When fueling vehicle overflow pours out of the tank and on to the vehicle and ground when filled. I've owned the vehicle for 14 months and has been doing this since purchased.

Every time I fill up my gas tank, no matter what gas station, I always get about a cup of gas that spits back out of the filler port. The nozzle always clicks off but the gas just keeps coming.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2019

Every time I refill my gas tank it overflows all over the ground. This has happened since I owned the car in 2010 to most recently yesterday on 3/12/19. Based on production there are more the 2. 1 million Jeep Wranglers on the road according to production numbers. It seems that this is a decent environmental issue if it occurs on most if not all jks. Any jk owner I have talked to has this same issue. Chrysler should be held responsible for this failed aspect of the vehicle.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2019

Attempted to fill up vehicle with gas. Gas is ejected from filler spout and down the side of Jeep. Only happens when attempting to fill the gas tank completely up.

Whenever the gas tank is filled, the gas will spurt out of where the nozzle is inserted. When the pump stops, the gas will spurt out of the tank and drip down the side of the vehicle.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2018

Gasoline overflows from the tank during refueling and does not shut-off. This has occurred several times at several different gas stations and pumps over several years. The gas just gushes out when the automatic shut off kicks in on the pump and creates a large spill and all over Jeep and tires. This is now occurring almost every fill up and occurred yesterday and appears others are having the same issue.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2017

There a factory, manufactur problem with the Jeep. Whenever I put gas on the vehicle, it spits out the gas if I pour too fast. I was checking online and it states that Chrysler was replacing gas tanks free of charge if they had this issue. I contacted Jeep and they stated they couldn't change it becuase it didn't appear in the VIN number. It is also a safety concern because the check engine is advising me that there is a leak in the gas tank.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/29/2017

When refueling the gas tank it overflows gas all over on the ground. It does not automatically shut off when tank is full.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2017

As the other filed complaints state fuel sprays from the filler when the tank nears full. Mine will spray and there is still available space for 2-3 gallons of gas in the vehicle. This is a safety hazard and an environmental hazard. With the volume of complaints and concerns I see on forums and other places online this does not seem to be an isolated incident nor has Jeep made any effort to rectify the issue at their expense. I did not in good faith purchase a vehicle that would ruin my finish, ruin my clothes and pour gas on the ground. I would hope someone would hold their feet to the fire and make this issue a recall and not just a TSB - infect multiple TSB's for the same issue - Jeep you have a real problem and you should fix it.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/04/2016

Tank overflows with fuel everytime I fill it up with fuel causing a safety issue.

The contact called a local dealer (stafford Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge of springfield, 7611 loisdale rd, springfield, va 22150) and was informed that the failure may be due to the fuel tank and/or filler tube. The repair would cost $900. The contact declined to pay and believed it should be covered under a recall. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 51,000.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2016

Since I bout the Jeep in Nov. 2015. Every time I fill up the fuel tank, the automatic shutoff valve will not engage making gas spill out of the tank.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Air bag light is on. Horn and cruise also quit working when this occurred. Rear ended a lady last fall and airbag failed to deploy, not sure it should have but still didn't. Can not ever fill the gas tank full due to fuel spilling out of the fill tube onto the ground, can get slightly more that 3/4 full.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2014

On may 29th of 2014 I was driving my 2008 Jeep Wrangler down a 4 lane city street at about 3000 rpm. I had just taken off from a red light when I heard a loud explosion that resulted in a fire underneath the vehicle. The gas tank exploded and the the fire covered the bottom of the entire vehicle. There was damage under the hood on the engine side of the firewall on what appeared to be fuel lines. Luckily there was a quick response by the fire department who quickly extinguished the fire, but my Jeep has been rendered un-drivable. I have contacted both Chrysler and the dealership but not assistance there. The Chrysler investigation team would not even take a look at the fuel lines the marshal determined started the fire. I will never feel safe in this vehicle or any other vehicle produced by Chrysler ever again. Luckily there was no personal injury to me, but only because I had all the doors and top off which enabled a rapid escape. Please take a serious look a these Wranglers and force Chrysler to take action before someone is seriously injured or even killed.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2013

Unable to fill gas tank without gas spitting out upon fillup. Gas gets all over myself/wife and the Jeep. Then have to wipe the excess gas off vehicle to protect paint and stuff and then wash hands numerous times and change of clothing to get gas smell off of you. Now Jeep refuses to fill completly beofre it starts to spitt back at you. Maybe gets filled 3/4 tank now then wont fill no more and spits it back at us!.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

Problem occurs when fueling. Auto pump shutoff does not work with this gas tank filler, fuel sprays out of fill up. Only time fuel does not spill out if you very slowly add fuel and stop before tank is full.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2013

Everytime refuel Jeep, it overflows; whether stop pump manually or wait for click. Even if leave Jeep on and watch fuel gauge, if fill is above 3/4 of a tank, it will burp a lot of fuel after stopping pump, and still only have 3/4 of tank; not full.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/20/2013

Fuel tank overflows, spilling all over the side of my vehicle, clothing, feet, shoes, hand/arm, etc. This occurs ever time I go to fill up my gas tank, regardless of the gas station or pump that I use. These incidents are becoming more and more of a hassle because I can't go into work covered in gasoline therefore I'm forced to be late to my job because I have to go home and wash the gasoline off and change clothes.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2013

Drove over snow & snow knocked gasoline vapor canister off causing fuel spillage that continued until replaced. Only held on by plastic & easily knocked off. Called dealership & scheduled appointment. Was very careful & only drove home & then to dealership being very careful. Adjacent gasoline tank skid plate was not even marked. Unfortunately, skid plate does not cover cannister. New vehicles include a skid plate for the cannister. No dought would have been a fire if exhaust had been hot!.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2012

New to me 2008 Jeep Wrangler x unlimited has fuel overfill spill problems every time I fill with fuel, ever since the first time I filled the tank. Gas pump shuts off and fuel continues to spit out of the fuel fill of the Jeep. I estimate that 1-2 cups of fuel come out, some of splashes onto me and some if runs down the side of the vehicle. Dealership says it is a known problem but my vehicle is not covered so they want $600+ to replace the fuel tank.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

The contact owns a 2008 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that when he refilled the fuel tank as it got full the gas sprayed out onto him. The failure recurred numerous times over the course of a month. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnosis and was informed that it was a defect and referred to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified and stated they would assist in the replacement of the fuel tank after the contact paid for a portion. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 58,000.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/31/2012

When fueling, gas sprays out all over before the automatic shutoff kicks in. I just bought this vehicle, and this has happened every time I filled the gas tank so far (about 4 times).

30 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/16/2012

When pumping fuel tank overflows appropriately 1 pint of fuel after pump shuts off.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/03/2012

On every fill up for gas since January after I or an attendant who fills the gas tank gets splashed/soaked with gas. Upon removing the nozzle the gas 'burps' back and sprays gasoline out of the tank. The gas splash started out very small and not as frequently but now it rushes out like a waterfall and every fill up. Regardless if you pump the gas slowly by hand or use the auto lever on the pump it still happens-everytime. I am only using 87 octane gas as per the instruction manual and this happens at every gas station (mobil, shell, sunoco, texaco, global, irving, citgo, etc. ) my local gas stations are sick of me coming in because they always have to put out kitty litter to mop up the mess.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

Purchased this vehicle on 10/29/2011. At first fuel fill up and every subsequent fuel fill up, the fuel back splashes and overflows on to the car. Apparently, the design of the fuel tank does not allow the pump to shut off before it overflows resulting in fuel spillage on the vehicle and the ground with each fill up.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2011

Fuel tank overflows a few ounces at every fillup. Happens regardless of gas station or pump.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2011

When trying to fill gas tank it will not take the fuel as it shuts the pump off. It takes about 20 minutes to put in $10 worth of gas in. It has progressively gotten worse.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

Have jk 2r rubicon model. When traveling in the high country in colorado I start to smell fuel fumes around noon and they do not go away until we refuel at the end of the day. The fuel tank get so hot the ethanol boils off and the emission system cannot handle the fumes so they vent into the atmosphere. The Jeep fills with fumes and vehicles behind can smell them too. All of the two door jk models we travel with have the same problem. Jeep has been of no help and say they know of the problem but have no solution. In the last year 2 of us have contacted large cell lymphoma. Ethanol is a class one carcinogin.
