6 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

Tire valve failure in Jeep Wranglers. This is a known issue across the online chat boards. I own a 3 year old Jeep Wrangler and the tire valve crumbled in my hands when trying to inflate the tire to correct pressure. Apparently the metal used in the tire valve degrades easily and even the dealership is well aware of this constant repair. After failure of the tire valve, the tire deflates quickly. It can start with a hairline crack down the valve stem or just break off across the valve by the tire rim. It is a totally unacceptable failure and can be incredibly dangerous if it fails at the wrong time. The valve stem is hooked up to a tire pressure monitoring system so the apparatus is expensive to repair. The remedy is total replacement of each tire's valve system with an exact replica of the first faulty part. The failure of this item is concerning and should be investigated.

7 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2008 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 12/29/2010

Got low air warning from tpms. Went to gas station checked pressure it was 28psi. Attempted to add air and stem broke completely off. Went to dealer and had to replace stem. I see that this is a common occurrence in cold weather for numerous Chrysler and Jeep branded vehicles with tpms. This is a safety issue that could happen while driving or leaves people stranded.

8 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2007 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 10/26/2008

Drive a 2007 4-door Wrangler. Within 6 months of purchase, hit a small bump going around 50 mph on highway. Car steering vibrated uncontrollably moving about 2-inches side to side. No shoulder available (caused other cars to swerve away from me) but after breaking, it eventually stopped. Asked dealer service workers (while it was being looked at for second recall for computer/breaks) why this was happening, they claimed "that is what Jeeps do". Happened 4 more times until a witness from the road pulled me over to tell me "he thought my right front wheel was going to come off. " Jeep claimed to have never heard of it before. (there are website about "death wobble" everywhere). Brought to dealer, fixed tie rod. Happened again, said it might be a bad tire. Will be at my expense. Called tire manufacturer, to start a file.

9 Tire Pressure Monitoring System problem of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler

Failure Date: 07/18/2008

I was traveling down the highway passing another vehicle on the first lane. As I was going down, I felt my vehicle pulling to the side very slightly, and at first I put the feeling off as me overreacting over something or it was just the road being a little rough. I was going at highway speed around 75mph, and eventually my rear passenger side tire ruptured effectively destroying all of the sidewall of the tire. I managed to stay in control and pulled to the side of the road. After the incident and upon closer inspection of the failed tire at home, I found that the rubber part where the valve stem meets the wheel of the tire was mostly cracked almost to the point of detachment. I feel certain that this was the cause of the tire failure, where I lost air pressure causing the sidewall of the tire to give away at highway speed. I have also taken pictures of the tire and the valve stem damage if needed.
