1 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2026

Any time I get above 55 miles per hour the steering starts shaking and I feel as if I’m going to lose control of the vehicle. I have had the recalls done on it, but it continues.

2 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2026

One day out of the blue, my Jeep Wrangler received a "service shifter" error code. The error code threw about 40 other codes at the same time. Loss of power steering, loss of abs, engine kept revving on its own, windshield wipers turned on. While in park it felt as if it was trying to shift itself into other gears. Loss of steering while driving as well as the engine revving up and down while on the interstate. Every warning light came on and stayed on. I can let it sit for awhile and it'll drive fine for a little while until it does it all again and again. I have not taken it to a dealership yet due to all the threads on being charged $2000 and it not get fixed.

3 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2026

I own a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The vehicle has a serious safety issue where the steering wheel shakes violently at freeway speeds, especially when driving over uneven roads or bumps. This makes the vehicle feel unsafe to operate. This issue was previously repaired under warranty with a steering damper replacement. However, the same problem has returned, indicating that the issue was not properly resolved. The dealership has recently verified the issue through a road test and confirmed the violent shaking condition. In addition, the vehicle currently has an active airbag warning light, and the dealership diagnosed a failed front right acceleration sensor. This raises concerns about the proper function of the airbag system in the event of a crash. I have contacted the manufacturer multiple times, but they have declined to provide assistance and have not been responsive. I am concerned that this vehicle has unresolved safety defects that could put the driver and passengers at risk.

4 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2026

At speeds around 50 mph the steering wheel will "lock up" and become extremely difficult to steer if not impossible. Lowering speed to 28 mph will suddenly jolt the steering back to normal causing extremely dangerous steering response with a danger of over correcting once steering assist is regained. Dealer has not been able to replicate the issue and cannot find anything wrong with the vehicle. This has happened multiple times nearly resulting in a head on collision 2 separate times.

5 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2026

While driving at highway speed, my 2018 Jeep Wrangler violently shakes in the wheel. It is unpredictable and very concerning. This is very unsafe as you have no control over this violent shaking, and you aren’t sure of what could happen. This appears to be a very common issues in the Jeeps as there are various reports of this occurring. There is no warning lamps, messages, etc. When this occurs. This is a very big safety issue that needs to be addressed. After taking it to get looked at, I was made aware this could occur for several reasons in the car. All of these reasons should be addressed and fixed as this is a very known issue.

6 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2026

On multiple, though infrequent occasions, while beginning a turn in our 2018 Jeep Wrangler jl, the steering wheel, abruptly and without warning, stops turning. The turn cannot be completed without exerting significant force on the wheel to overcome the resistance. This is very dangerous, especially when moving at highway speeds, as drivers may find themselves unable to stay on the road or worse, to avoid oncoming traffic. When we first reported this problem to a Jeep dealer in 2018-2019, we were repeatedly told that they were unaware of the problem we described, and since they couldn’t reproduce the malfunction, they could not effect any repair. Over time, the problem worsened, not with more frequency but with more and more force being required to overcome the steering wheel resistance - increasing the likelihood that one might inadvertently oversteer when breaking through that resistance. After a recent incident that could have caused a serious accident, we looked online and found that ours was not an uncommon problem. There are numerous reports describing this very issue on the carcomplaints. Com website. And Jeep actually issued a technical service bulletin in 2018 (TSB 08-092-18) that not only describes the problem, but also the fix. So Jeep not only knew about the problem, but they knew how to fix it and did not do so when we were under warranty. Now they are saying the fix will cost us literally thousands of dollars. This issue is dangerous and should have been under a mandatory recall from day one.

7 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2026

My radio cluster has shut off, screen went dark and blank while I was driving on 3 seperate occasions within the last 60 days. While driving the steering feels a little loose, the faster I go the more loose it feels. While on the interstate driving 70 mph my Jeep will not run straight, it kinda drifts back and forth and I am continuously having to correct it in order to stay in my lane. Not sure what is causing it to "drift" side to side and have heard of some Jeep Wranglers having death wobbles has me concerned of whether mine is going to do it.

8 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2026

The Jeep lost power while I was driving. The lights stayed on but Jeep came to a stop. I touched the key area and it started running again.

9 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2025

It states that our vehicle is not on the recall list for death wobble, however, when we go over a bump or over 60 mph our Jeep vibrates and shakes (feeling it in the steering). We took to have tires checked, even rebalanced and they checked stems.

10 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2025

Continuous engine problems says not in park/ is in park clicking sounds when turned off steering wheel won’t lock will turn over but won’t start even tho all lights come on and air all lights will turn off when brake is pressed and when foot is off brake the lights will flash and the car will beep continuously all lights in gear will be lit up orange but can’t move it.

11 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2025

Problem description (very important): my 2018 Jeep Wrangler experiences a severe and violent front-end shaking commonly referred to as “death wobble. ” this occurs while driving at highway speeds and makes the vehicle difficult to control until I slow down significantly. The shaking feels dangerous and unpredictable and creates a serious safety risk. I transport my children in this vehicle, and this issue is frightening and unsafe for passengers and other drivers. My dealership states there is no recall, but I am aware of widespread consumer complaints, documented defects, and lawsuits involving death wobble in Jeep Wranglers, including the 2018 model year. I believe this is a known steering/suspension defect and not normal wear and tear. I am reporting this for safety reasons.

12 Steering problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2025

Emergency break lever/pull tab gets stuck vehicle failed to start several times causing tows vehicle steering is loose and dangerous steering is hard to control on a bump uneven payment or snowy rainy weather conditions . Wheel is loose can’t teach my teenager how to drive in this to dangerous even for me.

13 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2025

Jeep randomly shuts off while actively driving. I have automatic jl. Screen shows to service clutch. All dash lights come on, no buss bar detected, abs, no traction control, airbags, park sense off, check engine, steering locks up. Engine shuts off while driving. Mph screen goes blank all electrical stops working. Connector behind stock bumper is expised to the elements causing shortage. Putting my life in danger everytime I drive.

14 Steering problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2025

On [xxx] while driving my 2018 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sport (VIN: [xxx] ), the braking system failed without warning while I was approaching a stop sign on a residential road. I pressed the brake pedal and felt extreme resistance and grinding, followed by a near-total lack of braking power. I was forced to abruptly swerve into an open driveway to avoid a collision. This sudden malfunction put my life and the safety of others at serious risk, especially had it occurred on a highway or near pedestrian traffic. The affected component appears to be part of the braking system—likely the master cylinder, brake booster, or brake line integrity—but a full diagnosis is pending inspection. There were no warning lights or messages displayed on the dashboard at any time prior to or during the failure. The vehicle gave no indication that a malfunction was imminent. Immediately after the incident, I parked the vehicle and did not attempt to drive it again. As of now, the issue has not yet been formally confirmed by a dealer, but I am in the process of getting it inspected by a certified independent mechanic, and I am willing to make the vehicle and its components available for inspection upon request. I also plan to provide documentation once the evaluation is complete. I only recently purchased this Jeep from carvana a few months ago, and it is extremely concerning that such a critical failure could occur so soon. The vehicle has two completed recalls related to steering and rear windows, but none that address braking—making this unexpected failure even more alarming. I believe this could indicate a larger pattern or potential defect that has not yet been officially acknowledged or addressed. This event was dangerous and could have resulted in a serious accident. I am requesting that this complaint be formally investigated, and I am open to cooperating fully with NHTSA, Chrysler, or any affiliated parties in reviewing the failure and addressing issue. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia).

15 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2025

The check engine light came on in my car. I was waiting for the dealer to call me to fix it for the 3rd time. I was on my way home when every electrical option on the vehicle turned on- wipers, lights, dash lights, brake- which caused the car to brake- then it turned off and I had no brakes, the car had no steering, it accelerated and I went off the road.

16 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2025

The dash board stared to flash all sorts of symbols check engine light, auto start stop, sway bar disconnect unavailable, shifter problem. And then the power steering does not work, sometimes the throttle has no power, and sometimes the engine shuts off.

17 Steering problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

The steering gear box on my Jeep Wrangler has an active technical service bulletin regarding the faulty alluminum steering gear box causing wandering in the steering of the vehicle on all 2018-2020 Jeep Wranglers. This repair is a known issue by fca as they have a service bulletin regarding the issue. However they have not recalled the defective parts and refuse to cover replacing the defective parts unless the vehicle is still under warranty, or at a substantial cost to me. When I purchased my Jeep from westgate Jeep in raleigh, nc in late September 2024 at 84,000 miles the TSB had not been completed by the original owner. The Jeep is lifted but was sold to the original owner in that manner. It is a rocky ridge package that was sold the way it still is to the original owner. My safety and the safety of my family is at risk in the vehicle because it wanders excessively in the road. The incident consisted of passing 18 wheeler driving by in the opposite direction causing the Jeep to wander excessively to the right off of the edge of the road causing near loss of control and potential roll over. The issue has been found by my certified mechanic to be related to excessive movement/flexing in the steering gear box. The mechanic drove the vehicle and also noticed the wandering steering. Fca/Jeep should not be allowed to refuse to repair such a significant known issue with vehicles that they manufactured with defective parts they should be held accountable and made to recall and repair those defective parts. There are no active warning lights on the vehicle and a recent alignment was done by a certified mechanic when the tie rod and tie rod ends, drag link and drag link ends, ball joints and steering dampener where replaced. All tires are balanced and have equal wear the steering gear box is the only component of the steering system that has not been replaced and the issue remains. Please reference mopar t. S. B. 08-074-20 rev. B regarding the known issue. Thank you.

18 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2025

Vehicle loses power steering while driving and is near impossible to steer when this happens. If in a curve I'm afraid the vehicle will not respond in time and leave the roadway or cross into oncoming traffic.

19 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2025

I was driving about 65 mph and was turning with the road and my Jeep started to shake violently. I just about lost control of the vehicle. I pulled over on the interstate to check and see if I had a flat on a front tire or if the wheel was falling off of the Jeep. It was a very scary and unpleasant experience to have at 4:30 am going to work. Not sure what the problem is with the suspension or steering, but I thought for sure I was going to get in a wreck and traffic is really heavy which would have been very bad for many drivers!.

20 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2025

Abs malfunction. Power steering and brakes go in and out of operation due to a communication error. All lights come on dash, engine light stays on. Occurs mainly when vehicle is hot during summer or above 65mph highway driving. Safety concern as vehicle power steering is unpredictable during this time. The drive shaft locks in park and requires manual override when lights are on, but then without intervention, all the lights go away except the engine light and it runs fine. Abs modules are on back order with no eta because this is a recurring problem for many. Once new abs module is put it, problem can be confirmed and more details can be given by auto repair services.

21 Steering problem

Failure Date: 05/04/2025

My Jeep's steering is excessively loose. There is a good amount of dead space in the steering wheel that the vehicle does not respond. The vehicle wonders left to right constantly and have to continue to correct for it's action. It becomes more of a safety hazard when there is a slight wind or passing or being passed by a larger vehicle like a truck for instance. The vehicle also shifts let and right depending on road conditions, meaning cracks in the pavement or pot holes of any size. I feel very unsecure or unsafe particularly at higher speeds. Please help and thank you in advance.

22 Steering problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2025

I have read a lot about the "death wobble. " it appears there has been no recall on this but I believe there have been many incidents. Almost every day that the vehicle is driven and we hit a bump in the road going between 30-45 miles the steering wheel shakes aggressively. Would you not call this a definitely a safety hazard? the second issue is the dash board reading goes blank occasionally. Unable to see the speed and or gas usage. Both issues I would say are safety issues. It appears that many Jeep owners have faced the same issues. Neither of these issues have been inspected. I don't feel that we should be responsible for the cost of the inspection. Jeep should stand behind their product.

23 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2025

The primary component that failed is the brake caliper, which caused a dragging brake, overheating, and visible smoke after a brake pad replacement. This is a defect in a critical safety system, not routine wear and tear. The caliper failure, combined with rapid deterioration of the pads within only seven months of purchase, makes clear that the Jeep was sold to me with preexisting and undisclosed defects. The defective caliper and removed parts remain available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others were directly at risk. A dragging brake drastically reduces stopping ability, can cause sudden brake failure, and creates a fire hazard when smoke and heat build up. These risks make the vehicle unsafe for road use. In addition, there is a well-documented steering defect known as the “death wobble. ” some sources classify this under a recall, while others describe it as covered only by an extended warranty. This inconsistency has prevented me from obtaining clear assistance despite the serious safety implications. The issue has been reproduced and confirmed by a certified Jeep dealership. I have service records, dealer inspection notes, and photos documenting the condition, including metal-on-metal wear, dragging brake, and resulting smoke. The vehicle has been inspected by dealership technicians and is also under review with fca, who have assigned a claim number. When I initially sought assistance, I was told the failures were “wear and tear. ” that is inaccurate, as no reasonable consumer could cause this level of brake and steering deterioration in such a short period. I have been forced to pay out-of-pocket for defects clearly present at the time of sale, even though carvana, silverrock, and fca denied responsibility. Under the magnuson-moss warranty act, consumers are protected when vehicles are sold with hidden defects, regardless of warranty status. This Jeep was sold in unsafe condition. The caliper failure and death wobble are preexisting hazards.

24 Steering problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2025

It is the death wobble. I took the car in once. My cars started violently shaking when I would hit 58 miles per hour and curve to the left, or the right and shakes so uncontrollably that I would have to tap the brakes but not too hard. Is I did not want to go off the road period there were cars that were behind me. That would shoot off to every direction trying to get around me. And yes, of course it's dangerous. Not supposed to be going down the interstate. Drinking a d*** bloody mary anyways. I took it into 2 dealerships. There are car places around where I live. They went ahead and diagnosed it and charged me $5060 or no 70 something. To fix it and it was even worse, so I brought it back to them. They tried to balance the other tire but that did not work, and that is the point where the other mechanics came over and said, that's the death wobble, which I had never heard of. He then told me about the staring damper, which then I looked everything up and saw that you had a class action settled where you were supposed to take cars in and fix them. However, this person seems scared of their own shadow, so who knows, but I asked for the history to see if anything had been done? and you guys, Jeep or Jeep, refuse to give it to me, said I would have to call the dealership, I called the dealership, they said, OH we don't give you a copy of that. I said, well, why wouldn't you? I mean, it is my car that I'm buying from y'all and they said, yeah, sorry, we don't do that. You'll have to get like a car, fax or something. I'm like, hold on, you guys. Sure, don't want to pay for anything. Considering this whole entire thing. Is your fault? and uh, the fact that you guys asked for a VIN number in order to fix my vehicle is ridiculous because whether you had the VIN numbers stored or not, it's a 2018, and I got the d*** death wobble. Now, mine happens to be a limited edition golden eagle. And you will see in the videos. I told them it was going to end up costing them a lot mor.

25 Steering problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2025

The vehicle will intermittently struggle to engage in 1st gear, the brake pedal gets hard, the auto stop start light will display on the dash and the esc light will display on the dash. Each issue may occur separately, not at all or they will all occur within 5 mins of driving the vehicle. I have been at a traffic light where the vehicle would not immediately engage in 1st gear and the vehicle behind me came within a few inches of rear ending my vehicle when I did not begin moving with the flow of traffic. I also have a similar experience with the auto stop start system failing while at a traffic light which caused the vehicle to stall in the intersection and I could not restart the vehicle without completely power cycling the ignition two times. The problems have been reproduced on multiple occasions throughout the past month. The vehicle has not been inspected by a 3rd party and the warning lights and alert messages that appeared for auto stop start system/ esc system did not appear until the problem occurred.

26 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2025

The factory aluminum steering box presents a severe safety hazard and should be immediately recalled due to its dangerous failure in cold temperatures. In low temperatures, the steering sticks and does not move freely, making normal driving extremely hazardous for both the driver and others on the road. While straight roads may not reveal the issue, attempting to turn on a curve becomes life-threatening—the wheel sticks, preventing necessary maneuvering. Once it finally releases, it can lead to overcorrection, which is especially perilous on slick, icy, or snow-covered roads. This issue occurs without warning, at any speed, and significantly increases the risk of crashes. Fca is aware of the problem and has issued a technical service bulletin (TSB) (https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2020/mc-10181634-9999. Pdf), but this is not a recall—meaning owners are left at risk. This failure nearly caused me a head-on collision and a run-off-road accident while traveling with my family. The safety implications are undeniable, and action must be taken before lives are lost. This is not just a mechanical flaw—it’s a critical safety failure that demands an urgent recall.

27 Steering problem

Failure Date: 01/10/2025

Factory aluminum steering box presents a severe safety hazard and should be immediately recalled due to its dangerous failure in cold and probably all temperatures. In low temperatures, the steering sticks and does not move freely, making normal driving extremely hazardous for both the driver and others on the road. While straight roads may not reveal the issue, attempting to turn on a curve becomes life-threatening—the wheel sticks, preventing necessary maneuvering or it darts me in another direction. Once it finally releases, it can lead to overcorrection, which is especially perilous on slick, icy, or snow-covered roads. This issue occurs without warning, at any speed, and significantly increases the risk of crashes. Fca is aware of the problem and has issued a technical service bulletin 08-074-20 rev. , but this is not a recall—meaning owners are left at risk. Die pretty much or risk your family dying and others or just get into that accident so the insurance companies screw you as always and you are left with nothing-those insurance adjusters don't work for we the people. This failure causes me a to have a collision daily and a run-off-road accident while traveling with my family on the interstate. The safety implications are undeniable, and action must be taken before lives are lost. This is not just a mechanical flaw—it’s a critical safety failure that demands an urgent recall. Then add in the notorious shimmy/shake onset of a death wobble. You are going the speed limit/interatate highway speeds and go over a bridge and it's over-you better pray! when driving a low speed 53mph if the vehicle hits a bump, it will start bouncing and the steering wheel shakes too much until I stop and then everything comes back to normal. That situation is very frequently and very dangerous, because it happened to me many times while driving on a highway with a heavy traffic behind me including semi trucks. If I die in my Jeep due to malfunctions from company my family can sue.

28 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2024

After I completed the recall on the clutch, I've noticed an alarming issue: occasionally, multiple warning lights appear on the dashboard, such as the check engine, service transmission, and brake lights. The most pressing safety concern is the complete loss of power steering. Although the car remains drivable, operating it without power steering is exceptionally hazardous. Additionally, since the car features a push-to-start system, when this issue arises, I can’t turn it off in the usual manner; I have to stall the engine to stop it. This situation has occurred multiple times, but fortunately, I’ve been either at a stop or driving at a low speed. After leaving the car off for a while, when I start it again later, the fault disappears and I can't replicate the issue.

29 Steering problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2024

My vehicle will randomly have the check engine light come on, a service shifter light come on, and then lose the ability to steer. I have taken it to the dealership twice and told it was fixed. Now it is back at the dealership for the third time. As a result of this issue I was involved in a car accident when a van came into my lane and I was unable to avoid impact and they were able to leave the scene. This is a safety issue for not only myself and anyone in my car but also anyone on the road around me. I did not file a police report regarding the accident as my situation involves a language barrier and I was so upset I just wanted to get home and be safe. Now I am in a state of fear anytime I drive my vehicle. I did have passengers and witnesses for two different instances where our lives were put in jeopordy because of this issue. On a separate occasion we were on a busy highway lost steering and were unable to get out of first gear. If I end up in a court situation I have several witnesses that would all be willing to make statements on my behalf as their lives were also put in jeopardy. I'm very upset as this vehicle was expensive and I bought it brand new. Now I've been out of a car for weeks and am being told I may have to pay for something that is clearly an ongoing issue. I have read several forums and articles and complaints from fellow Jeep owners, many the same year, who have experienced the same issue. This is horrendous! my service records are all on file with auto centro caguas in puerto rico.

30 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2024

This vehicle is a 2018 model with 27k miles, non of it off road. Upon driving a freeway a few days ago, the vehicle went into a violent vibration/shacking motion, aka "death wobble" that required immediate and dangerous driver action to keep from having a high speed (within legal limits) accident. In addition, the steering system sticking (stops and won't move) and wanders both left and right. The vehicle is dangerous to the occupants as well as other car/drivers in close proximity to this vehicle.

31 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2024

= customer states that when hitting a bump they have the typical Jeep death wobble conditions?= found the vehicle to have play in all steering joints and the right front axle joint t9 have play. The vehicle has 31,000 miles on it and has never been in an accident. It started the "death wobble" oct 2024. I traveled to michigan, not realizing it was this bad, and it became worse over the course of our trip in November 2024. I was traveling at 70-75 mph on why and felt like it was going to fall apart. It took me slowing it down to stop the wobble. I took to a mechanic in ionia, mi which I had a extended warranty and paid it. I was told it was fixed. They replaced steering tie rod . . . Remove and replace components as required to access and install materials and/or perform needed service. Retest and verify repair as required. Perform final road test where applicable. 68258761ae - socket, tie rod 68258762ae - socket, tie rod 68522992aa- socket, drag link inner 68260466ab - adjuster assy, steering link 68258760ae - socket, drag link outer front axle. Outer joint on "fixed" Friday, November 29, 2024. I was trying to leave to return to south carolina on December 1, 2024, and I went onto the interstate. I was not maybe 1/4 mile, and the "death wobble" started again. I had to get off at the next exit and go back to my neices house. I have to take it back to the mechanic shop on Monday, December 2, 2024. I am stuck here in michigan, and I have a son whom I had to fly back to south carolina to go to school. Who gets to pay for my expenses and my issues? who do I contact for all of this now that this issue is chronic. ?.

32 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2024

A shimmy in the steering wheel after hitting an irregularity on the road surface, also whenever I want to turn it does like a squirrelly is the best way I can put it. On uneven roads, bumps, dips, etc the Jeep pulls to one side or the other. Consequently the traction control light comes on and the Jeep loses power!.

33 Steering problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2024

This is a 2018 Jeep Wrangler 2018 jku rhd and this vehicle starting to get the airbag light on and off in the dash! I brought it to a dealer to read it and they said the code is the b1b02 that means the clock spring is going out and it wasnt safe to drive it because the air bag will not deploy. Looking for all the info about it, I found out they have a recall is some specific years but why it is not a recall in the 2018 model when it is showing up the same symptoms and problems than the recalled years?.

34 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2024

The contact owns a 2018 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, the power steering became inoperable for two seconds and then returned to normal independently. The contact stated that during the second failure, an attempt was made to start the vehicle; however, several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the failure recurred. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and restarted the vehicle and the power steering functionality returned. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

35 Steering problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2024

While driving at 55 mph the brake light, service abs system, check engine light, service 4wd, service transmission, loss of power steering, and engine cooling fan ran very fast. I was lucky to pull off the road and put the vehicle in park. The 4 way flashers would blink erratically. Engine still running wouldn't come out of park. I turned the vehicle off. L let it set a few minutes. I then restarted the vehicle and it shifted into gear and drove home with the check engine light on. The next day it had no check engine light.
