19 problems related to horn assembly have been reported for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Clockspring going out , controls on steering wheel and horn not working plus no part available under the part # 05156106ac. Now traction control light is on and won't clear.
Clock spring malfunction: horn and steering wheel electronics inoperable.
All the electronics in my steering wheel went out, the horn stopped working, and my airbag no longer works. Some of my warning lights on the dash even stopped working. The fm/am radio also no longer works. I took it to the dealership and they said my clock springs went out. I am very worried about my airbag not deploying in a crash. None of these work, whether the car is moving or stationary.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Wrangler limited. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the head lights would turn off independently without warning. The contact has to continuously flicker the head light switch in order to have visibility when the failure happened. The contact also stated his turn signals would not operate when he attempted to active them and that the windshield wipers also operate independent upon start. The contact had to repeatedly turn the windshield wipers on and off for the wipers to cease operation. The contact called scott robinson Chrysler Dodge Jeep ram 20900 hawthorne blvd, torrance, CA 90503 (424) 299-8800 where he was informed that the part to repair his vehicle would cost $1300. 00. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 6,500. Jo.
Controls on the steering wheel started to go, including horn, air bag light, hands free controls. Mechanic and research done indicates it's the clock spring. This is a left hand drive vehicle. I know there is a recall on the right hand drive vehicles from this year.
Wife and I were driving around enjoying life. We stopped to eat dinner got back in the Jeep it was dark to go home there were no lights, turn signals wipers and horn didn't work. Called a friend to take us home.
Nothing on steering wheel works. No horn no steering wheel controls nothing. Apparent clockspring failure as mechanic has told me.
While stopped exiting a plaza I turned on my turn signal and it didn't turn on at all. It was operational when I pulled into the plaza a short while before. Then when parked the interior lights would also not turn on with the same control stalk. The next day the other control stalk that controls the windshield wipers, horn when pressed from the steering wheel, along with all of the controls on the steering wheel were not working. I was told by a mechanic that it was the clock spring inside the steering wheel. I researched recalls and saw recalls on the clock spring involving the air bag deployment. I then took my Jeep to the dealership where they determined that it was the lin bus failure internal to instrument cluster. Also the lights on the window switches have all slowly stopped working over the course of the year. Along with the cable from the antenna to the radio has broken leaving me with no am/fm radio. My Jeep has never been stuck in the rain with the top off, has suffered no water damage, has been in no accidents, have been driven with care due to the fact I love it and paid a pretty penny for it. I've kept up with oil changes and tire rotation getting a vehicle inspections every 3,000 miles. I have read multiple accounts of the instrument cluster going bad on 2012 Jeep Wranglers. This is issue should be reevaluated by NHTSA and Chrysler. Chrysler please keep in mind that you have loyal Jeep owners who value their Jeeps and don't want to drive anything else, but we also deserve a quality product for our money.
Just noticed while driving, all of the controls on the left side of the steering wheel are inoperable. These include the radio, bluetooth phone, information menu, reset, etc: upon further examination I also noticed the horn no longer works. Unsafe and will not pass state inspection. Inquiry by internet search indicate possible clockspring defect, but that is inconclusive so far.
Tipm failure. The tipm needed to be replaced because it wasn't operating the engine cooling fan (radiator fan). The cooling fan module also had to be replaced. I understand a failed tipm could cause airbags to deploy inadvertently, window opening failure, random horn alarms, stability control problems, and more. An engine trouble light came on while driving. The dealership explained the power distribution module (part number 68244883aa) and the cooling fan module (part number 68143894ab) had to be replaced because they had failed.
There seem to be a number of electrical issue mostly around the door locking failure; the horn and the touch radio.
Airbag clockspring was replaced under recall m031 in early 2012. The part recalled had failed again causing airbag light to be illuminated, loss of speed control, loss of steering wheel audio controls, loss of horn, and loss of "step" and "reset buttons for the information center. This issue started out when turning the steering wheel in the left or right position and within a few weeks has became a constant problem to no avail.
Faulty clockspring airbag light appears sporadically when vehicle is in motion and I have someone in the passenger seat, notifying me that their airbag is deactivated. Horns volume is weak. Possibly a coincidence, but the low tire pressure alert appears at start-up. All tires (goodyear lt285/70r17) read 45-50 psi. This part is recalled in 2007 and 2008 Jeep Wranglers, but not for 2009-2016. It is the exact same part.
Takata recall. I was driving and star raining. Turn on the wiper ,no function I check washer, not working. Then I notice no head lights,no horn's,no tail lights. 4 ways and brakes light does work.
The windshield wipers, directional signals, horn, steering wheel radio controls, headlights failed and rear back power window would not go up- this happened while driving in the rain.
2012 Jeep Wrangler. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle faulty instrument cluster replacement. The consumer stated he lost all power to the horn, lights, directional signals and windshield wipers. After days, Chrysler replaced the instrument cluster.
Parked vehicle in garage on Saturday afternoon. Went to start it back up and the vehicle had no dash lights, turn signals, horn, brakelights, heated seats, etc. Had it towed to dealership on Monday October 20th. The dealer said that the cluster was out and it would take a few days to get one. At the end of the week they told us it would be Nov 1st. I checked in on oct 30 and the dealership said the part was now tentatively scheduled for Nov 22. Opened a case with Jeep and have a case manager who told me today that the new tentative date is Nov 28. The parts seem to be unavailable and our Jeep has been inoperable for 33 days with no end in sight.
One morning the controls, horn, & I'm assuming, airbag stopped working (no lights or functionality). Just noticed the first time going out for the day. The removable hard top panels where off, and some dew was present in the air earlier that morning. . . . But it's a Jeep. The horn honked from the steering wheel once and then no more. It does still work when locking the doors and such remotely.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that the top was opened as it began to rain and saturated the interior of the vehicle. Several hours later, the contact he started the vehicle and discovered that the windshield wipers, turn signals, exterior and interior lights, and the horn all failed. In addition, the steering wheel buttons had become inoperable. All of the inoperable components became operable within 24 hours. The dealer was contacted but advised that there were no failures to diagnose. The failure and the current mileage was 3,600. Kmj.
