until I slowed to 30 mph.

24 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 03/19/2016

I have a 2009 Jeep Wrangler rubicon. I drove cross country in 2010 (military move) and got the tires rotated after the long drive. When I did, while driving over a bridge outside of washington DC, my car started shaking uncontrollably and I thought I was going to fall off the side of the bridge and fall into the water 100 feet down. Luckily it stopped once I slowed down to under 10 miles per hour. I took it to the dealership, and they blamed the tires. They never said anything about the known death wobble, so while I didn't fully believe it, I just replaced the tires and didn't have any issues for a while. I recently moved to northern California this summer for work, and have to now drive over more bumpy windy mountain roads. Now, any time I am driving over 45mph on these windy roads, particularly when going downhill, the whole Jeep shakes uncontrollably. I haven't gone off the side of a cliff yet - but I feel like I might at any point during one of these drives. And where I live now, I have to drive these roads, which is scary for my wife and I and our two young kids. The Jeep is almost paid off - but not yet, so I'd trade it in, but will lose alot of money to do that - and was hoping to have this Jeep for years after I paid off the Jeep - but am not so sure now. I also was a loyal Jeep customer, until now.

25 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2015

09 Jeep Wrangler hits a bump in the road and goes in a violent vibration (wobbling to the point you think you are going to lose control of the car. Very scary! I own the car since new. Investigated the issue on line and and found out not the only one with this issue. So called death wobble!.

26 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2015

My 2009 Jeep Wrangler 4dr jk suffers from the "death wobble" whenever driving over 55 mph and hitting a bump a certain way. This has happened multiple times causing the Jeep to shake uncontrollably and having to stop to get the Jeep under control. Becomes a life or death situation if happens on a busy highway/bridge/etc. This is a serious safety issue that must be addressed. There are countless examples from other owners who suffer from this same predicament.

27 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/21/2015

Travelling on a straight road at approximately 50-60mph, hit a small bump in the road. The steering wheel began to shake a little then violently and almost lost control of the Jeep. I had to come to a compete stop in the middle of the road before the shaking would stop. I was scared too death. I had the Jeep checked over and nothing was broken or worn. Now afraid to drive the vehicle. There are many complaints on this site as well as the internet for the same issue. When will this be addressed before someone gets killed?.

28 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2015

Known as the "death wobble. " this has occurred four times to me on the interstate traveling approximately 50-70 miles per hour. Had to come to complete stop before the severe shaking from the front end and steering wheel would cease. Very dangerous and it is a huge safety issue that the manufacturer must address and stop denying happens. They should also repair the car free of charge. This has happened to me on sept. 12, 2015, oct. 4th, 2015, oct. 13th, 2015, and October 25, 2015. All incidents occurred on the highway except for the first incidence which was on a regular road going about 25 miles per hour.

29 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Bought a used 2009 Jeep didn't know anything about a death wobble. I was going down the interstate at about 60 mph hit a bump and the Jeep started shaking violently. Almost got hit trying to get off the interstate and stop. It does it every time I hit a bump in the road. Now I don't know what to do becasue we bought it used.

30 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2014

Death wobble, the front wheels will shake violently at around 55 mph or lower speeds when I hit a bump or anything on the road that makes the tires wobble. This happens at least 4 times a week.

31 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

I have a 2009 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x, purchased new. A few years after purchase I began experiencing death wobble. a mechanic's diagnostic stated my track bar was bent and my bushings were worn and needed replacing as a result of all the violent side to side shaking. This was repaired at great expense out of pocket. This repair seemed effective for some time before the speed wobble started up again this past year. During one episode, the harsh shaking caused my left side blinkers and brake light to fail. No one should reasonably be expected to operate a vehicle when it has the potential to suddenly, unexpectedly, uncontrollably, violently, harshly, and dangerously start shaking, especially while in operation at highway speeds. I avoid driving on the highway anymore because I can't keep up with the flow of traffic before jarring shaking will start. Any driving is now increasingly dangerous to me, my passengers, and other nearby drivers. The uncontrollably violent shaking is difficult to control, frightening, and forces me to abruptly pull over, greatly increasing my chances of being severely injured or even killed in an accident. It is not right for Jeep owners to suffer this. This is a known issue for Jeep. They should be liable for and reimburse Jeep owners any and all costs associated with repairs, alternate transportation, injuries, deaths, distress, or any other conditions or complications arising from, related to, or otherwise resulting from death wobble. causes for this hazard vary, so diagnostics and repairs can be extremely lengthy and costly, not to mention repairs needed for other areas of the vehicle worn and damaged as a result of such aggressively unsafe shaking. This is not standard wear and tear, but a serious, dangerous and potentially deadly issue that should be addressed and corrected by NHTSA, the center for auto safety, lawyers, and courts.

32 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Around 30,000 miles I would notice a slight shimmy in the front end at freeway speeds when a small bump was hit. This would usually last a few seconds and then drive normal. I read some thing online about this and it seemed like it was a normal thing for this 4dr Jeep model. In early March 2014 about 39000 miles I hit a big bump on the freeway and the front end shimmy was so intense I thought the front passenger tire was flat at first it seemed like it was coming off. A few hours later this happened again before I made it home. I did research and found the references to the "death wobble" and knew that's what it was. I was thankful no one else was in the car with me. Another Jeep owner I know knew the term and had heard about these problems. Then April 1st hit a bump I could not avoid on the pot hole infested milwaukee streets and it happened again the tire felt like it was coming off and almost had accident in the construction zone I was in. Called dealer and they knew exactly what I was talking about. Apparently Chrysler switched the dampener/brackets after the 2009 yr models when they noticed problems. Funny how that replacement I had to have done cost me $ 400+. You would think if they know there was a problem this wouldn't cost the consumer a penny. Especially since it is my life in jepardy.

33 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2014

While driving on the highway around 65 mph I encountered a bump in the road and the front of the car began to shake uncontrollably. I had to come to a complete stop on the highway to regain control of the vehicle. I got out of the vehicle and checked for any visible issues, but found nothing, so I continued with my trip. This occurred again later that same day in very similar circumstances, I was traveling around 65 mph hit a dip in the road, at a transition where the bridge overpass meets the asphalt, the car again began to shake uncontrollably in the front of the vehicle, and I had to stop the vehicle again to regain control and stop the shaking. After a little research I learned this is a know issue with Jeeps know as the Jeep death wobble.

34 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2014

When my Jeep hits a bump the front end shakes violently. It will continue until I come to a complete stop.

35 Suspension problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2013

Death wobble, uncontrollable violent shaking between 30 & 50 mph. Serious safety issue at highway speeds being unable to control the vehicle's steering out of harms way. I have had it to two different dealerships three different times and I'm told that there is nothing wrong with it. It's obvious that there is a problem and I'm not the only one with this issue. A quick internet search on Jeep death wobble will confirm this. Chrysler needs to be held accountable and fix this problem before someone gets killed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
