While driving my 2023 Jeep Wrangler willys 4xe at approximately 40 mph in electric mode with approximately 26% battery charge remaining, the vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly lost propulsion. The green indicator on the instrument cluster that normally shows electric operation changed to yellow. Immediately afterward, the Jeep abruptly lost power and began rapidly decelerating. I was not applying the brakes. The dashboard displayed "service charging system" along with a red warning symbol resembling a charging cord. I was able to get the vehicle off the roadway and into a parking lot. The Jeep then came to a stop. The vehicle remained powered on and the dashboard remained illuminated, but pressing the accelerator produced no response. The Jeep would not move. I turned the vehicle completely off and waited several minutes. When I restarted it, the Jeep started and operated normally again. The Jeep spent approximately three months at an authorized Jeep dealership for multiple electrical/charging system problems and diagnostic trouble codes. During that time, the 12-volt battery was replaced and the integrated charging dual module (icdm) was replaced. The Jeep operated normally for approximately three months following those repairs before this incident occurred. This was an extremely serious safety event. The vehicle unexpectedly lost propulsion while actively traveling on a public roadway. If this had occurred at highway speeds, while merging, crossing traffic, or in heavy traffic, I may not have been able to safely get the vehicle off the roadway. I am particularly concerned because the malfunction disappeared after shutting the vehicle off and restarting it, making the failure intermittent and unpredictable. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this sudden loss-of-propulsion incident and determine whether it is related to other reported loss-of-motive-power problems involving Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles. The photograph included is not my Jeep but shows what happened.
From a stop sign vehicle would only accelerate to 4 mph and then completely lost forward propulsion, forcing a tow to the dealership.
On September 24, 2026, recall 68c was completed on my Jeep Wrangler 4xe by an authorized Jeep dealership. Following completion of the recall, the first attempt to charge the vehicle resulted in an electrical fire at the charging location. During the charging event, the charger and electrical outlet melted, and the wiring connected to the outlet began to burn. The fire appears to have originated at the charging equipment and outlet. No visible damage occurred to the vehicle itself; however, the charger, outlet, and wiring sustained significant damage. Post-recall vehicle performance concerns: since completion of recall 68c, the vehicle has not operated correctly in electric mode. The following conditions were not present prior to the recall service: the internal combustion engine (ice) repeatedly cycles on and off while the vehicle is displaying "electric" mode on the instrument panel. Acceleration and overall vehicle performance are significantly reduced. The vehicle experiences severe throttle lag and delayed accelerator response. In some instances, there is little or no throttle response, followed by sudden engine engagement at engine speeds exceeding 3,000 rpm. Vehicle operation in electric mode is inconsistent and unpredictable. These performance issues began immediately following completion of recall 68c and have persisted since the recall service was performed. Additional information: I have become aware of reports from other Jeep 4xe owners who have described similar drivability and electric mode concerns after completion of recall 68c. Given the charging-related fire event and the significant changes in vehicle operation that appeared immediately after the recall was performed, I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether these conditions may be related to the recall 68c remedy or associated software and system changes. Safety concerns: fire hazard during charging. Loss of expected vehicle performance. Delayed or unpredictable throttle response.
While driving my 2023 Jeep Wrangler sahara 4xe at approximately 70 mph in hybrid mode the vehicle suddenly and without warning experienced a complete loss of propulsion while I was traveling in traffic. The vehicle would no longer respond normally to the accelerator and I was unable to maintain speed. The drive (d) indicator began flashing and multiple warning lights and messages appeared on the instrument cluster. I specifically remember the red battery/charging-system warning being illuminated. The dashboard also displayed a warning relating to the power/charging system and a message instructing me to shift or put the vehicle into park. I had to get the vehicle safely out of moving traffic. This was extremely frightening because the loss of propulsion occurred suddenly at highway speed and could have resulted in a serious collision. This vehicle has previously been brought to an authorized Jeep dealership multiple times for recalls/service involving the battery/electrical/12-volt system. On a previous occasion, the vehicle also failed to start while parked in my garage. After this highway incident occurred and after I was eventually able to get the vehicle operating again, my husband disconnected the 12-volt battery in an attempt to perform a hard reset. The battery was disconnected after the loss-of-propulsion event and therefore did not precede the highway failure. The vehicle is currently at an authorized Jeep dealership for diagnosis. I have asked the dealership to document the complete loss of propulsion, retrieve any available stored, pending, history or permanent diagnostic trouble codes, and determine the cause of the failure. I am reporting this incident because I am very concerned that an electrical, hybrid, battery, charging or powertrain defect may cause the vehicle to suddenly lose motive power again while being driven. A sudden loss of propulsion at highway speed presents a serious safety risk to the occupants of this vehicle and to other motorists.
Driving in full electric mode after about 6 miles, while trying to accelerate to cross in front of traffic you have a major power loss. You will start to decelerate then the engine will kick in and start at full power load 6-7 thousand rpm the vehicle will lung and a large smell of over fueling comes in the vents. This happens with very drive, some are more dangerous.
Every recall they have done on our Jeep regarding the battery has diminished the performance of our Jeep. Now in electric mode , you never know what you are going to get. Sometimes it has decent power and other times it lags and does nothing. Really scary when you are trying to merge. When it is in hybrid mode, the engine kicks on at what seems like full throttle which is not safe either. When we bought it new, neither of these were problems. I want it back to what I originally bought which felt way more safe to drive. I don’t even want my [xxx] and [xxx] kids to drive it because of how unpredictable it is to drive. Since the 68c recall I experience power loss that makes it very difficult to safely operate vehicle in electric only mode. Power loss occurs while attempting to merge into highway traffic sometimes. It also abruptly shifts into gas mode while not in peak demand mode.
My vehicles check engine light came on in the morning when starting the vehicle. It was a solid check engine light not flashing. I proceede to drive the vehicle and while pressing the accelerator the vehicle does not move. The engine done not connect immediatly, this is a hybrid vehicle so it attempts to use both the electrical and gas motors. The engin begins to rev very high and then after somewhere between 5-10 secounds of no power the vechicle jumps forward with the gas engine connecting. I attempt to put the vehicle into gas only mode, but this also does not work as this setting is turned off along with the electrical only mode. Other interior electronics are not working either. When attempting to drive to my local auto parts store to find out the codes for the check engine the vehicle shut off the gas engine preventing the vehicle from accelerating. Then seemingly randomly the engine will kick on and lurch the vehicle forward and then stop and turn off the gas engine again. The safty of myself and other are at risk because of the uncontrolable acceleration or loss of power randomly while driving. The problem has now been reproducable for multiple days. I have reported it to my dealership bloomington chrystler, Jeep, Dodge, ram. And was told they do not have any appointments available and I should wait and should be safe to continue driving. Upon getting the codes from the auto parts store obd2 scanner I received 4 counts of the p0bee code and 1 count of the p1abc code. I informed my dealership of this and they told me that I should continue to drive it until my appointment and that they can assess it then. In the mean time I have lost power in the middle of intersections while attempting to drive through. I have lurched forward into crosswalks with pedestrians attempting to cross the street at stop signs and have lost power on streets when slowing down causing the vehicle to be unable to restart until coming to a complete stop and restarting.
The high voltage battery failed to charge, power surges and power drops while on highway plus burning smell. Charger stopped charging and gave warning light. No one was able to replicate so I was forced to take vehicle back. I am in las vegas and asked if this could be the issue. No one could verify or give me advice. Having done my own investigations I see high temperatures can affect and cause thermal fires. The manufacturer is not taking this seriously and also dealers in nevada where it is excessively over recommended temperatures to charge should be making owners of these vehicles aware or don’t sell them in the state. I have been treated appallingly from everyone trying to ensure my safety. Although I was lucky there was no serious incident I believe this will happen. Furthermore with the fires in ev or hybrids, why if excessive heat is an issue, are the fires not being investigated as to where and what states. I thought NHTSA was there to protect and provide safety information for manufacturers to follow. I am being left to drive a vehicle in which me my family and others are being put in danger.
Whatever I am driving in electric mode usually when I’m down to under 40% electricity, the vehicle decides to shut electricity off and start to load the motor. It’s still flashing on the dash that it’s an electric mode and I tend to lose significant power. I try to give it gas there is no reaction with the gas pedal and then all of a sudden the engine will kick on and I will go into the gas motor running the vehicle why it’s still in electric mode. This happens every day and this is getting ridiculous with the problems that this Jeep is having it seems like Jeep and solanus do not care. We call Jeep care and they just ignore all of our problems and I know this is a widespread problem throughout the us and canada these vehicles are unsafe to drive when you’re on the highway and electric mode and it all of a sudden you have no gas pedal in the vehicle significantly slows down and the regenerative braking does not work anymore either at any time after the 68c recall can you please help us.
The vehicle feels unsafe due to lack of acceleration when in electric mode, or when the car elects to switch from gas to electric on its own. The car will constantly fluctuate between gas and electric mode on the highway even when in cruise. This all stared happening after getting the latest recall performed (68c) on my hybrid Jeep Wrangler.
My 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe high altitude received fca recall 68c. Since the recall was completed, the vehicle has experienced repeated and unpredictable reductions in available propulsion during normal driving. The problem is most noticeable when accelerating to merge onto highways, enter traffic, or pass slower vehicles. During these situations, I depress the accelerator expecting normal acceleration, but the vehicle frequently provides significantly reduced power. There is a noticeable delay before the gasoline engine produces sufficient propulsion, leaving the vehicle unable to accelerate as expected for several seconds. Based on my experience, the condition is significantly worse during hot weather. As outside temperatures increase, the hesitation and reduction in available propulsion appear to occur more frequently and are more pronounced. This has caused me to lose confidence in the vehicle's ability to accelerate when needed. This condition creates a serious safety hazard because surrounding traffic continues at highway speeds while my vehicle is unable to accelerate as commanded. In [xxx], this hazard is particularly acute because many interstate and highway entrance ramps are relatively short, requiring drivers to accelerate quickly to merge safely into traffic traveling at highway speeds. When the vehicle unexpectedly limits propulsion or delays engaging the gasoline engine, there may not be sufficient distance to reach the speed necessary to merge safely, increasing the risk of a collision. The same issue also affects attempts to pass slower vehicles on two-lane highways, where timely acceleration is essential for safe operation. The vehicle does not display diagnostic trouble codes or warning messages when this occurs. Because no diagnostic codes are stored, I have not taken the vehicle to the dealer, as other owners have reported that dealerships are unable to identify or repair the condition in the absence of fault codes. The lack of diagnostic codes information redacted pursuant to the freedom of in.
Supplemental safety complaint — post-68c recall throttle non-response and loss of drive power — case 11753417. Supplemental incident report referencing prior NHTSA complaint case number 11753417. August 2, 2026. 75°f ambient temperature, low humidity. Vehicle operated normal for approximately 15 electric miles at 40-55 mph, then with 7 miles remaining ev range, electric drive mode exhibited violent, random transitions to ice engagement. Critical safety concern: pressing accelerator produced zero throttle response for 1-2 seconds during transitions at several intervals. Driver (spouse) felt unsafe. **this incident demonstrates the post-68c software behavior is triggered by both thermal conditions and low battery state of charge — not temperature alone as previously documented. A throttle dead zone of 1-2 seconds during normal driving constitutes an unreasonable safety risk under federal standards, particularly during merging and intersection navigation. Requesting NHTSA investigate whether the 68c recall remedy introduced unaddressed safety defects affecting throttle response across the 4xe population.
Sometimes pulling out my Wrangler hesitates to accelerate. I've had couple of scary situations megeing onto the highway and pulling out at a intersection. Sometimes going up hill it seems to lose power. The Jeep used to never have a problem in any of these situations. Something has seemed to change. Help!.
Following the 68c recall remedy, my vehicle's electric drive mode exhibits intermittent and unsafe power loss during normal operation. Symptoms include sudden rpm spikes, abrupt ice engagement, loss of drive power with a delay before the gas engine catches, and electric mode becoming temporarily unavailable — occurring unpredictably during stop-and-go traffic, merging, and intersection navigation. I have documented a consistent thermal threshold trigger: symptoms reliably emerge after 10-20 minutes of electric mode operation in ambient temperatures above approximately 80°f, and onset is faster when the battery is warm from prior use. No fault codes are generated because the power limiting appears to be intentional software behavior implemented via the 68c recall remedy — not a malfunction. As a result, dealers scan the vehicle, find no codes, and characterize the behavior as normal operation. Stellantis marketed this vehicle on its electric drive capability. Following the 68c recall, a software update appears to have throttled that capability to protect the battery pack from thermal overload — likely because the cooling system cannot maintain safe battery temperatures under sustained electric load. Jeep now calls this reduced capability "normal operation," effectively DE-featuring the vehicle via recall remedy while introducing a new safety risk: unexpected power loss during merging and intersection navigation with a dangerous delay before ice engagement. I have an open fca customer care case on this issue. The dealer has declined to road-test the vehicle until symptoms are actively occurring. I am requesting NHTSA investigate whether the 68c recall remedy introduced an unaddressed safety defect affecting all 4xe vehicles in this population. Videos of symptoms available via youtube: [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
2023 Jeep Wrangler sahara 4xe has been recalled several times for battery potential fire risk issues due to faulty hi voltage battery design. Each time, a software patch was applied to provide a 'fix'. With my engineering background, I am very sensitive to machinery and its behavior. I have noticed with each successive update, the power output of the traction battery has been capped or limited to restrict maximum current draw from the battery to prevent over heating. With the latest 68c recall, there is now a clear safety issue. Power is restricted so much, pulling on a highway is dangerous. As I accelerate, battery output climbs to 50%, the engine comes on and there is a significant pause before acceleration can resume safely. Under battery only acceleration, the car bogs down with loss of power. The 4xe no longer resembles the vehicle I purchased. Jeep needs to do a physical remedy to restore original specs or buy back the car, 100% of purchase price. This is a clear safety issue. While Jeep has tried to fix the fire risk, they have created a new safety hazard.
After a recent recall for the battery, the vehicle did not operate as it did before with regards to ‘electric only’ mode. The vehicle engine would intermittently start under seemingly normal conditions ( no major hills or hard pressing of gas) despite being in the electric mode. There would be a noticeably high rpm cycle when this happened.
Our Jeep 4xe underwent the recall for the hybrid battery. The battery was replaced in may 2026, since then the vehicle hesitates to accelerate at speed causing a safety concern. This vehicle has been recalled so many times we have no confidence in the vehicle.
Failed component: powertrain (pcm/tcm/hcp software calibration) & electrical/steering (fire recalls). Safety risk & description: following recent mandatory manufacturer software updates, this vehicle has developed a severe, dangerous drivetrain defect. Under light acceleration from a complete stop, the vehicle exhibits an extreme throttle lag and hard delay before violently surging forward, creating a high risk of intersection collisions. Furthermore, at sustained highway speeds (52–63 mph), the vehicle abruptly drops out of electric mode, causing the gas engine to violently spike to 5,000 rpms before dropping back. This erratic cycling causes the vehicle to lurch, jerk, and pull, actively disrupting lane control. Compounding this, due to consecutive, unresolved fire safety recalls—including recall 68c (battery fires) and the June 2026 power steering pump wiring fire recall—the vehicle cannot be safely parked inside my garage or near structures while turned off. It represents a total loss of normal use and a severe safety liability. Dealer confirmation & history: the driving defect was formally duplicated and confirmed by a certified technician on 06/09/2026 at ryan auto mall (repair order #471599). The technician explicitly documented the electric mode dropouts and acceleration lag in writing. However, because the vehicle’s software masking prevents standard diagnostic trouble codes (dtcs) from triggering, the dealer closed the ticket stating it is "operating as designed. " the vehicle's electrical and hybrid systems have been repeatedly altered via mandatory safety recalls: recall 23a/04b (05/14/2024), recall 95b (05/27/2025), and recall 68c (02/11/2026). No dashboard warning lights are present; the dangerous handling is entirely coded into the manufacturer's latest software updates. Vehicle is intact and available for inspection.
Following completion of the 68c recall/software update around January 31, I noticed a significant change in the performance and drivability of my Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The most noticeable difference was a reduction in acceleration and overall power. The Jeep no longer had the quick, torquey response it previously had, which was one of the primary characteristics that attracted me to the 4xe. At times, pressing the accelerator resulted in noticeable hesitation and very weak acceleration. On one occasion, I pulled into traffic expecting the Jeep to accelerate normally, but it initially did not respond as expected, requiring substantially more throttle to get the vehicle moving. This created a legitimate drivability and safety concern. My impression was that the vehicle's hybrid/electric output had been significantly restricted following the recall update. Based on discussions occurring among other 4xe owners, similar behavior was being described as the vehicle being "nerfed," with reduced electrical output and battery utilization intended to protect the high-voltage battery. Regardless of the cause, the reduction in performance was clearly noticeable compared with how the Jeep drove before the update. In the period leading up to the eventual failure, I also noticed that the Jeep's acceleration felt increasingly abnormal. In retrospect, the change was noticeable enough that I suspected something might be developing before the vehicle ultimately failed. The Jeep later developed a high-voltage battery fault associated with battery-pack voltage variation/cell imbalance. The vehicle displayed warning messages, including "service charging system," along with a check-engine light. It also experienced rough idling and eventually became unreliable to start or move. The failure progressed to the point where the Jeep broke down while I was leaving home. After shutting the vehicle off, it would not reliably restart. At different points it briefly powered on, including while bei.
After the 68c recall was completed, which was a new electric battery, I have had an ongoing issue of losing power when merging back onto a road on city streets as well as onto the hwy. Its very scary to have this loss of power and very dangerous. I also have an issue of short engine runs while in hybrid or electric mode and they seem to be for no reason at all. I can be going the same speed or just barely increase the speed. It may go in and out several times during the drive for no reason at all. I have been told this is not good for the engine. Long tern. Now, today I had to get an oil change to get myself out of form. I was not due for an oil change. But, I went into form after getting fresh gas and it stayed there for a week. Not sure if it was ever going to go back to being able to use electric or hybrid mode. Also this summer I would go into form several times, I purchased this vehicle brand new and I never had this issue the previous 3 summers. It would go out of form if I would add gas. But, this time it did not. So, I had to pay for an oil change before actually needing one. I just want my 4xe back to the way it was before the 68c recall. It seems like there may have been a new programing change or something, not sure, but this is not the same vehicle I purchased. Losing power is also very dangerous. I am hoping Jeep can make a fix. I loved this vehicle prior to 68c and honestly had no issues until now. Again, this is an ongoing issue. Thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
After receiving the 68c recall, which was a software update to protect Jeeps defective hv battery maintenance system, I have experienced two dangerous situations while driving in electric mode. After this recall when driving in electric mode the vehicle will start moving from a stop and then stall. The only way to continue after this high risk delay is to put the accelerator to the floor so the gas engine will kick in. This delay can be a couple seconds. My two circumstances are as follows. Once when crossing an intersection after stopping at a stop sign my Jeep moved into the intersection and stalled in the middle of it. There was traffic from the cross road that needed to stop to miss me. The second occurrence was when I was taking a right into moving traffic. Again I was able to enter the road but the Jeep stalled and I was idle as 50 mph traffic was bearing down on me. They too needed to slow to avoid hitting me. The only work around is to not drive in electric mode which is not how the vehicle was intended. Please look into this problem before people are hurt or killed. Thanks.
Post 68c recall, the vehicle performance in all electric mode is greatly diminished. At lower speeds, and electric motor exertion, the vehicle will rapidly and violently switch to combustion power going from 0-3500 rpm’s with no engine warming cycle. Additionally, at 50% battery charge and below, the vehicle can fail to accelerate at all, experiencing a near dead gas pedal, which can be seriously unsafe when attempting to merge or turn into traffic. Based on my experience, these symptoms are exacerbated by warm temperatures, which may be indicative of the manufacturer changing battery temperature thresholds to protect a still defective battery. This vehicle no longer performs as it was advertised and sold to perform following multiple recalls for the same issue. This needs to be resolved once and for all, as it has become a much less safe vehicle to drive as it will switch from ice to electric unpredictably, causing either rapid, unexpected acceleration or a dead pedal from a stop. Please hold the manufacturer accountable.
I purchased a new 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe on October 7, 2022, with 15 miles on the vehicle. As of September 19, 2026, the vehicle has 34,764 miles. All safety recalls have been completed: • recall 53a – may 19, 2023 • recall 95b – December 12, 2024 • recall 68c – February 3, 2026 (hybrid battery replaced) • recall 21d – July 10, 2026 since the hybrid battery was replaced under recall 68c in February 2026, I have noticed a significant change in vehicle operation. The vehicle does not remain in electric mode for very long before automatically switching to gasoline operation. My primary safety concern is delayed acceleration. There is a noticeable pause between pressing the accelerator and the vehicle responding, particularly when accelerating from a stop or entering a highway. This lack of immediate acceleration could create a dangerous situation when quick acceleration is needed to safely enter or merge with traffic. I did not experience this level of delayed acceleration before the hybrid battery was replaced. The change occurred after the battery replacement. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate whether the hybrid battery replacement, hybrid powertrain, or related software may be contributing to the delayed acceleration and unexpected transition from electric to gasoline operation.
There is another recall 2nd one for this vehicle that now I cannot charge it . Park near other vehicles or in my garage due to fear of fire. Dealership says they are doing approx 1-2 a month and I am #59 on the list. I have not been offered a replacement vehicle. They told me I could not trade it in because it is “unsellable”.
Following 2nd battery recall, acceleration, especially with the electric on, is sluggish and then suddenly electric fails and gas engine kicks in with a lurch. Electric no longer has the power it did prior to the recall and this provides uncertain acceleration for entering freeway from onramps or during other periods of needed acceleration.
Ongoing issue, noticed when turning into turns the Jeep will lose some power making it hard to accelerate with traffic, continuous power loss or motor doesnt respond like it should, reduced power when trying to stay with traffic or accessing the highway, motor will randomly start when in battery mode, if in battery mode Jeep will not accelerate over 60mph while on highway, motor will come on for no reason while driving 35-40mph, issue is unsafe when doesnt respond like it should. This all started after the 68c recall, loading the engine immediately with no warm up could cause internal damage to engine.
The hybrid propulsion system in my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe intermittently malfunctions while driving. The “d” (drive) indicator on the gear selector begins flashing, and the engine rpms suddenly decrease without warning. During these events, the vehicle loses propulsion power and responsiveness. After several seconds, the vehicle may return to normal operation. This failure affects the hybrid powertrain and transmission system. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. This condition creates a serious safety risk because the sudden loss of propulsion reduces the vehicle’s ability to accelerate or maintain speed in traffic. This is especially dangerous when merging, crossing intersections, or driving at highway speeds, as it increases the risk of collision due to loss of power and reduced vehicle control. The vehicle has been evaluated by a Jeep dealership service department. The dealership has not provided a permanent repair, and the manufacturer recall affecting the hybrid system remains open and unresolved. The recall repair has not been performed, and the hybrid malfunction continues to occur. The vehicle has been inspected by dealership personnel, but the issue remains unresolved. The dealership indicated that replacing the 12-volt battery may help, but no definitive root cause has been identified, and the hybrid system malfunction continues. There were no battery warning lights prior to or during the failure. The primary symptom is the flashing “d” indicator and sudden decrease in rpms, followed by temporary recovery. This indicates a malfunction of the hybrid propulsion system. This unresolved hybrid system failure presents an ongoing safety hazard and loss of propulsion while driving.
Official report: unjustified denial of safety remedy & data inconsistency - VIN: 1c4jjxn6xpw623043 I am filing this official complaint regarding a significant barrier to resolving safety recall 68c (battery fire risk) and recall 78c on my 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe. 1. Debunking manufacturer claims: stellantis middle east (ref: fa-25274) has declined to perform the remedy, claiming authorized dealers in my region lack the necessary equipment. This is factually incorrect. The manufacturer's own portal (Jeep. Com) confirms that recall 04b (hcp software update) was successfully repaired on this VIN by the local authorized dealer (harlem cars). 2. Disappearing safety records: I possess a prior screenshot from the official portal confirming that recall 95b (high voltage battery) was also successfully repaired by the same dealer. However, this record has recently disappeared from the active recall list on the manufacturer's website. This removal of a safety record, combined with the current denial of service, raises serious concerns about data integrity and safety compliance. 3. Proven technical capability: the successful completion of recall 95b and 04b-both involving high-voltage systems and software-proves the dealer is fully equipped. Furthermore, mopar session b27c4acf-bcff-4dbc-99ac-aba6477d31b1 confirms active, real-time communication between the dealer's witech 2. 0 tools and u. S. Servers. 4. Request: I request NHTSA to intervene and compel stellantis to provide the necessary software permissions to the local dealer to resolve the 68c fire hazard and the idcm replacement immediately.
Two issues. The first involves shaking and veering which continues since the purchase and this is the fourth time I have had concerns with this. Vehicle it shakes at any speed and violently if I dont let up off the gas. The second issue occured while driving on the 5 freeway with the speed control on and suddenly there was a loud boom thud sound behind the front seet like running over a tire or something, the vehicle began to slow I applie gas and noticed the panel radio etc all working but a message appeared to stop or pull over and park and restart; however when I looked down to see if was in gear and it was in d and blinking like it does in park assist. The screen also ramdomly swithche the view. Vehicle is currently in the dealership.
1. Vehicle loses power when accelerating in full electric causing serious unpredictable delays. Dealer applied bulletins 08-262-26 and 08-039-26, which hard-coded a dangerous throttle lag into the vehicle, creating a severe safety hazard when merging into highway traffic. The dealership will be unable to fix this issue from this point moving forward.
Lost all power to vehicle after driving for approximately 40 minutes, around 60-70 mph. I was driving on the highway and then lost all power. I was able to pull off of the interstate and got a few blinking messages. The only one I remember was "shift to p to start". I could not accelerate at all and probably had less than a minute to get to safety before the car coasted to a stop and I was forced to put the car in park and turn it back on. It seemed like a forced restart on a computer but you could not choose the time or place to do it and there was very little warning. This is a huge safety issue!.
The vehicle’s hybrid system has been dramatically changed and power has been dramatically decreased following several safety recalls on the vehicle’s hybrid battery. While my vehicle always passed these recalls and the original battery is still in the car, I believe software upgrades to how the hybrid system functions have created a safety issue. Specifically, the power the hybrid system provides has been decreased and the engine is forced to turn on sporadically. This at times happens with a delay, causes issues when merging / getting up to speed, and is an overall safety issue. While I have enjoyed having the vehicle, I believe Jeep needs to address this issue to return the vehicle to closer to its original ability and software package in order to make the vehicle as safe as it originally was. The dealer is unable to assist with this and it is more about Jeep corporate putting in the resources to solve the problem the battery and software package has created. Thank you, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
"vehicle is subject to recall 68c (fire risk). Manufacturer states remedy is 'not yet available. ' I am instructed not to charge the battery and to park away from structures. I cannot safely park the vehicle at my home or use the electric propulsion I am paying for. The vehicle presents an immediate fire hazard while parked. ".
On 12/06/2025, I purchased a 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe from a Chrysler Jeep dealership in myrtle beach, SC. Recall 68c (NHTSA 25v741000) had been published on 11/05/2025 — one month prior to my purchase. The recall involves high voltage battery cells with separator damage that may cause a vehicle fire while parked or driving. A stop sale order was active on this VIN at the time of sale. I raised the recall and fire risk during the purchase. The salesperson responded that "a fire could happen in any car" and continued to minimize my wife's specific safety concerns through sustained pressure until we agreed to purchase. No documentation was provided showing the recall had been remedied prior to delivery. The recall remains open as of today. Third-party vehicle history data confirms stop sale: yes tied to 68c. We cannot charge the vehicle or use it as intended. We are unable to obtain timely service — the dealership reports months-long wait times with no loaner vehicle available. The vehicle has not been inspected or repaired for this defect. No warning lamps were present at purchase. The vehicle was available for sale and delivered to us despite the active stop sale designation. The safety risk is ongoing. We are parked away from structures per NHTSA guidance and have ceased charging the vehicle. This complaint is being filed as part of a formal legal record.
Last week the cat went in for the open recalls. However the electrical and propulsion problems are still going on so I think it’s more than software. The car jerks and come close to stalling almost like a standard transmission with the clutch not catching properly. Additionally, and this is separate and does not occur with the problem described above. The dashboard lights randomly go off. It has no correlation to anything just randomly shut off then come back on.
My leased 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe is included in recall #68c (NHTSA #25v741000) for a battery fire risk when parked. Jeep and NHTSA have both advised owners not to charge or park the vehicle near structures due to a potential fire hazard. This makes the vehicle unsafe and unusable under normal lease conditions. I contacted my leasing company, Chrysler capital, to request assistance because the vehicle cannot be safely used or parked. Their representatives repeatedly refused to escalate or document my case and stated that they “can’t do anything,” including refusing to provide a supervisor’s id or written confirmation. I feel unsafe keeping or driving the vehicle, and I believe I should not be charged lease fees or penalties while it is under this recall. I am requesting that this issue be investigated and that Jeep and Chrysler capital provide appropriate lease termination or safety accommodations.
Recall for electric battery packs in the electric Wrangler manufacture requires that we don't park the vehicle in our garage and we don't charge or use the electric battery this pretty much makes my vehicle unusable as I drive the electric motor and my only free parking space is inside my garage.
On October 25th, 2025 my husband and I were driving home on the freeway. All of a sudden, without any warning notice or check engine light, my hybrid 2023 Jeep caught on fire as we were in it driving down the freeway. The fire started under the hood and under us. Flames were coming up the sides of the Jeep as we drove and were getting bigger then coming in the vents and under the hood. My husband pulled the Jeep over to the shoulder and we quickly got out and away from the Jeep and called 911 for help. Cars were still driving down the freeway as the Jeep was engulfed in flames. Our safety was put at high risk since we were driving on the freeway at highway speeds and the Jeep caught on fire without any warning and my husband and I were sitting inside the Jeep traveling while it was actively on fire and getting worse. We were located right by the fire as we were driving. It was under us, in front of us and growing around us. Others were put at risk because there was a large fire on the side of the freeway as other vehicles were driving by. A semi truck almost hit the median in the freeway when it probably noticed what was going on. Further, vehicles were driving in the right hand lane right beside the active fire. My Jeep was sparking, throwing flames and some things exploded. Jeep hybrids have had problems and my Jeep has had many recalls and problems. Stellantis was involved with the last few dealership service visits. The Jeep was not charging so a new charging system was put in it at the dealership. The Jeep had a red turtle come on as I was driving and it drastically slowed my speed down suddenly. I pulled over and then my Jeep turned off and would not start again for hours. The dealership, with stellantis involved, put in a new rechargeable battery. These were some of the things done recently prior to my Jeep catching on fire en route in addition to many recalls/updates. There were no warning signs at all prior to his Jeep fire.
I just left my house and I was getting on the highway and the service 4 wheel drive light came on then all a sudden the car slowed down then it accelerated really fast so I pulled over and put it in park then when I tried to continue driving I put it in drive and it would not move. The engine ran but it would not move so I had to get it towed to the dealership.
I have a hybrid Jeep 4xe, 2023. Allegedly unaffected by the software issue over the weekend that caused countless issues for 2024 and 2025 Jeeps. My 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe stopped suddenly while driving. Unfortunately, I panicked in the moment, so I do not remember if it completely powered off or if it just lost propulsion, but it stopped. I had to turn the car off and then back on to get it to go the next day. My check engine light came on for about 24 hours and went off again.
There is a problem with my electrical system. I have brought it in to Jeep several times, and they have brushed it off. In July 2024 I was driving and the car shut off in the middle of traffic. I was able to come to a stop in a turning lane, but it was a dangerous, scary situation. When I took it to the dealership, they said they could not replicate it and sent me on my way. In March 2024 I was stranded at night at a dog park when my car wouldn't start. There was a message stating that the electrical system needed to be serviced. I had it towed to the dealership and they said it was just the engine battery and an issue with a sensor that was put in upside down. In October 2024 I received a notice not to charge my battery or park it in or near buildings. There was no fix. Then, they had software update that was supposed to fix internal problems with the batteries. I asked for a new battery without the issues, and they said no. The scariest, and biggest problem I'm having, though, is that intermittently I lose power when trying to accelerate into traffic. This has led to many scary incidents of other drivers nearly hitting me and being very upset. The most recent incident was on Wednesday, February 12. I was driving on highway 12 in the morning on my way to work and a car pulled in front of me. To avoid a collision, I swerved to the left lane and tried to accelerate to get out of the way of the car behind me and my car would not accelerate. I had to take my foot off the gas, then push again to get it to go. It was terrifying and dangerous. The car behind me nearly hit me, and they honked and were very upset. This situation happens probably once or twice a month. I had my car in the shop to address these issues and I had a rental car and Jeep said they would work with the dealer to repair. They never did. Never called me back, and now they are refusing my rental reimbursement. I don't have anymore money to pay for another so I'm stuck.
2023 vehicle no problems until 95b safety recall was performed. Warning light low air next day. Two wks after recall serv. And less than 4-6 months after reg. Maint. & oil change the check engine light came on upon start. Checked and the black coolant reservoir the caps dip stick was void of fluid I was told. Called dealer to advise. Visited dealership the head mechanic dx that the gas cap seal is bad. The check engine light off and not the low to empty coolant. Complaint is the warning light panel. The electrical wires exposed hanging broken small panel on the passengers side of the rearview mirror. Noticed after pickup from dealership. This was addressed with service depart. These panel, coolant, panel broke handing wires, gas cap seal are all issues after recall services. I believe it is unlikely just electrical issues that occurred when it was recently in for the battery recall requiring overnight parking. It was left overnight as they needed to know if it would catch fire. I was not informed if it was necessary as I’ve read to test drive it on electric before it was returned to me. The advisor was in days off happened to be in and was pleasant but I felt rushed. I was given the paper to sign and just told all is well, period. Broken panel part with electrical wires hanging out of rearview mirror. Gas cap seal that is now faulty setting of warning check engine light but not the low coolant? no explanation for damaged panel part and reason for messing with the wires. Concerns are engine, electrical and panel failure. Engine should not have issue with coolant. It never should’ve gotten to that point. The fact that there was low to no coolant as the dip stick didn’t register any. It’s a solid black reservoir not able to visibly check for coolant. I find it’s a safety issue, a mechanical issue. The head mechanic is saying that we would’ve never known about coolant needed had it not been for the only 2 yr old gas cap that leaves engine warning light on.
Sorry for my bad english, I am from quebec, in canada. On [xxx], our Jeep Wrangler 2023 burned. The 95b recall was process on December 19th 2024. The battery burned, no flames were visible, only chemical fire. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Jeep 4xe: after coming to a complete stop or just slowing down and entering a lower gear, has a 1-2 second delay in the accelerator. Has caused tires to squeal when accelerator started to respond. Have almost caused accidents when becoming unresponsive as the vehicle will move forward but lose accelerator power. This happens infrequently and spontaneously which makes it impossible to plan for/ drive defensively against, cannot replicate or force it to happen. Vehicle can be inspected upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? vehicle will move forward after stopping, such as an intersection, and suddenly does not increase for 1-2 seconds making me a hazard to traffic. This happens maybe 1-3x a week and is impossible to replicate. Have been almost rear ended many times as no brake lights appear when this happens. Have almost been t-boned by oncoming traffic because of the delay. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? no. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? vehicle has had engine repaired and inspected by dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no.
Second time we have had an issue with the battery. Unable to plug it is because of an unresolved battery recall, this time for over a month. We purchased the vehicle specifically for the battery and now we have to buy fuel.
The safety of this vehicle is a ticking time bomb. We are instructed not to park in or near a structure, near other vehicles, or charge it. Even if I don’t not charge it how am I supposed to park at my own home? how am I supposed to park at work? you are putting several lives at risk not to mention others vehicles, houses, businesses. I do search and rescue and have my k9 with me pretty much at all times. I am told it can ignite at anytime but it’s ok to leave my dog in? where is the safety and concern over my highly trained k9 let alone family pet. I will never feel safe with this car again. I asked if they even replaced the battery if they could tell me it wouldn’t happen with the new battery and I could park back in my garage and they said no they couldn’t say it wouldn’t happen again.
Recall 95b. I have been given the runaround for months on the status of this recall from the fca recall center and Jeep. I purchased a hybrid Jeep 4xe with the main purpose of being able to run both electric and gas. However, Jeep is telling me not to charge the vehicle, do not park it in the garage, and to make sure that it’s not parked near any structures because of explosion/fire hazard! this is completely unacceptable to not have a resolution for such a major concern in a timely manner.
The vehicle has been under recall since September 2024. They have been unable to repair it. I requested a refund or replacement since it has been nearly a year now without repair. The company offered me $9,000 and $9,000 to the lawyer I had contact them. This is not acceptable since they cannot repair the vehicle they need to refund my money or give me a new car.
Jeep just shut down while heading down interstate 81 about 70 mph in far 3fd left lane not much time to exit the highway had to sit on the left side of the highway and put in park and restart it did start up after the complete shutdown.
The 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4ex shutdown on highway at speed 75 mile/h!!!!! and cannot restart, gear only in p position. Only towing.
My vehicle is waiting for a fix for recall 24v720000 / 95b – it is totally unacceptable that Jeep has no time frame for a solution for this horrific safety issue however my vehicle is having another even more dangerous issue that Jeep refuses to acknowledge and I know I am not the only one with this serious defect. My vehicle (2023 4xe with 5000 miles) losses acceleration power… this has happened at least 10x over the past 5 months. The check engine light often flashes on and off or stays on steady during this. When engaging the gas pedal at various speeds (30-65mph) the gas fails to respond or output any power causing the vehicle to slowdown dramatically. Significant risk of being crashed into. It takes flooring the gas pedal and anywhere from it 10-25 seconds for the power to kick back in / engage and accelerate. I have been trying to get this fixed since August. One Jeep dealership (had my vehicle for 36 days) replicated the issue but got ‘no code’ therefore they could not fix. Since the 24v720000 / 95b was announced 2 months ago no Jeep dealership (I have contacted over 18) will even attempt to investigate or fix this issue as they claim its related to the battery recall 24v720000 / 95b. I urge you to investigate this loss of power before something catastrophic occurs.
Loss of power pulling into traffic 6/6/24, nearly causing an accident, hybrid battery stopped working. Cel and service charging system light. Called dealer and not able to get service appointment until 6/26/24. Used vehicle unsafely until 6/26 without battery. Dropped off at dealer 6/26 and just received the vehicle with repair today, 7/24/24 28 days later.
While driving on highway/freeway at approx 70 mph 2023 Jeep Wrangler 4xe suddenly lost power/engine shut down. I coasted safely and pulled over from the fast lane to the right lane of the freeway to the shoulder. Vehicle was able to be restarted and able to be driven. Now at the dealership.
My gas gauge read 37 miles till empty and then died in the middle of a main rd. Had to get it towed $320 for the tow and $200 diagnostic fee. Just to find out that the gas gauge is incorrect and not to trust it.
This is the second time this Jeep stalls out on us. This most recent time we were traveling on the freeway going about 70mph when all the sudden the Jeep’s motor shuts off and is unresponsive. We are literally coasting in the middle of nowhere hoping the vehicle has enough momentum to get out of the way. Something was blinking on the dash but I couldnt pay attention to that as I was trying to pull over safely. Jeep did not start back up until 2 hours of of waiting on freeway. There are a ton of recalls for this vehicle and as it sits right now the plug in for ev port is not working at all. It makes a ton a strange noises. And to top it off this is a rental car that shouldnt be on the streets earning revenue. This Jeep needs to be appropriately recalled before someone gets injured.
Lost total power in the fast lane on the freeway! lots of flashing indicators: "service charging system", "brake and push button to start", transmission gear "d" flashing with the gear it was in "d and little 8", telling me to put it in park while I was driving on the freeway trying to get over to the side. . . How is that even possible?, further it was coming to a stop quickly like a heavy regenerative braking was one making it even more dangerous as we would about to come to a total stop on the freeway! (I read someone in a Tesla died this way). This was dangerous for us and the cars around us. I have read they have a recall for this very issues in Dec 2022, but my car is not included in the recall so there is a much bigger issue going on! all my recalls are up to date per the dealership. So need NHTSA to step in/up! I attached pictures of what was on the dash after we got over the side of the freeway (was not able to record while it occur for safety reasons, of course).
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? my 2023 Jeep Wrangler rubicon 4xe (VIN [xxx] ) has experienced repeated failures in the high-voltage hybrid electrical system, including “service hybrid system” warnings, failure to hold charge, and loss of ev function. It has also experienced a dangerous front steering damper failure at highway speed. All components remain available for inspection upon request, and the vehicle is still in my possession. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? the hybrid system failures have caused repeated drivability issues, unpredictable power delivery, and warnings advising me not to operate or charge the vehicle due to potential battery-related safety risks. More critically, the steering damper failed abruptly at approximately 75 mph, causing severe front-end instability, vibration, and momentary difficulty maintaining directional control. This failure created an immediate risk of a loss-of-control crash on the highway. Being instructed not to charge the vehicle for months due to safety recalls also indicates a high-voltage battery safety risk that could endanger me, my passengers, and others. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes. Multiple dealerships have documented hybrid-system faults, charging restrictions, and recall-related battery concerns. The “service hybrid system” fault has been observed and documented by authorized Jeep/Chrysler service centers. The steering damper failure was documented during service shortly after the highway incident, and the dealer confirmed the part had failed unexpectedly despite passing inspection less than 1,000 miles earlier. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? the defects have been repeatedly inspected and documented by Jeep/stellantis dealerships. Stellantis has been notified directly information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information.
Brand new 2023 Wrangler with 600 miles on it that I’ve had for 4 days and the engine completely cut off on the busy highway with my whole family in the car. Message appeared on the screen stating “performance limited, service charging system”. We were eventually able to get the engine on again by turning the car off and on which was incredibly dangerous in the middle of a very busy highway. We are very very lucky that this did not all result in a serious accident.
Car just died while driving about 30mph in all electric mode. Charge fault error came on. Loss of steering and brakes. Able to coast to stop. Placed car in e save mode to start engine, was able to get home.
After first month the trouble began. It’s a diesel. Many times this car has stalled in traffic — while stopped in traffic and while driving at high speeds. Everything just turns off and steering wheel locks up. It says to put in park. After many tries to start, it will turn back on. Has been taken to dealer many times and nothing has worked. I’ve left Jeep there for months at a time, and they still can’t fix it. This is a safety hazard. Someone might get killed by this. How can this be allowed? we need help desperately.
Driving on the freeway my Jeep stalled. It was flashing red tk plug it in. I was driving hybrid on a full tank of gas. A truck almost hit me in this process.
I received a recall notice on my Jeep Wrangler sahara 4xe that the vehicle could suddenly shut down while in motion and needed a repair to prevent this from happening. I took it into the dealer to get the repair. At this point the vehicle had about 1200 miles on it. About a week after getting the recall repair, the vehicle shut down without warning while I was driving it in all electric mode. I had to pull off the road, coast to a stop, and restart. I took it back to the dealer and they said that they had never heard of this happening after getting the recall fixed. They said they didn’t know what to do to address it and would be reporting it to Jeep/stellantis hq in detroit. The dealer is jeff d’ambrosio in downingtown, PA. They said they would be back in touch once they heard from detroit. This is extremely concerning and should be investigated.
I am submitting this complaint regarding a confirmed safety-related defect and manufacturer nonresponse involving my 2023 Jeep Wrangler willys 4xe, VIN [xxx] . The failed component is the high-voltage hybrid battery system. The vehicle and battery pack are currently located at an authorized Jeep dealership and are available for inspection. The vehicle was delivered to the dealership on December 29, 2025 for recall-related service. On December 30, 2025, the dealership confirmed a high-voltage battery failure. A star case was opened and escalated to stellantis engineering. The vehicle was immediately removed from service and has remained unusable since that date. Prior to removal from service, the vehicle experienced repeated loss of propulsion, electric mode temporarily unavailable messages, and driveline warnings during normal operation. These symptoms were reported over multiple service visits and documented by video. The vehicle was repeatedly returned to service with repair notes stating “could not replicate” and assurances that it was safe to operate, park indoors, and charge. Those assurances were later contradicted by the confirmed battery failure and recall-related safety restrictions, exposing my family and home to avoidable safety risk. The vehicle is subject to recall campaign 68c. Despite confirmation of a safety-related battery failure, stellantis has not provided a written remediation plan, assigned a decision owner, or communicated a resolution timeline. The dealership has confirmed that further action is blocked pending manufacturer authorization. Stellantis initiated corporate contact by phone on January 27 and January 29, 2026. I responded in writing and by voicemail requesting written follow-up and confirmation of ownership. Stellantis did not respond in writing and did not return my voicemail. I am concerned that a like-for-like high-voltage battery replacement does not adequately remedy the safety defect or restore confidence in information redacted pursuant to the freedom of informatio.
This vehicle was sold unlawfully to me, with an open recall on it. I purchased the brand-new vehicle from sterling heights Dodge, Chrysler Jeep new car dealership on 3/23/23. I got at open of business 9am left shortly after 11am with the new car. 3/24 the vehicle engine lights came on, rpm's were revved high, engine was making loud noises. I called the dealership to make an appointment with service, I was told I can't bring my car there for service it had to go to toledo service dept grogan the closest to me. I was told to drive it as is it would be fine. On 3/26 my vehiicle abruptly stopped in heavy traffic with my 5 year old grandson in the backseat. Nothing worked, all power was dead. I have videos of this. I had to get out and motion for traffic to go around us, several time we were almost hit. The car was towed to grogan they got it in for service 3/28. It was discovered by the service manager on 3/23 when I purchased my new car that new car had an open recall on it launched 3/14/23, and the dealership entered 3/23/23 as the repair date to bypass the system because you can't sell a brand new car with an open recall. The car is dangerous, it has been sitting in service since 3/28 until present date totally disabled without ability to be fixed by grogan experts. The car was unlawfully sold, it was not disclosed there was a open recall or I would have opted to buy a different car. The car is a lemon they will not take the car back although it was sold unlawfully new cars are forbidden to be sold with open recalls, and open recalls are to be disclosed prior to selling consumers cars. It is going to cause a very serious accident with injuries and potentially even fatality.
