1 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2021

Gas overspills from the tank. Does not automatically stop when filling causing gas to splash on the owner, vehicle, and ground. Happens every time we attempt to fill the truck unless we manually stop entering gas before it's full.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2020

Gasoline splash back when filling gas tank. The Jeep was in park and level. Gasoline burped out of fuel filler tank tube. All over the Jeep and ground. This happens every time I fill the tank. Also gets on clothes.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2020

When filling up at the gas station, the fuel pump will kick off and a second later gas comes flying out of the tank and hits me, my Jeep and goes all over the ground.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2019

When filling the fuel tank, fuel spills out of filler hole after auto-stop filler nozzle shuts off. !!.

Failure Date: 05/05/2019

When filling the gas tank the gas overflows and spills on the car.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2018

When filling the fuel tank at the gas station if gas pump is on high fuel backsplashes on the vehicle and onto the ground. This is a common problem amongst many Jeep Wrangler owners. Dealership denies any problem. You ask below when did this happen well I will list one date but it happens 50% of the time when filling the Jeep up. I bought the Jeep in 2011 with 40,000 miles on it and has been doing it ever since.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/11/2018

Fuel does not stop filling when tank is full. About a cup or two of fuel overflows before pump stops. This happens at all pumps and has been ongoing for a few weeks. Most recent date is noted.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/29/2018

When filling the fuel tank, fuel spills out of filler hole after auto-stop filler nozzle shuts off.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2017

Purchased vehicle new and historically/currently while filling the fuel tank at numerous gas stations the tank overflows splashing gasoline on the vehicle, ground, and personal clothing. (the vehicle is parked with engine off while refueling).

10 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2016

When filling gas tank fuel comes spewing out before the fuel shutoff on the pump kicks in. No matter if I am holding the lever down just a tiny bit to just slowly fill it up. Every time!.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/27/2016

There is an overflow and expulsion of excess gas from the filler neck when filling the gas tank up all the way immediately after the gas pump shuts off. The vehicle is stationary and in the off position when this occurs. My guess is that approximately 1 pint to 1 quart of liquid is spilled down the side of the Jeep and onto the ground underneath the Jeep.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2015

Gas tanks overflows when filling tank.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2015

Fuel spills out of gas tank at every filling. Strong gas odor from gas tank at all times.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2014

The gas tank spits back fuel after every filling.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

The gas tank can not be filled without constantly re-starting the fuel pump, it stops every few seconds, it happens at every gas station or any fuel pump, so it is definitely not the pump but a problem with the Jeep gas tank and/or it's components. It got worse over the last few weeks and months and is to the point now where it takes me 10-15 minutes to fill up 11 -15 gallons of fuel. The gas tank was replaced under a recall back in 2011 (at approx. 34000 miles) where with the old tank the fuel pump would not stop in time when full and therefore it resulted in the "spill-back" problem every time. This problem was fixed with replacement after recall, but now I have the problem that I just have this extremely difficult time filling the tank.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2014

Gas pours out of filler/neck , gas tank when filling the vehicle up. Have tried holding nozzle at different angles, filling it slower etc however this continues to happen.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

When filling the fuel tank, the fuel stop valve is stuck open causing fuel to spill out when tank gets full. If I remember correctly this valve is there to stop fuel from spilling out in a roll-over accident. If the valve gets stuck open then this can cause a fire/explosion.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2013

Fueling nozzel overflow. Gas pours out of tank nozzle before gas handle shuts off. Spilling gas all over car, person filling tank and surrounding area.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2012

While filling the gas tank fuel burped out of the fill nozzle misting onto the side of the vehicle, gas pump, and operators hand. Fuel pooled below the fill port under the vehicle. The tank was being filled and approaching a full tank, but the pump hand not clicked off and the tank was not being"topped off". This incident occurred two more times since this report today, October 9th 2012. I have seen there is a corrective warranty offered by Chrysler and this incident does not occur if the flow rate is manually slowed when approaching a full tank.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2011

While filling up my vehicle the after the gas nozzle shut off gas began to spew out of the gas tank fill spout. This now happens every time I fill up my vehicle.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2011

Gas cap sensor light on. When filling the tank with gas, the automatic shut off at the pump clicks off, then within 5/10 seconds the gas starts to surge out of the tank all down the Jeep, over the ground, over me. The gas tank and assembly was replaced 3 times in 2011 while still under warranty because the problem kept coming back. The same problem started again 2013. We called the dealer and found that it is covered under an unlimited miles unlimited months extended warranty. Glad we called because we didn't get any notice of this extended coverage in the mail. A separate issue began in 2012 with some leakage of gas under the vehicle and an odor of gas outside the car if the tank was filled up all the way. Since the warranty had expired, our personal mechanic handled it. He replaced a hose that was attached to the fuel tank (the same gas cap sensor light was on for this problem too). He also tightened the fuel pump at the tank where the gas was leaking from and he found a crack in the tank which he patched. This fixed the odor and leaking of gas from under the Jeep. If this problem happens again in the future, now knowing about the extended warranty with the other problem, we will contact the dealer about it to see if it is covered too as it is gas tank related. Note - it was right after our mechanic fixed the odor and under car leak that the other problem of the gas surging out of the pump started again.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2010

Since 2010 I have been having issues with gas over flow when filling the tank. At first I thought it was the gas attendant and being careless. This seems to be an issue mostly in the cooler weather and winter months. It is been becoming progressively worse in the last few months where after researching and speaking with other Jeep owners have found that this has been a hazzard and recall in a lot of Wranglers. I have also learned that my Jeep is not been included in this recall and have to pay for this costly repair myself. I find this unfair of Chrysler to do this to faithful Jeep owners. I also found that I am not alone in these costly repairs as I might also have to replace the whole gas tank. I do not wish to turn this into a battle. Please help me out with this ongoing problem as I am a faithful Jeep lover and want to stay that way. Thank you.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2010

When refueling, the vehicle ejects between 1 tblsp and 1 pint of fuel from the filler neck depending on the pump, outside temperature, and fuel level prior to filling. Fuel is ejected a distance of up to 6' (observed). Fuel is only spilled when the tank is filled and at termination of the procedure. Warm temperatures eject more fuel. This occurs 100% of the time and I need to warn attendants so they don't get fuel splashed on them. We are in oregon where self-service is not allowed.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Filling/charging problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2009

When filling the tank with gas the gas pump does not auto stop filling and gas sprays out of the fill opening around the pump handle. This happens every time I fill up and as a result I must always fill the tank manually. This has happened since 2008 when I purchased the car.
