Seat Belt Problems of Jeep Wrangler - part 1

I have brought my vehicle in for 3 time for the dealership to take a look at europe messages I have received. It is currently with them right now. As the start stop function is now not working. This happened while in the dealers possession and was working normally prior to me being it into the dealership. They said they repaired a vacuum leak. After the apportionment I noticed the start stop function wasn’t working and it said battery charging. I took my vehicle on a long drive to charge the auxiliary battery, but nothing changed. I brought the car back to the dealership and they are now saying they are not responsible as a battery can drain at any time. I have asked for dates on their obd scans but they either do not have them or are unwilling to provide them to me. I asked what systems the auxiliary battery affects other than the start stop function. They told me seat belts, dash lighting and obviously emission because the vehicle will not start and stop the way it is supposed to, and continues to run while sitting at a light or stopped in traffic. I am currently waiting on results regarding the start stop function.

The front passenger seatbelt wasn’t working properly and we noticed the belt was frayed so we ordered a new one from car parts direct. Today while taking the old belt out we noticed that the seatbelt unit itself wasn’t bolted into the Jeep. It was bolted off to the side causing it to be crooked which is why the belt frayed because the entire unit was not in properly. The bolt that should be holding it in is still in the Jeep yet the seatbelt unit came out very easily and you can clearly see where the bolt was sitting. I will include photos.

From the moment I drove off the lot, I encountered problems. The battery light came on immediately, requiring a replacement within weeks. I returned to the original carmax location for this service. However, this was only the beginning. Over time, I discovered the following: the driver seatbelt was not functioning properly the right rear passenger seatbelt buckle was completely missing the filters were filthy and had not been cleaned or replaced in well over a year, according to a trusted mechanic the engine may now require replacement at just 38,000 miles when I called carmax to report the missing seatbelt buckle, I was incorrectly told that my vehicle was not under warranty. This was untrue — I was well within the warranty period at the time. Despite this, I was ignored, and the safety concern received no follow-up or correction. This points to either a falsified or negligent vehicle inspection at the time of sale. Your "125+ point inspection" failed to catch multiple clear safety hazards and wear issues — or worse, they were deliberately overlooked. What’s most disturbing is that I only discovered the missing seatbelt after my sister drove the vehicle with my 5- and 3-year-old nephews in the backseat. One child had to sit in the middle because the rear right buckle was completely missing. That realization — that I unknowingly placed children at risk in a vehicle that your team labeled "safe" — is devastating. Now I’m being told that the engine may be failing — and it hasn’t even hit 40,000 miles. I was recently asked by the southlake service team to provide oil change records, which I am willing to share. But let’s be clear: an oil change receipt does not explain why a newer engine is failing at this mileage — unless something much deeper is wrong.

I received a safety warning about my air bags specifically via my Jeep app on my iphone about 1 1/2 hours after I had been rear-ended in a motor vehicle accident. The rear-end impact pushed me into a van in front of me. The safety notice notified me to take my 2022 Jeep in to have the air bags checked. There were no prior warnings. I am concerned as to whether or not the air bags should have employed upon impact. My seatbelt did totally lock into place after impact, but the air bags did not activate. My vehicle is currently still being repaired at a collision service, per the direction of my auto insurance carrier.

My seat belt is always loose and I have to jam it back in place all the time. I noticed an oil spot on the floor of my garage and it looks like it's the oil cooler housing that is bad. Both of these items are recalled but my VIN shows it's not.

The first time this happened I was in maryland, while reversing out of a parking spot onto main st in belair, the Jeep just shut off, just before that every light on the panel went off and the abs, powertrain just to name a few failed. I was stuck 3/4 out of the spot when the shutdown occurred, the steering wheel locked, gear shift wouldn’t move and when I tried to press the brake it wouldn’t go down. I had to hit the ignition to reset it while out in oncoming traffic, after 2 attempts, I was able to get it started and shift into park, then drive and then pull in. During this time the check engine light was on. When I returned to nh I took it to the dealership ( bonneville & son) they had it for nearly 2 weeks, determined it was the alternator output. They ordered a new one but due to a sku error in Jeeps system, it was the wrong part, so they had it an additional 4 days. Today 6/29, I was pulling symmes dr to park at the park and ride in londonderry. While going around a curve, the Jeep did the same thing and just shut off at 32mph. Steering wheel locked up, everything went dark on all screens, I could not brake or accelerate. There was no space on the side of the road, there was a line of 3 cars on the opposite lane and there was a tractor trailer in my rearview mirror shuttering. He was able to stop at an angle but was stopped less than 4 feet from my rear bumper. When I saw it in the mirror, I thought that was it. I was almost killed today due to Jeeps complacency.

The seatbelt retractor did not work on my driver seatbelt. I almost got into an accident and the seatbelt never tightened across my chest. I hurt my wrist in the process by being pushed into my steering wheel. There is already a recall on this exact part for some Jeep Wranglers manufactured in 2019, but mine did not fall into the active recall. Clearly it should be.

During a high-speed collision/accident the vehicle had a high speed impact and rolled several times during the accident. The airbag system did not deploy as it should have the airbags in the seats for the sides, and the back did not deploy the driver of the vehicle myself was injured severely and ejected from the vehicle due to the airbags, not deploying, I sustained multiple injuries the only airbag that deployed was from the steering wheel which cause multiple rib fractures, and no other airbags were deployed the drivers seatbelt was locked, and could not be removed, unable to open the seatbelts.

The front seat belt retractors do not lock as intended to prevent increased risk of injury in the event of a car crash Jeep wobbles when hit a bump on highway going 50+ mph (no customization or modifications).

The electrical connection in the seatbelt breaks causing the airbag and seatbelt light to constantly illuminate not knowing if the break would cause the airbags from deploying.

This is a rhd right hand drive Jeep . The seat belt for the driver (right side) has an "energy management loop ("rip stitching")" when the drivers seatbelt should have a "button".

The clutch. I was driving down the freeway and the clutch went out. Yes, champion Jeep Dodge confirm the clutch system went out. Yes, I was told they do not cover the clutch. There was no one he signed symptoms or problems. I did take it back to autonation on 2 other occasion complaining about the brakes and the emergency. I have had this vehicle less than 7 months and had nothing but problems. I paid auto nation $6,500 for this lemon vehicle & purchase the extend warranty plus, because I was told if anything breaks down with this vehicle, I would be covered bumper to bumper on this vehicle within the 2-year time period, under this extended warranty plus. Todd told me it would cover everything under the warranty and specifically the clutch, transmission, motor & electronics. My brother asked todd several times precisely about the clutch and was told yes with the extended warranty plus, it covers everything major on this vehicle. With the extended warranties plus, you are covered bumper to bumper, this is the most comprehensive coverage. Now, I am asking you to put me in another vehicle until you get this figured out. I am requesting auto nation to get me in another vehicle, because I believe this is a lemon vehicle and I am tired of all the problems with this truck. If you can assure me that y'all is going to handle this ongoing problem with my Jeep. This Jeep was at delta world tire June 13 – 19 and then I transferred to champion Chrysler Dodge Jeep on the 19th of June waiting for approval. Auto nation extended warranty denied claim on vehicle (denial reason for the case 35270572). Delta world tire was the preferred shop but was behind in workload and short on mechanics. So, I had to tow it to champion Jeep Dodge. So please let me know how much longer it is going to take to decide what you all going to do about the lemon vehicle you sold me and when to come over to mobile and pick up another vehicle. I anticipate and answer immediately! I have a letter I wrote.

My 2016 Jeep Wrangler, is having major issues. My seatbelts completely stopped working last week February 3, 2023. I had left the mechanics because I had the back window replaced, and the back hood of my Jeep Wrangler. When pulling out of their driveway, I realized my seatbelt was very tight, but I still got to hook it. When I got home from my drive one and a half hours away, I went to use my car and the seat belts would not work. Driver side and passenger side seat belts have completely seized. Has my Jeep Wrangler 2016 had any recalls. My son died December 10, 2019. I have never had any other problems with my Jeep Wrangler. I believe in Jeep and the company who makes them. The body shop told me to get rid of my Jeep. I cannot do that and since my son died in my Jeep Wrangler and drug dealers threw him in the back seat, letting him die after they stuck him with a needle full of fentanyl. Please help I do not want to part with my Jeep Wrangler. I am sure with the VIN number you will be able to trace anything that has gone on with my Jeep! I could have missed many recalls because my son was very sick, from 2016 until his death 2019. I purchased the car brand new in 2016 in upstate new york. Please tell me how I can get help so my seatbelt will work again and the airbag can be inspected. It must be a recall issue I can’t think of anything else and I need your help. I now live in port charlotte, florida, and I am near my daughter. This Jeep Wrangler has been very good to us. It saved my son’s life and his girlfriends in that prior accident. It went into severe vibration and vibration of steering. It was uncontrollable. It happened in my first highway trip since I purchased the vehicle. The vehicle had to be towed 100 miles. Cost of this was $5697. 97. After I paid $30,000+. To autonation in spring texas. Car was released to me with no inspection sticker. Electrical issues were looked at by the dealership and said there is nothing wrong. Can not see at night and turning signals work on and off. Defective roof seals that are leaking into the seatbelt tensioners. When I pull seatbelts to buckle they are wet. The tensioners are sitting in water when it rains.

Airbag didn’t deploy and seatbelt didn’t lock with the collision.

My dash indicates that there is a problem with airbags, service engine soon, tire, and brakes. My controls on the steering wheel will not work. My seat belt doesnt stay hooked. I sometimes smell like a oil burning smell. Had to replace oil housing. And suspension feels very loose. My vehicle is not in recall, but make and model are with all recalls needing fixed. What do I do now?.

Both the front drivers side and front passenger side seat belts no longer retract fully. The mechanism and surrounding areas seems to be free of debris. Additionally the airbag light comes on and off when anyone sits in the front passenger seat. I travel in the vehicle alone mostly. The fact that the seat belts and airbag systems are not working properly caused me to call a local dealership about repair and they told me the could not assist for more than a month.

I lease my 2019 Jeep, and in November 2021, my then 8 year old son was trapped in the driver's side back passenger seat, where it would not retract and would only get tighter. The screws would not budge to remove the seatbelt, I had 3 people I had to ask for help as the seatbelt was getting tighter and tighter and cutting off circulation to my son. We finally had to cut him out. I reported this right away to the dealer. My service advisor kept putting me off stating the seatbelt was backordered. We made due with the remaining seatbelts. 7 months later the middle seatbelt quit retracting. I was left with just one working seatbelt in the back seat, with 2 young boys, now 10 and 12, and I cannot drive anyone else in my car as I do not have working seatbelts. I have gone into my dealer, sent several emails to my Jeep dealer and spoke in person and in email to the manager and have been ignored. I sent in my issue to Jeep corporation/mopar, and they keep giving me the run around and told me I have to go through the dealer. I have pictures and emails of this all and have been ignored. My lease is up next month, and I have not been able to enjoy my Jeep with others for safety reasons. I don't understand. Why I have been ignored and Jeep does not care. There is an issue with the seatbelts in this car.

My 2016 Jeep Wrangler with 53,000 miles on had the airbag light come on and when I went to have it checked it was due to a occupant restraint control module malfunction. I was told this might not allow the airbags to deploy and that it could even deploy spontaneously. . Read more...

Airbag delay in deployment and seatbelt failure to lock. Almost direct head on collision. After contact with the other vehicle (full size truck), my body went forward and hit over the visor in the middle. On the return to my original position I watched the airbag deploy. The seatbelt never locked. I also do not recall the airbag fully deploying. Vehicle is available to check computer. No one has inspected the vehicle and I had no vehicle maintenance issues prior.

I had already had to replace 2 rear seat belts in my Wrangler over a year ago. Both seat belts tore completely in half. The cost for the seat belts alone was 500. A year later, I had another seat belt rip in half. One that was already replaced ripped right in half again. I only occasionally have had anyone in the back seat. Possibly once a week. Now, I cannot put anyone, especially children in the back seat of my 4 door, so called 5 passenger Jeep because it is not safe. The seat belts fray and rip.

A car came into my son's lane. To avoid a head on collision, he veered right and went head on with a guardrail. Air bags did not deploy and the seatbelt did not lock. He was on hwy 1090. We find out tomorrow if the Jeep will be totaled because it has frame damage. The Jeep dealership that has the Jeep right now could not tell us why the air bags did not deploy and the seat belt did nothing lock.

The seatbelt will not retract after being fully extended while driving. The seatbelt will then be stuck in the fully extended position while driving.

The back seat belt wrapped around my daughters neck and the lock mechanism would not release and every time she pulled on it the belt got tighter until the point she fainted and could have died had it not been for a passerby carrying an army knife, allowing us to cut the belt thereby freeing her. Almost a death situation out of the blue. This happened when we were driving and then stopped in a parking lot to release her.
