Ignition Switch problems of the 2012 Jeep Wrangler

Two problems related to ignition switch have been reported for the 2012 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2016

While being towed by our RV on a city street, a fire started under the hood of the Jeep. The transfer case was in neutral. The manual transmission was in neutral. The ignition switch was turned 1 notch to accessory to unlock the steering. The fire was extinguished by the fire department. No police report was filed because the fire was not caused by an accident. Because of the severity of the fire damage, no cause of the fire was determined.

2 Ignition Switch problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2014

Ignition switch ? I was driving with my family and the car shut itself off. The engine stopped, the dash panel flickered, and then I lost all power. The brakes started losing pressure and my swaybar disconnect became disconnected. 1. 5 seconds later the Jeep came alive and I had all the lights on the dash light up with warning bells like you do when you start the vehicle. This happened 13 or so times on the way home. It's currently at the dealer getting fixed. While I was there this morning there were 3 others with chrylser group vehicles with the same problem. The Jeep forums also have several posts about this.
