Six problems related to other fuel system tank mounting have been reported for the 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2019

Jeep spits fuel back out when you fill up the tank. Not just a small amount either, a good amount all over the Jeep and the floor.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

When pumping fuel while vehicle is stationary the fuel overflows. Must pump in small amounts slowly to keep overflow to a minimum; however, overflow still occurs especially at the end of pumping when the tank is full. Overflow squirts out and sounds like gargling when filling with fuel.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2012

Purchased my 2008 Jeep Wrangler five weeks ago. Since that time, I have filled the fuel tank 6 times. Each and every time the fuel tank has overflowed out and down the side of the body, bumper and pooled on the ground. I have tried slowing the fill rate, guessing the amount that the tank will fill to and even holding the rubber cap on the gas pump filler down tight. It makes no difference. I've been splashed in the face, and on my clothes. I've never seen this on any car I've owned in the past. I'm a professional auto/truck mechanic, this is not user error, it is a design failure of the part. A redesign and recall is in order.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2012

Large amounts of gasoline sprays out when refueling the vehicle. The gasoline comes out with such force that it is impossible to avoid getting gasoline on hand, arm and clothing. It occurs when the tank becomes full. At first I thought it was a problem with the gas stations pump. It was intermittent at first but now occurs every time I put gas in the vehicle regardless of which gas station pump I use. This is more than an inconvenience and should be considered a safety issue!.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2012

I was at the gas station filling up my 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited sahara when the click of the gas pump that lets you know your done filling the tank came on and all of a sudden gas starting overflowing in a large puddle all over the side of my Jeep. I thought it was a fluke of some sort so I didn't think much of it. Then the next time I filled up I had the same situation happen and the same amount came pouring out. After this I knew that there was a problem and I tried filling my tank slowly and it still made no difference in the spillage. I have had this issue occur numerous times since purchasing the vehicle and feel as though it should be recalled. I have contacted the dealership regarding this issue and they state that they have no knowledge of the issue. I have seen numerous other Jeep owners have the same issue. This is a safety hazard and should be an issue fixed by Chrysler.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2008

Jeep jk Wrangler unlimited with passenger side mounted fuel tank and drivers side mounted fuel filler neck has approx 4 ft hose between filler neck and tank. Tank vent return hose to filler neck and filler hose are inadequate engineered causing fuel to back splash every single time you fill the vehicle with fuel and allow the auto shutoff on the pump handle to stop the fuel flow. This problem exist when filling vehicle when it is turned off and when it is running. It is worse when running. In 6 years and 90,000 miles we have spilled hundreds of gallons of fuel at gas stations and we have even had this problem with a 2010 rental Jeep of the same model. A recall needs put in place before a fire occurs at a gas station.
