Experiencing the death wobble.
The Jeep has less than 40. 000 is and is not used off road. About 55mph the front end gets a out of control wobble. You have to slow way down for it to stop. It has done a few times before. The last time it was 4/29/20. The track bar was replaced with oem part and still does it. It seems to be a problem with a lot of Wrangler Jeeps. I don't know if it is a design flaw. Doing some research it seems to be a problem with Jeeps. This Jeep it completely stock with the same tires it came with new.
Severe vibration when over 40 mph. Mainly after hitting a pot hole. Death wobble !.
Experiencing "death wobble" when driving over a bump at 40-50 miles per hour. Not safe to drive in.
Experienced the violent shaking of the front suspension and steering wheel while traveling at approximately 55 mph. Apparently this is referred to as a "death wobble" but a recall has not been issued yet. My best guess is, after multiple people die from this malfunction and sue the Chrysler/Jeep corporation, then it a recall might be issued and the problem fixed! I am highly agitated by this issue and the reoccurence!!!!!.
Car shakes violently between 50-55 mph. Front steering stabilizer has been replaced three times, "death wobble" still occurs. Happens on smooth, non-bumpy roads as well as bumpy ones.
On 17 Apr 2017 I was driving 70mph on us-31 & hit a bump & my Jeep went into the "death wobble" & I had to slow down & go to the shoulder. The steering wheel shook very bad. The local Jeep dealer called it the "death wobble"!.
Death wobble at approx. 45mph.
When driving the Jeep on the expressway, the entire front end started shimmying from side to side, threatening to pull the steering wheel out of my hands. It stopped when I reduced speed to under 55 mph. Whenever I tried to go over 55 mph, the Jeep resumed it's death wobble. This is not a safe condition to be driving a vehicle in.
Driving on the interstate at a constant speed and hit a rough area on the pavement and the vehicle began to vibrate and rock back and forth violently. I was able to steer it, but had to pull off the road for this violent rocking to stop. It is not a constant problem, but occurs when certain rough areas of pavement set up this violent vibration. This has occurred on numerous occasions over the last several years. Tried to get it fixed, seemed to be a mystery. Learned that this is experienced by many owners of Jeeps and other select vehicles. There are many, many descriptions and videos on the internet. I also see complaints of this on your site. Why do you not care? why are you not doing your job? I did not get killed. Is this what it takes for you to take notice? I want nothing, only for this to be remedied. It is certainly a safety concern & quite frightening, especially then this occurs in heavy traffic.
Deadh wobble, really bad vibration coming from the front , especially after going over pothole or railroad tracks, speeds over 30 mph . Its getting to the point where is very easy to someone to loose control of the vehicle and could easily cause hard to the driver or others including dead, Jeep should be aware of this problem is not safe to drive a vehicle that wobbles to the point is not safe to operate. A person could get hurt if this ploblem doest get look into it. You guys are more than welcome to test my vehicle and see if you guys would drive a vehicle like this on the daily basis, is like a bomb ready to explode at any time. Is dangerous to drive. Please take a look at this before someone gets hurt, I am also documenting that I submitted this request to you guys just encase something happens to me or anyone. I will say I told you so.
Driving on I-81, in virginia and hit a bump in the road. The steering and suspension in the front end began shaking violently and forced me to pull over into the emergency lane. This same event occurred 3 times during this trip.
Violent shaking of the steering wheel when the Jeep goes over a bump in the road. This is a regular occurrence. The last incident, the hazard lights on the dash panel came on and have not been able to turn off since then. Happens mostly on the highway or when the vehicle is traveling at 45-55 mph.
My Jeep has the death wobble. I have had it in the shop twice to get it fixed and spent over $3,000 so far to fix the problem and it has not be resolved! new parts and new tires have not helped. Someone is going to get hurt or killed. It happens all the time.
Driving north bound on interstate 89 in new hampshire approximately 65 mph, drove over a bridge abutment and the front end of my 2009 Jeep Wrangler start to violently shake. The violent shaking didn't stop until I slowed to 30 mph.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. While driving at 55 mph, the steering wheel shook violently. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 45,000.
09 Jeep Wrangler hits a bump in the road and goes in a violent vibration (wobbling to the point you think you are going to lose control of the car. Very scary! I own the car since new. Investigated the issue on line and and found out not the only one with this issue. So called death wobble!.
While driving north on bertrand drive near west congress street in lafayette, louisiana, at approximately 40 miles per hour, the front wheels and steering wheel began wobbling violently. I maintained control of the vehicle while slowly driving into a parking lot. I performed a cursory inspection of the vehicle, but did not observe anything wrong. I researched the problem on the internet, and learned that the "death wobble" had resulted in Chrysler issuing technical service bulletins, but not a recall. I reported the incident to my local Jeep dealer and to Chrysler. Chrysler informed me that because a recall had not been issued, Chrysler would not have the vehicle repaired at no expense to me.
Me and my dad were driving on the expressway and it was 65 miles an hour all of a sudden the Jeep started shaking violently and it did it 3 times while we're on the expressway. The Jeep was doin the death wobble and both of us were shaken up. The brakes went out and had a hard time stopping. It's ridiculous and I think that these parts should be recalled. I'm gonna call detroit tomorrow.
Bought a used 2009 Jeep didn't know anything about a death wobble. I was going down the interstate at about 60 mph hit a bump and the Jeep started shaking violently. Almost got hit trying to get off the interstate and stop. It does it every time I hit a bump in the road. Now I don't know what to do becasue we bought it used.
Violent shake that made me feel like the Jeep was going to fall apart. . . Extremely dangerous and unsafe. . . This happened all of sudden. . . I did not hit anything to make this happen. . . Chrysler needs to do a recall since this has happened about 15 times since I purchased the vehicle less than a year ago. . . . It does it even at 55-60 miles per hour. . . I have taken it to several mechanics to be fixed. . . Joints, bars, shocks, and tires have been changed numerous times and it continues to shake violently.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the air bag warning light illuminated and a chime sounded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clock spring on the steering wheel needed to be replaced and that the airbags may not deploy in the event of a crash. Three times in the past week, driving on highway at about 55, started the Jeep death wobble. Had to stop in traffic to stop wobble. Still looking for issue. Tires were rebalanced, still getting death wobble.
Experienced violent shaking of the front suspension and steering while travelling on a freeway access road at approximately 50mph; situation commonly referred to as the death wobble. Inspection revealed a leaking steering stabilizer which was promptly replaced. Situation recurred approximately 3 weeks later and the stabilizer was again leaking. Another stabilizer was installed. Situation recurred again after 3 weeks but the stabilizer was not leaking. The track bar was replaced along with the mounting bolts and the tires were balanced and rotated. Situation recurred within 24 hours. Vehicle was taken to a repair shop that replaced the upper and lower ball joints and aligned the frontend. Situation returned later that day and repair shop replaced the shock absorbers. Situation recurred within 24 hours and the vehicle was parked due to being unsafe to drive. Situation currently unresolved.

Jeep hit a bump in road and front end started shaking. Had to almost come to a complete stop, trying to pull off a 4 lane highway, before shaking(wobble) stopped. After the Jeep stopped shaking, I proceeded to drive, hit another small bump, and the wobble came back again.
I was on gratigny pkwy, in miami florida going about 58 miles per hour and when I was crossing the over pass towards I-75 north the front tires began to bounce vigorousely like if the front end was going to fall apart. I slowed down and got to the side but it did not stop shaking till I came to a complete stop. It seems like this should not happen to a vehicle with such low mileage, but the warranty is over of course.
Let me mention, that I bought this Jeep brand new, and started having steering problems about 4 months after purchase. It would pull to the drivers side, and when hitting uneven payment or bump, felt as though steering wheel pulled out of my hands. Learned early on to hold steering wheel very tightly. Took it to the dealership and was told my tires needed rotation and set air pressure. Milage at this point was 4734. Over time, learned to avoid potholes, uneven payment or any rough road. When I did take it in to dealership, was told they could not imitate my problem. Still making monthly payments on the Jeep with this continuous problem was getting really old. On 11/25/11, 2 years and 4 months of putting up with this crap, took it into dealership again. The steering was getting more out of control and I would not allow my teenage son to drive it because I didn't feel safe. At this point was told needed tires rotated again, air pressure check, rear disc brakes and rotors needed, also was told needed front and rear differential fluid service. Had to decline, cause at this point, total was already up to 325. 63. They wanted another 195. 00 to do it. On 6/4/14, during inspection, was told I need new tires. Milage was 26,753. Had enough tread to pass. They wanted 1017. 00, went to costco, same tires for 300 less. 2/21/14, more steering problems, this time needed new damper, steering damper weak plus transmission fluid cooler lines needed replaced. 6/14/14 steering/suspension exhaust heat shield separated on right side hitting off muffler, also front and rear diff. Service. Cost 568. 42, 8/14/14 battery died. Getting to point, on 9/12/14, on PA I 79 turnpike, had my first official death wobble as I have heard. Lucky for me, had a shoulder to pull over to until it stopped. Scared the s--- out of me. Whole front end shock so violently, unreal.
Steering freezes while driving. The steering stiffens so hard during turns (in drive or reverse and either left or right), that the wheel is frozen stuck in whatever that turn position is and no amount of all-muscle force helps, the direction of the vehicle and any turning of the steering wheel to straighten the wheels is increasingly not an option. Recently this occured while left turning onto the highway at approx 10mph. It very often happens while simply parking (parallel or backing in). Took Jeep to a Chrysler-Jeep dealer for an oil&lube and advised them of the issue and for them to check it out, they stated couldn't find anything wrong (!). Yesterday I paid $55 for same dealer to check again, this time they recommended replacing 'steering gear box' for $1100 warranty expired part. Thinking this may be covered under the lifetime powertrain warranty (engine/transmission/drive system per Chrysler-Jeep's web site) that came with the Jeep (that I had to prove was ever offered by Chrysler (had to find original manufaturer sticker that was on the window of Jeep when I selected it for purchase & my original purchase papers), as they did not want to honor (!!!), I called chysler customer care, whose rep stated "part was only covered under basic warranty, not the lifetime". Aaugh! researched Jeep forum online to find that many Jeep Wrangler owners have issues with the steering gear box used by Chrysler that go well beyond steering wheel freezing up while driving. What if someone does a center lane left at a major intersection and the steering freezes. . . Stuck in left turn position? please please force recall on Jeeps steering gear box before people get hurt. Turning left onto a highway and the steering freezes in the left turn position leaving me to envision going over the embankment into morning rush hour. I beg you, please before people get hurt it they haven't already.
I just purchased a 2009 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x that is entirely stock. Within one week and the second time on a highway I experience what has been named the "death wobble. " within seconds it will go from a shimmy to a violent shaking that forces you to slow down or come to a complete stop which can be very dangerous on a highway in the left lane doing 55mph! since it started it has occurred every time I take it on the highway. Apparently this is a common issue among Jeeps but Chrysler is ignoring this defect and stating it is not a safety hazard.
I got what is describe as the death wobble its what the mechanics say. Its all over the internet. I want to know if this problem is this big why hasnt there been a recall. Ive been told this very common. Is Jeep/Chrysler waiting till people die to admit theres a problem or just covering it up.
I have a 2009 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x, purchased new. A few years after purchase I began experiencing death wobble. a mechanic's diagnostic stated my track bar was bent and my bushings were worn and needed replacing as a result of all the violent side to side shaking. This was repaired at great expense out of pocket. This repair seemed effective for some time before the speed wobble started up again this past year. During one episode, the harsh shaking caused my left side blinkers and brake light to fail. No one should reasonably be expected to operate a vehicle when it has the potential to suddenly, unexpectedly, uncontrollably, violently, harshly, and dangerously start shaking, especially while in operation at highway speeds. I avoid driving on the highway anymore because I can't keep up with the flow of traffic before jarring shaking will start. Any driving is now increasingly dangerous to me, my passengers, and other nearby drivers. The uncontrollably violent shaking is difficult to control, frightening, and forces me to abruptly pull over, greatly increasing my chances of being severely injured or even killed in an accident. It is not right for Jeep owners to suffer this. This is a known issue for Jeep. They should be liable for and reimburse Jeep owners any and all costs associated with repairs, alternate transportation, injuries, deaths, distress, or any other conditions or complications arising from, related to, or otherwise resulting from death wobble. causes for this hazard vary, so diagnostics and repairs can be extremely lengthy and costly, not to mention repairs needed for other areas of the vehicle worn and damaged as a result of such aggressively unsafe shaking. This is not standard wear and tear, but a serious, dangerous and potentially deadly issue that should be addressed and corrected by NHTSA, the center for auto safety, lawyers, and courts.
Around 30,000 miles I would notice a slight shimmy in the front end at freeway speeds when a small bump was hit. This would usually last a few seconds and then drive normal. I read some thing online about this and it seemed like it was a normal thing for this 4dr Jeep model. In early March 2014 about 39000 miles I hit a big bump on the freeway and the front end shimmy was so intense I thought the front passenger tire was flat at first it seemed like it was coming off. A few hours later this happened again before I made it home. I did research and found the references to the "death wobble" and knew that's what it was. I was thankful no one else was in the car with me. Another Jeep owner I know knew the term and had heard about these problems. Then April 1st hit a bump I could not avoid on the pot hole infested milwaukee streets and it happened again the tire felt like it was coming off and almost had accident in the construction zone I was in. Called dealer and they knew exactly what I was talking about. Apparently Chrysler switched the dampener/brackets after the 2009 yr models when they noticed problems. Funny how that replacement I had to have done cost me $ 400+. You would think if they know there was a problem this wouldn't cost the consumer a penny. Especially since it is my life in jepardy.
At around 60 mph I experienced what is called the death wobble. Very difficult to control. After getting off the freeway and stopped, I could not find anything wrong. Resumed travel and all was ok until I hit a bump in the road. Again had the death wobble.
The contact owns a 2009 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the steering wheel suddenly began to violently shake causing the driver to nearly lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the steering stabilizer bar was defective. The vehicle was repaired. Also, the contact indicated that while driving the front driver side tire suddenly deflated. After inspecting the vehicle the contact discovered that the tire air valve was fractured. The contact indicated that the defect recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 68,000.
