1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2024

The fuel filler neck has an issue. When I refuel, I have to stop the pump manually or the filler cap will overflow. This creates a significant risk for fire or explosion unless I very carefully monitor how much fuel I am putting in the vehicle. I see several other owners experiencing this issue from online information I'm reading. I feel that this is an issue which should be repaired by the manufacturer.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2022

While pumping fuel the nozzle will continuously trip or spill gasoline back out of the fuel tank filler hose.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2022

I own the Jeep for 6 months now and at each fill up, fuel gets spit out of f the filler neck at the end. I try running slow, manual and the noses in different position. The Jeep dealer say, there is no problem or recall for my VIN. But there is a recall part :(cnnnx321ac tube) available form mopar, there don't sell to the public. I like to fix this problem for more than one reason. Environmental, wasting fuel, damaging the paint and plastic, fire hazard and fuel smell on my closes. I am a retired senior master car technician, german (kraftfahrzeug mechaniker meister)with 50 years experience.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2021

This has happened on more than 1 occasion. Driving on the highway and I lose power, the Jeep slows way down, the accelerator pedal is dead, and the electronic throttle control (etc) light comes on. It does the same thing driving in town. Sometimes you can turn the vehicle off, wait a couple minutes, start it back up and it will be ok for a little bit. Sometimes it won’t. I have replaced some parts, read forums, communicated with a dealer service department and it doesn’t sound like there is a “fix” for this. This is very dangerous and someone could get seriously injured or killed.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2021

Gas going all over the place and on me. Also the Jeep jerks so bad that I almost hit my head. The transmisson was changed 30,000 miles again and runs like crap.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2020

When I fill up the vehicle, gas flows backwards out of the filler neck and pours down the side of the vehicle onto the ground. The fuel also splashes onto me as well. I have the vehicle completely off keys out of the ignition and in park.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2020

When fueling it overflows instead of stopping.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

When filling up with gas at the gas station even if I manually stop the gas flow early the gas overflows out on to the bumper and ground. Major gas spitback!.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2020

Since 2017, every time I pump fuel into the car at gas station, the pump overflows and spills all over the side of the car, the ground and then my feet and hands because I have to step in the puddle and put the gas cap on. I moved to TN from CA in 2016 and I have been thinking that it the shell gas pumps here in TN that were causing it. . . As if they were old or not up to some sort of "CA standard" or something. However, after this problem just happened to my pregnant wife with our 2 year old in the car, I decided to check a Jeep forum and see if anyone else is having this problem. Lo and behold, this appears to be a serious issue dating back 10 years to a 2010 forum I found. . Read more...

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/26/2020

Fuel splash back on refueling.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

Strong fuel odor, this Jeep only has 8. 000 miles on it I bought it used, strong fuel odor in and around Jeep. Have it it in the shop 3 times no one can find the problem, I am afraid of a explosion that's how bad the smell is the fuel smell is overpowering, like I said mechanics at a Jeep dealer can't find out what it is and with having only a little over 8,000 miles it should not be doing this. The odor of gas can be strong while driving with the ac unit going through the vents and when it is stationary it is even stronger, smell started may the 15th 2019.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2019

After fueling the 2008 Jeep Wrangler unlimited x the fuel backflows alot. This seems dangerous, as in what if a fire sparks up at the gas station pump.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2018

Gas and air spit/spill back out of fuel filler neck tube when refueling at gas station pump. Gas runs down fender/fender flare. Problem began around 55-60,000 miles. Jeep continues to give off strong gas vapor odor when parked in garage even weeks after refueling.

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2018

Tipm module is activating the wipers and headlights. Is not allowing turn signals to work after disconnecting battery. Dash lights blink, odometer will blank out for a second at times.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/03/2018

While in motion car dies and lights begin flashing, horn goes off and on, windshield wipers and fluid are activated and doors lock and unlock.

16 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2018

Fueling up the Jeep with the auto shut off at filling stations now causes about 2 cups of gasoline puking out the filler and onto myself , vehicle , and ground. This now happens every fill up.

17 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2018

Gas overflows from gas filler tube after pump has stoped.

18 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2017

Every time you fuel the vehicle to gas overflows out of the fuel inlet onto the side and rear fender of the vehicle.

19 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2017

Car at random will not start, lights will not work or radio will stop working . . . Check engine light stays on without any engine issues . . . To pump fuel it takes 20 minutes to fill it up you can't walk away or it will over flow . . . Jeep left me sit the other day and no garage can tell me whats wrong with it. . . Its not the starter . . .

20 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2017

Every time I fuel up the vehicle gasoline sprays out of the receptacle all over the side of the Jeep and sometimes myself. Happens at multiple gas stations using multiple types of nozzles.

21 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2017

Driver's side front seat belt latch occasionally does not latch also occasionally will not release without having to open roof pull seat belt slack all the way out and stand up in seat to get out of vehicle. Then have to hit and work with latch approximately 2-3 before it will release. If in an accident not sure if seatbelt latch will hold forces or not let you out of a possible burning car. Also fuel backflows from fill inlet at every fillip if I do not stop it before full.

22 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 10/14/2016

The vehicle spills fuel every time it is filled at the gas pump. This happens every time it is filled regardless of the gas station or outside temperature. This has happened since I purchased the vehicle in 2012.

23 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2016

The fuel system does not seem to respond to the shut-off mechanism, which means gas spills out onto the ground, the car and even the owner. This problem has gone on ever since I purchased the car. This is definitely something that could very well cause someone to get hurt or dead. I understand the nhts has reviewed the complaint and determined that there is not a problem but it will be fair if the nhts could re-open this case.

24 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2016

Driving vehicle over 60mph resulted in multiple episodes of the death wobble within a 3 week period of time. Vehicle was purchased at used car dealership and state inspection was performed on the day of purchase. Within 24 hours of having the vehicle, I experienced the first encounter. I was driving down a hill at approximately 60mph and the steering felt shakey and the wheel began to wobble. It subsided as I slowed down. The next day, this occured on a major interstate at 65mph and car was towed to a Jeep dealership. I was informed the ball joints should never have passed inspection along with the fuel system. I took the car back to the dealer and he claimed to have fixed the problem. Within 3 days of getting the Jeep back, once again the wobble occurred at a speed of 65mph and I almost lost control of vehicle. This vehicle should not be on the road. The dealer returned a portion of my purchase price and I returned the Jeep. The Jeep is now back on the lot for sale.

25 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/24/2016

1. Hit a bump going 55mph on the highway and experienced the death wobble. Had to hit the brakes and slow down immediate to 25 mph. Super dangerous on the freeway. Thankfully this was a city freeway that had a speed limit of 55mph. I don't know what would've happened if I was going faster, say on an interstate where the speed limit is 80mph. 2. Whenever I fill up the gas always overflow. So each time now I have to squeeze the pump gently and hold it for the entire fill up. 3. The rear caliper sticks sometimes.

26 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2016

Air bag light is on from a defective clock spring and the vehicle still spits out gas when I fill up.

27 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2016

Spills gas out when filling up.

28 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2016

During fueling my vehicle expels fuel from the fill receptacle at the time the nozzle clicks off. My vehicle build date is April of 2008 and is subsequently not covered by TSB 14-001-011 which addresses this same issues in Jeeps built from March of 2007 to March of 2008.

29 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2016

Went to go fill up the Jeep, it filled up the pump clicked that it was done and then it violently overflowed covering me and my precious Jeep in gasoline.

30 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

166,666. 00.

31 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 01/23/2016

When fueling the gas pump isn't triggered to shut off until gas has already came out the top of the fueling neck. This causes gas to spill down the side of the vehicle and have a gas spill at the fueling station. This happens at every station I fill up at.

32 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2015

An unsafe condition is created upon completion of refueling. After pump cut-off fuel spillage occurs on every refueling operation. This condition is unaffected by changing speed at which refueling is performed. This is not due to "topping off," regardless of pump speed, on first pump cut-off spillage occurs. This constitutes wasted money and creates a personal safety hazard as well as an environmental hazard. This has happened on every fill-up for the last several months, most recently today, 29 November 2015.

33 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2015

I purchased this vehicle a month ago and every time I fill it up fuel spills rapidly from the filler neck. I understand this is a common problem and I would like to get it fixed.

34 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2015

I bought an 08 Wrangler the end of may 2015 and experienced the gas spill at fill up almost immediately. I called armory Jeep here in albany NY about the issue and chryslers (Jeep) TSB #14-003-12 which "should" cover the repair free of charge. Well after giving my VIN# I was told Jeep would not cover my repair because my particular jk was manufactured for canada. So I went to Jeep customer service who again denied me the repair. In the end the car dealer with whom I bought from, offered to do the repair. Great! the dealer got the mopar fuel filler tube #52059821aq and installed July 20th (again free of charge - something Jeep should be covering). Filled up tonight, July 22nd. . . And guess what? same spillage.

35 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2015
