The 2012 Jeep jk Wrangler has serious electrical issues. The Jeep randomly stalls while driving and sometimes won’t start at all. Right before it stalls, every light on the dashboard flashes and continues to flash until the car dies. Replacing the battery doesn’t fix the issue. Numerous complaints about Jeep Wranglers tipm issues have been ignored by authorities. I suppose people will have to die in a crash or spends thousands fixing the tipm or electrical issues before getting relief.
Clockspring failed causing airbag to malfunction. Jeep dealer ordered a replacement in April 2023 and still has not received the part(even though they have one in stock the manufacturer will not allow them to use and install the stock clockspring). We have been forced to drive the vehicle without an operating clockspring which creates a major safety hazard since the airbags may not deploy on impact.
The vehicle will die while driving it, it is a automatic so you loose power steering power brakes and the engine is completely shut off you have to safely pull over and not get hit to put vehicle in park sometimes it starts in park, sometime it just turns over and you have to wait 10 to 15 minutes for vehicle to start. Dealer keeps telling me there is no issue with the vehicle, and they cannot replicate issue. I fear for me and my family's life every day in my Jeep Wrangler.
While driving making a turn, shifting from 1st to 2nd gear, and vehicle stalls losing all power. I had a crank no-start scenario! the vehicle has been to the dealer multiple times and the issue can not be duplicated. The vehicle has been inspected multiple times and there are no known issues. No-fault codes are thrown. I was able to cost to a safe location, and wait. After 3-5 min the vehicle restarted.

Starting out at a stop sign. Engaging the clutch to start moving, while shifting into 2nd gear while turning the vehicle stalls. Losing all power steer and brakes. I try to re-start the car I get a crank no-start scenario. Wait 3-5 min, retry starting the vehicle starts.
Starting out at a stop light, engaging the clutch to start moving, I depressed the clutch to shift into second gear while making a turn, the vehicle stalls, losing all power.
Random stalling while driving, making a left-hand turn. While entering an intersection, the vehicle stalled losing all power. Was able to coast to a safe spot. Waited 15 min, the vehicle started. No check engine light.
Becoming the new owner in 2021, I was issued a recall for the passenger airbag inflator replacement. After repairing this recall, the vehicle air bag light came on and has not turned off since. I made several attempts with dearlership to access the problem and in may 2022 the dealership diagnosed the problem stating it was the airbag clockspring. This clockspring had a recall on it in June 2016 and was replaced in September 2016. The dealership along with another ams certified mechanics shop stated the clockspring that was replaced in 2016 is defective. This is causing multiple safety issues with the vehicle. The anti skid system activates, the anti lock braking is activated, the cruise control will not operate, along with the fact the air bags are inoperable or not operating at full capacity as they are required to.
My Jeep is now stalling mid drive when I turn my wheel. 3 times it's happened while turning from a stop light and oncoming traffic had to stop and go around me. I've had 2 mechanics look at it and neither of them can find an issue. Rpms go to zero and my steering wheel locks up. The only way to reset it is to put it in park, turn the car off then back on. Outside of those 3 times it's happened while the vehicle is running and turning onto a street or into a parking lot - there is no rhyme or reason to what will trigger it. I've read quite a few forums where this seems to be an issue. This is a huge safety issue and needs to be looked into immediately!! I went from feeling carefree in my Jeep to keeping both of my hands on the wheel while making any turn and being constantly tense. Please please announce a recall and fix this!.
2012 Jeep Wrangler jk clock spring assembly is faulty, circuit is open causing air bag light to illuminate and possible issues deploying air bag in event of a crash. Same issue as previous my jks. Air bag light will illuminate when steering wheel is turned, sometimes staying on or turning back off. Also seems to be happen more frequently during cool weather (less than 60 degrees f).
My Jeep will randomly just shut off while idling in a parking lot or stopped at a ligh. If I turn the key it will start right back up. No check engine lights or codes. I have had it to a mechanic and they can't figure out what is wrong .
My Jeep Wrangler 2012 jku will shut off in the middle of the road while running. I have a 18 month old that rides in the backseat and there have been multiple times that I have felt very unsafe for his life and mine. I have replaced 2 batteries as I thought that was the issue. Now I am sure it is the tipm is faulty. My Jeep has under 60k miles on it. Chrysler/fiat needs to put a recall on these as they are junk and should not have been made so bad as they are the brain of the SUV. This has happened while driving or stationary on city street, turning, and highway ramps.
Driving my vehicle it started raining I went to use my wipers they do not work. My esc light keeps coming on and off. My mechanic said it's the tipm. Please advise if Jeep with help me with this costly problem.
First my power windows wouldn't work while driving, I pulled off the side of the road and turned the car off and that temporarily fixed the issue (it has happen twice since). That same day I was driving on the interstate using my cruise control set at 70mph and the traction control light came on and the cruise control shut down and disabled itself while keeping the cruise control light on and not allowing me to turn off or reset the cruise control. (these lights went out the following day). A couple days later while driving, a warning of the rear drivers side turn signal being out came on (this comes and goes now almost daily). Last night while my Jeep was parked in driveway of my home the headlights and dome light started coming on randomly. The headlight and dome light switch where both in the off position and the keys were on my kitchen table inside the house (this is continuing to happen in the parking lot at work also). When I got in it to go to work and while idling the hazards lights would randomly blink twice and then stop, wait a couple minutes and happen again. While sitting in the parking lot at work I noticed that when this happen the headlights are also turning on, they turned off after a minute or two, and then it happens again. It is a rainy day but bright enough that I could not tell if the lights were randomly going in and out while driving. Regardless this is turning in to a serious safety issue and it seems to be all too common with these fiat-Chrysler vehicles.
Sway bar light and other indicators flashing because of water entering the electronic sway bar disconnect box in front of the sway bar, under the front of the vehicle in a non-waterproof containment, causing multiple shorts. Common issue in 2012 Jeep Wrangler rubicon unlimited 4x4 because of poor design. This happens when driving in heavy rain, while driving if you hot a large puddle water splashes up in to the box shooting it out.
Sway bar indicator won't stop blink and I have never used this function and my windshield wipes go on and off at random times and the paint on the door hinges have been bubbling since I bought it and I laid extra for the car care package but they would not honor it.
Sentry light and tire pressure light flash intermittently while driving at normal speeds.
Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The contact also stated that her windshield wipers do not work and the power locks work intermittently. The security alarm also goes off while the vehicle was being driven. The contact took the vehicle to a Jeep dealer(larry h. Miller Chrysler Jeep Dodge ram sandy 10905 auto mall dr, sandy, ut 84070 866-677-2319) where they informed the contact that they were unable to diagnosis the vehicle. The contact was then referred to another dealer(accuracy automotive 4036 s main st, murray, ut 84107 801-266-3609) where they diagnosed the vehicle with a defective total integrated power module(tipm) that needed to be replaced. The contact was given an estimate for the cost of the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000. Jo.
Clockspring required replacement. Intermittant airbag light, intermittant function from controls on steering wheel. No pattern to intermittant functioning, I personally cleaned out all contacts and harnesses before paying dealership to replace clockspring.
The vehicle is stalling while driving or acting as if its going to cut off while in motion causing a very uncomfortable jerking motion. It also powers off and will not move until 3-5 minutes later regardless of what gear it's in. This vehicle has cut off on me numerous times while driving and has even caused me to be stuck in the road blocking traffic. I've contacted the dealership multiple times over the past few months and I also have diagnostic receipts that claim they can't find any issues with my vehicle when they inspect it. However, about a week ago I was watching channel 4 news and they reported a recall for 2011-2013 Jeep grand cherokee and durangos for engine stalling issues related to the fuel pump. . Read more...
Driving down the road when suddenly all the lights started flashing, radio flashed and then the Jeep started to loose power. Pulled over, put in park and turned it off. Exterior and interior lights were flashing. Clicking noises where coming from the tipm even with the key off. Everything was locked up once it was put in park and wouldn't unlock to tow. The only recourse was to unhook the battery and try to reset everything after waiting for about 20 seconds. I hooked the battery back and was able to drive it home. This is the second time this happened however the first time was in park and everything went haywire. Was able to restart w/o disconnecting the battery. It is getting worse. We are looking at a $1000 repair bill. We are hesitant to drive it.
While driving my 2012 Jeep Wrangler unlimited recently, all of a sudden my check engine light comes on & shortly after my abs & traction control lights go on as well. I've had the car checked twice & no one can seem to give me an answer on what the problem is. They've went off since but came back on a day later. It's beyond frustrating especially when I see so many people with similar problems yet no recalls? for the cost of these cars, I can't understand why there's so many with issues. Also while I'm at it I should note that my heating & defrost completely stopped working. I live in upstate NY & my mileage is currently 109k.
Stationary vehicle starts when I open the door without having key in ignition. Stationary vehicle engine fails to shut off when I turn off ignition and remove key. Anti-lock brake system locks up brakes while vehicle is standing still and will not move under any throttle amount because the brakes remain locked up. Vehicle factory alarm turns on and off randomly when drivers door is opened. Windows roll down by themselves while vehicle is turned off. Air conditioner blower (can't say if compressor keeps running or not) randomly shuts off while driving down the road and comes back on a couple of minutes later. Cruise control will not accept speed set but then turns 5 minutes later whether you wanted it to or not. Everything points to the tipm but even with 10's of thousands of complaints fiat/Chrysler still insist there is no Wrangler tipm problem, and u. S. Government oversight groups refuse to do anything about it. (when did this happen date is just the latest occurrence of an ongoing serious safety issue that fiat/Chrysler refuses to acknowledge. .
Takata recall- a few days ago my airbag light started turning on and off each time I started my car and now the light has remained on.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Jeep Wrangler rubicon. The contact stated that after driving for approximately 15 minutes, pulled over to the driveway and noticed gray smoke emerging from the engine compartment. The contact open the hood to find the harness that goes around the battery was engulfed in flames. The contact extinguished the fire with tap water. The vehicle was driven to an unknown independent mechanic and they referred the contact to the dealer georgia Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep 12114 us-301, statesboro georgia 30458, the vehicle will be towed today. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000. Bp.
While driving straight on a county road at 25 mph, the vehicle's gauges turned off and all warning lights lit up on the dash. The vehicle stopped and would not restart, lock, or unlock doors. All fuses and the battery were good. Dealership confirmed it was a failed tipm (totally integrated power module) and quoted $1300 to replace.
The motor was overheating the radiator fan did not turn on. Tipm was defect.
My vehicle started out with intermittently not being able to start/ turn over or receive electronic signals to the total integrated power module. Over time the problem became more prevalent with other issues occurring along with inability to start. These problems included loss of power to the transmission and position sensors, and cabin lights coming on there own while driving. After several trips to the mechanics it was determined that the tipm was the problem, after replacing the module all problems have stopped.
Tipm smoking at power feed. Random total loss of all power while driving.
Engine dash lights abs, traction control and engine light came on then off then back on will in motion. Also while in motion, an rpm surge occurred which almost caused me to rear end the car in front of me. This surge has occurred twice in the last day so have parked the vehicle for fear of having an accident that could result in bodily harm.
Tipm problems over heating. Safety front turn signals changed to fog light not aware until parked in front of a plate glass window and noticed the problem tipm less than 90 days since it was changed. Hearing of airbag failure antilock brake problems etc all related to the tipm should be cause for concern.
When driving my Jeep it has shut off on its own. Today I when from drive to reverse and was trying to park on a busy street and the vehicle just shut off on its own. I had to put the vehicle in park turn the key to the off position and then start the vehicle again before I could drive again. This is very dangerous and could possibly kill someone if this happens on the interstate. Ive read many reports on line of people having the same problem.
When driving and accelerate to around 3500 to 5000 rpm randomly the Jeep stalls and doesn't accelerate nore passes 2500 rpms. Very dangerous when driving in the freeway. I cleared the check engine light around 3 different occasions. Obd code was p06dd.
On 3 occasions my Jeep Wrangler's accelerator pedal has stuck to the floor. Shifting to neutral would not bring the pedal up. Manually pulling the pedal would not make a change. Twice I had to turn off the car in mid traffic. The third time I was able to coast to the side of the road.
