1 Tire Blowout problem of the 2004 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 03/08/2020

On March 8, 2020 while driving at 75 mph on interstate 75, the right rear (rr) tire on my 2004 Jeep Wrangler blew out. The tires were purchased at sam's club in may 2018. The vehicle had a matching set of tires all purchased at the same time (may 18) - bf goodrich all terrain ta ko2. Size 31 x 10. 5 r15. The mileage on the tire at time of blow out was only 16,386 miles. It is very clear from photographs that rear tire tread separated from the sidewall. Weather conditions at time of tire failure were excellent - clear, sunny, 57 deg f. Roads were clear and dry. Tire pressure for remaining 3 tires was checked immediately after blow out of rr, and all 3 tires were found to be same pressure (35 psi). The tire was marked dot bf60_at11_1118. I am an automotive engineer with +30 years of experience in automotive driveline. The way the tread separated cleanly for full 360 deg from sidewall on front of tire clearly leaves me believing there is a manufacturing or design defect in these tires. I am concerned about the safety of this bf goodrich all terrain ta ko2 tire on the road.

2 Tire Blowout problem of the 2002 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 01/20/2018

On December 1, 2017 walmart installed 5 new goodyear tires on my Wrangler. The fifth was for the spare. The old tires had tread but were 7 years old. I tow this Jeep behind an RV. I bought the tires to avoid a blowout while towing. On January 20 we started our seasonal trip to florida. About 4:00 pm, the left front tire came apart destroying the fender, turn signal, side marker, bent front bumper, ripped the wiring from the RV that controls lights, as well as the front Jeep wiring left side. When I stopped, nothing but a piece of wire was wrapped around the front rim. No rubber and the alloy rim damaged beyond use. At that point I just thought I picked up a nail and got a flat. Thank goodness I had a new spare was my thought. The next day, 1/21/18, about 3:00 pm the right rear tire came apart and when I got stopped the only thing left was about an inch where the tire meets the rim, 2 rings of rubber. I had to have the Jeep towed to the nearest tire center, firestone complete auto care. There, I noticed that the right front tire had small pieces of rubber missing. I replaced all the remaining goodyear tires. I contacted both walmart and goodyear. Goodyear had me fill out a claim form, number 601521. They made arrangements to have the right front tire and the 2 pieces shipped back to them. I received a certified form letter stating the one tire has normal wear (chunks of rubber missing is normal wear?) and manufactured fine. I contacted goodyear by phone and asked how that determination can be made when two new tires, one day apart, came apart and a third showing signs of a problem. Since they don't have a tire to examine they claim the problem is not theirs. They said to send pictures. The result was the same. I have requested that the tire be returned to my residence. I have more than $4000 damage to my Jeep, and a manufacturer that's standing in another world. They conveniently lost the two rubber rings, blaming it on fedex.

3 Tire Blowout problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 08/02/2014

Purchased goodyear Wrangler sr-a 255/55/17 a little over a year ago. About 3 months after purchase my front left tires was flat and unrepairable. At that time didn't think much of it. But as time went by I noticed that once I hit speeds of abt 50 mph my front end started to shake severly. I assumed that I needed a front end alignment or balancing. However coming home several days ago my front and back right tires blew. Luckily I was driving at a low rate of speed and was able to control my vehicle and no other vechicles were passing or behind me. It could have been a different outcome if so. I decided to do web research to see if there were any similiar issues and have found many with the same problem. I really do think goodyear needs to really look into this. I replace the tires with another brand and not once has my front end shaken like previously.
